The “deluxe” rooms are nicer than their standard rooms with shared bathrooms that are a series of standalone bathrooms which you can use with privacy: in other words not the dorm like / gym locker room like bathrooms in the non-deluxe rooms

Something is wrong with the wiring in this place. Was put in room 902. Only 1 outlet (which had 1 plug-in) in the room worked and it was for the window unit. Had a TV on the other side of the room but that outlet didn't work nor the others in the room. Requested new room. Got moved to 901. Room slightly bigger (all rooms in NYC are small) & had a mini frig. Managed to get 3 total plug-ins from 2 outlets to work. Had to rotate the air conditioner, mini frig and 2 cell phones, TV, hair straightener, & Garmin watch on them. Over head light would dim / brighten back & forth. $10 per day at check-in for access to amenities. Room very basic but you get what you need (if outlets work). You get 1 towel per person so bring a wash cloth. Extra blankets available in the room. Beds were comfy though whoever sleeps on top bunk needs not be someone who tosses a lot at night as the whole frame wiggles. Bathrooms were separated from men & women. Dorm style. Was given a code to get in the bathroom on our floor but it opened without it. There is 3 bathroom stales & 3 shower stales. Never had a problem getting either at any time. Nice hot water. Smoke free. Elevators timely. There was always someone watching who entered the lobby. I like that & most of them were nice, but a couple had attitudes. Location was fantastic. Felt safe. Central Park 1/2 block away. 1 street over from where to enter through security for the grandstands to the marathon. 2 blocks to the subway at Columbus Circle.

This is an amazing place to stay! Wonderful gym facilities and beautiful pool. I loved access to steam room and sauna. Extremely handy for Lincoln Centre and NYPL. And right on Central Park. Also appreciated that the subway station nearby was accessible, so great for luggage moving. Might have been an off evening for someone but check-in was not particularly friendly or welcoming. But I was delighted overall.

Budget lodging near Lincoln Center The M7 and M11 stop at the corner on Broadway. There is no restaurant in the buildlng. I stayed in room 824. The safe was large enough for a 13-inch laptop. The television linked to news. There was an attractive mirrro. The bed was uncomfortable. There was no sheet. The mattress was lumpy. I had trouble finding any position for sleep. The chain lock was missing a bolt; it could not be locked.

I stayed here for the gym. I was not disappointed.

Great location close to subway, Central Park and Broadway. Gym and pool were fabulous. Reception staff were very helpful. Rooms and bathrooms are older, often things didn't work eg lamp or no chair in the room and the bathrooms were cramped.

8th floor smelled just like rotten trash or fish. And cockroach appeared in the room. We changed our room to upper floor and it was better but still had stranger's hair left on the pillow and bed. Staffs who were working at the front desk were fine, but cleaning system is terrible.

Excellent location, easy check in, able to store a bag, and the price is unbeatable. Lost a star because the bathroom was a mess this time. Not dirty, but puddles of water on the floor next to the sinks, handles fell off the shower, sinks wouldn’t turn off, etc. Stayed on an upper floor last time with single person bathrooms and they were much nicer than the 8th floor with 3 person bathrooms.

We had our own room, I have to say it is well maintained considering the facility’s age. The staff was kind, and the location was great. Unfortunately, my aunt on the bottom bunk bed couldn’t sleep due to bed bug bites. I’m not sure if I could request a refund for this inconvenience.

This is the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. Uncomfortable bed, dirty bathrooms, tiny space, unfriendly staff. I will never stay here again.

A spot for brave souls on the budget. The bed was ok, the floor is dirty. 3 showers for the whole floor… the smell in the room was weird, the room size ok. You would want to come there as late as possible and leave as early as you can to enjoy the city or what you are for in NY. There might be better budget options out there…

Easily the worst hostel I have ever stayed at. Floors of the room were filthy. Hallways stunk. There was poop all over the washrooms. I know it’s a hostel and standards aren’t going to be the highest and I come knowing that but I figured at least bare minimal cleanliness standards would be at least slightly met. No issues with the staff I interacted with but I had very little interaction with them. If you’re looking to stay at a hostel, spend a little more and try the International Student Center.

I’ve been visiting NYC on a regular basis since the late 90’s, and I had been to YMCA before, but this was the dirtiest room I have ever been to. Extremely dirty! When I tried to walk around the room, my flip flops would stay behind, because it was as if there were glue in the carpet, which was extremely dirty, sticky, and with hair all over the place. Awful! They haven’t cleaned that room for ages, and I doubt they have changed the sheets. The floor in the Common bath was wet all the time, like a pond. Dirty sink and hair all over the place. Do not recommend!

This property has major plumbing issues, shower backs up and overflows, no hot water, leaky sink. This place remind me of a homeless shelter.

Had to leave as the room was grubby, and there were cockroaches. Awaiting a refund

The room was clean. The toilets, showers and sinks were not clean. The mats at the gym were not clean either. The a/c in my room was not working properly but it got the room cool enough. The a/c was extremely noisy. The blinds in the room were broken. The hallway was terribly noisy. The rooms are mainly occupied by young students and most of them did lack respect by playing music with their room door open for every body to hear or setting up their speakers in the bathrooms. I was staying for a week. Every morning, evening and night, students would knock at my door thinking it was one of their fellow’s room or they would just knock for fun and run away.

I didn't like at all that the bathroom & room doors were constantly slamming shut in a very loud way; & the YMCA should find an expert to fix that type of terrible problem. Otherwise, constantly banging doors shut can keep their paying guests from falling asleep & getting some rest at night.

