Hides Hotel

Arrived in the evening after flying in. Parking is definitely a challenge with street parking only available. The lobby looks a little dodgy but the interior of the hotel was surprisingly freshly painted and clean

Good location. Good staff. Pool was green / out of service. No towels in room. Clean and comfortable

No parking for hotel,had to pay every hour for parking. Beds were great best night sleep thanks.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hides, I could walk to everything within 5-10 mins, including the bus station, wharf, esplanade and night markets. The rooms are very spacious, bed was comfortable, and Woolworths is across the road! My room's big window was frosted, so couldn't see out. Only one small part of the window could be opened, so if this is a problem for you, ask first. Also the lovely pool was "broken" as the staff put it, they need to fix it ASAP. There were a few tiny ants in the bathroom, but all in all, it is fantastic value for money in a very convenient location.

Staff very friendly and efficient. Its an old building but rooms have been updated. Lots of space but could do with a couple chairs in the room. Its the first hotel I have stayed at where there is a charge for luggage storage following check out. Its $6 for a locker.

Parking costs extra and is a little tricky but otherwise the hotel was in a great location, had a great balcony to enjoy, and the rooms were nice. If I had it to do over I would not have gotten a rental car and just walked - the location allows for that.

First time here, check in took a while as receptionist was on phone, would help if they let us know of the delay due to phone bookings etc. another lady checked me in ,which made the process even faster which I was happy about. The location is good, close to everything and transports, very convenient. The room was big but downfall was the aircon wasn't cold enough , the temp was already set and couldn't change it to make it abit colder due to the heat weather up here in the north tropics, luckily the fan was working it kinda made the stay abit breezy, curtains had to be closed all the time due to sunny through the window and then youl feel the heat come through it,. Everything was good , location, the room but it was just the aircon that wasn't cold enough to help ease the heat temperature, the receptions air-condition is way more colder than the rooms. * I've put the red tag to clean room whilst out, came back to find it not cleaned. I asked a worker about it and was told I needed to inform receptionist if I wanted it cleaned, so something to note down since I didn't know. * It's worth to book the hotel car park, if I knew I would of booked it for the whole of my stay, the road carparks was a nightmare, especially when your room is far away from the elevator , and carpark ticket has to be checked and paid every hour. I booked carpark on my last night and it was worth it. Overall hotel is good, just some little things that sometimes goes a missed.

Room was comfortable and in a great location to walk to the key locations in town and to the marina. Parking was a little cumbersome, but available. We parked the car and then just enjoyed walking around Cairns

The lift was scary. None of the keys worked very well. Had to wiggle and giggle keys to open doors. The paid parking was very tight. I was in room 106 on 1st floor. Could hear the lift all night plus everyone going up and down stairs. The view. Well there was none except a tin roof. The staff were nice and breakfast was good for the price.

This hotel was just what I needed after traveling abroad and staying in hostels. A private room to myself with a big bed, tv and nice shower. I was able to check in early which is lovely. It was stupid that they make you pay to store your luggage, because I just sat in the lobby with it to avoid that and cluttered up their front space. Close to restaurants and grocery store.

The rooms were very dirty and did not look like they had been cleaned. There was hair throughout the bathrooms and the floors had not been cleaned. I did not feel safe staying in the hotel as there were people coming and going at all hours of the night and day. I ended up leaving after only staying 1 night and stayed elsewhere. I do not recommend this property to anyone.

This would be the most disgustingingly dirty place we have ever stayed in. The positives; Housekeeping had done the best with what they were given. The shower had excellent pressure. The negatives; Curtains were stained and smelled putrid. windows were absolutely filthy with 2 bird poo covered air-conditioning units at the open window and drug paraphernalia and pooh on the ledge beneath the window made a dreadful smell. The pidgeons were perched there. The blanket supplied was disgusting, it was so old and stained. No exhaust for shower steam. Only one mug and one tiny cup. pillows were so flat and old, had to ask for extra. No sink plug ( why do places not supply them ?) We will NEVER stay here again and strongly recommend fellow travelers look elsewhere until the owner cleans the place up.

