Really nice place, very comfortable bed, felt very safe as single female traveller. Not overly keen on menu and quite expensive. Nice breakfast. Pleasant swim in the morning, only two lanes and people swimming here there and everywhereso difficult to swim in straight line. Changing rooms tired and need updating. Enjoyed my stay though.

All in all the stay was good and pleasant, one thing I missed at a place like this was a jacuzzi and one other thing was at the spa, My wife haded to have a refund for her nails

Stayed one night to attend a funeral locally. The room was comfortable enough and breakfast was buffet style but fine. EV drivers should note that the charging provider has been rebranded as Roam and not EVC Plus on the signs. Download their app before you arrive as it’s 3G signal strength in the car park. Plenty of chargers though and more being installed which was great to see.

Although a little tired and in need of a freshen up, and although there was a slight drain smell from our shower (not enough to complain about) the room was spacious, clean and well furnished. It had a beautiful view over the golf course. The main downside was the mattress which was a little hard and probably a bit worn out. Otherwise it was lovely and the staff were great overall. The gym and pool were also lovely, and complimentary to hotel guests.

The reason I haven’t given higher rating is the condition and cleanliness of the bathroom. The shower sealant was discoloured with mould in parts and the extractor fan in the ceiling had dust hanging out of it

Hotel looked nice from the outside, with golf course on room terrace. I booked the deluxe room, expecting a high standard, however, it was a large room, but the bed was very uncomfortable, there was no A/C, the TV was very old and none of limited satellite channels did not work, the bathroom again again a good size, had mould on the ceiling, silicone sealant was just thrown on around the toilet, no extract system and looked very dated and worn. I ate in the restaurant, food was really nice, £40 for 2 courses and 2 diet cokes. Not the best place to stay.

Overall the stay was pleasant, mainly for the company we had for a wedding in the area. However, the room hadn't been cleaned, had urine over the toilet and bathroom floor. The night staff attempted to clean it but the bathroom still smelt so ended up cleaning it ourselves. The room itself could of done with a clean, dust and pubic hair was all over. Also, wouldn't advise the breakfast, £24 for a childs portion of average food, the continental section was limited, and didn't seem value for money.

For a 4 star hotel we expected a higher standard. When entering the room it was lovely however the bathroom really let us down. There was mold, thick limescale coming out of the taps. It didn't look clean. The restaurant is extremely overpriced considering the amount of money being spent for the room and the spa, £8 for garlic butter i think is disgusting oh also a service change just to top it all off. The Spa is really where we enjoyed ourselves. The staff are extremely lovely and helpful. We only had half a day but it was well worth it.

Terrible television setup in most of the rooms with very limited channel options and in some rooms no EPG option either. For the money I would expect and demand more and better. Also two single beds pushed together isn’t really a king size bed. No very honest.

We stayed for 2 nights in August 2024 because we had a wedding nearby. The property has a stunning golf course, bed was very comfy and the staff were very friendly and attentive. However, the hotel was too loud for us - the doors of all the rooms slammed shut and it was constant banging from about 6.30am as people started on the golf course. Unfortunately the breakfast was also very poor, and far too expensive for the quality.

Really good size room, was perfect on the ground floor having patio doors open onto a small bistro set. Really comfortable stay. Attentive staff. Didn't eat here as i was working in the area ling hrs but Cant ask for me.

Warm welcome at check in and very efficient. Large comfortable room everything worked . Great staff. . Reasonable food promptly served . Rather noisy at night - mostly single men on golfing weekend so banging doors and boisterous noise after being in the bar!

Lovely hotel overlooking golf course. Unfortunately our room was right by the first hole and the golfers were out bright and early on the sunday morning and not at all respectful that people were in in bed... we paid £172 for the one night and didnt even get a lazy sunday morning lie in 🤔

Hill Valley never fails to disappoint!! Hotels.com refused to refund my money after I entered an incorrect date by error. This is totally IMMORAL. The hotel was virtually empty. My room was COLD on arrival. The TV did not work (wrong remote control left with TV!). No instructions on how to use the Nespresso machine. Chairs in bar restaurant were grubby. My meal was incorrectly described on the menu; some of the food was hot. Some was cold. And served on a cold plate! No condiments on the table. Sound system playing piped music was totally distorted. Needs replacing. Little things mean a lot in a 4* hotel. Hill Valley needs a major shake up and spruce up. It's a shame they have the virtual monopoly on hotel accommodation in the Whitchurch area. Premier Inn would be a better choice.

An absolutely wonderful stay, nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. The location is stunning, easy to locate, parking a few metres from reception, ideal for couples or larger parties of golfers.

Turns out that it’s REALLY hard to persuade a taxi to come out to this location unless pre-booked. Staff were super helpful and did eventually get me fixed up, but perhaps on check in you could check if a taxi might be required and advise guests to pre book.

Staff were very helpful. Receptionist let us swap rooms when allocated room was right next to lift & I was worried I wouldn’t sleep because of noise. One of the housekeeping staff ran my partner to the wedding venue we had been at the day before when he was unable to get a taxi

We enjoyed our stay in the McDonald hill valley hotel. Bathroom needed redecorating. On arrival, we checked in, as we entered our room we actually walked in on someone in bed who was not at all happy understandably. Neither were we. On arrival, we checked in, as we entered our room we actually walked in on someone in bed who was not at all happy understandably. Neither were we. Warm welcome at check in and very efficient. Large comfortable room everything worked . Great staff. . Reasonable food promptly served . Rather noisy at night - mostly single men on golfing weekend so banging doors and boisterous noise after being in the bar!

