Power outage, no back up generator so check in was not done till much later. However, the staff did take us to our room and let us in and if we left we had no key to enter back due to being electronic but was informed to go to office and someone would let us back in. Loved the duo lock system traditional deadbolt and the top bar = more secure. Staff friendly and they had a nice breakfast set up with making your own waffles station. Will use again.

I feel like the breakfast options can be better. Property was nice and quiet. The parking spots are definitely way too narrow.

I made two mistakes when I booked this facility for a 5 night stay: 1. I assumed that a property listed by Expedia met a certain minimum level of competence. 2. I assumed that a property with the name "Clarion" associated with it met a minimum level of excellence. I was wrong on both counts. This is one of worst places my wife and I have ever stayed. And, if I taught a class on "Hospitality", I'd have the class observe the woman who worked the front desk so they could see "how not to do it". The property was undergoing badly need renovation while we were there, which meant our room was very, very noisy with the sounds or construction. The inconvenience associated with this construction-renovation was not noted by either Expedia or Clarion. Because of all this, you would think Clarion would have made a discount coupon available at checkout. Not to be. When dealing with Expedia and Clarion, I've learned "buyer beware".

The front-desk people are nice. Parking is convenient. The bathroom in our room had been remodeled and the shower was nice. They need to invest in new beds. We both tossed and turned because the mattress wasn't comfortable and we both kept rolling toward the center. Also, more than one pillow each would be helpful. There is a decorative wooden piece at the top of the headboard that makes it impossible to sit up in bed to read or watch TV comfortably. Two pillows might allow someone to pad that area enough to sit up. Botton line: Please get new beds!

We came to the area for a weekend long event so only came to sleep. The room was comfortable and the staff was friendly. We left before breakfast was available. There was always a parking spot available. It would have been nice to soak in a jacuzzi after a long day but otherwise, everything was good!

Comfortable location. Weekend rates are beyond astronomical for the services you receive. The Internet quit working and took over four hours to return service. The front desk said it was due to a local power outage which does not sound remotely believable. **Check your hotel bill.** I was overcharged by $97.50 for "Miscellaneous" and neither the hotel nor Choice Hotels Corporate are able to give a reason.

The waffle maker was a hit with the kids! We loved the staff, so helpful and kind. The rooms were just there for us to sleep, so the size worked well for a family of 5, we even added a cot for a minimal fee and it worked out for us. It is quaint area and parking was right in front of the door. We loved that it was close to everything! We were able to do a lot in 2 days! We had a great time and planning on returning soon!

The property is being renovated so lots of remodeling equipment and product laying around the property. Our room was looking very nice from the renovations. Staff met us for a late check in and was very kind to tell us about food options around at that late hour. Breakfast was convenient in the early morning. Location was perfect! Oh, I loved the separate kitchen area. I was able to get up early before my family and do some work on my laptop and not disturb the family sleeping.

Construction during stay was a bit uncomfortable but the room was very clean and the area was great. Staff was nice, other construction, area is very nice.

When turning on hot water for the shower (as you do) the drain in the shower STANK. It smelled like garbage on a hot day. The drain is in dire need of cleaning please do remedy that- when I shower I want to relax not literally gag from the stench. My second issue is that the white bread put out for the breakfast literally had mold on it. How do you manage to put out and serve moldy bread? Otherwise, bedding and towels were clean. Bed was comfy. Checking in and out was easy. The location is convenient for visiting nearby beaches, Monterey, and Carmel. Easy walk to the beach from the hotel.

Motel has been updated recently, clean safe quiet and near beach and restaurants.

Room was dirty,carpets stained, room had a damp chem smell all night. Bed was terrible. We reserved 2 nites but left after one night. Took hours running heater to bring room temp up to 65 degrees.

Checked in room & found a used coffee cup in the microwave, presumably from the last person who stayed in this room. Front desk lady & lady cleaning went back & forth on whether she cleaned or not, ultimately the lady cleaning sprayed Lysol in the microwave & wiped it down. Pretty sure that’s not good when heating up food. When we were ready to leave we realized our door wouldn’t lock on the outside. We told front desk lady & she said she would have to call someone to fix it but told us not to worry, we could leave as “no one would touch our things”. We told her we were not doing that as our things were in the room & we weren’t going to chance someone being able to access our things. We were told the person who would fix the door would be there in 15. While we waited my bf asked if we could switch rooms to one that locks, but we were told that there were no rooms available. During this time I was reaching out to hotels.com to see what my options were for canceling & was told that I could cancel but I would need to speak to the hotel regarding a refund - surprise, was told no. While speaking to the Rep we were looking at other places to stay we noticed that the hotel DID STILL have a room available.. after a few minutes (still waiting for the guy the to come and fix the lock) the front desk lady came back & said she now had a room available … a “king” sized bed. While we were putting our things away we heard the lady cleaning argue that she didn’t need to clean the sheets..

From the outside, the property looks fairly nice. Once inside, we had an ant problem, towels were not quite clean, continental breakfast left much to be desired and overall attitude of staff was not so friendly. We actually opted to stay another night only bc we wanted to get over to the aquarium and when I inquired about room availability- the room shot up in price an additional $40 bringing it to $180!!! We checked out and grabbed a cute cottage just down the street for less the price and very nice accommodations

This is a very average inn. The queen size bed felt like a double and the carpets smelled dirty

Clean, comfortable, furniture and fixtures all in excellent condition, and economical too.

