The White Hart

We were doing some agricultural work in Henley and needed somewhere functional to stay for one night over the weekend. There was plenty of parking which is a big tick for us, especially as it felt it was safe enough to leave a lot of gardening kit in one of our cars overnight. The pub itself has been done up very well, tastefully with character, and with a nice outside seating area at the back, great for groups of friends. It was a very hot night so we had to have all our windows open to get air through, but the pub is just off a main through road so we could hear the traffic in the morning. The room itself was nice but we had low eaves in ours which we were advised about at reception on arrival. We had a bath, no shower, which suited us, but the pipework is a bit wobbly, and there was nowhere to put the soap as it was a roll top bathtub. Small things but… However, it was all very clean and our bed was comfortable. Our door lock was fiddly to open from outside. Breakfast was delicious, great full English and perfect poached eggs. The staff were helpful and friendly. Four stars from us because of the traffic and the eaves.

We had a lovely 2 night stay here, really nice room with tea coffee & biscuits, very spacious bathroom with good storage space. It’s a great olde worlde pub with lots of atmosphere & a nice outdoor seating area too & only 10 minutes drive from Henley on Thames. The food was very good, home cooked with a great choice, breakfast was excellent, hot & tasty, couldn’t fault it at all. The staff were all very friendly & welcoming, always smiling. We would like to say thank you to Rachel for her great hospitality and a very special thank you to Jeremiah who from checking us in when we arrived couldn’t do enough to help & advise us. He really went above & beyond. Overall a very enjoyable stay, would highly recommend staying here.

Nice room, separate from the pub. Room was tired and needed a more thorough clean-lots of rubbish under the bed and bedspread had some suspicious stains on it. Staff were really friendly and kind, breakfast was really nice but quite small! Lots of parking available!

The next morning we asked at reception and luckily we were able to move rooms and were allocated room Spearmint. This room was lovely, overlooked the car park and the beer garden area. There’s no air con but a pedestal fan is provided. Room was clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant are both excellent, the food quality is superb. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again but definitely not in room Pistachio.

Lovely old pub with lots of character. Friendly staff and well lit car park. Great breakfast included. Only slight problem with traffic noise as our room faced the road.

Great property, good food, good beers, great staff. Place was very sympathetically renovated a few years ago, but now needs a bit of attention. Not much, but some very cracked and peeling paint, delaminating plywood under the gutters etc etc. Would make all the difference if those sort of odd jobs were taken care of.

Large attractive room with comfortable bed, well appointed but being an older building could do with some maintenance. We slept well and enjoyed dinner and breakfast. Staff are friendly, some are very laid back. Parking was easy. Internet worked well. We would stay again.

Room was clean and comfortable, had the added bonus of an outside patio area which was ideal for our dog. Due to the loss of the door key (months) the patio area needs some much needed tlc as key had only been located. The outside garden area also could do with some updating and just a general tidy. Staff were lovely and welcoming and the food was very good so ate there on both Evenings. Location was good as a 2min walk to bus stop then a 15min bus journey to Henley-on-Thames. As next to the main A road it can be busy and this cause traffic noise.

We really enjoyed our stay in this classic old English hotel. Staff and complimentary breakfast are great as is the dining options. Good safe parking also available

This is a lovely pub with rooms. There is a reception. Breakfast was adequate. Parking good. Our room was a little basic, great rain shower but small wardrobe. We fronted the street.

Nice team. A few things in the room (Room 6) need fixing. Taps, and the shower head and extractor were very grubby. Staff were very friendly.

Uneven paths to get to room through scruffy corridors finally to the room. Bed sheets and towels excellent but curtains hanging off rail. Shower excellent but bath taps didn’t work so no chance of bath. The room was also on the main road so continuous traffic noise A long way outside to get to breakfast but food excellent although having to get own tea and coffee not good.

Three night stay. Comfortable room and bed. Daily housekeeping service and high standards of cleanliness. Could do with coat of paint on sills and below shower but otherwise good. Excellent timing for breakfasts 7 (or 8.30 at weekends) to 10.30 so visitors can feel relaxed. Wide breakfast choices.

