Best Western Inn Santa Cruz

It was not a good stay! This hotel has been battling a water leak for years. We had to stay on the 2nd floor, I'm 68 yrs. so that meant carrying luggage up the stairs, no elevator that I knew of. The room had no soap, when I asked the hotel clerk for soap, he said they were out of soap. He found one small bar of soap, I asked for extra coffee and cups, he gave me coffee but no cups. I had to grab my own from the breakfast area. Then there was a homeless person coming into the lobby while we were checking in and she was looking for something. At breakfast time the same homeless person came into the breakfast area and started grabbing food, I'm happy that we had finished our breakfast because that homeless person was touching all the food items that others would be using later on. Bottom line... I will pay extra to stay at another hotel next time I'm in Santa Cruz. It's sad because we have stayed here many times in the past and we enjoyed our stays, but times change, and this hotel is changing for the worst. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone; they need to make some serious improvements.

The property was easy to get to and parking was abundant.

Staffs listen but failed to welcome cordially. Responds ok but cleaning lady can't speak English. Cleaning schedule also once in 3-4 days - Requested many times which is not convenient. Entering and Exiting premises very tight . Need sign clear. Noisy in the night and early morning.

there was nothing in particular I did not like. I like the hot breakfast altho you could get a better quality bread. the rooms were quiet from the adjoining traffic which I very much appreciated. the rooms were very clean as were the parking lot and common areas. the two staff people were friendly and helpful. a pool would have been terrific. very convenient location.

Parking situation is deplorable

Parking lot is extremely small, other guests were taking up 2 spots making it harder to park. The free breakfast isn’t available long enough, was told they were serving anymore and seen a few other guests walk out with plates. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was a bit small but not bad for a 1 night stay.

This place was average but for the price not that great; thought I’d pay a little more to get a nicer hotel but it was relatively average. The area of Santa Cruz is full of homeless people and becoming the next San Francisco. The walls are quite thin and the beds are super stiff and uncomfortable. Front desk was alright as they were training someone new. And if this property is full then good luck because there’s hardly any parking. That’s why their policy is one car per room. Other than that it was relatively average like I said. So don’t set your bar high coming here like I did. Because the pictures don’t paint the picture of reality.

Before you book this hotel, ask yourself what will you be doing in Santa Cruz. The room was very clean. The shower head was high enough for my 6'4" husband, and the water pressure was decent. The bed was a bit on the firm side, but not so hard that we were uncomfortable. The sink area was separate from the toilet and shower which is always nice However, there wasn't a towel rod by the sink, so the hand towel we were using had to be just laid on the counter. The floor of the bathtub wasn't slippery, but it also wasn't textured. There wasn't a grab bar in the tub/shower area, so I was very careful not to slip. The floor did get more slippery as soap and shampoo got on it. If you are planning a trip here to attend an event or explore the area, this is a great place to sleep, shower, and eat breakfast. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, though, this isn't the place at all. Some of the reviews mentioned problems with the parking lot being full, but we were there Wednesday-Saturday, and the hotel didn't appear to be full. Half of the rooms face the parking lot, and half of them face a strip of garden area and the back side of the next door hotel. There is no view of anything. Our room was closer to the street, and during the day the traffic noise was very loud At night it was quiet, but we weren't there in the middle of the summer It might be different then. The breakfasrt had the usual hot and cold choices. We would probably stay here again.

Our stay was good, it's a small hotel so all the parking is on one side of the hotel. We had a room on the back side so we had to carry our luggage around the building. But this is Santa Cruz and most hotels are on smaller size lots. Overall we would stay here again.

I had a very disappointing experience at the Best Western Inn. The bed sheets were dirty when we checked in, and when I asked the concierge to replace them, they handed me new sheets and expected me to change them myself! This was incredibly unprofessional and unacceptable. The breakfast was also underwhelming—very basic with limited options, nothing special at all. The location was okay, but don’t expect good service at this hotel. Overall, not worth the stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it

The carpets were very stained, the bedding was stained and the chairs were stained and tattered. The breakfast area in the lobby was clean and nice and the staff was friendly.

Overall stay was okay. I arrived to check-in too early. When i wanted to use the lobby bathroom staff was using it and took too long. With the room bathroom and other areas needed detail cleaning. It must be deep clean every time.

