MainStay Suites Salt Lake City Fort Union

Hotel was clean, rooms were good, bed was good, had kitchenette with full fridge. Had great water pressure in the bath/shower. Decent gym/workout room. Price was great for the hotel accommodations.

Very nice room. Has kitchen, dishwasher, and full refrigerator. I thought I was in a small apartment. Only problem was it didn't have a ice machine on the property.

Great to stay in this hotel again for the Half Marathon. Clean and spacious room. Comfortable bed. Able to get late check out. Surprisingly NO Ice machine anywhere in this hotel? Can this be right for a hotel that caters specifically for long stay guests?

The parking lot needs repair before someone trips over the large pothole or a car gets damaged driving over it. The property was conveniently located near restaurants and some commercial businesses.

Very nice property considering the low cost. Only complaint is there were only 3 pillows for two people. Most people need at least two. Laundry facilities are excellent but it would have been nice to have a breakfast or coffee bar. However there are multiple restaurants nearby

NO POOL & NO BREAKFAST. The Website is Incorrect. Coffee and Tea Only. Coffee was mediocre. I was looking fwd to the Pool. Used the exercise room; one treadmill handle was broken. Hallway carpets on the 3rd floor needs a shampoo. Bed was soft. Had to get room key "reprogrammed" 2 times. Not ideal! It does happen "often" per the staff. Sorry, I will not be staying here again, nor recommend.

Great location, easy freeway access, LOTS of shopping and restaurants, safe area . . The room was very clean and comfortable. No pool or spa, but it did have an exercise room, though I didn't use it. I would recommend it to friends.

It's a great location: (1) in the middle of a very big shopping area (all walkable, to include eateries near by) and (2) easy access to I-215 which allows you to easily get to most areas around Salt Lake City via either I-215 (belt loop) or I-15. Since I was here just to visit family (spread about in the valley), it was very convenient. The room I booked (to include a small kitchen) was very clean. No odd smells. The laundry facilities and the exercise room was actually better than most place I stayed at; e.g., areas were clean, not small, and the exercise (gym) room had a lot of machines to use. Staff was very friendly. Only negative was that there was a family that had a pet on the same floor, and probably not to far away from my room as I can hear the dog on occasions, though not at night ... phew. If I was visiting Salt Lake City again, I would definitely consider this place again.

Both days we stayed there was no breakfast served and we were told there would be. Also when checking out a staff person behind the desk ( the manager I believe) was yelling at a lady who stepped up and tapped on the counter. He told her to take her attitude elsewhere and she had literally not said one single word. Would never stay here again

Just not cleaned well. Lots of hair, lots of odd smells, blood on TP rolls.

Only door that worked was main door, area around hotel wasn't very clean. A lot of trash and cigarette butts around. Room smelled dirty.We ended our stay early.

We live 4.5 hrs away and often go to slc for concerts. We dont need anything fancy just a safe place to sleep before driving home. Weve stayed here a few times before and no complaints but this time was different. Its gone downhill. The elevator make scary sus sounds like its breaking. The room was dirty. There was nut shells in the furniture, stains on the carpet, blood drops on the sheets, damage to walls and shower, dirty furniture. The area is decent and staff was friendly but the room just felt gross. We checked out first thing. Wont be staying again. Disappointing bc price is good but not worth the uncleanliness.

There were cockroaches and other bugs.

The property and room were very clean and comfortable

We stayed here because it is close to the loading area for a half marathon we were running. The property has gone downhill since we stayed there last year. The stairwell smelled like weed and we were woken by a fire alarm at 5:30am. Our bathroom had hair on the floor when we checked in and the room was musty smelling. We will be looking for another place to stay for next year's race.

Discovered cockroach infestation on the first night. Bugs of all types present but cockroaches seen in the kitchen area, sink, and inside cupboards. Cupboard contained dirty dishes. I brought this tothe management who was totally apathetic. They said they had a no refunds policy and refused to reimburse unused balance. I can understand no refunds for canceling without health reasons bit this is unreasonable. Expedia was ofno useand did not advocate on my behalf to an adequate resolution. I wouldn't recommend this motel or expedia.

My room smelled terrible, like there was a dead animal decaying somewhere. It may have been the pillows. The hallways always had bits of paper/trash on the floor. I hate being disturbed by vacuuming in the hallways every day early in the morning at most hotels I stay at, but it would have been nice if this hotel had vacuumed once a week in the afternoon. Or, the maids could be paid to pick up the bits of paper and discarded wrappers by hand--it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes. I also found the heat was turned up way too high. I had to turn on the air conditioner in my room--in the middle of winter! There were a couple of degenerates who pulled up outside the hotel at 3am with their music blasting. It would have been nice if the management had immediately checked them out. Lots of people had dogs, and there was dog poop, cigarette butts, and trash littering the area outside the hotel.

