Me and my hushad an amazing weekend for our 1st anniversary, food was excellent location was fantastic. Hottub in the forrest was an experience, although the Sauna was a little too small, not much value for money we paid on the twilight package we picked. Next time we would just book the hottub. Peacocks roaming around the grounds feeding out of your hands was something else. I would highly recommend a stay at Ruthin Castle.

Lovely place to come and relax. We liked the many peacocks that were freely roaming around the grounds. Staff on reception were so happy and welcoming. Spa facilities were good. Recommend the mud rasul! Food was lovely

Really beutifiul setting and picturesque castle. room was huge, comfy bed, some fittings such as hairdrier a bit dated. the spa is nice, although you only get a strict one hour in the hot tub when you book in, which is a bit of a shame

An 800 year old castle, as you would expect, the facility is a little dated! But other than that, what am experience. Truly enjoyed our 4-days here. A good restaurant, a decent breakfast, and a very nice spa! Not sure I would stay again when in Northern Wales, many other options. But one time a must for anyone! And the peacocks, beautiful!

Went for two nights but different this time ,the lovely library bar not open any more in castle ,and berties restaurant closed, have to use other bar and restaurant now which nowhere near good enough as the other two, The rooms lovely ,clean and warm include bath etc cleanliness of rooms excellent but why the toilets in the castle itself look like something from 1960 i dont know,i know its a castle and want to keep it looking like one, but i feel the toilets should be brought up to date now,as im sure it would put a lot of people' off getting married in the castle with toilets of that standard. Obviously not a criticism of stay but just a few improvements neeeded.

Windows in the room were rotten through and mouldy. The plug hole of the bath clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a while and I don’t think the room could have been decorated in 30 years. Although the hotel and grounds are beautiful the upkeep and cleanliness of the inside left a lot to be desired.

The interior is in need of repair. Many missing or dirty ceiling tiles, paint needs to be refreshed. The spa had mold in the room for mud treatments. When we requested our room be refreshed, we were given one body towel with a rip in it, there was no facial tissue, the “toiletries” were none, one bottle of “hand, body, shampoo” mix. The toilet was difficult to flush. When we left, the door literally broke. The staff were all amazing and the outdoor grounds beautiful. I would not pay $1600 Canadian to stay there again.

Ruthin Castle is a beautiful location with a good selection of rooms. Staff was friendly and parking was sufficient. A would rate it as a god mid-range stay. We did not take advantage of the spa services so we can not rate that aspect. Our main complaint was our room had a pretty bad sour / moldy smell. After a few minutes you are "nose-blind" to it, but it was a bit overwhelming when we first step into the room.

Absolutely stunning place most staff were lovely, only thing to let it down, the cleanliness, the bedside tables near the sockets was a thick layer of dust and in the bathroom roller blind was full of squashed bugs (just a lack of attention to detail).and part of the bath was broken and the breakfast was pretty standard, but we stayed in room 207, the prince of wales suite and the room was gorgeous and we went on a walk round the grounds was amazing, the woman who greeted us at reception was lovely I didn’t catch her name but she had short hair and glasses, made us feel very welcomed,

Firstly, the staff are all lovely and very accomodating even at busy times. They are all extremely polite and do their best to make your stay be the best it can be. The grounds themselves are beautiful,with hundreds of years of history both inside and outside the castle. You are free to roam around at all hours and partake in a history trail. There are many placards around the hotel/castle so that you can learn plenty while there. The small town of Ruthin is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The food is also excellent, if not slightly overpriced. However, eating in the medieval themed "Tafarn y ddraig" makes it worth the price. Certainly a unique experience. Now onto the negatives. This is not a cheap hotel by any standard, with even the cheapest rooms costing over £100 a night. With the standard room that I stayed in, I found it to be a bit dirty, particularly the carpet, with many dog hairs and flakes of old mud in it. This continued into the bathroom, which was spacious. However, there was a strange damp odour coming from it, probably because it was a wet room with poor ventilation. As an aside, the water pressure and temperature was very low. This meant that filling the huge bath took well over 1 hour. Overall, it is a unique experience that you will not regret. The food is tasty, the grounds are beautiful and the staff make you feel welcome. If you have the budget, go for a room upgrade to really feel like the King of the castle.

