The Orchid Hotel

I've stayed here a few times now. Bear in mind that they have now started charging for parking at an additional £10 per night which is a shame and I didn't see it mentioned in the hotel description. Lovely hotel and the staff were super nice when my car broke down, the receptionist even made me a free coffee while I was waiting for the RAC. I'd definitely stay there again but factor the parking into the price.

Cob webs on the walls. Small room with the air con not working. 3 of us one being a baby squeezed into a tiny room no offer of a crib as it wouldn’t fit. Lift not working. No offer of assistance with luggage and push chair. £15 for parking even though it’s their car park. Young girl working resturant and bar was polite and the location is 5 minutes from beach. I’d never stay here again.

Only the lift out of order is problem for me carry luggages to first floor. The breakfast food are good

Lovely reception and breakfast. Lift was out of order and we were not notified before, not offered any help. Triple room felt a bit essential considering the price. They charge £10 for parking overnight inside the property.

Only thing we have noticed over the years, is the lift has never worked. Air conditioning did not work either so quite cold. Staff friendly. Nice cosy atmosphere.

The breakfast and the AC make a difference in comparison to other hotels in the city. The room has space and is well distributed for comfort. There are spaces to chill out too, and it is very close to the beach. I recommend this hotel.

Very nice looking bar area, unfortunately were not able to make cocktails, had no salted peanuts, and apart from draught Guinness, no other ales, just lagers. A pity, because with very little effort this could be an appealing area for both pre and post dinner drinks.

A comfortable stay within easy walking distance of the seafront. Friendly staff and good parking options.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The website should make it clear that not all rooms have lift access and that the restaurant is not open every evening. The neighbouring area was primarily made up of apartments and small hotels. Restaurants and attractions in Bournemouth are 10 minutes walk away but the walk back to the hotel is uphill and may not be suitable for someone with health or mobility issues.

The Orchid was such a nice hotel. Great location! Room we were given for the 3 of us was a wonderful size so that we could spread out. Reason for not giving 5 stars across the board was that the lift was only available to staff which made carrying our luggage up the stairs a little difficult. The staff did help, which was much appreciated. Would stay here again!

Paint work in the room looked tired, scuff marks and chips. Some stains on the carpet.

Staff were really friendly and worked hard to ensure we had a comfortable stay. It’s a nice hotel, and while hotels in Bournemouth do struggle with upkeep, it’s clear the Orchid really try. It was a little chilly, but they did provide a heater and the important parts such as the clean sheets, big fresh towels and a clean modern bathroom were all immaculate. Breakfast was good and having a nice bar on site to relax was a great addition!

The room was grubby and the beds were uncomfortable. Mouldy bathtub, bad cleaning job all round, stains on lampshades, floor and chairs. The child’s bed was not possible to sleep in as it was all springs poking through. Needed a duvet to make it suitable. Dinner was, surprisingly, outstanding and waiter in restaurant saved the day.

Okay, but very tired. The double bed had a depression in it that I had back pains in the morning and the single bed is only for very small children and not young teenagers. People were smoking in other rooms so it smelt in the corridors , the lift did not work and neither Did the air con. There was a portable fan in the room but it was dusty and the room had a musky smell. Our window was blocked by a flat roof with no view and little opening for fresh air, which is disappointing since I booked this hotel 12 months ago and we felt like we had been shoehorned in last minute. It looks like some money has been spent superficially , the bathroom was nice but the finer details are poor for example a badly damaged painted bath panel straight from the 70’s school of decoration. We paid extra for the cooked breakfast which entailed one sausage one very small ration of bacon, a table spoon of beans and mushrooms and one egg scrambled and dry. The continelnal was not topped up so the earlier guests had eat all the pastries, cereal and bread and what was left was simply our choice. I didn’t ask for it to be topped up simply as I shouldn’t have too . So it was an okay stay, nothing special but as we stay in bournouth every year I don’t think I would stay here again.

