Beautiful Location, Poor Upkeep The Chateau Resort and Conference Center near Camelback Mountain, Pennsylvania, sits on a beautiful property with scenic lake views and a convenient location. Unfortunately, the hotel’s condition does not live up to its potential. The exterior looks attractive, but maintenance issues become apparent inside. The entrance fountain was off, and the lobby fireplace featured in online photos remained unlit throughout my stay. The outdoor deck overlooking the lake lacked cushions on its seating. The large on-site restaurant and bar has a well-designed kitchen and beautiful views, but it was virtually empty on Friday and Saturday evenings. The downstairs area also appeared to be closed off. The recreational facilities were particularly disappointing. The pool had sections of missing concrete, most of the 15–20 arcade games appeared nonfunctional, and none of the treadmills or ellipticals in the fitness center seemed to work. The hallways on floors two through four are dark and outdated, with worn carpeting and old-fashioned lighting. My room was acceptable overall, and the balcony was a nice feature, but the table was damaged, the chair was broken, and the furnishings looked dated. The conference rooms I viewed appeared clean. Overall, this property has tremendous potential but needs significant attention to maintenance. The location, grounds, lake views, and spacious facilities are excellent assets. Absolute trash. Room smelled awful when we walked in. There was what looked like black mold and water damage in the corner. The furniture was old and falling apart. The sliding glass door did not close properly. You had to lift the door to the room up to be able to lock it. The tub drain was filled with hair. The ac/heat unit was most likely original to the dang hotel and did not work properly. The entire hotel is outdated and had no air conditioning! The “arcade” had two games that worked and the room was about 110 degrees so we couldn’t stay down there if we wanted to. The gym also didn’t have ac. Who could workout like that?! The only good part was the beds were clean and very comfy. Also loved the bartender Debra. Other than that the whole hotel was awful! Stay anywhere else.
