The finest luxury hotel we have ever stayed in—truly deserving of full marks in every way. The staff were exceptionally attentive, ensuring every detail of our stay was perfect. We enjoyed a traditional ryokan breakfast and dined at Sushi Otemon Omakase—both experiences exceeded all expectations and were simply unforgettable. HOSHINOYA Tokyo is a very specific hotel, a very japanese hotel. It is a luxary hotel but far very different from the classical luxary hotels: shoes must be left at the entrance, no breakfast except on revervation and very typical japanese breakfasts, no swiming pool but a japanse onsen, no dinner except on reservation. It must be tried once, it is very calm, very very very clean, everythink in the hotel is japanese, every single detail is thought in a japanse way. It is located in the financial district with a few bars and restaurants but the subway station is very near with 4 lines.

stayed at the Hoshinoya Tokyo for two days, everything was very nice until I got the 90 minute massage. It was not clear in the description of the service that it would be a light massage or I would have never had one. The massage therapist told me to tell her if I wanted more pressure and I said four times I would like more pressure but didn't get much. I told the manager I was not happy with my Massage and that we should split the cost and she said it's not in the policy of Hoshinoya to give you any refund. She kept apologizing and said is there anything they can do to make the rest of my stay pleasant, I said pay half of the massage, it was still a по. To be completely honest, this is not a place you want to stay for good food, the food was mediocre, the massage is not for anyone who really needs a massage. Hoshinoya is out of the way from everything, the idea of staying in a ryokan is better on paper. You aren't getting special treatment, trust me. You are better off staying at the Tokyo Mandarin Oriental and please get the Thai massage at their spa, it's the best massage I've ever had. It's not worth the price you will have to pay.

A very successful fusion of a Ryokan and a western style hotel. You are always surrounded by an understated elegance that is subtle and quiet. The architecture of the building and the interior design is exceptional. The hotel could benefit from the addition of a casual restaurant.

The hotel is incredible, the facilities are mind blowing. Everything about the hotel is exceptional. The Onsen is an incredible experience to have. The spa was the best I've ever been to. The only two complaints I have are the breakfast option was very expensive and it wasn't as tasty as all the other food I had in Tokyo. Additionally I wanted to invite a few of my friends to checkout the room while I changed for us to go out. The hotel gave me a very hard time stating that hotel policy doesn't allow guests, which is absurd. I'm staying at a hotel alone, if I want to invite someone to visit me, it's my own prerogative to do so.

Staff was incredible and very kind. The hotel itself and the room was very clean and very minimalist. The rooftop onset is to die for! Gender separated. Fully nude. And the coolest sky light that opens to outside while you’re in the water. Only negative was the lighting in the room. It was pretty and all but Not great for makeup application and doing hair.

Whilst the hotel was overall very nice it was over priced generally. At nearly double the price of other 5 star hotels we stayed at on this trip. The staff were excellent and very attentive. I felt no Cafe or restaurant or bar was a big miss for a 5 star hotel I suspect the theme and design this was deliberate.

Wonderful hotel! Well-located, close to everything, yet so peaceful. Interior is splendid, refined, clean, welcoming. Staff is helpful, polite and diligent. Room is a haven, out of this world and time. Would definitely recommend!

A delightful experience from start to finish. The staff and check-in process were absolutely wonderful. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the onsen was stunning.

I had high expectations for this property and have been wanting to stay since it’s opened, finally got our chance recently and was pretty disappointed. Some of these comments are just personal preference vs actual problems with the room/ staff. Firstly we checked out after 2 nights. We were scheduled to stay 6. Our room smelt musty, was incredibly damp ( towels wouldn’t dry, clothes become musty and moist to touch and the room was incredibly humid. We asked for a dehumidifier and they kindly obliged and it pulled out 5 litres of water over night, unfortunately it didn’t help as it just expelled hot air and made the room warm and uncomfortable. After multiple attempts and being told they were full, they offered us other rooms and unfortunately they all seem to have the same issues. They said it was because it was humid out, but we didn’t have any issues at the 4 other hotels we stayed at during our trip, and it was humid everywhere. The staff seemed indifferent about the situation. A far cry from the Intercontinental properties we stayed at. The rooms were gorgeous and the hotel itself was beautiful. But lots of little rules and quirks and the room issue would stop me from every staying there again.

