A really nice hotel, located in a prominent spot on the seafront. Great for the town or trams. Excellent service, wonderful food, great ambiance in the bar. Can't recommend enough. Only problem is no on site parking, but parking is available on the promenade, but might be tight high season.

Very clean, large family room. Breakfast good. Sadly lift out of service while we were there but managed stairs.

Came over to Isle of Man for a football match the empress was everything we need perfectly situated definitely come again bar food meals drinks entertainment the lot brilliant

We had a classic sea view but we were woken by fights and arguments outside on most nights. Breakfast was enjoyable and reasonably well organised. Order taking for tea and kippers was a bit hit and miss. We were very impressed by the food offering (and the staff) in the piano bar. Shame the beer is so expensive! We would return.

2nd time at this hotel, the hotel is fab, clean and modern. Lovely food and bar area. (pianist playing on occasion) Great location, helpful staff. My only moan would be a few tired parts of the room requiring routine maintenance but nothing off putting and the breakfast was not as good as my first stay with no yoghurts or mixed fruit. There was however grapefruit and orange segments. I would come back. Overall spot on!

Lovely stay at this hotel. Stayed for a couple of nights for a quick visit to the island for the first time. Location is brilliant...on the seafront and we paid extra for sea view...well worth it. The rrom was large and well positioned...and very clean and comfy. The breakfast was as expected with lots on offer and very well stocked. The only annoyance is the parking outside...yes its free but only for 16hrs max in one spot then you have to move to another spot (even if its next along) to reset the time. But thats not the hotels fault its the local parking laws and only a small inconvenience - there was always a slot available right outside the hotel thankfully.

Carpets smelly in bedroom

The room was freezing when I got to room 106. There were 2 radiators neither have been switched on. I tang the hotel before arrival to tell them my partner was disabled and health issues eg COPD. I said this again on check in. I said I would view the room. I turned the rads to full myself and told reception before I left. When I came back the room was still very cold with the curtains open. I had to request additional fan heating. This was then provided but all too late. As a result the bedsheets felt cold and damp when we got into bed. There was also some black mould in the bathroom. My partner is at risk of any fungal issues from black mould and this is not acceptable. In addition I had asked for. King sized bed when booking and in the notes attached to the booking I stated this. I want to have a response to see what you are going to do about this. Our stay was of unacceptable standard.

I was pleased with the room & the location of the hotel. The breakfasts are first class as are the bar snacks/meals. I hadn’t expected my room to be serviced everyday so to return and find my bed made, towels folded ect was a bonus. Excellent experience all round. I am considering visiting the Island with my wife in the future and will definitely be booking my stay at the Empress.

Stopped here on business for one night, my stay was ok and the staff we met were lovely. However we had a lot of high winds and heavy rain while there, my room was a seaview room on the third floor which was nicely decorated and comfy but the windows didnt seal in the frame correctly and the wind whistled through the frame all night, even the curtains moved with the force of the wind. I woke up in the morning to the window sill completely covered in rainwater which was running onto the floor. The wind issue also allowed the room to be quite cold even with the radiator on full. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, we didnt have dinner in the hotel, instead we ate out at a local indian restaurant.

Very nice hotel, large room (117)- unfortunately no view, just a roof. However nice bedding, soft towels & hot shower. In house bar with a good menu, meals were substantial.Breakfast had all you needed to start the day. The reception staff were friendly and very helpful, a big plus from me

The piano player was amazing. Made our evening fantastic. Lovely clean hotel look forward to going again. Would book without any hesitation.

Good standard hotel that’s well located for exploring Douglas and wider IOM. Room was of good order and clean excepting all sealants in bathroom were poorly applied. Good value but no better .

Sadly not a well looked after hotel. Incredibly dirty windows (which on the outside is forgivable due to the sea, but they were dirty on the inside and the frame was disgusting) Old and very dated decor including a desk chair that crumbled as I sat on it - I found pieces of fabric on the floor and learned that the chair's bottom liner had disintegrated while I was out. Staff were actually lovely, especially the breakfast team, apart from one individual who sadly decided that politeness and decency were beneath him and spoke to me in a way that was completely unforgivable.

