Eltham Gateway Hotel & Conference Centre

I chose this motel only because of its proximity to my intended activity. The property is tired and in need of another renovation phase. It has such great potential yet seems to be only receiving most essential maintenance. I can understand how the pandemic must have smashed the profitability of this business. The reception staff were very helpful enabling an early check-in. (Thank you Joe? / Cho?.) The room was clean, warm and mostly comfortable and acceptably equipped. Shower and toilet plumbing is a bit noisy. Lack of outdoor lighting for rooms 21 - 34 is an EXTREME HAZARD when moving during hours of darkness. The property has no bar or dining which is a shame as I would have used it if available. Good for short stays where location is top priority.

I arrived at 1pm to find reception locked. Called the number provided and a gentleman came to check me in. Said I was booked into a hillview spa suite but when I saw the amount of stairs that had to be climbed to reach it, asked if there was anything lower down. He didn’t offer any alternative but asked me if I was good with stairs. Now I will be 80 this year and reasonably fit but no way able to carry my suitcase up. However a staff member assisted by delivering my suitcase to the room. Was disappointed when I unlocked the door as the decor was, to say the least, very lack lustre. The red couch and armchair looked like they had been picked up on the side of the road. The chair’s lining underneath was hanging down. In the kitchen there was only one cup and one glass, a few plates and some cutlery but no plug for the sink and no tea towel. The bathroom was reasonable but only one cake of soap. The cupboards and the architraves are in bad need of repair. It takes several minutes for the hot water to come through.. The decking outside is in bad repair. I felt like I was going to fall through it in several places. The back garden is full of weeds. I stayed 3 nights and not once was my bed made. There was evidence that housekeeping has been there as the rubbish bin was emptied and the towels changed but no bath mat left on the first day and only once was milk and coffee topped up. On the day of my departure, there was no one about to help me with my case.

My stay was fine. I picked the room as I needed a table to work on. The room description and pics advised I'd get that. I didnt. The Do Not Disturb sign on the door was ignored to drop off towels. I was trying to take a nap at the time, so having someone knock three times to get my attention was frustrating. Property has good parking and is spread out enough to not hear too much noise from other guests. Reception was always in attendance when I went in, and I was able to add another night's stay easily.

Room was good, but the bathroom could have been better, signs of mould between wall tiles, cracked floor tiles. Access to the room was up several flights of steep stairs (it was raining), difficult for both of us, 70yrs plus Us

the convenience and quiet surroundings were good... the tiredness and openness of the premises allows anyone to wonder in.

VERY noisy. My room had a water system near by that ran the whole time, the walls were paper thin- I could hear the neighbours next door- their entire conversation AND their snoring. There was NO light in the morning for me to go outside & navigate all the stairs- pitch black.

Room was clean. We only got 3 towels for 4 people. Not happy. Check in desk was unmanned at check in time. Had to call mobile number to get someone to attend. Good car parking, easy to find room as you get shown a map. Only one pillow per person, probably should be two. Needs to have ice cube trays if needed. Nice hot showers. Ample cupboard space in rooms and bathroom. Windows did not open so couldn’t get any fresh air. Check out was easy just drop room keys into slot and go.

Couldn’t park close to room. Woeful lighting. Couldn’t shave or apply make up. Garden rubbish. Junk everywhere. Not a thing in mini bar. Not even complimentary bottled water. One of the worst I have ever stayed in. Only good point was good hot shower and towels 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Quiet area, easy parking, friendly staff

All pretty good, little bit tired and worn in places but overall nice and quiet. We had enquired about disabled access and booked the family room as we had a wheel chair and walker. When we found two big sets of stairs on arrival we were very surprised. We did end up with much smaller rooms that had no full kitchen etc and still 5 steps to contend with but appreciated having somewhere to stay after our 3 hr drive. It would be good to update the info around disabled access and educate the staff too as this would be a real issue for some people. I managed to get everyone up and down each day but it felt dangerous!

rooms very dated and not that clean. for the price i expected more

I booked a new updated room but got an old room and no refund of the price difference. Bathrooms were filthy, moldy and very aged. Bed sheets were stained or dirty.

Cleanliness was disgusting spare blankets smelled like vomit. Carpet was dirty with outdated furniture and fittings

Das Personal war freundlich und hilfsbereit. Das Zimmer war nicht sauber (Spinnennetze, schmutziges Waschbecken und Haare im Bad, Boden mit Flecken). Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Herdplatte, jedoch keine Möglichkeit zu kochen da es weder Topf noch Pfanne gab. Auch spülen von Geschirr war mangels fehlenden schwamm nicht einfach.

Delapidated and old. We had two rooms and one stunk of cigarettes. Curtains were not on the track properly and one didn't close properly. Wires running out of the bedside table.Wasing hanging outside walkway. Doonah was stained and disgusting.