We stayed here two nights on a family road trip with 2 adults and 2 teens. The space is smallish but worked for our needs. We appreciated the location — easy to everywhere we wanted to visit. The beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom with nice a clean. The room lighting was extremely bright so be aware of that if you’re sensitive to that sort of thing. Overall we had a great stay!

Located next to the monarch reserve and within walking distance of the Pacific Grove lighthouse. Location is fantastic. Hotel is middle of the road in spite of the Clarion association. Room is clean but seriously needs a design update and attention to a variety of details, including replacing noisy refrigerator, inefficient air conditioning/heating system, old rcarpet, and missing door frame.

Extremely load, walls are paper thin

The walls are quite thing. The couple next door was having a conversation at about 1:30uam, and we could hear them pretty clearly. Also, although the room itself and the side furniture has been updated, the bed clearly had not been updated. I sat down ant the thing squeeked like crazy. Every little move created a squeeking sound that woke me up multiple times throughout the night. The mattress was very lumpy, too. So, a restrful night ws not to be had. Get new beds and new mattresses, and this place would be 5-stars all around.

Walls too thin heard every door key card slide, every phone alert from the room next door all night long.

I paid a ridiculous amount to stay at this old motor inn for one night. It would be fine if you can get this room for $100-150 per night and are not planning on spending any time on the property or in the room and need somewhere to sleep and shower. Only two small pillows on a queen size bed when you’re paying too much money per night that’s pretty cheap! My son had to sleep on the pullout sofa. I don’t think there is a pullout sofa that’s comfortable, but the queen bed was not comfortable either. Breakfast was waffles cold cereal, English muffins very basic and not really a good area. It’s very cramped. They set it up in the lobby and there’s only three tiny tables available to sit at. I love Pacific Grove the area around the motor Inn is nice. It just was so overpriced for what it was but that’s a Saturday night stay in July I guess at the beach.

This place is cheap and very clean. If that's all you need then that's there for you. The mattress is a cheap coil mattress on an old box spring. The box spring sits on 2x4s that sit on a wooden box. That squeaked at every contact. On top of that, the 2x4s stick out past the box spring making an ideal spot to whack your shins. The door needs weather stripping. The bottom has a gap big enough that I can reach my fingers under the door. I used a sweatshirt at night to block the breeze. Lesson learned after the first night of the wall heater not being sufficient. There is a really old microwave and mini fridge. They function. The fridge makes intermittent clunking noises that woke us up multiple times a night even with a white noise app trying to blend in the noise from the wall heater and fridge. We left early and stayed elsewhere our final night so that we could sleep before heading home. from a long weekend.

Basic motel on the PG motel strip. Nondescript motel. Breakfast started after I had to leave. Bathroom door can’t open or close if someone on the toilet. Tile on shower floor looks dirty but probably wasn’t, just a bad color to use.

Arrived early evening, property was small and well lit, staff were on site in the office and room was clean, bed was comfortable, had a small kitchen which did what it was supposed to do!! So if you\'re just looking for a place to sleep, then this will do. However if you are have issue with noisy upstairs guests make sure to get an upstairs room, aside from the walls being slightly "thinner" than we would have hoped. We had a family of "baby elephants" staying above us so this did not make sense from management side putting them upstairs. This family also appeared to have the room next door because the children were constantly slamming doors, banging on same doors then running and jumping from 7:20 Sunday morning. We too have kids and they enjoy vacation as well, so we never complained. In any event the noise was what we\'d consider "happy" noise, laughing and such so we move on.... Toilets flush like a jet engine so don\'t panic when you hear that.

Beds we hard, and the lady at the front desk seemed annoyed that we were checking in. I stayed there 2 times and got the same feeling from her. Will not stay there again.

Do not recommend! The manager is extremely rude and treats guests like invasors. Worst experience in a hotel ever. Even when you complaint about the poor treatment they tell you they do not care! Seriously a ver sad experience in our last day at Monterey. A nightmare I do not want to repeat, very very sad.

Staff was friendly. Check in lady was a sweet heart let me check in late. The food provided was filling. Room was very clean and homey. Loved the tall shower. Outside was very clean and beautiful. Deer almost touchable outside in the morning.

Our stay at this site was wonderful! From check-in, to stay, to Continental Breakfast, to check-out. We didn't realize that it was right across the street from the Monarch Butterfly sanctuary.

We loved this sweet, quaint inn. The owners were absolutely lovely and sweet. We were very comfortable and LOVED the big shower. The bed was a perfect firmness and we slept great. The boxes of flowers on the porch were so pretty! The breakfast was great to grab as we headed out. Close to downtown but far enough to be quiet and peaceful! Thank you!

We went to stay in this hotel for two nights. The breakfast room is a very tiny it has only two tables on the side of the check in room.The bathroom is okay because everything's working，But again it's very tiny.

Everything was fine except the breakfast coffee. We are not coffee snobs, but it was awful.

Quite a charming, well kept 2-story motel with window boxes planted with geraniums. Comfortable room and bed. Bathroom was nicely upgraded, but the floor of the shower could use some cove molding. Breakfast was minimal at best; no bagels, no bananas, not even juice of any kind. If not for the breakfast I would have given this place 5-stars.
