The rooms are huge with high ceilings and big bathroom. But parking is $20 a day and the rooms smelt bad like Indian. Close to shops tho but all closed by 4;30pm

The back entrance to the property was dirty and revolting. The hallways were unclean towards the main desk. Staff were friendly. The room smelt of stale smoke and was not welcoming. Corridors had no air movement and weren’t pleasant smelling. Holes in doors, torn carpet. The elevator needs repairing and the staircase was unclean, smelt awful.

The property was clean enough, but looked like it needs a refresh. There is limited on site parking which was difficult to get in and out of. But the strangest thing was they lock the doors to the parking at 10 pm and do not open them until 7 am.

Hard to find-GPS vectored to rear entrance no obvious signage. Had to park and walk to locate street entrance=- again not well signed at street level with old hotel name at the door.Confusing.Old hotel which is fine but rundown.Rooms very spacious.No TV,radio or chairs to sit down.Bathroom good with adequate amenities and good hairdrier.Clean fluffy towels.Bed comfortable and clean sheets .Only encountered one staff member -receptionist-who was very pleasant .Paid $20 surcharge for parking but no hotel parks available and parking area filthy and difficult to manouvre in ridiculous tight spaces and tight turns for entry and exit.Fit only for a fiat bambina size vehicle. Parked across the road in Wilson park-safe and clean- also cheaper.Only $15.00 .Hotel did refund our $20.00 fee.Location very convenient and loads of restaurants nearby.Suited our purpose for one night and very reasonable.

The front desk staff was rude and unhelpful. Parking cost $20 but no acces to your vehicle between 10pm-7am. No housekeeping in our 2 day stay. Back entrance was a dump and put us off immediately. Bar and restaurant never opened. The only blessings were tall ceilings and location.

Broken toilet and mould in the bathroom tiles. Despite being in a central location, the accommodation was poorly managed. Parking is “first come, first served” regardless of how far in advance you book, which shows a lack of organisation. Guests should be able to reserve parking with their room. The nearest paid parking is a 5-minute walk away, which made this a terrible choice, especially on a rainy day. If you’re driving, look elsewhere. And if you care about a clean, well-maintained bathroom, this isn’t the place for you.

I liked my room 113. It was large. The body wash container was empty unfortunately, and there was an old stiff used face flannel hanging off the shower head. But apart from that my stay was ok

Second time staying here and my husband and I got to use the exact same room we wanted at request which was great. The facilities are quite basic but it's value for money if you're mostly planning to go out to the nearby shops, restaurants, the casino or other places in Hamilton CBD and then want a lovely bed to sleep and relax in later. It could use a bit of a better cleaning service as we noticed a lot of built up dust behind the bedside tables but otherwise the sheets, bathroom & towels were all lovely & definitely sanitary. The decor of the VR is also quite beautiful with the high ceilings & color pallete. Thanks again for another wonderful stay.

We liked the size of the room We didn't like that the property as a whole was old and tired and things were worn, eg. windowsills were rotting, the stair rails had been fixed with bits of metal The toilet broke during the night, fortunately my husband is hand and managed to fix it but found it had previously been repaired with wire which had rusted. The room smelt damp. The reception staff were polite but not really welcoming, seemed a little disinterested. We had asked for a late checkout but then found we'd been locked out of our room when we got back after breakfast The location was handy so we could walk to places to eat.

The rooms are tidy and a generous size. Location is great and we did expect a level of noise being right in the CBD but it was incredibly noisy and we barely got any sleep. We heard fights outside on the road in the wee hours of the morning. Such a shame because the hotel and facilities are nice and great for the price, shame Hamilton a night is so feral.

The "Superior Queen" room was two mattresses pushed together, which meant a couple couldn't sleep together in the middle of the bed , but instead had to sleep separately on each side of the crack between the 2 mattresses. We were also told there was a dining room to have breakfast, but there was not. There was not booklet in the room regarding the hotel and its services or what was available, along with safety instructions in case of emergency. No ice available, rail in bathroom fell down when you tried to take the towel off. Shampoowas supposed to be conditioning but left my hair in a tangle. Booked and paid for 2 nights but only stayed the 1 night. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone i know.

Overall value for money and location right in the heart of the main street. We had a a room at that was not road frontage so was quiet. Friends a had a room facing the main street and was noisy being a Saturday night. Would stay again

Great location, huge rooms, restaurant on site. Staff could work on their communication skills, and the website info bot needs to be more accurate with the info it provides, just saying there is parking available on a first come first served basis but neglecting to mention the $20 a night charge is very misleading! The main and BIG complaint is noise, both from the street and also from neighbouring rooms, there is NO soundproofing! You get to hear the TV from the room next door all night and the yahooing from the street outside, don't plan on sleeping!

Room was spacious, and bed was completely clean. Curtains were thick enough that light didnt come through in the mornings and for the most part, little to no noise could be heard. Bathroom overall was also quite spacious. Only gripe would be that the bathroom is unusually high for me being such a short person. Otherwise, beautifully priced and very happy overall.

I It was okay nothing out if the ordinary, basically just another hotel. Not happy about the fact nowhere meantioned a bond payment which left my partner and I without the ability to do anything for our 2 night stay! Will not be back

The staff member that greeted us on arrival was rather abrupt and unfriendly. The room was good. There was a note in the bathroom about it being slippery and we were very careful but I think providing a mat or a couple of bath mats would have helped. Particularly after a shower the entire floor was wet.

The front staff member was very sexist and didn’t understand how a bond worked. He stated that my wife needed her husband as woman can’t park in their car park. He said the $150 bond would only have $130 returned in check out. Terrible!

Toilet had to holc the flush button up to fill. Room heating did not work. Shower all of a sudden went to what felt like boiling. Did that 3 times over 2 showers. The staff are rude. She doesn't acknowledge you when your standing in front of the counter. Not even a with you in a second. Just ignored me and everyone else until she is ready. Could be 2 -5 minutes she does not care. At checkout to get your bond back. You need to get your room checked and refunded manually back to your credit card. Which is fine. But i had to chase down another lady checking out that dropped her key card and left. The hotel lady took her key but said nothing. The lady checking out would have lost her bond. Its clearly a hotel with tricks to get extra money out of you.

Parking at the property, although an additional cost is convenient. VR is a budget hotel with the old charm of it's era, and is situated centrally in the retail area of Hamilton city.

The best thing about this hotel is its location...right in the thick of it within Hamilton's CBD. It's so close to the restaurants, casino, museum and river. Had a great lunch down by the river at Madam Woos. Yes, the hotel is a past its prime but the rooms are spacious and ours was clean. The price also was great compared to other hotels in the vicinity. There is no parking at the hotel when we were there, so we parked on the street, a Wilson's carpark facility is nearby for those who would prefer a more secure parking option.