The property is too old, especially the amenities in the room, including the A/C, TV, and fridge. I think it's high time the management should upgrade them, as the room smells disgusting because of it, and the sound coming from all that equipment was terrible; I couldn't get the proper sleep because of all the above reasons. After checking in, I was so tired that I fell asleep immediately upon reaching the room. Regrettably, the lack of a change in either the sheets or the blanket caused me to wake up with an allergy after 45 minutes. When I informed the staff, they immediately changed the sheets and blanket, but this incident highlights their lack of cleanliness. Although the staff is friendly, I do not recommend staying at this hotel. Find an alternative dude and sleep better.

Large rooms (suites) for same price of a small hotel room.

There were lots of pans and utensils but the dishwasher was broken and the door was completely janky, my big strong boyfriend had to slam into it to open it. This was a dog friendly hotel, so there were fleas in our room despite us not having a pet. Customer service was nice about what they could take care of immediately.

Nice room but it had a funky smell. Smelled like warm seafood. Had to walk to target across the street to get some air freshener spray to get it to stink less.

Staff members were very helpful and friendly. However, cleaning could be improved. The kitchen was generally clean but the bathroom had not been thoroughly cleaned upon arrival, hair on floor and lower shelf of sink vanity. Hair dryers are available, but do need to be checked out at the desk. The luggage cart had two flat wheels and this made movement and steering difficult to say the least. The rooms are spacious, the closet is large to keep clutter to a minimum (room for all luggage, clothing, cooler, and more), and the work space was excellent. The WiFi is not secure, requiring us to use a hotspot. One recommendation would be to improve WiFi security give the work area provided, as the work area was a selection factor for our stay. This hotel does appear to have several people in transitional living. While this was not a concern for us, some may see it as a barrier, and we caution this may not be the best pick for those sensitive to diversities of life.

Very convenient with all the comforts of home, I did have some very noisy upstairs neighbors one night but luckily they checked out the next day.

The bed is very uncomfortable and I always hear a sound especially in the middle of the night. It wasn't a pleasant stay.

Room looks like small apartment. It has microwave, stovetop, refrigerator, tea boiler and so on.

The room and bathroom, the hallways were spotless but my TV wouldn't work, the coffee maker didnt work and i had to turn the refrigerator off to sleep because it was so noisy. The staff was friendly.

Did not sleep well due to an unruly guest in a room above me. Sounded as though they were running and jumping up and down in the room; possibly kids. I heard a staff person tell them to stop at 11 pm, but after a while they continued to make noise and it went beyond midnight. The room was fabulous and the property safe and quiet otherwise.

I stayed for four nights without hot water. Management did not want to talk to me and left it to the person at the front desk to tell me that there would be "no reimbursements for any of the guests". There was clear water damage from issues in the past and the current solution was a large waste bin in the hallway to catch water from a leaking pipe. Additionally back door lock is broken so anyone can walk into the building.

The employees were super helpful, friendly, and accommodating

It sounded like people were throwing furniture around right above, literally shaking the building, until 3am after I called the front desk twice, and they started again in the morning! Barely slept. The sign in the room showed checkout to be noon, so I thought I could get a little sleep and then work in the morning, but 11 am, staff was banging on the door telling me to leave. I showed the sign on the door and was rudely told that their policies changed, even though the sign clearly stated noon. I explained that I got no sleep due to the incredible noise, and instead of apologizing for the noise preventing me from sleeping and the inconvenience, and allowing me to stay to finish my work until the stated time of noon, she rudely told me I needed to be out by 11:30. Very unprofessional and poor customer service. I would have given a great rating had it not been for these experiences. I called the front desk twice due to the noise and it took well over an hour for it to stop and only for a short time, the noise resumed a couple of hours later.

The manager is awful, unprofessional and very rude racist.

Staff was amazing

Incredible customer service here! I had to call about a few things, and everyone I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. When Expedia didn't notify them of my reservation change, they still honored it instead of charging me again, and they allowed me to keep my luggage there all day after check-out, while I waited to go to my next accommodation. Also, the room was impeccably clean and felt nice! Loved the stove, full sized fridge, and cooking utensils/pans, etc. The property is within 5-10 minutes walking distance of every single store or restaurant you could ever want (Target, Walmart, Trader Joes, Home Depot, In & Out, Chipotle, Denny's, Ross, Barnes & Noble, Old Navy, Starbucks, World Market, plus, lots of other ones) Awesome stay! :)

