De Herbert Amsterdam - Formerly France Hotel

I arrived at around 10:50 at the hotel and to my surprise, my room was already ready. This was great news. It was however the only good news. The rooms are extremely worn down. The first thing I noticed was a brown spot on the plastic floor which seems to be caused by the AC in the ceiling dripping onto the floor during summers. The next thing I was was the bathroom. Planning wise it was terrible. Sitting down at the toilet prompted the legs not to fit in between the chair and the condo and sink right in front of it. The walls had clear signs of pink and black mold build-up. The corners of the shower was filled with black mold. I went to take a shower and to my surprise it started to overflow. The drain would not take the water.Water starting pouring out on the bathroom floor. In panic I lifted the drain container and found a horrid surprise. It was FILLED with hair and dirt and junk from previous guests. I quickly put it in the toilet to avert a disaster in the room. IEW. During checkout I showed the staff the photo of all the gunk I threw down the toilet from the drain, their comment was that since I did not report it directly and let them fix it I was apparently satisfied with my accommodation. They would escalate to their manager as I told him I had no choice but to clean it myself when it happened. Let's see. This is a cheap and dirty hotel. If you can accept it it's great for the location. But a 3 star hotel? No way. I've seen hostels in better condition.

The Hotel France is in a convenient location, very walkable and close to the train station. Staff are very nice. Here goes my first bad review ever….for quite a high price, it is more average (at best) hostel in vibes than luxury hotel. It is very old, but there is no excuse for the very dirty carpeting in the entry way and mouldy shower curtain and shower as well as the sporadic room service. The laminate flooring in the room was also very worn and lifting up. The beds were not uncomfortable and clean, however. As Amsterdam is very expensive, I would pay more for a nicer hotel next time, or better yet spend much less at a beautiful airport hotel and take the train in daily if that is not too inconvenient.

Great location in the heart of the oldest districts. Easy acess/walkable from train station and close to Viking's port. Clean, well appointed room. We found a jazz bar around the corner after dinner in the neighborhood.

2 nights here the rooms were clean, and space was sufficient. Bathroom was ok, free wifi. Staff friendly enough.

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location, otherwise its a run down shack. Headboard was nasty and full of stains. A sweep with a UV light would surely induced some interesting results. Bring a hazmat suit if you’re staying here. Windows were not functioning correctly, had to use a pillow to make it stay open. Also no breakfast.

Shower was retrofitted into room and leaked onto floor. WiFi was hit or miss.

Hotel is very close to central station and that was the only advantage. Hotel building is very old and outdated. Rooms are kind of renovated but very very small.

The windowless was very stuffy and warm, the air conditioning did not work normally

I am currently staying in the France Hotel in Amsterdam and during check in we were told that the AC was broken. I am staying with two other adults in the small room and it is currently 2am and the three of us are unable to sleep due to how hot it is. The fact that the Hotel said it had AC and could room three adults is the reason why I chose this Hotel. Not being able to sleep on the airplane from JFK to AMS and now not being able to sleep tonight due to how hot it is in this small room makes me extremely unhappy. I am glad we are leaving in the morning.

The HVAC (air conditioner) didn’t work, we stayed 4 night without it. The safe locker didn’t work. The customer service should be improved.

Not a bad size & very well located.

Weak aircondition in 4th floor during intense heat at France hotell, made the last night air difficult to sleep. Otherwise come and friendly people.

La habitación es pequeña pero tiene lo que se necesita. No tenía ventanas. Te da la sensación de estar encerrado. Buena ducha y buen baño. Está muy bien ubicado.

テレビが付かなかった。多分ホテルはそのことを認識してると思うが放置してらようだ。別にテレビを見たいわけではなかったので自分には問題なかったけど。

Tout etait très bien. Seulement des petites fenêtres en haut des murs (sous-sols), mais chambre spacieuse. Service top et agréable

Nice, helpful employees. Perfect for our one night stay before our cruise. Easy to find, middle of everything and very close to the port and train station.

Muy buena ubicación y el personal muy amable

Værelset var lille og i generel dårlig stand, der trængte til maling over det hele . sengen var sten hård og manglede topmadras. Personalet var venligt og imødekommende

Es una propiedad que está ubicada a 10 mins a pie de la central… todo caminando, en personal atento y dispuesto. Lo recomiendo mucho

Wonderfully small and quaint little hotel within walking distance to everything. We had an enjoyable stay!

It is very well located, near Central Station, and in walking distance of the main attractions, the only negative point is that there is a bar next to it, so it is a little bit noisy.

Felt once we arrived the room waa over priced, I appreciate the location etc....TV channel options poors and more importantly no tea or coffee making facilities...
