Fantastic location. This is a no frills, old hotel but clean throughout. The rooftop lounge area is nice, with a small pool and restaurant. I went solo and felt safe there. The beds are very old and not very comfy... but not the worst bed I've slept in there. I brought my own blanket after reading some reviews and I'm glad I did. The only real negative for me was the door lock as there was only a knob lock. This really needs to be addressed by the hotel, just as simple as putting a chain back on! I put a chair at the door under the knob to remedy for myself. I'd stay again.

The hotel was clean and our room was comfortable. The rooftop pool area and the restaurant were very nice! Excellent happy hour! The only downside was the lack of wifi. Only available in the lobby and not always good even there.

Have stayed at Encino 4 times. Love it. Roof top pool. Roof top restaurant. Easy walk to Malecon and the Pier and the beaches. Staff is very helpful and curtious. Quaint Mexican feel with the beautiful court yard. Simple rooms nothing fancy but beds comfy and I always ask for balcony with river view. Just love staying here.

Amazing location and great hotel for the price. Restaurant on the terrace is a great place to wind down with cocktails and a sunset. The pool is amazing as well. Overall it's a terrific option. All of the best places to hangout are within walking distance

It is a fabulous location for access to the Malecon/ocean, restaurants and other attractions, but it is definitely noisy! Street noise, but also from the restaurant bar on the 4th floor (which, however, was very convenient for a quick meal/cervesa). Our major frustration was that we were informed less than a week prior to our arrival that the pool was down for construction without providing any kind of alternative. So that was a super-bummer for us. Our room was clean and rustic and idiosyncratic in a way that you might expect from a 3-star Mexican hotel!

Great location. Acceptable rooms for the price. Pool on roof is nice, as is the restaurant. Wifi was not good - everyone is sitting in the lobby trying to connect; connection from rooms virtually nothing. Staff are friendly. Lots of restaurants nearby and 2 minute walk to the Malecon/ocean.

I am far from picky, and I generally love the smaller Mexico boutique hotels even with all their cracked tiles and imperfections, like real Mexico. However, my room was disgusting. Toilet base leaked and had a lovely sewage odor. The closet had such a foul odor, no way I’d put anything in it, and above it on the trim had illegal drugs left on it. The floor was dirtier than if I just walked outside barefoot. Sink spout was too short water ran over the counter on to the floor. Paper thin doors no deadbolt. No blanket and only two super flat pillows on the bed, had to leave the AC on to alleviate the moisture and funk in the room, so we froze all night. So yeah, I’m requesting a refund through Expedia and I expect Expedia to honor their guarantee, regardless if the hotel refunds or not. Fair warning to anyone looking to book here. If you’re the hotel and reading this, you should be ashamed of your performance. Do better!! Don’t respond to this with standard, we strive to do better BLA, BLA, BLA. I know you won’t! Just give me my refund and I won’t repost this on all the travel forums!

This is an older property in decent shape. Our room was basic with some wear, but clean. Small hole in one sheet and drapery. The hotel is well situated on the river. Our room was quiet. They have s rooftop restaurant that was popular.

I was extremely disappointed with this hotel room. The room had no lamps at all, several broken tiles, visible mold, and leaky faucets, and shower doors. The room felt demolished then patched back together. Basic amenities were missing — there was no iron and no in-room safe, which are standard expectations. Oh and only a thin bedsheet to sleep in. The worst part was the cleanliness. Birds were gathering outside the room, and there was bird droppings everywhere — on the floor, door, walls, furniture, and even the A/C unit. This made the room feel extremely unsanitary and neglected. Overall, the lack of maintenance, cleanliness issues, and missing basic amenities made this an uncomfortable stay. I would not recommend this property unless major improvements are made

for an inexpensive hotel, it was fine. Provided drinking water and the pool and patio upstairs was nice. This was our second stay. Love the area and felt safe. Wifi in the lobby. Rooms were clean.

I arrived a little early. They said the room wasnt ready. Fine, so i waited. Didnt seem like there was many people so i couldnt understand the delay. Oh well! My room was in a good location except for the birds, no lamps, and non functioning tv remote..For one week there were 30 to 50 swallows outside my room, making noise and defecating onthe floor outside my door. I left notes in spanish, told the front desk 4 times. Nothing was done the whole time I was there. I have been to this hotel 8 times and this time was charged a rate 500 dollars higher because of New Years. Equivalent to the Chelsea in downtown Toronto. About the same for a niight..for a 3 star. I am a relaxed person for the most part, and have had an easy going attitude in the past. Sadly, and i really feel sad, cause I appreciate the mexican experience and the way the hotel looks. I never had a problem with cleanliness in the past. I did bring it to thier. Attentio. I will never go back and never reccomend it again. All they had to do was clean up the bird feces once or twice..Yuck!

The property is very old, has a definite smell. I ended up with a weird rash all over my neck so im thinking bed bugs on the pillow, beds are hard as a rock. Very loud. The bathroom has been renovated so that was nice. They're was coffee in the foyer until 930 am was suppose to be there until 11 so lucky we got some. Nice pool and outdoor area

Second stay in 2024. First stay was given 2 twin beds… this trip reserved one double. Was given two twins again. The hotel says they have WIFI… it just isn’t true! If you sit in the lobby you can get it. Anywhere else on property, good luck! My TV didn’t work more than 3 minutes before “Lost Signal” appears. The hotel is very basic and I knew it… but basic services that are listed need to really be provided.

