Unfortunately the two night stay was disappointing. We arrived late, the parking is terrible...difficult to get in and out and very small spaces. We could not park the car at the front of the property to unload as there were cars all over the place, so we had to do several trips as we had a lot of luggage. There is no cart or porter to help with luggage. We were hungry when we arrived but they stopped all food service at 9.30pm. The room was cold, very dated and worn. The bed was uncomfortable, and really hard. There are two ugly old chairs by a small table with stains and no cushions for comfort. To top of the terrible standard of the room, the noise was ridiculous. People walking past our door after 11pm talking and laughing really loud, and the noise from the the room upstairs kept us from sleeping. They were not being noisy but we could hear them walking around the room as the walls are so thin. It was as if they were going to fall through the ceiling. Our room was 107, terrible noise, terrible room. We are having to stay in hotels for the next few months due to moving homes, we will not be staying here again. On a positive note, the restaurant was nice and the staff were lovely. The gentleman at check out this morning was rude. The entire hotel needs renovating and updating.

Very disappointing stay. Hotel is unloved worst 4* ive stayed at booked a deluxe room there was nothing deluxe about it no little touches not even water in the room. The water dispenser outside the room was running warm water when i asked for water was told to go to level above. Breakfast is basic buffet again nothing special pool is dirty not looked after changing rooms full of rubbish dirty towels pool not manned so kids running riot jumping in the pool everywhere facilities all in all not good all mouldy in need of redecoration no robes given for spa hotel. Steam room wasnt working the costume dryer was broken. There was room service plates left out and not cleared up for over 12hours disguising to walk past. All the hotel is worm needs redecorating and carpeting. We were woken at 6am by tradesman talking on phone and everytime the people walked across the floor in the room above it sounded like plates shaking. The only positive thing i can say is there is elemis shampoo and tolitries we will not return!

Had stayed here a few days. Foyer and exterior on arrival is excellent. Rooms felt very tired and dated. TV didn’t work ;was reported and the staff couldn’t get it fixed either……. No channels). Breakfast service was pleasant enough. Nice setting. Just felt like it had been warned from the day before (sausages and bacon). Cheese looked like it had been left out too long and was crying out for help. - bed was comfortable enough, and had a good sleep. - Staff were very friendly and all clearly did the best they could within their control. - Spa was clearly having maintenance, so couldn’t use showers or mens dressing room. Pool was pleasant enough, my limited on this visit

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, the room was lovely and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The gym while not the biggest had a lot of equipment, good cardio machines and weight section. The pool was really good and we really liked the outdoor jacuzzi. The cocktails in the bar were incredibly good. I would definitely stay here again.

The website photos presented a more luxurious hotel than our experience. What attracted us to book was that it is advertised as a hotel with a spa, and we were most looking forward to the small heated outdoor pool. Unfortunately it wasn't clear when we booked that on Boxing the pool/sauna/steam room closed at 6pm, so as we couldn't arrive until after 6pm, we could only use the spa facilities the next morning for a short time. Also disappointedly, the outdoor pool was broken over Christmas, which made this a very ordinary spa experience. The salt room also wasn't working. Our deluxe double room was comfortable, but it and the corridors could do with a little TLC. The carpet and curtains seem dated, and the woodwork paint was a bit worn. Our fridge didn't work. Breakfast was poor for a 4 star hotel, in terms of variety and quality. On the plus side, all the staff were excellent, and the hotel was very clean. Our room's bathroom has been modernised, unlike the room itself. So all in all, it was an OK stay but the hotel is not really as the image it projects itself to be.

The room had dirt on the walls and curtains. The bath was broken and had brown stains on it. Not what I was expecting from this hotel. Had to pay extra for a latte as only ‘normal coffee’ was included in the breakfast. Ordered a vanilla latte and a plain latte arrived. Was then told they didn’t have syrup. To then be told they could get one from the bar. Latte was then cold by the time they brought syrup over. Very disappointing stay

Perfect location for the races and great to have free parking. Fine for one nights stay, you get what you pay for, had everything we needed for the night in a basic double room. Bit grubby and dated, pool area was a bit run down. Corridors are very loud and noisy, not really the hotel's fault, but the doors don't help to stop noise coming in. Shame because the hotel and grounds look lovely and it was probably a really expensive plush hotel back in the day.

