Church Street Hotel by Belvilla near Kings College Hospital

No one stated clearly that this property is a walk up. There is no elevator and guests I'm sure are carrying several pounds of luggage. If you don't have an elevator - at the very least - you should have an employee available to help carry things upstairs. I also complained about the lack of A/C and was told by messaging that they can't do anything about that. Note that this was the summer, and lack of A/C is unacceptable. I would never stay here again, terrible location, VERY old property, and a bit creepy with all the random art everywhere. I didn't know in advance this was a self check in type of place - don't advertise as a hotel, this should be advertised like an airbnb or something. Random foreign people claiming to be part of the staff - they had no label or indication that they work there...definitely a lack of professionalism. Also I asked to leave my luggage somewhere safe after check out, and they took my bags and put them in what looked like the kitchen. No lock, no safety, no idea or clue if my things are in tact or safe. Just ridiculous - NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN - BUYER BEWARE!

None of the amenities such as aircon. Or the photos of the bar area/ restaurant even existed. Parking was additional cost and a good walk away from the property. How would you even know where to park without first arriving at the property and illegally parking somewhere on a main road. No coffee or water in the room. No glasses even. Just for some water. Really disappointed with this compared to the price and photos and amenities shown on on hotels.com. I’m a gold member and travel a lot. This is the first time I’ve been properly disappointed with the result.

The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. And I wish I would have known there is no lift and I would have to carry our bags up 3 flights of of stairs.

Told there was no onsite parking on arrival and there was a secure carpark 5 minutes down the road. Wasnt secure at all! Then hit with damage waivers of £50 per room which will get refunded between 5 to 10 days.

Super clean with an interesting theme to the hotel making the stay extra special. The tight and steep stairs may not be suitable for some guests, but they were fine for me. Especially like the lounge with self serve honesty bar that thankfully had non-alcoholic beer. While not tube stop is near by, it's an easy bus ride to Vauxhall station and beyond.

Great hotel, comfy, warm and friendly only down was couldn’t find the off site car park

There’s no elevators, we struggled to take our heavy luggage’s to the 4th floor. The stairs are so narrow. This was not stated on the website that the hotel have no elevators if you have disabilities please book another hotel because the receptionist won’t likely help you to change to a ground floor room.

Nice little boutique place - simple but comfortable rooms. Basic breakfast which I didn’t really bother with, but seemed nice enough. Shared bathroom between three rooms but wasn’t an issue. Can’t argue given the good location and the fact it was half the price of a Premier Inn. Will definitely use again next year.

It says it has a bar and restaurant, however it is a lounge that is on the honor system that you can make a drink you have no idea how much you were being charged and you fill out a card and they add it to your bill. The only food that is served is in the morning for breakfast and it is bread, eggs, and a few other things the same thing every day a continental breakfast no other food I would not call this a restaurant, nor would I call this a bar.

Do not stay here. The hotel has been taken over. Stayed here for years and was a good hotel, but the new owners have not maintained the place and is filthy, with shower that don't work, door handles thar come off in your hand. Avoid staying here.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my mom. The room was no frills, but clean and comfy

I needed a hotel near to King's Hospital so I booked this one as it was the cheapest and the closest. There were lots of stairs up to my room and the hotel is a rabbit warren. The room code I was sent on WhatsApp was 6 digits. It was wrong and I had to walk down 4 flights of stairs to speak to the receptionist to get the correct 4 digit code. The shower could've done with a clean. I appreciated the towels and bed linen were clean. The decor is even more garish than the pictures convey. Lots of religious iconography abound. It did what I wanted it to do, but it's the worst hotel I've stayed in for at least 20 years.

Excellent value for money and very clean and comfortable.

Toilet handle broken, shower clogged with hair, tv wouldn’t turn off, litter under the bed, fan switch broken, light broken, sink blocked and had to unplug it myself, parking is about half a mile away and requires a code (not specified online) also a £50 deposit is taken on arrival, again not specified online

Toilet was terrible. It was dirty and was not cleaned so we ended up using the one near the lounge area which was 2 floors down from our room. The whole place was dark as well, not enough lightings in the hallways and inside the room.

No housekeeping even with the please clean tag on the door for 2 days.