Everything was excellent. The staff was very friendly and polite, even though there was one request the staff refused to help. Yet, I understand. There was one thing really bothered me, however, was the smell of sewage in the bathroom. It was unbearable. So the last day of the trip it got really strong. Half day of our last day we couldn’t use it.

房內裝潢老舊，minibar的門、鉸鏈鬆動， 房內木拉門的shoji paper,有破洞， 我們原本是不在意，想說小細節，沒去和服務員反應， 反倒是第五天，房務人員向上反應，反而晚上上門來了解狀況，這整個讓我沒辦法接受。 這告訴我、下次要先檢查房間，不然一不小心會變成自己的問題！ 也請其他消費者要特別注意了！

Great service, but hard to find people sometimes as it feels very quiet and isolated on the floors and in the onsen. Asked for a local sushi recommendation because their sushi restaurant was closed and the place they recommended turned out to be terrible. They were kind enough to make the reservation, though. The room itself was a bit run down considering the expense and the 5 stars: chipped paint, musty bathroom odor. And the in-room amenities were a bit lacking.

This was a slightly strange experience. The property is very traditional and has some odd quirks (like taking off your shoes on entry and leaving it at the entrance). The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly but the overall feel of the hotel is dark and quite compressed. We also found the rooms to be too dark, making it hard to iron a shirt or put on makeup. The noise from the air con made it hard to sleep and the beds weren't particularly comfortable. There is a lot of focus on being eco-friendly so missing some of those key comforts you would expect at a 5 star property.

Beautiful hotel with large rooms, only 6 rooms per floor. Great modern Japanese design including 8 push button light settings. Hotel provides lounge wear & kimonos which can be worn to Onsen (hot baths) for indoor/outdoor bathing. Having a natural onsen is quite rare in Tokyo. Guests are expected to remove shoes upon enter which are stored at the entrance. Located close to subway (which includes many food options) accessed through lower lobby. Staff very polite and responsive to every request. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Amazing experience at a high-rise ryokan. As explained to us, a ryokan is traditionally an inn in Japan. At the Hoshinoya, this translates into a large common area with an assortment of tea, coffee and snacks available 24/7. Room was large and comfortable. Bed was comfortable. Service was friendly and reliable. The hot springs on the roof is a unique amenity. In sum, yes, you should stay here.

Staff was incredible and very kind. The hotel itself and the room was very clean and very minimalist. The rooftop onset is to die for! Gender separated. Fully nude. And the coolest sky light that opens to outside while you’re in the water. Only negative was the lighting in the room. It was pretty and all but Not great for makeup application and doing hair.

HOSHINOYA met our high expectations - but many of the notes from other reviewers rang true. Overall we really enjoyed it and would recommend. 1. We stayed 3 nights. Even if you have the budget, wouldn't recommend staying much longer than that as some of the rituals get a bit tired after a couple days (such as taking off shoes when entering). 2. Room is overall nice but not super spacious and ours smelled a bit funky. Shower is good but not incredible. Bed is good. 3. Common area is nice and the snacks and drinks available were great. 4. Welcome/arrive felt high service and exclusive. 5. Onsen is nice and unique but would have liked to have a steam room or other facilities as well 6. We did the sake tasting and enjoyed it - would recommend. 7. Location is good and we did a lot on foot our first 2 days. Great to be near Ginza and train station. 8. Expected a bit more from a service perspective but it met our needs. For example - no turn down service, front desk a bit slow to respond to inquiries.

There were only ~6 rooms per floor and it was always very quiet. Staff was always very respectful and customer service was excellent. We loved our experience with the hotel and would love to stay there again if opportunity arises.

