My family has stayed at Crooked River Lodge several times and normally have a positive experience. We arrived on a Friday after skiing and decided to go to the pool/hot tub. Unfortunately, they were hosting an “open swim” for twenty kids in the area who were rude and poorly behaved. The next night, we again went to the pool where several teenagers were displaying some unwanted PDA. Since we noticed people getting let in without using a key, I am assuming they were not hotel guests. Not sure we will go back.

I just happened to find Crooked River Lodge with a Google search. The photos looked nice. It’s close to Petoskey and the price was great. It only had 2 stars which is strange because this place is phenomenal. The staff was very friendly, the accommodations more than adequate. I appreciate that the interior is charming and warm. The grounds are gorgeous and the amenities (bikes, kayaks, gas fire pit, smores accoutrements, a fish pond AND fish food). What a hidden gem. We can’t wait to return

This is one of my most favorite places I have ever stayed! Beautiful lodge with outdoor tables on the back. Lovely green land with a river. Game room. Indoor pool and hot tub. Great attention to detail and many amenities to enjoy!

While the rooms are starting to need a little updating, it was clean, neat and comfortable. The property itself offered a lot to do with free kayaks, a fish pond, large yard and inside and outside fire pit. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a nice sized pool and hot tub. Free breakfast in the morning. AND economical!

A superb natural setting right on crooked river with kayaks, nature trails with a plethora of wildflowers in bloom. A 24 hour outdoor and indoor fire. A wonderful well maintained inn with great staff. the usual amenities and a few extras that made for a memorable expeience.

Very clean and quiet. The property is beautiful and has a real “up north” feel. The outdoor fire pit and patio was a great place to relax and the pool and hot tub are great. The staff is wonder and the breakfast was better than most places I’ve stayed. We will be going back soon.

Our stay here was wounderful. The staff was very courteous and efficient. Our room was very clean, modern looking with a very nice color scheme. The view was nice overlooking Crooked River. I am sure it would be super fun in warmer months as there are open spaces to roam or go boating. We would definitely recommend staying here.

We’ve stayed at this lodge several times. This time we noticed that the hot tub was filthy- black mold around edges, concrete around pool was dirty. The good breakfast has been downgraded. Rooms were clean but rundown needing paint etc.

Lovely place to stay, very relaxing. Reception staff lovely, however staff in breakfast room very intimidating and very unhelpful. Our room was not serviced properly two out of the five nights we stayed. The property itself I would recommend if you are in the area.

Very comfortable room, would definitely stay again. My only issue with the room was the shower was tight for a larger person. The location is a bit off the path but it doesn't take long to get to Petoskey or Harbor Springs from there.

The lodge is really beautiful. The room was much bigger than I expected. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only thing that I didn't like was beyond their control -- the people above us whose kids stayed up until 2 am making noise. But we will definitely be back!

Our room was clean and spacious, loved the view also! The staff was extremely friendly, informative and accommodating! The breakfast area was clean and well stocked with a decent selection, the ladies working there were so nice! This was an amazing experience, thank you!!

Beautiful lodge in a scenic setting. The suite was very nice, and we enjoyed the view from the balcony. Very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good, and the breakfast room attendant was very friendly. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. The lobby area and outside sitting area with the fire pit were very nice.

Crooked Rivers property and outdoor amenities were really great. Loved that they offered free biking, kayaking, and walking trails. Every room had a balcony or patio and the view was beautiful and serene. The rooms were dark and quiet for a good nights sleep. Only improvement to wish for was an update to the room interiors as they were a bit dated.

This hotel has an AMAZING location and will be a 5 star location once the Staffords remodel the pool area and the rooms. There are sweet little touches like coffee, tea and hot chocolate upon arrival.

