I am not sure where the hotel gets its rating from. The front desk staff is a tough one to call. One person was just angry every time we interacted, another was an angel, a third was indifferent. The physical property is far below a four star standard, but it is adequate overall. There is no parking associated with the hotel. Not even a place to pull you car into to drop your bags off or load them in when you are leaving. Staff was absolutely no help here. The only thing going for the hotel is its location. If you stay here, make sure it is at a steep discount.

Great hotel - lovely staff and great location for the old town (and the airport bus stops very close). Really good quality room and shower. I checked out super early with no issues. English speaking staff who let me try my Spanish til it ran out! The bar wasn’t open but there are loads of bars nearby. The TV is Google tv which is not ideal if you want to watch local stuff.

El hotel está muy bien situado, es cómodo, funcional y elegante a la vez. El personal es encantador. Mis únicos "peros": (1) en la habitación solo había un enchufe (la solución que nos dieron fue subir un prolongador con 4 tomas, que estuvo bien, pero como todas las habitaciones estén igual de poco dotadas...); (2) en los amenities del baño eché de menos un acondicionador para el pelo; (3) en el hall hay 5-6 escalones para llegar hasta el ascensor, no quiero imaginarme si vas con una persona discapacitada, o si llevas una maleta grande. El resto fenomenal!!

The hotel was quite nice and in a very convenient area. The staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could definitely be improved! My only disappointment with my experience was the scaffolding erected outside the hotel that totally compromised the view from our room. Because of that,we also unable to enjoy our balcony and it felt a bit unsafe. If the scaffolding wasn't there I would have been much more satisfied with my experience.

El hotel tiene unas habitaciones amplias, y están bien, pero el servicio de limpieza se realizó tarde, desde mi punto de vista. Volvimos de comer y la habitación estaba sin hacer. A pesar de estar al lado de la habitación de las sábanas, nos dejaron para el final. Lo comunicamos en recepción y me dijeron que primero se limpian las habitaciones que van a volver a ocuparse. No entiendo el porqué? Desde mi punto de vista no debería de estar sin limpiar a esa hora.

The staff at Hotel Compostela were kind and helpful, which I appreciated. My room was decent overall, but the bed was so firm it felt like I was sleeping on the floor. I was also surprised to find dusty, dirty hallway floors, and some of that tracked into my room — it didn’t feel like it had been cleaned properly before my arrival. Oh, and the gnats in my room even had me guessing how others could possibly rate this hotel a five star? I had really been looking forward to staying here as a way to wrap up my last night in Santiago with a more upscale experience and a bit of pampering. For the price I paid and after reading so many positive reviews, I expected something special. Instead, my stay felt just average, which left me a disappointed.

This was the most unwelcoming of hotels, had an Email the day before saying check in was at 12:00, arrived at 13:00 to be told very rudely to come back later, very rude and dismissive, and then being made to sit in reception for a hour. Not normally a problem if done politely, this was anything but. Manned by two very moody reception staff. Hotel is aged and looks to be from the late 90s. Pretends to be high end but in reality is just old. It was clean and location is good. Some traffic noise from road and windows are all single glazed. By far the worse stay on the Camino and this was booked as a treat to finish with. Avoid

Excellent location. Rooms are not huge but certainly big enough and offer everything you need. The best part is the location which is second to none for visiting the old part of town. Walking distance from all the key sights.

It's a great location but be aware that many rooms face in to a roofed courtyard and this feels airless. If you want to look at try to ask at Reception. My room was fine and comfortable but I wished I'd asked for a city view