Solid hotel for a short stay. Located conveniently for bus service to Westminster and the other tourist areas. Unfortunately, the shower in my room only ran cold water, which is inconvenient.

Great price, super clean room and shared bathroom with nice toiletries. Weird decor inside seems to be going for kitsch on a budget. Loud carpets and medieval-style doors, not really my thing. Room was too hot with no fan or air con and very noisy, being on Camberwell's main street. Was given a code to enter late but I deleted it from my phone. No late receptionist on duty, presumably to save money. So had to call a number and it took ages for them to figure out how to open the door.

We didn’t even stay in the end. We were in the room for 5 minutes and immediately booked another hotel. It was 31 degrees outside so was obviously going to be hot but no air con was a problem. The fan provided could barely blow air it was useless. The code given for the front door was wrong so thankfully some people were leaving who let us in. Our room was up 5 flights of stairs and was a maze to find. Our window opened an inch and faced a wall 20cm away so no air getting in. The bathroom was dirty and the shower couldn’t get cold it was either hot or hotter which isn’t ideal in the winter. We sat on the bed to book another hotel and you could feel every spring. It was just an awful experience from start to finish.

The hotel is on a fantastic public transport route and has lots of great cafes and restaurants nearby; however, the road outside can be noisy during the night and in the early mornings. The staff were very friendly and helpful, provided me with all of the information I needed at check-in and also helped me with some bus travel routes. I had a single room with a shared bathroom. The room was small, but well laid out with everything I needed. However, the bed was really quite uncomfortable - the wrought iron bedframe squeaked with every slight movement I made and I could feel the springs through the mattress - it seemed like a case of style over comfort (and in a hotel I much prefer comfort!) The shared bathroom was just opposite my room. It was fine - although there was quite a wait for it a couple of mornings! As a single female traveller, something that bothered me slightly was not having a peephole in my room door - I would have like to quickly check the corridor before I went out to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It's not a big deal, but I was aware of it. Another thing is that with several rooms having shared bathrooms, it can get a bit noisy with room doors being opened/closed during the night. The rooms all have heavy yale-style locks that 'clunk' closed quite loudly. If you are a light sleeper - bring ear plugs! Overall, the hotel has a great look and feel and a nice location - but not super comfortable.

Good hotel, single room at the top of hotel, very hot room had to sleep with window open and top of bed but wasn’t an issue. Breakfast ok nice whole meal bread and cereal, but had run out of certain items. £8 a bit pricey. Bonus on 36 bus route which is 24hrs.

Decent for the price. Staff was nice, easy to find, and about an hour walk to main tourist attractions. However, we were on the attic floor and it was so hot, like walking into a wall of heat as soon as you hit the top stair. Also, there is no safe, very minimal hanging space, and one of the lights by the bed didn’t work. We also got one full size pillow for a stay with 2 adults and there was no staff at the desk in the evening to ask for another quickly.

Ignore the inflated positive rating this hotel enjoys from before it changed management. Have been to this hotel twice before and it was always great value for money. This most recent time it had really degraded in value, however, presumably because of new management. There is a fully automated system for checking in now which means that if you arrive, like us, on a sunday or in the evening there might be no one to help check you in. Despite it being a challenge to find a member of staff when we needed help, someone immediately found us when we stepped into the breakfast room (they have cameras watching you) to tell us we had to pay. Charming. Of course that person did not stay to help make coffee for the hotel guests as someone used to do. The dining area is terrible compared to what it used to be. Same price (maybe more?) with a quarter of the options. The rooms were less clean, bedding was nasty. All in all a really disappointing experience. Lost a good hotel.

Overall a nice stay, I wasn’t able to check in until late so they allowed me to drop my bag off earlier. The self check in process is easy although I was given the incorrect code for the front door but another guest kindly let me in. I booked the standard room, the bed was nice although mattress was a little too soft for me but that’s just personal preference. The room is a little tight with space but ok just for one person. The room had an en-suite which was nice. I didn’t try the breakfast however I did try the coffee and it was lovely, you make it yourself by grinding the beans, nice little extra touch. I can’t comment on all facilities but I can see why this hotel has good reviews. I enjoyed my stay and I would book again.