We visited the area to take Fall color photos. I ran across this beautiful lodge and booked a room. The room was very big! The view was lovely. The beds were comfy and the bed linens were snowy white and very easy on my sensitive skin. I was surprised that the pool was open all night (adults only during those hours!) And there was a fire pit going all night too! It was a weeknight and I hoped they might bring our biscuits and gravy,but sadly, no. I read that sometimes they do bring in some hot breakfast items. They did have waffles you could make though and my husband did that. Their granola was delish! I spied the boiled eggs and that was the only negative… Ibit into it and chewed and found they had missed some shell. Yuck! That threw off my appetite. But, it was the only negative of the trip. Next time, I will inspect more closely! The big gathering room was inviting!! A lovely fire was going, the weather was rainy and foggy much of the time. We will definitely want to stay there again!! Staff were friendly and helpful. Here are a few photos of the grounds. We stayed in late October 2025. There were lots of things in the lodge for anyone who likes to play games and such, but we are retired people. We didn’t check those out but they sounded like fun things to explore. kayaks were available for our use too.

Crooked River is a great place, love the rooms, grounds, nature & located close to many other waterfront cities. Staff all very welcoming & friendly & helped me arrange flower delivery for my wife for our anniversary. Definitely will be back for another stay.

I just happened to find Crooked River Lodge with a Google search. The photos looked nice. It’s close to Petoskey and the price was great. It only had 2 stars which is strange because this place is phenomenal. The staff was very friendly, the accommodations more than adequate. I appreciate that the interior is charming and warm. The grounds are gorgeous and the amenities (bikes, kayaks, gas fire pit, smores accoutrements, a fish pond AND fish food). What a hidden gem. We can’t wait to return

This is the 5th year we've stayed to enjoy our family Christmas tradition here. The staff is absolutely amazing! Every one is super friendly, always available for any queations, suggestions, or any help they can offer. Every part of the inside and out is gorgeous and well maintained! The game room upstairs offers nice, relaxing family time as well. They offer a very nice, hot breakfast daily. And also tea, water, coffee and hot chocolate all day day long in the lobby. Sitting out back by the fire and soaking in the outdoors is wonderful and beautiful!

Lovely place to stay, very relaxing. Reception staff lovely, however staff in breakfast room very intimidating and very unhelpful. Our room was not serviced properly two out of the five nights we stayed. The property itself I would recommend if you are in the area.

Unique use of kayaks on Crooked River as an amenity! Great gas fire pit nightly and in mornings. Location is away from crazy traffic in Petoskey yet close enough to enjoy that area and more! No restaurant inside but dies serve good breakfast daily included in stay.

My husband and I stayed with our two young kids. We loved the tranquility of the property. Loved that there was a pool and little play place for the kids at the lodge. The rooms were spacious and cozy. Everything was comfortable and quiet. It’s perfect for a getaway and close to Indian river, petoskey. Harbor springs etc.

Very comfortable room, would definitely stay again. My only issue with the room was the shower was tight for a larger person. The location is a bit off the path but it doesn't take long to get to Petoskey or Harbor Springs from there.

Gorgeous property. Very quiet. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. View from rooms absolutely lovely. Fire pit every night and morning for coffee and s'mores, plus big stone fireplace inside between soaring windows for the view. Sweet village location for quiet visit but close to Mackinaw City, Cheboygan, Harbor Springs and Petoskey for more adventures. Kayaks and bikes onsite. Surrounded by beautiful rural countryside literally minutes away. What's not to love? We will return for sure!

Great place to stay as a destination or as a stopping point to the Upper Peninsula. Very relaxing setting--quiet, on the river, outdoor fire pit, lots of comfortable seating (and a fireplace) in the common areas. Wonderful getaway for me, my husband, and adult son. Don't let the road construction deter you--it's still a relatively easy in and out.

Beautiful lodge in a scenic setting. The suite was very nice, and we enjoyed the view from the balcony. Very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good, and the breakfast room attendant was very friendly. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. The lobby area and outside sitting area with the fire pit were very nice.

Liked - Quiet, free kayaking, large field behind the building for playing with the kids, nature trail. Breakfast was good, eggs, sausage and potatoes were all tasty. Loft had pool table and several board games. Pool was open 24 hours, 9am to 9 pm for everyone and 9 pm to 9 am for adults. Not like - Parking lot had limited room.

Beautiful views from all rooms based on the building layout. Large Outdoor gas fireplace is a nice feature, along with onsite walking trail. They advertised a full breakfast, which it is not. There were no cooked eggs, bacon or sausage/ham. As such, it is a choice of only high sugar "foods" with the only exception being a fruitbowl with oranges/bananas and also boiled eggs. Since we were not interested in a sugarfest, we could not avail ourselves of the "included breakfast" and had to go up the street to "Bobs" to get what we consider a "full breakfast".