We stayed in room 119, which is a standard double. The room itself felt dated and certainly well-worn (especially the carpets), but it was pleasant enough with all the facilities we needed. The let down, however, was the extremely small bathroom with obvious repair issues. The bath wooden bath panel was broken and cracked at the top, so every time we used the bath we had to be careful of our step so we didn’t catch our legs on the sharp wood. There were also black bits (really not sure what they were) coming out of the bathroom taps, which floated in the water and were left in the bath once it had drained. The room was missing any sense of luxury, which you do expect in some aspects from a 4* hotel. Our stay itself was pleasant and the staff seemed nice enough. Just a shame that the room wasn’t up to par.

It was simply awful. The hotel is completely run down, stinks of staleness everywhere. It is desperately in need of a lick of paint at the very least. Our walls were peeling, the furniture in the room was dusty and crusty. We dared not sit on the armchairs which had the fabric clinging on for dear life. Was so upset - had New Years Eve ruined by booking here. Having been for a spa day at this hotel two years ago - I was so looking forward to staying for the first time and had the worst experience. At breakfast we had to queue up for 40 mins, had to ask for drinks and waited another 30 mins for food to be replenished. I feel for the staff who were all nice but exhausted and embarrassed by the shabby hotel. The owners need to sharpen up. Simply awful, desperately wanting a refund for a miserable stay.

Breakfast was excellent. The room was very cold. We had to keep mentioning it and in the end they gave us a portable heater. The pool and spa area was in need of some love. Overall a nice stay BUT there are three toilets as you enter the main reception so it stunk.

**Hotel Review** Upon arrival at the hotel, I was able to go to my room without any issues. However, I found that there were no amenities or toiletries in the bathroom. When I requested them, I was only provided with a toothbrush, which was quite disappointing. The general condition of the room was satisfactory. A friendly welcome and a buzz from the bar, the reception boasts comfort and character. Unfortunately our room was not great. Broken window, phone did not work, air con not working. Chips and mould in the bath, holes on walls around sockets. The spa area really needed cleaning and wiping up every hour. In room dining the food was good with an £8 tray charge which was a bit pricy. The breakfast staff were friendly and the breakfast was delicious. This was not a 4 star experience but can always make improvements to get there….

The website photos presented a more luxurious hotel than our experience. What attracted us to book was that it is advertised as a hotel with a spa, and we were most looking forward to the small heated outdoor pool. Unfortunately it wasn't clear when we booked that on Boxing the pool/sauna/steam room closed at 6pm, so as we couldn't arrive until after 6pm, we could only use the spa facilities the next morning for a short time. Also disappointedly, the outdoor pool was broken over Christmas, which made this a very ordinary spa experience. The salt room also wasn't working. Our deluxe double room was comfortable, but it and the corridors could do with a little TLC. The carpet and curtains seem dated, and the woodwork paint was a bit worn. Our fridge didn't work. Breakfast was poor for a 4 star hotel, in terms of variety and quality. On the plus side, all the staff were excellent, and the hotel was very clean. Our room's bathroom has been modernised, unlike the room itself. So all in all, it was an OK stay but the hotel is not really as the image it projects itself to be.

We stayed in a four poster room in the original Manor House that was large and had nice original features. However, the room and bathroom were both incredibly tired and are in desperate need of a renovation. The carpet was ripped in a few places, the four poster canopy was hanging off, there were cracked tiles in the bathroom and the shower, which leaked all over the bathroom floor, was a dribble at best with non-functioning temperature controls. The “garden view” was a view of a roof and the large canopy over the outside bar area. We mentioned the condition of the room at check out and were told that the room is due for renovation in around six months. In the meantime it seems they are happy to continue selling these rooms.

This is a nice hotel, although quite dated. The heating in the room took sometime to warm it up & the hot water wasn't very hot. Also I asked for a quiet room but was given a room next to the roadside which was quite noisy. The gym facility is good; but I cannot comment on the spa as I didn't use it. My meal in the restaurant was very good & the bar is quite nice & cosy.

Roman lovely & spacious. Comfortable beds & bedding, room was cold but we managed to warm it up. Staff were friendly. Bathroom & furniture was a bit shabby & no shower gel in the dispensers. Would stay again though despite these things.

Room was old and in need of updating. Sound proofing no existent and we could here everything in rooms either side. No internet and poor evening meal. On the upside great cooled breakfast.