Website stated water bottles provided, so didnt bring water. I asked where the water was and got told we dont do that. Lift "out of order" saw staff using though. Air con broken dirty stained carpets far from happy

We have stayed here before in a different part of the hotel, and this is why we came here again. Whilst the area appears a bit run down, the hotel is gorgeous and there are lots of thoughtful decorations and the room is well appointed. This time, however, we were kept awake and then woken up by banging and jumping for most of the evening (after 11pm and after 12:15am). It was a real shame as the beds were comfy and the room was nice. The bathroom was partially refurbed and whilst mostly clean, it was impossible to locate how to use the plug without screwing it into the bath (and stuggling to unscrew it!) and the shower screen fixings were peeling away and revealed a lot of dirt. The screen was fixed and didn't rotate, and you couldn't reach in to turn on the bath without getting in the bath. Apart from that I would still recommend the hotel as last time it was excellent which is why I rebooked.

Really disappointed. People upstairs arguing and banging around until 5am. Really poor sound insulation. Our ceiling / their floor creaked with every step they took. Our bathroom smelled strongly of mould. The toilet was dirty. Also the toilet was ridiculously positioned nearly up against the opposite wall so when sat your knees touched the wall. There was a half-set of broken off false nails on the floor near the bed. Ick. Not impressed. We won’t be returning.

Mattress spring broken and sagging Recent blood stain and hair on one pillow No cooked breakfast first day and poor quality other days Paintwork and decoration poor. Owner obviously doesn't care apart from overcharging.

Very inviting when you walk in the hotel, tasteful decor in lobby but room required maintenance, as worn out, wobbly tiles, missing grout, broken bath plug in the bathroom, flashing corridor light and bed was very uncomfortable, could feel the springs. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and the dinner in the restaurant was superb.

A nice, newly refurbished hotel with modern bar. Rooms were lovely with comfortable beds. Bathroom wasn't as new as the bedrooms, but still in a decent condition. There was a reasonable amount of onsite parking, although was full overnight on a Saturday. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only negative was the window blinds as there were no blackout curtains to block the sunrise. Would stay again.

Could not sleep due to the noise from large tubes from outside of my room or centra air conditioning system outside the room

The hotel is quite dated, and rooms are tired looking. Our ‘deluxe room’ was above the kitchen extraction system and therefore the view was awful. There was a smell of fried food and it was disappointing to say the least! We did ask to move but were told it wasn’t possible.

I’ve stayed here a few times before and the room I received was not a great standard. Could not open windows for fresh air as room was stuffy, cobwebs on Windows, window frames in a terrible state, hardly had any Wi-Fi in my room. Had to use my own hotspot. Reported it to reception but they said they could not do anything. Breakfast was late being served and had to eat staggered as and when the hot dishes came out,£17 for average breakfast. I had to pay £10 for parking as I booked through bookings.com but was told if I booked direct it would be free, what’s the difference I still booked with you. I doubt it very much I will stay here again as I’m down in Bournmouth every month for business. I stay at different hotels/b&b every for work and I for the rate I paid is shocking.

We were in room 100, which we found out was right about the very large and noisy extractor fans for the kitchen. Luckily they stopped around 10ish and started again at 6.58 the next morning. This wouldn’t have been quite so bad if there wasn’t really loud gushing water pipes above us (possibly toilets) that constantly disturbed us through the night. Left the next day as we were so tired, although we should have stayed the following night. Explained the situation and were told a manager would contact us, they didn’t and i have emailed twice already.

Had a very enjoyable one night stay to see a concert. It was convenient walk from the station and easy to get to the sea front. I am quite familiar with Bournemouth and this hotel was very good value. The room was spacious and the bathroom seemed quite new and fresh.

Average stay. Apart from being in a room next to a walkway door thats slams everytime someone walks through which constantly kept waking me up every few hours and at times was so loud it can feel like someone is entering my room.