Room looked beautiful but the bed was super uncomfortable. Staff at hoshinoya are rigid and not very accommodating. I had an evening flight so I checked out of the hotel and visited Tokyo as my final day. When I returned, I asked to use the communal shower at the hotel prior to travelling to the airport. I was told No. As this hotel is very expensive per night, I was surprised they didnot let me use the shower area. I haven’t had this experience anywhere else in a 5 star property.

It had no facilities staff were cold charged for a 1 pm check in. Massage was given but was told straight no relaxation room and told we could not use changing area as cleaning and closed at 11.30am Breakfast was cold and ok if you’re Japanese. Unhelpful staff with very limited English speaking very unwelcoming. Very expensive for what it is!

1st day we arrived was good with staff. 2nd day - Breakfast : Staff did not explained about food and food was not warm, it was cold. We need a water so i called staff but they did not answer so i went out of room and looking for staff. 3rd day (check out at 11:30) - when i went to reception to check out, staff did not say hello and did not asking any question like " how was stay in Hoshinoya?", they just gave to me paper to pay bill. I felt so upset about staff. I have been many Aman resort,Hyatt,Hilton,W hotel, Ritz carton and so on around world. Their staff so kind but Hoshinoya Staff are so terrible in reception. My daughter asked some drink when we check out, but staff laught and reject to give some drink. I felt so much terrible and very upset. I felt they ignore me. I did decide not use Hoshinoya hotel anymore in my life and tell my experience to my people. How staff say "No" when we ask some drinks when we check out? Is this your hotel's customer service rule? We spend about 1500yen per night, but service your your hotel less than 300yen per night's hotel. Thank you so much Hoshinoya's terrible customer service and I'll never forget the feeling of being ignored. for the rest of my life.

I had high expectations for this property and have been wanting to stay since it’s opened, finally got our chance recently and was pretty disappointed. Some of these comments are just personal preference vs actual problems with the room/ staff. Firstly we checked out after 2 nights. We were scheduled to stay 6. Our room smelt musty, was incredibly damp ( towels wouldn’t dry, clothes become musty and moist to touch and the room was incredibly humid. We asked for a dehumidifier and they kindly obliged and it pulled out 5 litres of water over night, unfortunately it didn’t help as it just expelled hot air and made the room warm and uncomfortable. After multiple attempts and being told they were full, they offered us other rooms and unfortunately they all seem to have the same issues. They said it was because it was humid out, but we didn’t have any issues at the 4 other hotels we stayed at during our trip, and it was humid everywhere. The staff seemed indifferent about the situation. A far cry from the Intercontinental properties we stayed at. The rooms were gorgeous and the hotel itself was beautiful. This was such a top-tier experience. The service was unbelievable. The sheer number of staff people who could not be more helpful. I was a first-time visitor to Japan from New York City, and they made all the right moves in terms of comfort and anticipation of our group’s needs. In fact, I hurt my foot pretty seriously on the first day of our stay, and three staff members helped me immediately - one with a special Japanese ice pack and two others with finding the best English speaking orthopedic doctor and even with ordering me a special walking boot from Amazon Japan when the doctor did not have my size. I’ve been in a lot of hotels in a lot of cities, and I would rank this in the top 3 I’ve ever experienced.

Truly one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Hoshinoya Tokyo is an excellent accommodation and their staff is equally amazing. Their attention to detail and care towards their guests is outstanding and unmatched. I will definitely be returning every opportunity I get. Beautiful Japanese style hotel with excellent amenities and attentive professional staff. Located close to transport options on a quiet side street in financial district. This is not a western style hotel but there are plenty of those from which to choose. Highly recommended.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel. Amazing staff as well. Rooms were spacious and beautiful. Lovely tea and snacks included as well. We used the Osen, gym nearby (extra change), hand the traditional dinner and breakfast in our room and toured around Tokyo. The hotel is located in the financial district which was a little too quiet on the weekends and none of the underground restaurants were open. Other than that, our experience was perfect. Would definitely recommend.