Really well located, nice relaxing courtyard, plus it has a rooftop bar/pool! My room was loud, all night long. I was ever greatful for my tiredness and earplugs. The bed was large but hard as a rock, the bathrooms were not something I wanted to be in for long. I was happy to stay there for 1 night, even happier to leave the next day. If you don't mind noise and just want somewhere to lay your head at night, then this place if for you. If you are more about comfort, pass on this one.

We stayed here for convenience to explore the Malecon/Romantica Zone. For that it was an excellent location! As far as comfort, not really my 3rd choice…wifi does not work well at all, unless you’d like to sit in the lobby as many folks were doing! Did not work in our room, nor on the pool deck. Thankfully it was only for 2 short nights and we were able to let our family know of our plans! This building has sooo much potential, it really is a beautiful building. The staff were friendly, extra blanet upon request. We did not eat at the rooftop restaurant, nor did we dip in the pool as the loungers were not that clean, and sketchy wifi to boot to hang out in the sun. We chose to go back out instead. Could be just fine for some folks, but sadly, I will find somewhere else next time!

Location was great, between El Centro and Zona Romantica; but the hotel was SO noisy. Traffic, voices from the street and a bar/restaurant on the floor above mine (I was in 304). Staff were not courteous, I had to convince them to give me a pool towel; they wanted me to come back down when I was ready to swim. I was given 104 on the second floor corner facing the busy street and bridge over the River Quale. Even with the A/C on, it did not drown out the horrendous noise from the street. It was faulty calm during the times of 2am until 5am. The room is spacious with a king bed and two balconies. Had it not been for the noise, the room would be a perfect 10. I asked at checkout if there were other rooms that would be more comfortable and quiet and away from the street traffic. I was told that interior courtyard rooms would be much quieter. I plan to stay at the Encino again for the location and convenience. A smaller bed and a quiet room will be what I will select. Be aware of the extreme road noise if you choose a larger room facing the street or river!

The hotel is in a great location, close to transportation and lots to see in walking distance. The staff was excellent, very helpful and friendly. The wifi is not great, and pretty much non existant in the rooms, but good in common areas. Kept very clean.

I had a very negative experience with the front desk. I lost my passport the day that I got there. A girl the checked me in found it. fell off the taxi. She didn’t let me know that she found it until the next day. I was very stressed out. When to the American consulate and fix everything. When I came back the girl gave the passport and told me that she found it. But she was to busy to take it back to my room. The next thing was that my room smell like dirty water I reported to the front desk and I t took 2 days to do something about it.

The rooms are old and dated , the door leading to our tiny balcony is rotted and had large gaps , allowing the outside noise in. The toilet paper holder did not have a roller The elevator was out of order, They require a room deposit when you check in, I used my credit card , but they didn’t want to credit the card back , they wanted to return it in pesos which is a different exchange rate. Very unfriendly staff except our cleaning lady. Great location, but hotel needs major upgrades.

Hotel Encino is in a good location if the traveler wants to be in the “Centro” and near the shops and restaurants on the “Malecon”. It can be noisy day and night (street noise, loud music, etc.) because of its proximity to av. Vallarta. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the linens clean. The bathroom needed serious renovations. The pool area is a great asset, but was occasionally crowded. I was only able to get WiFi in the lobby and another guest said the same. The reception and housekeeping personnel were friendly and helpful.

Fantastic location. This is a no frills, old hotel but clean throughout. The rooftop lounge area is nice, with a small pool and restaurant. I went solo and felt safe there. The beds are very old and not very comfy... but not the worst bed I've slept in there. I brought my own blanket after reading some reviews and I'm glad I did. The only real negative for me was the door lock as there was only a knob lock. This really needs to be addressed by the hotel, just as simple as putting a chain back on! I put a chair at the door under the knob to remedy for myself. I'd stay again.

I had a great stay at Hotel Encino. I actually stayed here about four years ago and was happy to return. The only thing I was disappointed to see was that the café downstairs is no longer there, as I remembered enjoying it during my previous visit. The location is one of the hotel's biggest strengths. Everything is within walking distance, making it easy to explore the area, grab food, and enjoy Puerto Vallarta without constantly needing transportation. I felt safe walking around, even in the evenings. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, and the hotel felt comfortable and convenient. We specifically booked Hotel Encino because of its location, and it did not disappoint. Overall, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location with friendly staff, I would definitely recommend Hotel Encino and would stay here again.
I had a great stay at Hotel Encino. I actually stayed here about four years ago and was happy to return. The only thing I was disappointed to see was that the café downstairs is no longer there, as I remembered enjoying it during my previous visit. The location is one of the hotel's biggest strengths. Everything is within walking distance, making it easy to explore the area, grab food, and enjoy Puerto Vallarta without constantly needing transportation. I felt safe walking around, even in the evenings. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay, and the hotel felt comfortable and convenient. We specifically booked Hotel Encino because of its location, and it did not disappoint. Overall, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable hotel in a great location with friendly staff, I would definitely recommend Hotel Encino and would stay here again.