Impressive property,beautiful grounds, lovely room,showerhead had pink mould,abit off putting but generally good .You can't sit outside to eat in the evening which is a shame and the casual dine menu that is on till 9 isn't.Check in 3 pm quite late if you have a baby but check out was 12.The lady in charge of restaurant taking payment never smiled or spoke,the other members of staff Kate and Barbara on reception very proffesional.Breakfast underwhelming,fruit salad I imagined allsorts but was prunes and oranges only.Bread was ready sliced plastic wrap bread.Peacocks,rabbits the odd sheep wonderful to observe.7 out of 10.We would return but lower expectations for breakfast.

The bedroom was dusty and dirty. Shower on his last legs. The maids never refilled coffee milk etc. The way the beds were made was just thrown back on. The food in the restaurant was at a lower standard. To be honest, absolutely terrible. This place needs a revamp and improve standards.

Daily room cleaning had to be requested and was not carried out even with a firm request. Hence, dirty towels left in the bath for two days and night staff running around trying to locate fresh linen, tea, milk etc and toilet paper! The room phone didn't work so unable to contact reception ...to complain. The toilet and shower leaked meaning lots of wet towels on the floor and on our 4th day we didn't have any hot water....cold showers! The breakfast was made up of the cheapest ingredients possible ,however, the staff were very friendly/helpful and trying hard to make a silk purse from a sows ear!!!

The worst I have ever seen! This is not 4 star hotel and definitely not luxurious. It should be closed down! We've been put in the room with mold and rotten doors! Damp coming through the ceiling and no soap in the shower with lots of red bacteria growing everywhere! We immediately went to reception to ask for a room without the mold and they couldn't care less and said they are fully booked. We had to leave the hotel and the whole bank holiday weekend was ruined because we couldn't get into another hotel due to everywhere being fully booked!

Bedrooms are very dated and in need of redecoration . Bathroom had cobwebs around the sink and bath , sheets were stained as was the carpets. Bedroom curtains don’t cover the windows fully so very light in the morning. Mirror by the dressing table was on an angle so have to sit sideways to look in the mirror. No usb plug sockets

Staff was very nice and helpful. Bedroom was good, bed on the soft side. Bathroom modernized, but being a bath the shower was a bit weird, as water was going outside. It was ok though and good temperature . The overall room was a bit dated but understandable as it is an old property. Lovely view to next door farms and countryside. A bit of noise could be heard from the next room and even some movement on the wall/ back of the bed. But no outside noises at all. Great lovely gardens and lots of animals around. Spa was very good and lovely outdoors hot tub! Breakfast good, nice dinning area (be sure to reserve your slot on time) . The low points go to the cleaning, it could have been better (some dirt on bathroom and windows). Good location , walk to town. Overall good.

We were upgraded to a suite which was out of this world. The only comment for improvement was the heating. The suite was so big the heating never really coped, but a fantastic experience.

Overall we had a lovely time. However we didn't think the service was particularly great and the breakfast on both days was appalling; we were asked what time we wanted breakfast and stated 9am but on both days there was nothing left. We had to ask for everything we wanted and when things arrived they arrived separately therefore not allowing us to eat together or as one complete breakfast. The staff on duty were not visible in the dining area to ask. Our room was comfortable but we were surprised that our towels were not refreshed or bed made in the morning.

I rang before i did my booing to find out for a suite with a four poster bed they said its available. booked got to the property what a disappointment no rooms available i was gutted gave me a cheap suite. If i new it wasn't available i wouldn't have booked. Make sure you check what your booking thought me lesson.

We had a one night stay at Ruthin Castle Hotel. The hotel is a great building with loads of character. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, the food was very good as was the service. The bar staff were also very friendly. Our problems started after dinner. Went to bed at 11.30pm, jumped into bed to find that the mattress was devoid of any padding, just metal springs and wires. Completely impossible to sleep on. Went to reception and the guy on duty was very helpful. He got all the keys of available rooms and we then walked around this large hotel trying to find a room which was habitable with a made up bed. Eventually found one and got to bed at 1.30 am. He was very apologetic, we were just grateful for his help and relieved to get a bed we could sleep on. The next morning at check out we told the staff on reception what had happened. They said they already knew. When my husband asked what the chance was of getting a complimentary breakfast as we’d spent all that time walking around in the early hours looking for a bed, the lady behind the desk just laughed and said no. Poor service there, especially as we had been polite and reasonable through the whole sorry affair. So some good points during our stay, but also some very poor customer service.