A lovely old and quirky inn! The food was lovely and the room spacious and comfortable. The room had the most incredible roll-top bath and the bed was huge. It was quite warm but fans were provided. I had a couple of problems which I tried to email using the address provided in the room, but it is not available. 1) the Saniflow toilet had a problem and would make a grinding noise every 20 minutes through the night making for a very disturbed sleep. 2) the drencher shower head was so blocked with limescale that hardly any water came out As these are fixable problems it certainly wouldn’t stop me from visiting again.

Lovely staff, very helpful. Nice room, walkable to a petrol station shop, easy to park, good food, warm room with working radiators and a fan if too warm. Only thing was the bath had a lot of yellow scale on the inside base by the plug to the point of it being off putting to use. There was however a shower so not a real problem. Maybe ithe bath needs replacing now, otherwise, a lovely stay.

Staff were very nice, very clean hotel room and a very enjoyable environment in the restaurant.

Delightful airy room, Muscat, upstairs. We've been a few times Good food.

Property was listed as ‘superior double’, yet the room given was basic, with no chairs/sofas as advertised in the photos. TV was wonky and wallpaper was peeling off of the walls. The saviour was breakfast as that was lovely, but the room was definitely not as advertised in the images on the website for the quality of the room.

There was a very cosy feel to the hotel and the room. Breakfast was great, with lots of variety and staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the pub on the first night and the meals were delicious. The room was fairly comfortable but it could do with some updating/replacing of items. The mattress was past it's best (resulting in an uncomfortable sleep on the first night) and the taps were loose, with drainage not working great. However we'd certainly return again.

Nice cosy pub hotel. Easy free parking, nice staff, good room/bathroom and food. Unfortunately let down by a roadside room which was very noisy with traffic. Glazing in the room isn't modern so doesn't block out the noise. Woken up at 5am by a car driving past with a straight-through exhaust, then constrant loud traffic noise from that time onwards. Wi-Fi in room also kept dropping out.

Staff were all welcoming and attentive. Good sized rooms and ensuites. Although the rooms and public area were all freshly decorated, the corridors leading to the bedrooms looked tired and in need of some TLC. Cooked breakfasts were good but only a limited choice of cereals and bread for toasting.

Stayed 4 nights while catching up with family members staying nearby. Comfortable and friendly, good breakfast choices and flexible times. Glad there wasn't a heatwave as it would probably get quite hot - it's old so not air-conditioned and the room was under the eaves. Convenient for Henley, Wallingford and walks in Cotswold AONB, Ridgeway etc. Pretty area. Brakspears beer very tasty.

The pub itself is very good. Food and service excellent. Our room was very tired and inneedof updating. The worse thing was the bed, which had a coil sprung mattress which was one of the most uncomfortable we have ever slept on. We were offered a room change for the second night, but it was Christmas day and we had to travel into Henley for the day so couldn’t wait long enough for a room to be ready for us. In addition, we had originally been told we would have a ground floor room - ideal as we were bringing our dachshund, who cannot walk down a long flight of stairs. We were put in an upstairs room with an external fight if metal stairs. The non slip surface was in a poor state of repair snd the stairs were slippery. Not ideal in any scenario, but very hazardous carrying an 12kg dog!

The room was extremely spacious and had some character to it spoiled a little with painted beams but thats ultra critical. The water ran out so we couldnt have a hot shower one evening, even tho there didnt seem to be lots of guests. But we thought overall it was good value, the staff in the restaurant and bar were very good and the breakfasts and evening meal we had were excellent.

Could not check in at the time stated. Very inexperienced staff, Room was dark and dingy. Unsafe very dimly lit narrow stairs leading to room, loose door handle on inside of bedroom door. Bed room toilet very difficult to flush. Bed very uncomfortable. Food over cooked and dry. Bar prices extortionate. Returns to hotel at 11.30 pm to find it all locked up, Our Key did not fit the entrance door. After spending 3 hours trying to gain entry by ringing hotel line, no answer, banging on doors trying to wake someone eventually found a tiny side door that was hidden away behind a gate was open . Eventually got to Our room at 2.30am. Not impressed at all! Looking for a refund!