Rooms not sound proof. Can hear next room when they shower. Property tired looking, needs updating. Room set up not functional- Tv on side of the bed , dressing table away from mirror . Room very small, not comfortable

Room was excessively warm with no air condition. Blankets were far too thick. Required having windows open - and loads of noise outside on the street from crowds of people outside being heard when trying to sleep. Bed was hard and difficult to relax in. Just an overall challenge to sleep / enjoy.

Room was fine although a bit small and had a view of a wall. Breakfast was excellent and really well organised. Probably the most efficient hotel buffet breakfast experience that I have ever had.

Had room 406 on the top floor with a sea view and plenty of space. Reasonably quite room with minimal noise from vehicles in the street. Good views out to sea. The floor slightly slopes in parts. Breakfast was included and provided a good range of food. At times it was very busy and there were the occasional short delays whilst items were re-stocked. We ate dinner in the Braserie 3 times and it was good quality. Would recommend the Empress.

Arriving at the hotel I was told that my room wasn't ready yet but I actually felt they wouldnt allow anyone to check in until the published time. When I did get in my room it was cold and small. After a very early start I tried to rest for a little while but could hear the music from downstairs so struggled. When returning from dinner with a customer the music seemed to switch off around 23.30, the room was still cold and with a small single and thin duvet it was cold. I was then woken up by yet more noise which I think was the pipes from the small radiator in the bathroom. I hardly slept. When asked in the morning they asked how my stay was and when I explained it was very poor they just said "sorry about that" I'd booked a room for later in the year already but will be cancelling this and finding something else.

Thia hotel was a perfect for our stay on the Isle of Man. The room was spacious( sea view) and the room had USB ports, grab bars and bathmat for the shower/bathtub, and the breakfast buffet was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel is on the Promenade and close to bus stops.

The room was huge and gorgeous. The bathroom was very nice. But if I\'d known my "ocean view" was blocked by scaffolding, I would have booked elsewhere. The bar and the restaurant were excellent, but the breakfast was cold. And between the vent in the bathroom being noisy and the fact that I could hear the bar music all night long from my room, it wasn\'t particularly quiet. All in all it was a good stay.

We were in Room 157 and it was terribly noisy both from the kitchen/function room underneath to being able to hear everything being said and done in the neighbouring rooms. Terrible sleep. Such a shame as staff very accommodating and welcoming and hotel in a great position.

Average at best. Stayed there for a wedding with my 18 month old son for 2 nights. Firstly, they charge £15 per night for a travel cot which is shocking. I've stayed in 5 hotels with my son and never been charged before. Put me in a room where i had to get up and down stairs with a pram, an 18 month old and bags on my own. Also charged me £3.10 for a pint of milk to fill up a bottle. Breakfast was ok. Tiny plates and cheap filter coffee.

The room that we had was a sea view room and was of a good size. The bed was a Queen size bed and had a comfortable matrass. The main problem was that we had a toilet that would not flush. Though we complained twice and were told it would be attended to it still did not work. On complaining again on checking out the duty manager told me I did not know how to flush a toilet and accused me of lying ( the inference to reduce the bill). Never have I encountered such rudeness from a hotel manager.

Staff go above and beyond! Room was perfect. Stayed here several times and every time it’s amazing!

I requested a early morning call. Which was ignored by the night man. But a resident talking in the hall way luckily woke me up. Other than that enjoyed

Front desk staff very unhelpful; entire property evacuated because of 7 am fire alarm never explained. Room furnishings like a cheap dormitory room nothing special at all. Breakfast included was bland and greasy.

At first exactly what expected. We had food that day in the hotel, but by the evening my daughter was vomiting and the other things linked with food poisoning. This finally stopped at 5am in the morning and needed to rest. It was not a bug or virus and advised it was almost certainly food poison. She only ate at the hotel that day. By 8am there was so much banging and it turned out they were doing work on the room next door. It was a Sunday… bit early for that for a tourist hotel especially as we had been up all night! On check out I tried to advise the receptionist… they were not interested, did not even ask how my daughter was or offer to log my concerns.

