Quaint and perfect for my date night. It's like a South Beach Miami hotel on the Island. Food and drink all around it. We stayed in the smaller room and chose the larger one. Easy parking, bikes to use... fresh ground expresso, cappuccino , coffee machine in lobby. Fresh tacos across the road. I would recommend this hotel and stay again.

We loved this place! Beautiful decor, great pool and walkable to st Augustine. Excellent value for money and customer service too.

Nice, clean motel, def loud with the street/car noise they provide ear plugs. Pool was cute and clean. The app to open the door did not work and they were prepared for it so don’t waste too much time trying it and call the “front desk” ( on the app) they will give u a code for a card key- no one in premises just online people- but very nice place.

This hotel is adorable - I was a little nervous it would be loud or not as cute as it is online but it exceeded my expectations in every way. If St. Augustine isn't enough of a draw, this hotel might be enough to bring me back again. Loved it and wish I had had more time to spend at the pool just lounging.

The room was very clean and comfortable. You can notice that the rooms were renovated recently in the modern "flamingo" :) style. One thing that not enough light in the room. The two bedside lamps don't light the room enough to read. The self-check-in service may be little bit too complicated for people not familiar with technology. But once you are in then keyless entry system works fine. It requires some patience. The lobby area clean and nice with VERY GOOD coffee.

This motel is conveniently located along a busy strip with all that's needed for a fun stay at the beach or in St. Augustine. The decor and vibe are a fun retro beachy feel from the 70s. The room was quite small, but well equipped and neat. Our bathroom shower stall was not cleaned well, nor was the floor, however. Remnants of the past guests were found in both areas. The pool area is clean, cute and comfortable. We requested a room not adjacent to the busy commercial strip, and were granted one, which I greatly appreciate. The only noise level were the guests coming and going from their parking spots directly outside the room door, but that is to be expected in a motel. All in all, it was a cute and tidy spot that we would visit again while hoping that the cleaning is more thorough.

This was my second stay here in 6 months and I love it here!! It is so clean, beds are comfortable, amenities are great and location is perfect. There is no front desk staff, but there is someone who texts you throughout your stay to make sure you don't need anything, and this works perfectly. Highly recommend The Local

The communication process was basically non-existent. My first confirmation notice said I had to download an app, Virdee, to receive checkin information. I did and my phone number was not in the system. I called the number that was for the local property but that number did not work. I called the corporate number and the guy told me they were updating their system and not using Virdee anymore. This was literally the next day! I then receive another email reminding me to put the app on my phone in order to check in. Emails to the company were either not answered or not answered in a timely manner. At 3:10p.m. I received a message saying my room was almost ready and that I would receive checkin instructions at 3pm. We arrived at the hotel with no checkin info and there was a sign on the door with 4 different numbers to text, so I did. I heard nothing back so I called one of the numbers. A nice girl told me where the lockers were to enter a code to receive our keys. The locker was unlocked already! The room was not as cute as pictured and described. I think the owners said they tried to keep as much mid-century details as possible. Hardly. The bathroom (while clean & newish) had very modern tile & backsplash that looked nothing like mid-century. There was an air filter/purifier in the room and when we checked it was absolutely clogged with dust! The drawers all smelled like mildew because the inexpensive furniture (laminate? presswood?) had water damage inside.

I stayed 3 nights. I never had warm water for a shower. No manager on site. Phone number always 'busy'. First text said "they were aware" of the problem. No fixing. No resolution. No compensation. I waited 6 days before writing this review hoping they would make things right. Nope. Digital hotels w/ no humans to interface with makes it easier for owners to ignore the customer. Lesson learned.

We went in to our rooms and they were slippery. I had to take off my shoes because it was dangerous. I contacted the “hotel staff” (there’s no staff and communication done thru text) and they refunded my payment as I decided not to stay.

Honest review: Pros: Safe location, great coffee, no bugs Cons: black mold in the room, HEAVY mold scent (I know it’s humid) contactless check-in which could lead to problems and have to download and use an app, dirty walls- if the areas easy to see are dirty, what does that say about the hard to see areas? Overall- decent, love supporting local however this isn’t really local if there are no staff on the property. Wouldn’t stay again.

The hotel was as expected! The floors were sticky and there was an air purifier in the room but the filter light was on and the filter was dirty. There was a dog in the room next doo that we heard barking loudly until we called and then it was resolved! The traffic noise didn’t bother me, the AC unit is a bit noisy but I love the noise to fall asleep to. The customer service team was very quick and helpful when I called once about the dog (they didn’t have any rooms to move us to but they did reach out to the room to ask them to resolve this), and I also called again because our mobile room key stopped working. We waited outside for 10-15 mins and the housekeeper brought us 2 physical keys that worked the rest of the stay. The beds are definitely not super comfortable and the pillows were very thin. Not bad for 1-2 nights if you’re looking on the more affordable side!

This hotel had the shortest mattresses we had ever slept in and the noisiest, they must be ancient. Tons of noise from the road and tons of light made it very difficult to sleep.

Small rooms but clean and quiet. Would defiently stay again. Tgey have bikes on-site so you can ride downtown easily.