There was a serious issue where the information Mainstay Suites advertises on expedia was not accurate. When I made my reservation on expedia, it stated a "deposit" of $50 for a pet, $10. The hotel was advertised as pet friendly. When I arrived to check in, I was told they do not allow cats. I explained there was nothing on expedia prohibiting cats. The manager, Sandra, begrudgingly checked me in, without even bothering to point me in the direction of my room. I had to ask. The following morning I returned to the desk with my laptop to show the hotel what I had seen on expedia when booking so it could be corrected. The $50 was described as a deposit, not a fee. I expected it to be returned since I kept my room clean and free of damage. I had to deal with yet another rude employee, who stated I "had no reason to come down to the desk and be rude". I immediately corrected the employee that I DID have a reason to be at the desk asking about this issue, and I had been very polite and considerate. She offered to refund the rest of my stay. Since my vehicle was in the shop I declined. I was booked for an 8 day stay, and this was the morning of day 2. They sent a housekeeper to the room to see if I had checked out while I was in the shower a few hours later. When I called the desk to clarify, I was treated with hostility and expected to check out. I had to call the police, who agree upon arrival that it was illegal for the property to engage in self help evictions. DO NOT STAY HERE

Good property. Lots of dining and shopping options within a 3 minute drive

We stayed at this property for a second year in a row for a trip in to ski at Snowbird. It’s an easy 25 minute drive to Snowbird from the hotel-up the hill in good weather, and the location around the hotel is full of restaurants, shops, and other conveniences. The property has a studio apartment feel with a kitchen, full-size refrigerator, stove, etc. I would’ve liked to have a bigger bed or a two bed option but it’s a small queen bed only that I’ve stayed in. Parking was easy and free, easy access to interstate 215 and interstate 15 north and south a few miles away. It’s sort of like having an apartment when I travel which i really prefer vs. a regular hotel room. The staff were generally very friendly. As a lot of people staying, there will be staying multiple days, just be aware that some kitchen smells might be in the hallway. Somebody was microwave cooking Mexican burritos or something like that close to our room and it gets vented into our bathroom, which is a little weird. Overall, we plan on using this as our homebase anytime we come to Salt Lake City. The price was right and so many amenities close by. You don’t have to drive very far to find someplace to eat or shop.

The showers are really nice. Nearby Orange Theory, Barnes and Noble, Target, and Home Depot and Starbucks in Target. There is also an ice cream store nearby. Other restaurants are close but usually don't frequent them.

Out of the way and easy to get to in Sandy. Compares well to nearby hotels on the low end. Has kitchenet, Would be great for skiing with canyons nearby. Quiet. No pool

Property is not very clean or well maintained. Refrigerator/freezer smelled terrible and made loud noise when turned on. On the positive side, location is conveniently located along ski bus routes.

Good cheap option just outside of Salt Lake City. Convenient area with Target across the street. Rooms were large and clean, but nothing fancy. Staff seemed fine. Parking was safe and easy.

A nice, safe, quiet and clean place to rest at night. I went to SLC for a hiking trip and this was perfect. If I wanted to spend more time at a hotel for the property / facility I probably would choose another place - but it was perfect for what I needed! Within walking distance of several restaurants and stores as well!

It’s good for the price there are some sketchy characters

The room has oven, microwave and toaster. Very useful if you want to cook your own food. The room is spacious and clean. Target is within walking distance if you want to buy groceries.

Leaving a funeral and looked for a cheap place to unwind.... This hotel was very unexpected. The area is amazingly convenient with tons of shopping and food within walking distance. The room was also fantastic and fully stocked with a full fridge, hotplate, microwave and dishwasher. Also had a very large desk if you need.

It’s surrounded by big box stores, fast food, and a Trader Joe’s, all very convenient for using the kitchen. Staff was great. Coffee was supposed to be available in the mornings but was gone every time we checked. They need to brew more! Rooms were nice

Nice room for the price...also located close to several national chain restaurants.

My stay at mainstay worked well for my snowboarding trip. It was very affordable and not far from a park and ride out to big cottonwood canyon. At first I found the location in a retail plaza odd, but I had target and Trader Joe’s right there so groceries and supplies were easy to grab. Even saw mountains from my hotel room window. Bottom of the barrel paper towels and toilet paper were provided so I picked up nicer ones from target and made my stay more comfortable. Honestly I would stay again since my trip for the best powder in the world was cheaper than anywhere else I snowboard out west.

I spoke with multiple staff members during my stay and all were friendly and helpful. There are so many places to shop and eat nearby. They don’t serve food here but the vending machines have microwave food options and all of the vending was well priced and well stocked. The room had a comfortable bed and was well lit with many electrical outlets. I recommend this hotel.

One of two very affordable places near the Family Center, Ft. Union. Condition and service was better. Has a large fridge, good cable TV. Right in the middle of all kinds of shopping and restaurants. Would book again.

The hallway need carpets cleaned, halls don't smell very clean. The parking lot was awful, huge hole right out front. The kitchen floors in suites were not cleaned. Nasty note stuffed under the door on the ground as I walked in...probably for the previous long-term guest. Just not what you want to read getting ready to stay the night. No breakfast, coffee was good though and real creamer was a plus.