Good hotel with friendly staff, would recommend. Only point to consider, I chose to pay for my group in the hotel and requested vat receipts. Hotel said they wouldn't do it,only changed when I showed them the booking message that receipts were to be collected in the hotel!! I had to be persistent. Unnecessary hassle.

Brilliant location along the promenade and close to the city centre. The hotel has very warm and friendly staff that make one very welcome upon check-in and throughout ones stay . It's a great location to base oneself while on the Isle of Man .

Lovely hotel with two different eating areas. It's in the Central Promenade area of Douglas, with views over the bay.

Very nice view from window. Easy walking to other parts of the town. Pleasant bar area. Extractor fan in bathroom not working, though.

The hotel was easily accessible from the port - about a 15 min walk, as well as to the horse and electric trains. The location was very nice. Breakfast was good and water pressure in the shower was excellent.

Ideally situated midway along the prom. Maybe just a little too far from town for those unable to walk very far but iseal for us and just by bus stops and the horse drawn tram stop. Breakfast selection was excellent and a few nice choices for evening meals too

The Empress hotel was perfect for a home location to explore the Isle of Man! Walkable to the buses, close to pubs and an exception English breakfast each morning!

The hotel itself was excellent. It's in a very nice location on the promenade. The view of the sea is lovely. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water and pressure. The food from the bar was delicious. I felt the staff at the front desk and the bar could have been more welcoming and friendly but none were rude. The only issue with the hotel is the parking. It's the luck of the draw on the street as there is none at the hotel. It was a bit stressful to drive up and down the promenade looking for an open spot in the right zone, but we managed to find one each day not too far from the hotel. Just pay close attention to the signs. All in all, we would stay here again.

Had a very enjoyable stay here. The restaurant was top class food. We also ate in the piano bar and that was excellent too. Staff were very polite and helpful. Room was kept clean daily and the Breakfast was really good. Plenty to choose from nothing was to much trouble.

We enjoyed our stay! Good location on the beach in walking distance of restaurants and relatively easy to park on the street. Friendly staff, and great food at the restaurant. Breakfast was solid too with the option of kippers to go with a full-English-type spread. Would recommend!

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, great location, parking can be hit and miss opposite hotel, room lovely, stayed here several times, i dud notice on this occasion breakfast was "different" no yoghurts, sausages were cheap, i think breakfast is due an overhaul, no kippers 2 days in a row, pastries on one of the days. Other than that spot on.

I would NOT recommend anybody to eat in the restaurant. My experience may have been unusual but I doubt it. The starter was very good I had the Manx queenies but the main course the lamb shank was overcooked and the meat when knocked with the knife sounded as if I was hitting wood. I ordered a wine from the list and when it arrived it was awful after two sips from the glass the second to confirm that the taste was metallic and harsh not at all fruity I asked to see the wine list and found that the bottle provided was NOT that on the list! I asked why the bottle I was given was not the one ordered and eventually the manager came to the table and insisted that the wine was the same as I had ordered and I pointed out that the label was different and not from the producer listed. The manager then said that the supplier had assured him that the wine provided was of the same quality as the one I'd asked to drink. I told him to take the bottle away as it was not what I'd ordered. When the bill came I saw I was being charged for the wine I'd rejected at the price that was listed for the right wine. I refused to pay for the wine I'd taken two sips of and the bill was changed with the price for the wine which cost more than the two food courses combined taken off. I returned to the restaurant the next day, the Wednesday but only to have the starter. I ate in other restaurants and had good wine everywhere especially so in the Fig & Olive restaurant on the main shopping street in Douglas

Overall it was ok but not quite up to the standards of a Holiday Inn Express. Couldn\'t get any food the first night; they sold the restaurant to an "event". The event played loud, thumping music til midnight that came up through the building structure and could be heard in all the rooms. No point in trying to sleep until it was over. The food was typical Irish (no surprise: lots eggs, beans, and high-fat meats. Some fruit, no juice. About like an Irish Denny\'s. The beds were comfortable and slept well after the noise stopped. It\'s a retrofit of a Victorian era building so lots of levels, not all of which are served by the light. Those with disabilities might find it challenging but we saw worse accessibility in other places. Overall assessment: it\'ll do but of the 6 hotels we stayed in on our trip, this one was #6.