Very disappointed the room was filthy. Mould in tiles in shower rubbish left underneath the vanity Slim and hair particles around the bottom of toilet Some sort of grease inside of vanity Will not be recommending this place to any one the price I paid for 1 night was absolutely rediculas

This should be considered a 2 star motel or less. The staff at the front are not helpful. If you need reliable WiFi this is NOT the place to stay. The shower and shower curtain had mildew/mold. I saw a roach in my room and you can hear everyone out in the hallway. The hotel owners have done a poor job on renovating this motel. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. I couldn’t wait for my time to end at this hotel.

It is such a centrally located accommodation. Clean and well looked after. The staff are lovely and very efficient.

Lots of mould on the shower curtain, stained towels, stained bed cover, rock hard pillows and bed, thin walls, wifi didn't work.

Our room was very dirty upon arrival. Our bedsheets had multiple stains and dirt on them…. When we went to talk to the front desk they said they had no cleaning staff available until the next day and no vacant rooms so they just gave us new sheets to put on the bed.

4泊して清掃は入りませんでした。 口コミに3泊ごとに清掃と書いている方もいますが、2025/7に泊まってスタッフに聞いたら4泊でも清掃はないそうです。 タオル交換はフロントに行けば行ってもらえます。 また、18時から生演奏のあるレストランの爆音、深夜3時になっても終わらないナイトクラブが近隣にあるせいで本当にうるさいです。 夜中になっても道で騒ぐ若者、爆音を流す車も通ります。 私の部屋はナイトクラブとレストラン側にあったため、モロに音楽がずっと聞こえていました。これはどの部屋になるか分からないので運だと思います。 私は多少うるさくても寝れるタイプですが、ここはうるさすぎました。 ホテルは古く、窓が常に少し開いていてちゃんと閉められない構造なのも問題だと思います。 虫などはでなかったのでよかったです。 シャワーの温度調整はコツがいります。 お湯を全開に出して、水の蛇口はほんの少しだけ回すとちょうどよい温度でシャワーが浴びれます。シャワーは固定式なので使い勝手は悪いです。 しかし、立地はどこに行くのも最高に良い場所です。

The shower head was in a very bad condition. $50 spent at Bunnings to replace it would be a simple solution

For me the location was good. The room was spacious and had what i needed. There was a loud AC unit on the building across from my window that was noisy and the windows were frosted, couldn't see out. There was no view but i like to see outside.

Location is very good and if you get the room below 100USD, it is a good hotel. Just be aware, you will hear everything - this is definitely not a soundproof hotel. Ask for a room which is not facing to the street - that room may get hot and you may hear all the kind of sounds (music, fans blowing leaves, ....). It has a supermarket across the street and everything is super close in walking distance. We booked two King Room Plus - very large rooms with a lot of space. Also, this hotel has washing machine, useful for longer travels.

The hotel was a quick walk to all the tourist areas around Cairns. It looks a bit dated but if you’re only there to sleep, it will do. My biggest quibble has to do with the AC in the hotel. The lobby, hallways and even my room is as hot and humid as the tropical North. And that’s with the AC on already.

Good location. Room and hotel are a little old. The WiFi is unavailable in most of times.

Everything in the hotel was quite old. The bed was super squeaky and not comfortable at all. Also, the room was not very well sound proof. We could hear the next room persons talking while they were not even trying to be loud. The only great thing about this hotel is the location!

Bathrooms lack a basic thing like a towel rail. Shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold.

This is my second stay at hides and the second time I haven’t received my $100 bond back very disappointed have rang several times and it’s been 10 days since checking out and they continue to say it takes a few business days not happy

Where the hotel certainly needs some TLC it is in a great location , close to so much , bars , restaurants , tour operators , cruise terminal and more . The staff couldn’t be more helpful .

We booked a stay at Hides Hotel from February 9th to February 14th but were physically unable to reach Cairns due to severe flooding. Despite multiple attempts, including two bus journeys and a flight, all of which were cancelled due to the extreme weather, the hotel has refused to offer any form of refund or even a partial credit. Their reasoning? The flooding is “not their responsibility.” While we understand that we booked a non-refundable rate, good customer service is about more than just policies—it’s about fairness and basic decency. The hotel incurred no expenses on our stay since we were never able to check in, yet they insist on keeping the full amount. To make matters worse, when we reached out to discuss the situation, we were met with a dismissive and condescending response, telling us we should “plan our trips better” as if we could predict a natural disaster. This experience has shown us that Hides Hotel cares more about taking customers’ money than about providing fair and reasonable service. We will never book here again and strongly advise others to think twice before doing so. If you value customer service, flexibility, and understanding, look elsewhere.