Fabulous hotel, one of the best short breaks I’ve ever experienced. The castle grounds are stunning and the food was top drawer. Hotel room wonderful and the staff were superb. The female receptionist yesterday afternoon was so friendly and accommodating as was the female receptionist who checked us out earlier today. Ellis in the restaurant was fantastic, so welcoming, polite and professional. We will definitely be returning as a result of our experience and Ellis and others being top drawer with superb etiquette. Thank you

It’s kind of 2 castles, the real one and the Victorian addition so a great mismash. Yes it needs more staff on the cleaning and maintenance side and another gardener who doesn’t just blow leaves around with a leaf blower but it also has some some wonderful views and a great place to just wander around to the cries of the peacocks. Our suite had recently been revamped so big roll top bath, loads of hot water and 2tv’s, one in each room. Fresh milk available from the bar and ok Wi-Fi. Dinner was good esp. my battered pork and oriental coleslaw. Breakfast not so great, only fruit to go with the yoghurt tinned grapefruit and prunes poor quality coffee and fatty bacon but for the price was OK. The real reason to stay is you can wander around the various nooks and crannies and on a sunny day that’s good enough. Bar and dining room both very dark and not so clean with dust n cobwebs everywhere. The town is just beyond the gatehouse so easy stroll to have a wander around Ruthin too. We had a DBnB deal midweek which was good and pleased we stayed, it could be more pleasant if cleaner and better maintained but then would probably cost 50% more so for us we’d accept it as it is but just be prepared for the dust n grubbiness and think well it is a castle (or 2)

It’s a castle . In itself that delivers a degree of grandiosity. Very impressive elements of period decor and artifacts on display . Parking was fine on multiple days . Town is a short walk down the drive . Peacocks everywhere, you won’t miss them . A very pleasant place to stay

This hotel is built into an old castle. You can walk around the ancient castle sections and there's information about the history which is all really interesting. Plenty of parking and lovely grounds. Nice restaurant and bar and spacious bedroom.

Ruthin Castle hotel is an amazing place to stay. It is very atmospheric. The food was excellent and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was only a 5 minute walk into Ruthin, which is a lovely little town, with some beautiful cottages and quaint little shops. I felt like I'd stepped back into another century for a few days. We had a lovely relaxing break there.

The room was lovely and clean, we stayed for a wedding the breakfast was awful, we booked for 930 pastries were the tiniest croissant i have ever seen, coffee flasks empty has to ask, orange juice in a glass dispenser, below the tap, tipped it to fill one glass asked for more, this was emptied in didnt make any difference. Hot breakfast cold either under done n cold or over cooked n hard or nothing in the bain marie, kept having to ask for anything no one monitored, all in all poor , we only live 5 mins away but this was supposed to be a treat wont be going again

What a fabulous place; the building is beautiful, the grounds are lovely for a wander around and the room was magnificent. The room was warm, the bed very comfortable and bathroom was clean and the towels were fluffy. We would very much recommend this place to stay. The food was fab: amazing choice for breakfast and really well thought, seasonal dinner options. Good wine list and lovely bar to relax in.

Great hotel if you want to stay in a castle it is kept to a good standard considering it is a castle , the staff are more than helpful and are all wanting to please you , we had evening meal which was very good which we both enjoyed, we are on a gluten free diet and it was no problem at all for them, the breakfast the next day was also really good , the grounds are also very nice to walk around and explore, we both enjoyed staying here thanks to all the hard working staff we most likely will return

Lovely stay.. but felt there was a lack of attention to the details/experience. Spa felt very chaotic and unorganised...Dinner felt very un atmospheric.. poor lighting (felt like we were eating in a care home/school hall). No music.. and very limited menu with little consistency in cuisines! Breakfast was also very drab.. low quality food and bad design/layout. We couldnt fault the staff who were all extremely lovely and helpful.. but feel the management has forgotten to ensure that the experience is one that youd want to return to. Some small changes would make a big differnence... Its a fantastic location/venue but needs better oversight.. id suggest the lighting in the restaurants first! (Small table lamps at the grand hotel birmingham were fantastic..and minimal costs)... music would also be nice! Sadly wont be returning.. but certainly enjoyed elements of our stay.