The staff at this hotel were exceptional. After trying to get a taxi without success and having an injured leg, the front desk staff arranged for one of the other members of the team to drive us to the train station. They went above and beyond and it was really appreciated.

I booked 10 rooms for family and friends the night before our daughter’s wedding. We arrived and checked in and was given our room key, unfortunately when we arrived at our room it was still occupied. Fortunately nobody was in the room so we returned back to reception and was assigned another room. Had a lovely stay and would not hesitate on staying again. Staff and food was great.

An absolutely wonderful stay, nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. The location is stunning, easy to locate, parking a few metres from reception, ideal for couples or larger parties of golfers.

Turns out that it’s REALLY hard to persuade a taxi to come out to this location unless pre-booked. Staff were super helpful and did eventually get me fixed up, but perhaps on check in you could check if a taxi might be required and advise guests to pre book.

The room was big, modern and spacious. Facilities we’re good Whitchurch is a 20 minute brisk walk. If you need a taxi to come back in the evening, pre-book or you might also striggle to reach any of the nine taxi companies in the area. Breakfast was great as were the pool and gym. I can also recommend the Black Bear in town for its foods and craft ales.

Staff were great. The hotel was let down by a group of men shouting obscenities around a table in the bar. They had no consideration for other guests. They clearly had very limited vocabulary. This went on for an hour, so if you have children, I would rethink the stay. Other than that it was a very nice hotel. Lovely location

Hill Valley never fails to disappoint!! Hotels.com refused to refund my money after I entered an incorrect date by error. This is totally IMMORAL. The hotel was virtually empty. My room was COLD on arrival. The TV did not work (wrong remote control left with TV!). No instructions on how to use the Nespresso machine. Chairs in bar restaurant were grubby. My meal was incorrectly described on the menu; some of the food was hot. Some was cold. And served on a cold plate! No condiments on the table. Sound system playing piped music was totally distorted. Needs replacing. Little things mean a lot in a 4* hotel. Hill Valley needs a major shake up and spruce up. It's a shame they have the virtual monopoly on hotel accommodation in the Whitchurch area. Premier Inn would be a better choice.

Lovely staff, Breakfast a bit overwhelmed on the Staurday morning, paid £18.00 for a continental Breakfast and there was hardly anything left on the tables, no bread, hardly any cold cuts. Could only have some Granola!!!. For £16.00 at the lounge bar a cafetier with coffee and two breakfast baps with egg sausages and bacon. More value for money than £24.00 for a cooked breakfast or £18.00 for a continental. All this was offset by the great service and lovely staff.

We stayed for 2 nights in August 2024 because we had a wedding nearby. The property has a stunning golf course, bed was very comfy and the staff were very friendly and attentive. However, the hotel was too loud for us - the doors of all the rooms slammed shut and it was constant banging from about 6.30am as people started on the golf course. Unfortunately the breakfast was also very poor, and far too expensive for the quality.

Overall an okay stay. Car park a tad confusing but depends on which way you enter the hotel grounds. Be careful of old golfers driving at you in their golf buggies in the car park! I was hoping to go for a relaxing swim but it felt more like a busy leisure centre and people doing serious training - not relaxing at all. My room was a deluxe room, however no water or added extras. Bathroom was extremely dated and shower was covered in limescale and mold on the walls. Not to mention some of the complimentary Elemis bottles were empty - I had a “shampoo” one attached to the wall by the sink instead of hand wash? Heater was rubbish. I went for dinner in the restaurant and was told to go around 8:15 as there were two big parties in. I was completely neglected and forgotten about by the staff despite them walking past multiple times. After 20 minutes had gone I had to shout over for them to take my order. Felt sorry for the teenage staff running the place. The food itself was very good. I was woken up 12:45am by guests coming back to their rooms and shouting in the hallway. I was again woken up at 7am by people slamming their doors when leaving - actually woke me up in shock it was that loud. Breakfast times were earlier than expected so acidentally missed it despite paying for it. I think a finish time of 10/10:30 is more acceptable. All in all, was ok but plenty of room for improvement. Was very overwhelming with the amount of golfers and members using the leisure facilities.

For a 4 star hotel we expected a higher standard. When entering the room it was lovely however the bathroom really let us down. There was mold, thick limescale coming out of the taps. It didn't look clean. The restaurant is extremely overpriced considering the amount of money being spent for the room and the spa, £8 for garlic butter i think is disgusting oh also a service change just to top it all off. The Spa is really where we enjoyed ourselves. The staff are extremely lovely and helpful. We only had half a day but it was well worth it.

It was a nice hotel for what it is. It is an older venue however based on industry standards the rooms are very outdated and quite frankly dirty. There was one outlet in the room not even near the bed. The evening staff was great. Breakfast was very unorganized. Food was empty, coffee was cold. Lots of $ for a venue that doesn’t provide the caliber expected for the prices paid. Most staff were friendly and kind.

Drinks and food prices were very high (£7.50 for a pint of lager, £22 for burger and fries) but probably in line with the hotel's general vibe. The evening food was, to be fair, very good quality. The cooked breakfast was, again, very good quality. The orange juice and (particularly) the coffee were poor (probably the worst coffee, served yourself from a flask, that I've had in years!). I would stay here again.