It was a nice room. The only issues we had was the water in our shower was not hot or even warm. The water in the sink was hot. Plus the lights outside could come through into the room with the blinds and it would have been better if we could block that out. We did not try to go to the lobby or pool area due to time and weather

The bed was a little hard, but the price & location were excellent!

The place was overall cute and convenient. We had some struggles getting connected through the app and messaged the company. They were quick with a response. The only downfall was that the walls are super thin. We were able to hear our neighbors conversation easily and them opening and closing the door. It was good for a one night stay.

Super cute place that was clean and safe. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was how thin the walls are & beds are a little too firm. Whoever was above us woke us up at 3:30am one night and 5am the next and you could hear the shower running next door clear as day but it was VERY clean and in a good location.

Canceled our stay without notifying us. We got there and apparently they have no staff. Just a txt message saying they canceled our stay.

No major issues. Check in communication was lacking. Would stay again.

Had a great experience at The Local - came to town for a friends birthday in the area and found this location to be super convenient to everything. Check in was easy and the team was quick to respond/resolve issues. I would definitely go back again!

The property was fantastic! You check in through an app and it gives you your room and key through your phone. There is someone available to give you a physical key but we never needed one. The room was clean and super conveniently located. We ran out of toilet paper one time and all you have to do is text, and they will bring whatever you need right over! Fantastic for a girls trip!

The hotel is an older establishment rehabbed. It was comfortable and I would stay again except for the lack of a lobby with check in and services. The hotel tells you to register with Virdee which is an app that is going to supply you a combination to a lockbox with your keys inside. The problem is with 5 couples, 3 couldn’t get the app to work. A call was made to some outside person who gave you instructions and took your credit card info over the phone. There is no one on site except a cleaning gal in the early morning if you have an issue. The rooms are comfortable, the pool is clean but the hassle is not worth it for them trying to save a buck or two.

Knew this was not the Ritz but they went overboard with technology check in that was a HUGE pain for all 5 couples checking in. Process was quite challenging and had to call multiple times even though they tried their best not to have human contact. We all got to Motel @ 3 for check in and ALL had issues getting into our rooms. Finally got our digital key on our cell and then given code to get our hard physical keys with a rep on the phone. Physical keys were a joke and never worked. Had to constantly pass phone to wife to access room if we went anywhere or wait for one another. It's not like we are tech challenged as 6 of 10 are engineers and all 10 tech savvy. Don't expect to take a warm/hot shower as water was never warm and forget hot. I realize they are cutting cost by not having a front desk but don't want to experience this lack of service at the price we paid for another motel..... This was an old fashion MOTEL from the 50's at best and not a newer Hotel but was renovated within last 5-10 years. Not somewhere I would want to stay again.

We spent an hour (roughly 5-6 pm) trying to unlock the door to our room with phone access. There were no employees onsite. Unsuccessful after many attempts working with the phone rep. We understood that a person would be arriving onsite to help us. This never happened. Total malfunction of their automated system. We canceled the reservation and received a full refund. We were lucky to find another hotel so late in the evening. What a total disaster this was! Never again.

The app mobile key only granted me access to the lobby, NOT my room! With no human staff on premises, and multiple phone calls unanswered.. I had to scramble to find alternative lodging, losing hours of my priceless time and sleep! If you like to gamble and put your trust in amateur technology.. You may be sleeping elsewhere, or possibly in your car... But at least those doors open!

Although there is no reception or concierge desk, we felt completely comfortable and that we had everything we needed. We also received at text day of check-in from an employee asking us to reach out if we did need anything. There’s no key it’s all digital which can be quite confusing at first but once we got the hang of it, it was easy. The only negative I have about this place is that it’s a little bit of a walk (1-1.5 miles ish) to the downtown area and the walls are VERY thin. We could hear full on conversations in the next room. Otherwise though we enjoyed our stay immensely and recommend. Also, just down the street is a great restaurant/cocktail bar called Odd Birds. Go!

We stayed in the room that was pool side. Loved that it felt private with only having one other room next to us. The decor is fun, loved the selection of coffees in the lobby and everything was very clean and well maintained.

Our stay over Valentine's Day weekend '25 was absolutely fantastic! The Local really knows how to provide a cozy and comfortable experience for this time of year. We had a single queen room at the front of the building, and we were thrilled with the updated bathroom and the mini kitchen area, complete with a fridge and microwave. One small suggestion for The Local would be to add a sitting chair in the rooms. It would have been perfect for reading or relaxing while using my laptop. I woke up early one morning and didn’t want to disturb my spouse and baby, so I ended up sitting on the floor to get some work done! It wasn’t a huge issue, just a nice-to-have. The location is absolutely ideal—just far enough from the hustle and bustle of downtown St. Augustine, but still close enough to enjoy all the amazing restaurants and sights. A couple of our favorites were Osprey Tacos (great for dinner and a brew, just a short walk away) and the delicious breakfast burrito at Mojo Tacos right across the street. Overall, we had an amazing time and can’t wait to return next year! We'll definitely be upgrading to a bigger room as we expand our family!