My room was not cleaned thoroughly before I checked into it. There was sticky residue on the side tables from drinks placed here, the bathrooms towels had orange food stains on it and hair stuck to it. Really disappointing.

Should have read the reviews first. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. Rooms- grubby. Cobwebs in the corners of the rooms stains in the walls and sink. Cleaners left a kitchen sponge for us to reuse and used cotton buds on the ground. Bathroom- Bathtub has clearly not been cleaned in a long time (see photos). Tiles lifted and one falling off the wall. Outside- Paths full of overgrown weeds.

I booked this hotel for my mother-in law…big mistake Do not book this hotel. The rooms are beyond dirty, mould in bathroom, a toilet seat that was so old and scratched it was hard to sit on. The light switches were broken and sometimes worked Several other wedding guest stayed there and their rooms were worse. Power points hanging out of the walls. The place is dangerous. The property also houses people that have come out of prision paid directly by the goverment Dont book you have been warned

We arrived at 9pm after driving from Adelaide.I had called the night before to say that was when we would arrive . No one at reception, we called the number, and the man actually sighed and groaned when I said we were there. We were shown an aerial view of how to get to our room. We had to carry suitcases up 2 levels of outside stone steps ( not lit) walk along an unlit outside dirt path to 2 flights of wooden steps. They were well lit and had a good hand rail but the rest was difficult and dangerous. When we arrived there was a cockroach on the bed and what appeared to be mouse excrement on the chair. The bathroom had mould and the light did not work above the mirror. We were too tired to complain and went to sleep. The next day no food was available and so we had to drive to find breakfast. We had come for a wedding and called to request more towels. The man on reception did not want to give them to us ; he argued 2 people only 2 towels but finally gave in. The towels did arrive promptly. We were staying in a spa suite. The next night there was a huge huntsman on the curtains. So BYO insect killer. There’s a lot of noise from neighbouring rooms: Shower / walking etc. I did not feel comfortable sitting on the furniture or sleeping in the bed. Luckily, we had brought our own pillows so something was clean.

The area is quiet , rooms are spacious and hospitality was great. Just needs to improve on the window cottons, they need a change or regular wash

Booking confirmed as queen bed but room had double bed - air con had loud ticking noise - bathroom Reno’s not complete - hand held spray had no holder just rests on soap holder - screws etc left on window ledge - stains on tiles & around taps

The spa was not working - very disappointing as this was a key reason for staying at this location.

Quiet and convenient. Room was in very good condition with tv snd air con Wi fi signal could have been better.

Booked through Wotif. Booking was not picked up by the property, despite being fully paid for. Disconcerting when arriving late after a delayed flight. Staff sorted it out, but could not access a room until 2 hours later.

Owner was abolutely fantastic, I called prior to explain why we were staying and he was so accomodating. was a breeze to pick up keys and a breeze to return :)

The hotel was quite nice. There was a little hiccup with my original room not being cleaned prior to check in, however, they apologised and attended to it immediately, and also offered an upgrade. The room and bathroom were very clean. The beds and pillows were also clean and comfortable. The 2 queen bed room, was quite large and had a large desk that was great. Heater worked really well. Not too far to go for good dining options either. Would be happy to stay here again.

Was down in Mel for a party it was close and handy for that

We stayed 3 nights to attend a function close by. Staff were friendly. The hotel itself is a little old. The room was comfortable enough. The walkway from the carpark to the rooms smelled terrible every day. The property is away from any shops or cafes so you have to drive everywhere.

Pleasant property, close to amenities, semi-rural surroundings.

Hotel definitely does not look anything like advertised. Pretty run down and not maintained well. We were there for a wedding and decided to go up a little early to relax and couldn’t even use the spa in our room due to lack of hot water. When reporting it we were told to “wait a few hours”. Tried again in the morning with same issues. Also there is meant to be a restaurant but it was closed. No room service or mini bar and manuals refer to “dial 9 for reception” and there is no phone in the rooms. Also no one bothers to come and turn down the rooms during your stay. I reported the spa again on check out to which I was told someone would call and organise compensation - but a week later and it never happened. We were also told by another couple staying that they tried to check in at 4pm and their room was “trashed” and not even cleaned yet. Definitely won’t be coming back here again, very disappointing

very hard when you stay at a place and there is no were to eat and drink. Bar and bistro were closed and had not been open for some time.

Property needs to update that there is no room service but otherwise very nice

I booked this place as it had a restaurant and bar but discovered after checking in they were closed and it appeared they had been closed for a while, so that was disappointing. Bed was comfortable and room was clean but decor very dated. There were no point points next to the bed so charging phones overnight was a nuisance especially as there was no bedside clock and I use my phone as an alarm and to check the time overnight.