This place is filthy from the rooms to the bed. Beware. I tried to get my money back because i didn't stay. Had to chase down the manager and im still waiting for my money back. Was told it could take up to 15 days.

The WiFi wasn’t working properly

Sandwiched between to other motels, bright parking light on all night towards our window, overpriced, orange juice machine "out of order" for breakfast all morning, wifi working on and off, definitely shouldn't be rated excellent.

Easy parking, and staff was nice. You. Could hear every person that is staying I. The complex. Walls and door are thin, you can hear all the cars on the street. Bathroom outdated and room key kept deactivating. Overall decent stay. Not worth money they charge.

Tried this property looking for a cheap room while in town. Bed was uncomfortable, hot water wasn’t working in the shower, and mandatory checkout by 11am even though I was the only guest. Will look somewhere else next time I’m in town

It was loud at night with the freeway close by

The room itself was clean and worked, but there was constant noise from other people staying all night and would stand and chat loudly right outside our room at 2-3am. If staying, recommend going to the second floor.

Basic room. Food options were ok and the outside area was sketchy. Free parking and kitchen staff were great. Air conditioner was loud and made sleeping very difficult.

No TV !! And no WiFi!!

Super noisy area neighbors were up all night power went out because the breaker tripped and they couldn’t find the breaker no Internet

This property was clean and had a good rate but the customer service was not good. No one was at the desk when we wanted to check out at 9:30am. We waited for 20 minutes. We left the keys with housekeeping who did not know where the front desk staff were. I called later in the day and no one answered the phone and there was no option to leave a message. The phone just disconnected after ringing several times.

The variety of food/drinks during breakfast, easy check-in/check out and friendly staff.

The service was extremely extremely poor. To start off, during the check in, the gentleman at the front basically threw us our cards and it wasn’t until I called him out, did he apologize. Then on our third day stay, all of the lights were off basically all morning and it wasn’t until we went down to the lobby

We arrived Friday night & left Sunday morning. My husband woke up sick Saturday so our plans changed. I ended up shopping at Target & the Mall while he slept. The BW staff were understanding & gave us extra items we needed. Would highly recommend & we will be back.

No staff anywhere when i went to check in. Had to find another hotel to stay at because of this and they wouldn\'t refund my money because it "was past check-in"

There was nothing in particular that I liked. A very highly disliked the customer service. There were hidden fees and no staffing in the lobby in the morning. I was charged $100 which was put on hold in case something happened to the room. I was told I would get that $100 back when I checked out. When I finally checked out in the morning they told me 3 to 7 business days. When I went to check in they would not accept my AARP. The continental breakfast was not ready in the morning when it was supposed to be. I will never stay here again. I recommend others do the same.

The toilet kept running; the hair dryer and fridge were broken. Requested for housekeeping services but never were honored. I didn’t expect that. I have stayed at different Best Western Hotel locations before but the experience here was not the best

Staff was very helpful with everything

Stayed here last night, I will never be returning. Awful experience, rude staff and so loud you could hear everything, especially when anyone walked or knocked on a neighboring door. The area is filled with homeless people, I would not recommend this area, or this property. When I told them about my experience, they were completely dismissive and lied about their cancellation policy (I wanted to cancel my second night there so it went to waste). Save your money, go next door, or really anywhere else.

Close to UCSC

The location was very convenient to get onto Routes 1 and 17 and the road to Felton, where we were attending a wedding. It was also easy to get down to the waterfront in Santa Cruz from there. The hotel has old-fashioned key cards that kept getting wiped out by our phones and/or credit cards. We had to have them re-activated more than once.

Perfect stay if you’re visiting the Santa Cruz board walk! The rooms very updated and very clean! The staff was very friendly and helpful!

Key cards kept not working. Staff didn’t properly set up breakfast.

Bathroom fan was loud and needed to be replaced. TV had two remote controls which was confusing to get service. Tiny breakfast area dealing equally annoyed travelers having to navigate such a tiny space for an entire motel.

Nothing outstanding except friendly staff. Hot breakfast available but no syrup on day 1 and on day 2 no waffles, on both days out of most food options

The room was clean and comfortable. I liked the vinyl flooring instead of carpet. Great complimentary breakfast! Check in was a bit slow.

Breakfast had a good variety. The beds were comfortable. The towels were very thin, the soap provided wasn’t good.