The hotel is more run down than it used to be, it appears to be entering administration. They have introduced additional hidden charges such as parking, breakfast now costs more if you try and book it on arrival. The coffee at breakfast is now out of a conference pump machine rather than a cafetière. The night staff lady was very rude and the “master suite” blind doesn’t close so if you sit in the toilet you can make eye contact with the guests parking.

We loved our stay here the staff were amazing especially David ! Thank you for a wonderful few days

Visited Bournemouth for a stress free weekend & stayed at 'The Orchid Hotel for 1 night. Initially had issues trying to cancel a duplicate booking via Hotel.com & wasn't able to get a refund but Chrsyoula at the hotel authorised the refund with Hotel.com and my stress free break started all from there. The welcome was lovely to receive by a smiley Chrysoula. Hotel is nice/clean/pleasantly decorated. Twin room allocated was small however we were of petite stature so no issues. Staff in general are very helpful and accommodating. My phone charger didn't work & a male night shifter provided one straight away. The staff in general were always attentive to our needs. Chrysoula was very friendly & my cousin & I clicked with her straight away. Chrysoula went up & beyond to make our stay comfortable so a big Thank you! We will definitely visit & stay here again. Breakfast is superb! We so wished we had taken pictures as we both felt it was the best breakfast we have seen presented well in a long time. A lot of the major chains do not offer many choices...pineapple/melon cut thinly & perfectly, the oranges were juicy. Hot breakfast was kept heated by a burner under the trays. The hotel stands a short walking distance to the beach and pier. Those who fancy a walk, B'mouth pier to Boscombe Pier is a nice approx 2mile walk along the beach. Weather was perfect considering its October & you must try Chez Freds fish & chips in Westbourne! Shops walking distance so theres something for all!

Very pleasantly surprised by my stay at the Orchid, after a few disappointments in Bournemouth. Very welcoming check in, professional, warm and humorous. Room was light, airy and clean, with comfy bed and all the amenities I needed. Bathroom was well equipped and there was a bar & restaurant if I needed it as well as on site parking. I’d recommend it and I’d go back here next time in in Bournemouth

Not until you booked that a £10. parking charge was incurred. Wanted a £50 security deposit but if on your credit the return would not be given until 7-21 business working days unless you paid cash restaurant was closed pm overpriced bar prices, lift out of order, no offer of assistance with luggage which we had to carry upstairs and along distance to room. My husband being 81 and myself 70 so a bit of a struggle. Room carpet full of stains. Slight issue with shower. No bottled water no glasses. Very disappointed shall not be returning, not value for money!!

The check in was lengthy and complicated due to how we had booked on line but then sorted . The car park fee is far too much was cross about this x The room was fine but no lift working ! Hardly any staff about to help with questions once booked in x The carpet in our room looked old and stains in places and window blind broken Room 205 . Fortunately we had eaten out at lunch time as people waiting for their early evening meal were let down as apparently the Chef had left in an emergency ! No one at the bar to serve only one receptionist on trying to check in deal with the bar and make soup/sandwich for one couple who had booked a meal she rang to cancel the others ! I felt very sorry for her as clearly she was stressed . The bar didn’t have many supplies of draft beer or cider no nibbles at all which a few people asked for as no food available x So there were quite a few things not good there x just seemed there were not enough staff at all . Breakfast was ok but buffet style only so food had been cooked for quite a while and one man got his money back as they ran out of bacon ! Looking back at your reviews these are common factors over the last few months and clearly nothing has been done to rectify any of these problems x I stayed there a few years ago and it was first class but won’t be returning unless it gets better such a shame as it’s a lovely small hotel the staff that were there were very pleasant but clearly not happy! You will lose custom soon!!