It is a dorm style property, location is great in Manhattan, but inner condition is just average. I left my bath towel at public bathroom and it was missing overnight. So be mindful of personal belongings.

10th Floor room were poorly maintained. Very few outlets. TV not working. Internet spotty. Bathrooms small and crapped. In the past, other floors have been better.

Good location and cheap. With a nice gym. But the rooms were very noisy because of bad sound proof. And needs renovating.

Not a bad place to stay if for one night but a bit pricey for what you get. My mattress was not comfortable. I could feel the coils since it was well worn. Bedding was adequate but skimpy and lacking of comfort. That stated, staying here is like most of NYC. It's a place to sleep and not spend anymore time than necessary.

Good location and cool ac in private room. It is basically an old dorm room. I did like having access to the gym facilities. Only 1 towel was provided. No daily cleaning offered.

Quick and easy! The Y is no frills and most importantly “ECONOMICAL” I appreciate there service for the price. Only situation that was a bit annoying was the person at the luggage storage. A little bully and not pleasant at all. The younger lady was lovely and helpful. My only complaint

The staff was friendly checking me in along with security being friendly.

Great place for a one night stay just for sleep, however staff need to take their responsibilities more; it was 1 am when me and four other guests were waiting almost 35 minutes waiting for him, until we found out that he left mid shift to “pick up food”

If you are checking in with a group, EACH person must have their passports otherwise security will not let them in.

I have stayed there many times before but this time they insisted on a $10 a night cash surcharge when none was mentioned in the Hotel.com reservation. This is so wrong. I think is very deceitful. I am trying to see if it is against the law.

I have a walking stick and asked them to think about that when allocating my room. I was given 8th floor and room was farthest away from lift and toilets -!they just didn’t care and the $30 they ask for on arrival is not mentioned when booking the break.

Poor communication. My flight was delayed until the next day. Despite many attempts to let them know and request to hold the reservation, it took them more than 24 hours to get back to me. I tried phone (many times), Hotel.com messaging and Hotel.com help desk (where they finally replied after > 24 hours). I don't need this kind of stress on top of the missed flight.

they charge an 10$ per night YMCA membrr fee no matter you are already a member or no at the check-in time. But I was able to get refund of this charge. It should be a condition of such charge at the check-in time. Thsis would cause less hassle for the guests who are the members.

It was like a scary jail. My floor smelled like butt. The service was okay, the cleaning lady was kind and check in was smooth, check out and luggage storage was rude and weird.

Amazing location, kind staff, and good basic accomodations. I had single room with the necessary amenities incl. a small fridge which was nice. The bed was on wheels and would move around during the night which was annoying. Easy access to Central Park and Columbus Circle was great and overall it was a good experience.

Great location- walkable to all attractions and close to subway - very basic but clean and quiet and felt safe abd secure - would highly recommend for New York on s budget

Vary central location

The property is a half block away from Central Park and a few blocks away from the subway. Lots to do in the area and plenty of shopping choices

After walking 1 minute, you will access to Central Park.

Safe and convenient property. Near Central Park and public transportation. Walkable to Times Square and restaurants. Decent single rooms for short visits. Nice and hospitable staff.

I loved how it was near everything and right across from Central Park!!

Excellent location. Clean. Friendly staff. Pool looks inviting. Some loud ppl at night. Midwest prices in a clean comfortable facility in the middle of Manhattan- awesome.

You definitely get what you pay for here as far as facilities go but would I stay here again? Absolutely. What it lacks in amenities it makes up for in LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. The staff was all great, and they offer luggage storage services on site, which was super helpful. One note: if you are a larger woman the showers might be pretty uncomfy as they are quite small (at least on floor 9). If you plan to shower, make sure you bring shower shoes and a robe.

Staff were ok, just inconsistent w their expectations when guests are entering and exiting the building. Also, disappointed there wasn’t any microwaves located near the hostess desk.

The West Side YMCA is a gem located a couple of blocks from Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle, and Central Park, within walking to Hudson River Park and ~ a mile from Natural History. The staff are very helpful, cheerful, and friendly. One needs to think of it as urban camping or hosteling -- it's somewhat like going off to camp (we had a cot-like bunk bed, "deluxe twin" on the 12th floor). The shared, individual (keycard) down the hall bathroom/shower facilities do create queues in the mornings. Do bring your own bathroom footwear, USB chargers, HDMI cable (for the TV), and maybe even a good towel and/or pillow (if these matter to you). Bathrooms were clean, albeit often wet from the showers. Lots of dining nearby on 8th avenue, and there is a Whole Foods at Columbus Circle. Felt very safe, and of course, the upper West side location cannot be beat. There is a bag check ($4/bag/day) and lots of bike rentals nearby. We would ourselves go again because we are on a budget, but it isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Barebones accommodations with great transportation, choices to eat after 11pm are dismal

The room was very, very basic, as you would expect for this price. The shared bathroom was very clean and the bed comfortable. The location is amazing! If you want a place to sleep and shower at an affordable rate, and don't mind no frills, this is it. The staff are pleasant enough, but they're not going to gush over you as they would in a posh place. It would be nice if there was somewhere in the place to get a cup of hot water for some instant tea or coffee, but there are lots of cafes not far. In summary, super basic, but pleasant and cheap (for Manhattan)

There was a suprise fee of $10 a night for membership of the Y, which caught us unawares. Also the female bathroom door did not shut properly without a big effort. Other than that, our room was basic but clean, the bathrooms were always clean and someone cleaning almost every time I went in. The security is tight as to who can enter so we felt safe. And it is so convenient for Midtown Manhattan, walkable for so many places and some gorgeous places nearby for breakfast. Thank you, Midtown Y!