Firstly, the staff are all lovely and very accomodating even at busy times. They are all extremely polite and do their best to make your stay be the best it can be. The grounds themselves are beautiful,with hundreds of years of history both inside and outside the castle. You are free to roam around at all hours and partake in a history trail. There are many placards around the hotel/castle so that you can learn plenty while there. The small town of Ruthin is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The food is also excellent, if not slightly overpriced. However, eating in the medieval themed "Tafarn y ddraig" makes it worth the price. Certainly a unique experience. Now onto the negatives. This is not a cheap hotel by any standard, with even the cheapest rooms costing over £100 a night. With the standard room that I stayed in, I found it to be a bit dirty, particularly the carpet, with many dog hairs and flakes of old mud in it. This continued into the bathroom, which was spacious. However, there was a strange damp odour coming from it, probably because it was a wet room with poor ventilation. As an aside, the water pressure and temperature was very low. This meant that filling the huge bath took well over 1 hour. Overall, it is a unique experience that you will not regret. The food is tasty, the grounds are beautiful and the staff make you feel welcome. If you have the budget, go for a room upgrade to really feel like the King of the castle.

Impressive property,beautiful grounds, lovely room,showerhead had pink mould,abit off putting but generally good .You can't sit outside to eat in the evening which is a shame and the casual dine menu that is on till 9 isn't.Check in 3 pm quite late if you have a baby but check out was 12.The lady in charge of restaurant taking payment never smiled or spoke,the other members of staff Kate and Barbara on reception very proffesional.Breakfast underwhelming,fruit salad I imagined allsorts but was prunes and oranges only.Bread was ready sliced plastic wrap bread.Peacocks,rabbits the odd sheep wonderful to observe.7 out of 10.We would return but lower expectations for breakfast.
Impressive property,beautiful grounds, lovely room,showerhead had pink mould,abit off putting but generally good .You can't sit outside to eat in the evening which is a shame and the casual dine menu that is on till 9 isn't.Check in 3 pm quite late if you have a baby but check out was 12.The lady in charge of restaurant taking payment never smiled or spoke,the other members of staff Kate and Barbara on reception very proffesional.Breakfast underwhelming,fruit salad I imagined allsorts but was prunes and oranges only.Bread was ready sliced plastic wrap bread.Peacocks,rabbits the odd sheep wonderful to observe.7 out of 10.We would return but lower expectations for breakfast.

Fabulous hotel, one of the best short breaks I’ve ever experienced. The castle grounds are stunning and the food was top drawer. Hotel room wonderful and the staff were superb. The female receptionist yesterday afternoon was so friendly and accommodating as was the female receptionist who checked us out earlier today. Ellis in the restaurant was fantastic, so welcoming, polite and professional. We will definitely be returning as a result of our experience and Ellis and others being top drawer with superb etiquette. Thank you

Ruthin Castle has so much character and charm. We love the rustic feel, the fascinating history, and the unique atmosphere that makes it feel unlike anywhere else we've stayed. This visit we stayed in the Prince of Wales Suite, and it was fantastic. It felt incredibly grand and prestigious, making our stay even more special. The staff deserve a special mention too. Every member of the team we encountered was friendly, welcoming, attentive and genuinely helpful, which really adds to the whole experience. If I could suggest just one improvement, it would be for the maintenance team to focus on some of the smaller cosmetic details. The hotel certainly doesn't need a full renovation, as its age and character are part of its appeal, but touching up areas with peeling or chipped paint would make a noticeable difference. They're quick wins that would help keep the castle looking at its very best while preserving its historic charm. Overall, we had another wonderful stay and are already looking forward to returning. If you're looking for a hotel with history, character, a unique atmosphere and excellent staff, Ruthin Castle is a fantastic place to stay.

Wonderful hotel location with lovely helpful staff. The hotel is in the historic castle building and offers lots to see on site. Its decor is a little tired in places but overall we had a great time. The restaurant food was very good. We also started each day with a decent cooked breakfast.

From the outside of the castle it looks very impressive but like all old buildings they are a bit rundown in places, but it was clean, our room was very spacious and looked fantastic from afar but when you got closer there were a few issues, mainly in the bathroom but it wasn’t enough to ask for a change of room. There’s no lift available so be prepared for either long walks through several corridors or several flights of stairs to get to your room, that was the only downside. The breakfast was help yourself and there was plenty of choice, we ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely, but be prepared for very high bar prices for drinks, £12.50 for a large glass of wine, there’s a few pubs about a 7 minute walk away. The grounds are lovely and there’s several peacocks wandering around, they were a bit noisy at times but we enjoyed our stay there.