I previously stayed at this place several months ago and had a terrible time principally because there was poor internet. This time not only did I get great internet but I had a wonderful room. I recommend the top floor. I was in 365. Comfy bed, huge bathtub, space heater on demand although once I got it functioning the room heating was excellent. I stayed there this time because everything as booked up. A side note: the previous night I had stayed at the Royal Forester in Ascot. The rooms are nothing special but if you get a breakfast package, you get a feast of unbelievable choices included.

Had stayed here a few days. Foyer and exterior on arrival is excellent. Rooms felt very tired and dated. TV didn’t work ;was reported and the staff couldn’t get it fixed either……. No channels). Breakfast service was pleasant enough. Nice setting. Just felt like it had been warned from the day before (sausages and bacon). Cheese looked like it had been left out too long and was crying out for help. - bed was comfortable enough, and had a good sleep. - Staff were very friendly and all clearly did the best they could within their control. - Spa was clearly having maintenance, so couldn’t use showers or mens dressing room. Pool was pleasant enough, my limited on this visit

Beautiful hotel and facilities. However, was kept waiting 10 & 15 minutes respectfully on both occasions I visited reception. There wasn't a queue, it just wasn't manned at peak evening times which I thought strange. 2 male members of staff entered our room unannounced whilst my partner (a female) was getting dressed, prior to the 11am cutoff. Outrageous.

We went for my grand daughters 2nd birthday and chose this as close to London with grounds for dog walking and a nice pool. Would have been much improved if the check in had been friendlier (don't be early!) and more considerate of the struggles to get a toddler and a dog and all our luggage along miles of corridors which were not buggy friendly (even to get to the lift involved stairs). No one bothered to say we could have driven the car to within a few feet to unload and park! General feeling was of being at a conference centre. Room a bit run down, decrepit put you up bed for our toddler, not a child friendly room - every surface had a glass sheet that could be dragged off, the wardrobe was missing a sliding door and our little one pulled the ironing board onto herself because the wardrobe was fully open. We stayed two nights but the room was not serviced on the day between (we stayed out until 4 to allow for this) so we had wet towels and no tea bags or loo roll by the middle of Saturday night. The pool area is great with family swimming 9-11 and 4-7. Nice but expensive supper in the bar area which felt more child friendly than the restaurant (btw fish 'goujon's are not fish fingers) and for families you can't walk from here to anywhere else so car rides to eat out are essential. Staff were lovely to the baby but otherwise disinterested in the guests and whole place feels very understaffed - only one guy on reception all weekend day and night?

The service was poor. Extremely long wait at lunchtime - from getting the menu to actually getting the food. The whole experience took over 2 hours! Seemed short-staffed as waiters scrambled and seemed a bit disorganized. Found eggshells in my fried egg at breakfast, asked for a cup of hot water and that’s exactly what I got - a cup of hot water with no saucer or teaspoon. The carpet smelled musty in the hallways and the gentleman who checked me in made no eye contact the entire time and came across as unfriendly & unprofessional. For a 4-star hotel, I was extremely disappointed, as were my 4 other friends who stayed there.

I’m afraid this was totally disappointing. The room upgrade arranged in advance wasn’t done to accommodate our son, meaning we had to move from one room to the other. The mattress was knackered and they failed to change it after two requests. We intended to stay two nights but in the end left after one after my partner and I failed to get any sleep. I wasn’t charged for the second night and intend on ensuring we get a refund for the first night via the hotel or through a chargeback via our credit card.

Have stayed here before. It's ok, and they have the indoor pool and sauna/steam room etc. Check-in wasn't so welcoming, with a stern welcome and being informed we were too early. But a quick call found a room available - but a £30 charge to go and leave our bags in there. This despite the room already being ready. We only wanted to drop the bags in as we were off to see family. How not to welcome people, we said to each other. Room was ok. Spa ok, but always seems to be a bit tired. Breakfast is adequate and the hotel bar has Peroni on draft. Usual question - would we stay here again? It's a yes, but only if we want a steam room to use. Their £30 charge to put a bag in an empty room might cost them.

Great stay, returning in a few months. Hotel is a mix of renovated and non renovated rooms in a historic or 1970’s style building. Staff are wonderful, especially restaurant staff.

Great place. I was surprised with condition well-maintained inside and out. Lovely leisure facilities. Good for Solos and travelling with dog. Beautiful small foresty bit. Not much in the village. Food was not up my street and pricey. Staff were good on whole. Pleasant stay recommend, may visit again.