Great staff

Location 10/10 Service 0/10 I had to work full time while staying at the Hides hotel, and unfortunately the wifi wasn’t working. (Things happens) staff kept telling us someone was looking at it, that’s untrue. We stayed 3 nights and nothing happened. I asked multiple times to cancel our stay as this was affecting my work and I needed wifi and they said « not our problem, it’s free anyway » honestly wished I never came to this place. Made me hate cairns altogether because of the horrible service. I even offered if I could get a credit for the cost that I had to pay in for SIM card. They said multiple times they would talk to their manager, either they did and management doesn’t care, or they didn’t because they knew wifi wouldn’t be fixed anyway. Garbage

Staff double booked my room so stranger entered in middle of night, I will not stay here again

After checking-in we went to our room and when we opened the door, it was already occupied and full of rubbish. We informed the reception and they changed our room to one that was clean and empty. The room was okay but there were some issues. The shower head wasn’t screwed in properly so you had to hold the shower head to shower. The wall above the bed was covered in handprints. The aircon had an issue and was incredibly loud so we had to use the fan which was hanging from exposed wires. A very disappointing stay.

Staff were freindly and helpful. Wifi was not good. Housekeeping was only every 4 days so not great.

Was not allowed to check in due to no physical photo ID (stolen wallet), had photo of ID on phone which was accepted at other hotels. No leniency showed by reception, had to find alternative accommodation at 9pm after long day of travel. Attempted to contact manager for refund without success.

Dear Hides Hotel! I checked out 5 days ago and the 100 AUD you took out from my account as “block pre authotization garanteed” isn’t yet back in my account!! To take the money out took 5 seconds!!! To refund it back?? How many days you need?? Why don’t you take just one dollar (like the hotel I am now in Sydney) and in case any liability to any damage you charge what is due?? I need this money and you haven’t refunded it to my account yet. Await you reply. Thank you.

Great location - central to all

Many homeless around the property. Felt unsafe. Staff were great and the room was ok.

CBD location, easy access to food transportation

The staff were nice enough, however the hotel was only alright. The hallways were unbearably warm and the AC barely kept the room at a reasonable temperture. There were always sketchy things going on around the hotel too... Very loud homeless people

Close to all conveniences, especially the esplanade which l thought was a real showpiece.

The location is perfect. City center, central station, transport, aquarium, esplanade etc. All really close by.

Great location, very close and walking distance to everything. Hotel run down. Extremely noisy at night even until 3am. Probably not for families but if you are young and up every night partying then its fine. Swimming pool was out of order. Overall average stay, liked it because of location.

Great location. Handy to everything. Good value breakfast if a bit basic and great to sit outside on balcony. Reception at times felt like a hostel with some staff a little unfriendly and officious and people sitting around waiting. Disappointing to have to wait to specified check in time rather than being offered the room when actually ready. Overall a good spot for a short stay.

An old favourite where I and lots of Cooktown locals have been coming for years but that was mainly because of the price and for the free breakfast with boiled eggs. Not a great continental breakfast now but was quite cheap. The really good thing is the reception is open until about 2100 hrs. Other similar priced Cairns hotels close well before. But really clean and had a comfy bed which is the main thing.

Room was clean and in a great location. Staff were friendly and attentive. Had the continental breakfast which was adequate for us. Only disappointment was that photos show people eating and drinking on the great balcony but premises are not licenced so you need to buy your own drinks and food to enjoy on it.

Bad TV reception. breakfast was very average for continental. cold baked beans .convenient for shops and eateries. Bit dear at $205 a night.rooms big.

Great location & good breakfast offer. Only one person acknowledging guests on reception but apart from that no issue. Spacious room with good facilities

Very happy with the room we had with a central location easy to walk around. Wonderful brekky in the mornings!

Very central.large room,both Air Con and fan worked well.early continental breakfast on balcony adequate and convenient. Down side was room not available until 2.35pm