AWFUL STAY! Stayed 2 nights. Bad stay on 2nd night as kept awake all night with rowdy/fighting guests in bar beneath our room. Started at 11:50pm with guests standing outside the main entrance drinking, smoking and talking loudly. Tried to call reception on numerous occasions but no answer. Husband had to go to the bar at 3:30am to complain to barman and ask for them to quieten down, this never happened! Ended at 6:10am when the two guests had a very heated argument/fight with swearing at the top of their voices! Reported to male receptionist F at front desk at 9 am, said he was aware of the rowdy guests who had run up a bar bill without paying and then checked out, so the staff were fully aware of the situation that had happened during the night. We were told to email the hotel manager Rose G which I did the next morning, no response! I then emailed through Expedia and had a short response from female C to say the email was not received but no new email address provided so sent the explanation/complaint through Expedia (who I had also informed about the stay) so I know the hotel would see these messages. In total I have sent 10 emails, made 2 phone calls and was told someone would contact me back....it has now been over 3 months since this started and NOT ONE RESPONSE OR CONTACT FROM ANYONE AT THE ORCHID HOTEL. I cannot believe all the glowing reviews about certain members of staff, all I can say is you are very lucky! No wonder the hotel is being sold off...AVOID!

Another excellent relaxing short stay at the Orchid Hotel We have stayed here last year and will definitely stay again this year The staff are all polite friendly and professional. Tom on the bar and restaurant was very attentive and a joy to speak with as was Joana on reception, The hotel is in a residential area and this makes for a relaxing stay.The food in the restaurant was excellent beautifully presented and delicious. Complements to the chef.

Hotel staff were great, service times were a tad slow but could tell there were understaffed, bed was abit hard for our liking but still slept okay, the room was nice and cosy but could do with some tlc nothing major

Great 2 night stay in a twin room. One bed did have a significant dip in it from wear - was still comfy though!! Compact room, had everything we could need for our stay. Great location just 10 min walk from the Pier/beachfront.

My second stay at this hotel, it is a decent place not far from both the town centre and the seafront.

A very nice little hotel that was extremely convenient for a gig we were attending, and also close to a street with a lot of restaurants to choose from for dinner. The beds were very comfortable, everything was very clean, and the staff friendly. We only spent one night here and didn’t use the restaurant or bar, so can’t comment on that. We ate breakfast elsewhere as the price seemed a little expensive. Parking was easy here, but again seemed a little expensive but the cost of the room was extremely reasonable, so it was balanced out. The hotel was quiet, bearing in mind we were in the ground floor, and there were no events on the night we stayed. The room we stayed in had two minor things that stopped it from being perfect. The position of the toilet in the bathroom was so close to the heated radiator and towels that it was very difficult to sit down! For anyone with long legs, I’m not sure how they would manage! We also had a kettle that did not switch itself off at boiling point. On reflection, we probably should have made reception aware of that so the kettle could be replaced. Overall a lovely hotel.

Nice place, great location for central Bournemouth. Everything walkable. Place is clean enough, friendly staff, it’s needs a little love in places but nice overall for a short weekend stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay at the orchid hotel, room was nice and clean, the staff were lovely, breakfast was lovely, the only thing I would say is that the evening menu could do with changing each evening or having more choice of mains. Overall a lovely stay

We ate at the hotel both evenings during our stay and the food was excellent. Great quality, good portions and very good value. Our waitress, Valentina was a credit to your company, very polite and helpful.

Only stayed 1 night so hard to make real observations. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast buffet style including the hot breakfast. Only disappointing point was they do not do cocktails in the bar. But would say for a small hotel in a town that has alot of accommodations it is good & would go back.

Great reception, staff very friendly. Room well appointed and clean. Great value.. Restaurant was a bit strange in the evening. No Starters available, and had to send the main back as cold, but the waiter couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was great through.

This property is ideally situated as its walking distance to both Bournemouth beach and the city centre. The hotel is lovely and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. We had booked 2 rooms for a family of 5. Both rooms were spacious and had a kettle, coffee machine, iron and hairdryer. There was a function on at the hotel but we were not disturbed much by the noise and the hotel had informed us beforehand. The only downside was the hotel breakfast. It was very overpriced and the selection is poor. I would advise eating out for breakfast. I would definitely stay agian.