The next morning breakfast was lacking in variety and source. The fruit cups were bland and the individual fruit tastes were mixed together. With spring/summer, fresh fruit is plentiful. Could have a couple wait staff cut up fresh fruits and provide them on the brkfst line. Heck, I can get a 5lb. frozen mixed bag for $11 at Sam's club. There were no items that provided any protein. No yogurt, bananas, scrambled eggs.and/or sausage patties. Room was fine, the check-in staff wonderful. Was going to book another stay in July, but the brkfst sealed the deal not too. Kudos to the gas fireplace, wonderful!! The grounds are well kept and all was clean and tidy. Maybe have a few signs where the flowers are to identify as guests were interested what type. etc. You could have the local landscaper/florist place a few signs around the flower gardens. Maybe have a sign where the kayaks are to 'Use at your own risk'. I would develop a kayak 'lift' to raise up when exiting the craft and lower down when the rower is ready to push off. We have been coming to this Lodge for five years, at least twice a year, we were greatly disappointed that they had eliminated their hot breakfast. The breakfast was what made the Crooked River Lodge unique, they took out the juice machine, cut back on variety of breads they had and a few other things. They no longer have mouthwash available in the rooms. New ownship has not made this better. This was a destination facility for us, we will be now be looking for a replacement due to the major let down from this trip.

We visited the area to take Fall color photos. I ran across this beautiful lodge and booked a room. The room was very big! The view was lovely. The beds were comfy and the bed linens were snowy white and very easy on my sensitive skin. I was surprised that the pool was open all night (adults only during those hours!) And there was a fire pit going all night too! It was a weeknight and I hoped they might bring our biscuits and gravy,but sadly, no. I read that sometimes they do bring in some hot breakfast items. They did have waffles you could make though and my husband did that. Their granola was delish! I spied the boiled eggs and that was the only negative… Ibit into it and chewed and found they had missed some shell. Yuck! That threw off my appetite. But, it was the only negative of the trip. Next time, I will inspect more closely! The big gathering room was inviting!! A lovely fire was going, the weather was rainy and foggy much of the time. We will definitely want to stay there again!! Staff were friendly and helpful. Here are a few photos of the grounds. We stayed in late October 2025. There were lots of things in the lodge for anyone who likes to play games and such, but we are retired people. We didn’t check those out but they sounded like fun things to explore. kayaks were available for our use too.

Excellent and varied hot breakfast each morning; coffee, hot chocolate, iced tea and ice water available at all times; gorgeous lobby and fieldstone fireplace; staff was super friendly and always helpful; pool was nice & warm; jacuzzi was perfect; the loft game room had a pool table, checkers, lots of books, games & puzzles; various sizes of snow shoes were available for guests' use; the building was super clean; king-sized beds were comfy; sheets/bedding were white and smelled freshly laundered; had a small, but decent exercise room. We loved this place and will be back next year!

The Crooked River Lodge is our favorite place to stay when exploring lower Michigan and parts of the UP. Rooms are spacious and clean; quality linens and daily housekeeping if desired. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We have never taken advantage of the free-to-use kayaks, bicycles, skis, toboggans, etc, but what a great amenity for those who are interested. The area around the lodge is safe and well-lit with convenient parking. Just one criticism: The complimentary breakfast. As recently as 3 years ago, the breakfast featured delicious hot dishes made on the premises. Today, it's on par with many of the budget chains. Would hot oatmeal be too much to ask? Disappointing considering the lodge seems to be aiming toward a luxury experience. Still, we always come back. Coffee and dry cereal, than on to somewhere else for a more substantial offering. Don't miss the Dam Site Inn in Brutus or the Dutch Oven Bakery in Alanson. Lots of excellent dining options if you take the time to do a little research.

Our experience at The Crooked Lake Lodge was simply perfect. The structure of the lodge was beautiful, the staff were all so friendly and upbeat. We LOVED kayaking right out the door, it was all just perfect and we will be returning soon!
