Stayed 3 nights

We had a comfortable 3-night stay at the Maritim Hotel. The hotel is in a convenient location close to the sea and the forest, which is perfect for anyone interested in early morning walks and swimming. We traveled with our 4-year-old son, and the family room was spacious enough for us, complete with a balcony. However, it would have been better if the balcony and its furniture were cleaner. The only downside was the lack of a fitness room, which we felt should be easy to add given how spacious the hotel is.

Maritim Hotel Bellevue Kiel sits right on the water, and from the balcony you get a front-row seat to ferries and sailboats drifting across the fjord — a view that’s worth the stay on its own. But what really won me over was the interior. The seventies maritime aesthetic isn’t something you stumble across much anymore, and that’s exactly what made it so wonderfully welcome — dark wood veneer, brass details, patterned carpets, striped upholstery. It felt like stepping onto a beautifully preserved ocean liner from another era. Rather than feeling dated, it read as genuinely characterful: warm, nostalgic, and refreshingly exotic compared to the sea of identical minimalist hotels everywhere else. If you’re after something with real personality instead of another beige, glass-and-concrete box, this is it. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
