The parking area was safe right behind the building. The cleanliness was unmatched and the very helpful staff was amazing. The sheets, towels and shower were very clean. We will be returning again!

We enjoyed our visit at the painted Lady. We had to climb three flights of stairs. There did not appear to be an elevator. That was not a problem for us, but I could see how it would be a problem for other people. The bed and pillows were very comfortable

Nice Room and furnishings. It lacked in comfort and amenities. My husband was trying to get closer to me at night in the bed and every time he tried he would fall into a dip in the bed. Needless to say he never got close. The TV was too small for the distance it was from the bed, but most of all there was not a coffee maker in sight. For the price of the stay, I expected more.

We loved this hotel. It was quaint and comfortable. The shower was amazing. The only thing I wish it would’ve had is a mini fridge to keep drinks in and maybe a coffee maker. But otherwise it was perfect.

What a lovely little boutique hotel, new to Birmingham! Was a wonderful stay, perfectly walkable to all the fun downtown restaurants and bars. The one thing that came by surprise was the fact that there was no elevator & our room was on the third floor. While not a huge deal, it would be worth noting in case others aren’t aware of that and are in need of that.

It is very cool but there is no elevator which was fine for us but would not work if you can’t walk up a floor or two. No ice available but the bar next door Bygones is amazing.

Fun place to stay! Very nicely refurbished old building. Very sweet staff, they were eager to answer questions. Our room was very comfortable! The only drawback is that there is no elevator. Be prepared for stairs!

We selected to stay at the Painted Lady as we needed a place in Birmingham for a wedding weekend. The unit was clean and had the essentials we needed. The owner and employees were very friendly and welcoming!! It was raining sideways when we had to leave, and I was dressed up and didn't have an umbrella. The owner, grabbed his umbrella and assisted me out to the car!! That's going above and beyond service right there! Not to mention, they had an office dog (head of security), Sub. He was the sweetest! Would stay here again if we needed to :)

The hotel was extremely clean and very beautiful inside and was perfectly within walking distance of everywhere we went for our night in Birmingham! Would definitely stay again and the service was top notch!

The restoration of this historic building was beautifully done. We enjoyed our stay, but I wanted to provide detailed feedback due to some quirks and booking-site misinformation. A café was listed but doesn’t exist. There is a tea/coffee area (no decaf, and water from a small, unfiltered kitchen sink). We expected café seating for work, but that wasn’t the case, and the room was too small to work comfortably (unless in bed). Only one shared mini-fridge was available, which we opted not to use. Our king room, though stylish, was much smaller than expected—really suited for one person. Minimal storage: one luggage rack, a small hanging bar, and no dresser. For two people, it felt cramped. The bathroom looked nice but wasn’t functional—no shower shelf or seat, awkward toilet paper placement, and nowhere to prop a leg while bathing. The bed and especially the pillows were uncomfortable—flat and unsupportive. We couldn’t control the thermostat, and the room was uncomfortably warm at night. The staff was exceptional—friendly and helpful throughout. Parking was easy (street only), though the booking site inaccurately mentioned off-street parking. We had an amazing stay at The Painted lady. Jing was very communicative and helped with a number of recommendations. We were only staying as a brief getaway and found out Birmingham’s good scene is pretty awesome. I’d stay at this clean, artsy, quirky, cool hotel a million times more!

Everything to like, a brand new place with a well thought out conversion of an interesting building into a true boutique hotel, rooms are a really nice (as in large) size, more than agree with all the other comments on the ultra comfy beds/sheets, no street noise and easy parking outside, just a few blocks to 2 fave restaurants in one direction and more central places in the other, wish them well and will be staying here next visit to B'ham for sure.

Amazing staff greeted us upon arrival, along with a friendly dog! Rooms are perfect for a stay for couples or individuals. Close to nightlife and restaurants…safe entry for lobby and rooms. Will be back!!

It was peaceful and quiet. They upgraded me to a king size bed for free and the room was pink, my favorite color. Also, my original room was on the 3rd floor, the new one was on thw 2nd which was a plus due to them only having stairs.

What a charming and interesting, historical building. Miro at the front desk was friendly and helpful with assisting us with our stay, dinner plans and a lovely park, Vulcan Park, with history and a wonderful view.

We had an amazing stay at The Painted lady. Jing was very communicative and helped with a number of recommendations. We were only staying as a brief getaway and found out Birmingham’s good scene is pretty awesome. I’d stay at this clean, artsy, quirky, cool hotel a million times more!