Perfect location for the races and great to have free parking. Fine for one nights stay, you get what you pay for, had everything we needed for the night in a basic double room. Bit grubby and dated, pool area was a bit run down. Corridors are very loud and noisy, not really the hotel's fault, but the doors don't help to stop noise coming in. Shame because the hotel and grounds look lovely and it was probably a really expensive plush hotel back in the day.

Nice building and spacious room. Bathroom tired and basic. Fire alarm went off late one evening and in the morning. Breakfast was nice but the staff were clearly not a well oiled machine. Asked for tea and coffee three times and they kept forgetting. Parking was also not easy. We did not use the spa facilities.

Prices were high due to it being Royal Ascot it was hot and we had no aircon .. apparently none were working on our floor ! No hot water in shower .. sink waste not working so had to run water to wash etc ! Breakfast was not great and only filter coffee included anything else was extra !

Annoying to be charged extra for an other than filtered coffee / why not charge 1-2GBP extra in the breakfast at the booking stage and offer any coffee ?? Hotel is tired and in my opinion for the rate needs an upgrade to the rooms

Enjoyed the stay although late arrival at 8pm meant to late for restaurant after a long day doing London-Essex 100mile bike ride was very disappointing. Restaurant at breakfast very busy and understaffed.

Enjoyable stay breakfast was sorted for me as a coeliac I worry about cross contamination at a buffet breakfast but the staff cooked me some bacon separately and I had GF bread, shame the evening menu was gluten all the way!!

Had stayed here a few days. Foyer and exterior on arrival is excellent. Rooms felt very tired and dated. TV didn’t work ;was reported and the staff couldn’t get it fixed either……. No channels). Breakfast service was pleasant enough. Nice setting. Just felt like it had been warned from the day before (sausages and bacon). Cheese looked like it had been left out too long and was crying out for help. - bed was comfortable enough, and had a good sleep. - Staff were very friendly and all clearly did the best they could within their control. - Spa was clearly having maintenance, so couldn’t use showers or mens dressing room. Pool was pleasant enough, my limited on this visit

The website photos presented a more luxurious hotel than our experience. What attracted us to book was that it is advertised as a hotel with a spa, and we were most looking forward to the small heated outdoor pool. Unfortunately it wasn't clear when we booked that on Boxing the pool/sauna/steam room closed at 6pm, so as we couldn't arrive until after 6pm, we could only use the spa facilities the next morning for a short time. Also disappointedly, the outdoor pool was broken over Christmas, which made this a very ordinary spa experience. The salt room also wasn't working. Our deluxe double room was comfortable, but it and the corridors could do with a little TLC. The carpet and curtains seem dated, and the woodwork paint was a bit worn. Our fridge didn't work. Breakfast was poor for a 4 star hotel, in terms of variety and quality. On the plus side, all the staff were excellent, and the hotel was very clean. Our room's bathroom has been modernised, unlike the room itself. So all in all, it was an OK stay but the hotel is not really as the image it projects itself to be.

Food was Fantastic Spa was really disappointing - very old / mould in areas / way too busy as let non residents in / just very dated and should not be advertised as a spa in this day & age

We had a superior room - and i was surprised it only had a double bed. This was the biggest issue along with the "air con" wasn't effective at all- i'd even rang the hotel in advance to see if there was aircon and was told yes. We had a vent into the room but the room stat couldn't be changed and there was no discernible flow of air! And the windows could barely be opened and they weren't near the bed anyway. Also if i'm being more critical then there were no plug sockets by the bedside tables The floor was so creaky and noisy and the bar lacked an atmosphere. Just poor all round really which is such a shame given the lovely area it's in.

Staff were very rude. The AC wasn’t working in our room and it took many efforts to change rooms, staff were keen to hang up on calls so eventually got a new room with AC after going to reception. Breakfast used to be great but food was poor and you have to pay extra for a coffee which isn’t instant. Booked a massage too which was great, but staff were keen to say we couldn’t use the pool despite us being guests and paying for a treatment. We got married here over 10 years ago and have visited often, but we’ll be in no rush to return.

The swimming pool smelled strongly of urine, making it unpleasant to use. The breakfast was awful—most of it was barely edible, with very poor quality food and very little choice. Overall, the hotel did not match the standard we expected, and we would not recommend staying here.

We stayed here whenever we go to Ascot or Wentworth. The hotel facilities are great and the food is always great. The hotel is busy and sometimes this reflects on the buffet breakfast. This will remain our first choice every time we are in the area.