Tänk på att utbudet i restaurant är begränsat och att hotellet saknar bar egen bar ligger i finansdistriktet så det är inte så mycket nattliv och restauranger på gatorna här. Under varje skyskrapa finns dock en massa restauranger och takbarer finns också nära. Superbra kommunikationer hit och gångavstånd från Tokyo Centralstation. Boka det här om du vill ha en Supermodern Onsen/Ryokan mitt i stan med lugn och tyst miljö.

We love how comfortable the rooms are, the inviting lounge, and the onsen with the cold milk afterward. The building is just a 2-3 min walk from Otemachi subway or 10-15 mins stroll to Tokyo Station.

Property was difficult to locate in the business district. Checking in was quick and easy. Those with tattoos are able to use the hot spring. When we arrived, there were four other females who were leaving. We had the place to ourselves. The open air ceiling was breathless. The common area had drinks, small rice cracker snacks, and single wrapped ice cream balls similar to small bon bons. Checkout was quick. Charged for hot springs usage for all in our party and a service fee. I knew about the fee from another review so I wasn’t shocked when it was approximately half the price of our room.

Fantastic property! Loved everything from the peaceful environment, to the incredible service and countless extras like sake tasting in the lobby while listening to traditional music, the lounge on each floor and of course the spectacular onsen on the 17th! The property is well located at only a 10-15 minute walk from Tokyo Station, and connected to Otemachi subway station. We were able to walk to the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace in 10 minutes, and the Ginza area in 25-30 minutes,

After seven nights at this hotel, I nearly didn't want to leave. The atmosphere was very tranquil and calm and everything was always taken care of, even sometimes before you ask for it. I would highly recommend this hotel for people who want more space in their hotel rooms, higher quality of products and service, and who want access to a natural onsen in the city. I had two young kids with us and they loved it too. The hotel is in the business district of Tokyo, but it is so close to Tokyo Station and the metro is linked underground to the hotel (with 4 or 5 different lines), so it was very easy to get to anywhere. We will definitely come back again.

Super nice hotel. Missing a more western breakfast. Excellent service. Missed information about what was available in the lounge as well as the TV only had japanese letters - we never figured out how to use it. All in all a super recommendable hotel.

It is a luxary hotel but far very different from the classical luxary hotels: shoes must be left at the entrance, no breakfast except on revervation and very typical japanese breakfasts, no swiming pool but a japanse onsen, no dinner except on reservation. It must be tried once, it is very calm, very very very clean, everythink in the hotel is japanese, every single detail is thought in a japanse way. It is located in the financial district with a few bars and restaurants but the subway station is very near with 4 lines.

This hotel is beautifully designed. Detailed and a peaceful escape into a modern version of a traditional Japanese Ryokan. Having stayed at several traditional Ryokans, we knew this setting well and looked forward to an upscale modern accommodation. I would have given it 5 stars but here is where it broke down for us. At check in, we were asked if we wanted breakfast in the morning and were given a choice of a Japanese style Breakfast or a Western style breakfast. My partner chose the Japanese and I decided to go with the Western style since by this point, I wanted something familiar after delving deep into Japanese cuisine. At breakfast, everything seemed fine until my Western breakfast arrived. It wasn’t western at all. More than half the items were traditional Japanese breakfast foods with only some breads, yogurt and scrambled eggs as a hint to western style breakfast. I didn’t eat most of it, couldn’t, wasn’t in the mood for another Japanese breakfast. When I questioned this at check out and said I didn’t get what was sold, Just an explanation of what the hotel represented and breakfast was their interpretation of Western. I told them, it wasn’t western style breakfast and they should not sell it as such. Still no adjustment to the bill and blank stares of incompetence to resolve the issue. At this level, pricing & hotel of this stature, you should be able to resolve issues when they arise. Service otherwise goes smooth as long as there are no issues.