While I was in town for work, a severe thunderstorm caused a leak in the ceiling of my room. Ashley and the front desk attendant were beyond helpful and understanding and quickly helped me move to a new room.

Everything to like, a brand new place with a well thought out conversion of an interesting building into a true boutique hotel, rooms are a really nice (as in large) size, more than agree with all the other comments on the ultra comfy beds/sheets, no street noise and easy parking outside, just a few blocks to 2 fave restaurants in one direction and more central places in the other, wish them well and will be staying here next visit to B'ham for sure.

Amazing staff greeted us upon arrival, along with a friendly dog! Rooms are perfect for a stay for couples or individuals. Close to nightlife and restaurants…safe entry for lobby and rooms. Will be back!!

The restoration of this historic building was beautifully done. We enjoyed our stay, but I wanted to provide detailed feedback due to some quirks and booking-site misinformation. A café was listed but doesn’t exist. There is a tea/coffee area (no decaf, and water from a small, unfiltered kitchen sink). We expected café seating for work, but that wasn’t the case, and the room was too small to work comfortably (unless in bed). Only one shared mini-fridge was available, which we opted not to use. Our king room, though stylish, was much smaller than expected—really suited for one person. Minimal storage: one luggage rack, a small hanging bar, and no dresser. For two people, it felt cramped. The bathroom looked nice but wasn’t functional—no shower shelf or seat, awkward toilet paper placement, and nowhere to prop a leg while bathing. The bed and especially the pillows were uncomfortable—flat and unsupportive. We couldn’t control the thermostat, and the room was uncomfortably warm at night. The staff was exceptional—friendly and helpful throughout. Parking was easy (street only), though the booking site inaccurately mentioned off-street parking. The location was convenient to restaurants and bars. Note: no elevator, though this was well disclosed!! I overheard guests chatting about this, but felt the hotel did more than enough to ensure guests were aware. What a lovely little boutique hotel, new to Birmingham! Was a wonderful stay, perfectly walkable to all the fun downtown restaurants and bars. The one thing that came by surprise was the fact that there was no elevator & our room was on the third floor. While not a huge deal, it would be worth noting in case others aren’t aware of that and are in need of that.

It is very cool but there is no elevator which was fine for us but would not work if you can’t walk up a floor or two. No ice available but the bar next door Bygones is amazing.

I recently stayed at the Painted Lady Hotel and really loved it. The staff were super friendly, the location was perfect for getting around, and my room was cozy, modern, and super comfortable.

Nice Room and furnishings. It lacked in comfort and amenities. My husband was trying to get closer to me at night in the bed and every time he tried he would fall into a dip in the bed. Needless to say he never got close. The TV was too small for the distance it was from the bed, but most of all there was not a coffee maker in sight. For the price of the stay, I expected more.

We loved this hotel. It was quaint and comfortable. The shower was amazing. The only thing I wish it would’ve had is a mini fridge to keep drinks in and maybe a coffee maker. But otherwise it was perfect.

Excellent place. Was one of the cleanest places I have stayed at. Decor was nice and it didn't feel like your chain motel. Don't hesitate to book.

Great room and stay in the old red light district of Birmingham. Within walking distance to one of the best restaurants, Bamboo on 2nd. Plenty of street parking right outside. Beds, pillows, sheets are super comfortable. Highly recommend this property

Be very careful before booking here. Read lots of reviews to get an accurate understanding. First, the staff was fine and helpful. The following comments aren’t aimed at them. [1]. There is no elevator. It’s a 3 story property. The stairs from 2nd to 3rd floor are less than 3’ wide, and steps are only normal depth. If your luggage is 25 pounds or more and/or wide, and/or if you’re not fit and coordinated, it could be an adventure. Someone is surely going to fall and get injured. [2] Shower floors are slippery as ice. Not just a little slippery, dangerously slippery. Poor material choice. [3] Very poor / unprofessional workmanship in many areas. For example, all door handles I saw were installed backwards. Including the front door, guest rooms. [4] The king bed was so sloped from one side to the other that it was comical. Small issues too, like no ice in the hotel. Overall, it wasn’t terrible. But [1] and [2] above lead me to this: I would say ‘no’ to those over 50 and anyone who is infirm, unfit and/or uncoordinated, or anyone with heavy luggage.