So very very disappointed with way we are being treated. Hotel cancelled our booking 4hrs before checking, saying Full refund granted. Now hotel say we didnt turn up so have to pay. Noway cam i recommend this hotel, what should of been a lovely weekend in London, turned out to be so stress full. We always try to stay in independent small hotels, keeps them going.NOT THIS ONE. HOTELS.COM you need to help.

Very nice staff , especially the male staff Nefi, he helped us to move our luggages to our room and down to the lobby, and the other staff also is helpful although the room is not that perfect, our mounted heater not working but they offered us another mobile one. And the location is perfect, many buses to central London and railway station.

For a budget hotel this is pretty decent. The shared bathroom would put people off but I never found it an issue. You have sink in your own room, a shared breakfast area and even an honesty bar. Bit of a hike back to the tube but there are plenty of local buses that pass right outside the door

Stayed here as my husband was having a medical procedure at Kings College Hospital. Perfect location, clean and friendly. Stayed two nights.

Our room is cozy, spacious and clean! Beddings are clean and crispy. Mattress is so soft and comfy. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Hearty and nutritious breakfast available every morning. The location is convenient. 7 stops by bus 436 or 36 from tube station (Oval), with loads of great pubs and restaurants in the neighbourhood. Not quite noisy at night even we slept with the window open. Totally safe and chill to take a walk at night. Easy to get around by buses. Will definitely stay there again next time we visit London! (Do bring your own slippers and toothbrush though)

Economical prices for close to centre of London.

Small boutique hotel. Decor seemed tired & located on a major road

Couldn't get past the bed from one side due to a shelf being in the way. 2 air con units in the room and neither actually cooled. The top window was wide open and we couldn't reach to shut it meaning it was noisy all night. We had hardly any toilet paper and no reception to ask for more. Breakfast was a choice of cereal, bread that had clearly just been defrosted in a microwave, a few slices of cheap supermarket ham and cheese triangles. We did see 2 staff as we left who didn't even acknowledge our 'goodbye'. Such hospitable hosts. Definitely the worst hotel we've stayed in in London.

Was shocked to find out what a great place this hotel was considering the price. Room was warm, clean, had a really comfortable bed and there was really nice lounge area where you could help yourself to filtered coffee. Really enjoyed the breakfast. Will always check to see if this place is available whenever in London from now on.

I book d this room for my parents and although it was lovely, when they got up on the Sunday morning there was no breakfast. I understood this was included in the price of the room.

Clean, great shower, quality towels and products eg L’Occitaine shower gel, soap and shampoo. Really enjoyed breakfast options and again quality choices. My only negative was that I found the mattress uncomfortable . Pillows were ok. Room warm enough.

Fabulous stay whilst attending an awards dinner in Westminster. Love this place. Great location, great rooms, very friendly staff andat a very reasonable price! Even got breakfast added on for £8. Thank you, Will be back.

Absolutely wonderful hotel. Lovely room , big bathroom, great decor. Breakfast was outstanding with plenty of choice. Great selection of teas, hot chocolate and coffee. Very friendly staff. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here. Brilliant price for location.

We booked this hotel based on it being featured in The Guardian .. but .. things have clearly changed since then. Check in for us was ok, except our room had been changed to a double bed, when we were expecting a triple which had been booked. Luckily our third person was unable to join us. After a discussion I was offered free breakfast. Some other people had arrived to be told there was a problem with the booking and they could go to Peckham! The hotel reception did not help them further by funding a taxi or giving clear information. The room - fine .. but not the cleanest. Wonky plug socket.. bulb not working in bedside light .. bathroom needed a deep clean. Breakfast .. DIY .. ok for us but not for others - especially those who wanted an early breakfast ( before 8am). Scant selection of bread, ham, cheese .. but nice yogurts and coffee. Nobody there to keep area clean and the bins were not emptied all week. We cleaned the sink. No drinks for the honesty bar. Hotel staff need to up their hospitality game or lose their reputation.

Quieter than expected, does need better windows. Quirky and quite funky decor. Decent bed. Pillows OK. Breakfast room the highlight probably and good quality ingredients in the continental breakfast (not included).