Staff were very friendly and accomodating for our stay, even allowing us to check in slightly earlier than normal as we had a wedding to get to. Room was very clean and had everything we could have needed. Would recommend!

The bedroom we were given was not the same as any on the booking site. It was small and dark with an old discoloured wardrobe. No where to sit other than dressing table chair. We were directly on a main road that was noisy day and night. We had a small window that had to be open because of the heat and a small roof window in the bathroom. Constant noise from the bar and restaurant below us. The staff were casually dressed, t shirts and jeans. All young and not-in the slightest bit interested in a good morning, how’s your stay etc. lots of boyish tomfoolery and girly chit chat, the customers had to go to the bar for extra plates, cutlery, dessert menus etc. it was more like a self service accommodation. We ordered a cheese board and got just that. No butter, no plates, no cutlery. We had to ask. I ordered a chicken and ham pie meal that was served with beef gravy. Lots of things that need attention. We returned to our room on the Sunday and our clean bathroom towels were thrown on the bed in a heap. There was no visitor information available of where to go and see. I asked the young girl on reception and she just shrugged her shoulders and said no we don’t have anything. I stood and waited for any suggestions and she looked at me. On day three we were asked if we were staying there! We had booked our last minute get away after loosing my mum after a traumatic four weeks. We spent a lot of money there and came home still exhausted. Not a good memory for us. Very disappointed.

Very good for a 2 night stay for a couple. Free parking and a good breakfast included. There was a bit of traffic noise with the windows open, but was dead quiet by the time we went to bed. Very friendly and attentive service

Lovely room, comfortable stay. However, it was a little bit noisy in the morning as my room was right by the A-road, but it was ok in the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel starting to be a little dated especially bathroom, service is a little hit or miss as some staff seem a little uninterested at times

Our stay here was lovely, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food in the bar and restaurant was amazing for both Dinner and Breakfast! Our room was nice, but we had a room right next to the main road through the village. So if you haven’t got ear plugs, getting a good nights sleep will not be possible. Especially with the cars not abiding by the 20mph speed limit! Not to mention the few hundred motorbikes that went past! But with that in mind, I would definitely recommend this hotel, just ask for a room away from the road! 😅

Great place for a short stay, friendly efficient staff, good menu in the restaurant and very reasonable prices. Handy for exploring the surrounding countryside and visiting places like Henley and Marlow on the Thames.

Our stay has been lovely. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. Dinner was very good. A lovely place to stay to visit Henley and Windsor and also the Cotswolds

We can only give 2* rating for our stay. 1 for location and 1 for the breakfast. Due to the pub / hotel being located on a busy main road and the room we stayed in being positioned at the front, the noise of the road was horrendous!! The room was stifling as the room we had was south facing and because the blinds hadn’t been pulled sleeping in that heat was horrendous. Unfortunately we will not be going back. The only positive was that it was located very close to Henley.

Lovely country pub/hotel a short distance from Henley. Really nice appearance, inside and out, with friendly, efficient staff. Our room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. Although we didn't eat there in the evening, the restaurant was clearly popular with locals and visitors alike. Breakfast in the morning was lovely. Checking in and out was quick and easy.

We stayed for 2 nights around a day spent at Reading Festival, just 10 miles away. The rooms are mainly external to the hotel which was good for coming back after midnight from Reading. The bar food and drink was great and we enjoyed excellent breakfasts. We would certainly use the White Hart again

The welcome was very friendly as was the Service. The room was sizeable with plenty of space and some nice unique decor. There were a couple of areas that need a little maintenance and just a dab of paint to tidy up here and there. Location was ideal for us although it is located next to a fairly busy road if road traffic is something that annoys you. Overall, for us, it was a pleasant stay for what we were looking for.

Fantastic evening meal - South African themed menu, rather unusual dishes. Excellent cooking. Very professional staff. Highly recommended

Breakfast. Eggs overcooked (not runny) mushrooms could have benefited from another 5 minutes in the pan.

Very clean and attractive. Lovely room but not very practical for us. Very comfy bed. Restaurant (dinner) a bit disappointing and quite expensive for the quality. Lovely building. Thankyou.