I didn’t eat most of it, couldn’t, wasn’t in the mood for another Japanese breakfast. When I questioned this at check out and said I didn’t get what was sold, Just an explanation of what the hotel represented and breakfast was their interpretation of Western. I told them, it wasn’t western style breakfast and they should not sell it as such. Still no adjustment to the bill and blank stares of incompetence to resolve the issue. At this level, pricing & hotel of this stature, you should be able to resolve issues when they arise. Service otherwise goes smooth as long as there are no issues.

This hotel was absolutely phenomenal. Only the limited dining options (inside and in the surrounding area) could be considered dings. We will definitely be returning to this wonderfully calm and serene environment.

Whilst the hotel was overall very nice it was over priced generally. At nearly double the price of other 5 star hotels we stayed at on this trip. The staff were excellent and very attentive. I felt no Cafe or restaurant or bar was a big miss for a 5 star hotel I suspect the theme and design this was deliberate.

Hotel design was beautiful. The fact that I couldn't have a meal with a friend and the hotel was unexpected and too limiting. Created much hassle for me as I'm usually meeting friends for coffee or lunch at my hotel. Not much of anything around the hotel that's easy to get to for a meal. Everything is closed on the weekends.

호시노야 도쿄에서 가장 좋았던 점은 들어가는 입구. 보통의 호텔과는 다른 입구라 입구 매력도가 높아요. 그리고 온천은 도심내 노천탕이 있어서 색다른 경험이고 물에 상당히 민감한 편인데 여기서 온천하고 나오니까 머리결 정말 부들하고 몸이 건조하지 않다는게 좋았어요. 세상과 하루 정도 소통하고 싶지 않은 분들에게는 추천.. 위치가 도쿄역까지 10분 내외이기는 하지만 위치가 애매. 특히 주말은 오피스 상권이라 대부분의 레스토랑 문을 닫기 때문에 호텔 내에 식사할 거 아니면 이 점이 상당히 제한적. 그리고 조식은 Japanese style은 그나마 괜찮은데 western 은 너무 빈약하고 그리고 3가지 주스가 나오는데 직원분이 유리컵 아래가 아닌 입술 부분을 손으로 만지고 제공해줘서 결국 먹지도 못함. 그리고 다 개인실에서 식사를 하는 구조인데 직원에게 추가 요청을 하려면 나가서 직원을 찾아야 하는 번거로운 점이 있어요. 직원분들도 친절하고 도쿄내에서 료칸 스타일이라 색다른 경험은 분명 맞기는 한데 여기는 하루 이상 숙박은 추천하지 않아요. 이 가격대면 돈 조금 더 지불하고 자누, 불가리로 이용하는게 더 낫지않나 싶어요.

Nous avons passé une semaine dans cette hôtel magnifique. Pour manger et déjeuner nous préférions prendre le métro à deux minutes à pied et choisir ce que nous voulions manger. Les chambres sont très belles grande et très propre un peu sombre car lumière tamisée mais on si fait. L’hôtel est situé dans un quartier des banques donc pour sortir deux minutes à pieds et prendre le métro pour aller où vous voulez donc situation très pratique si on aime le calme la nuit en dehors de la cohue touristique. Pour ceux qui aiment faire la fête la nuit, l’hôtel n’est pas recommandé.

It was a very disappointing experience. I was never informed in advance that there would be additional charges for using the fitness club, swimming pool, and hot springs. The level of hospitality was also far below what I expected from a hotel in this price range. The staff experience was inconsistent as well. While I cannot say that everyone was unfriendly, some of the staff I interacted with did not come across as particularly kind or professional. I had wanted to experience HOSHINOYA Karuizawa for years, but since I did not have enough time to travel there, I decided to stay at HOSHINOYA Tokyo instead. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to my expectations. From my perspective, the hotel was significantly overpriced for the level of service provided. Based on this experience, I would not choose to stay at HOSHINOYA Tokyo etc. again when visiting Japan.

One of, if not the favourite stay we’ve had anywhere in the world in a long time. The hotel is gorgeous and truly unique - very traditional but with brilliant modern amenities and the kindest service. The late night onsen sessions were a favourite. Thank you to all the lovely staff who made our stay so lovely.
