Best Western Independence Kansas City

It was fine. The elevator sounds like it’s about to break. The room was okay. The bed was comfortable & the bathroom was clean. The breakfast was not very good, which was disappointing for the price we had to pay for one night. If we needed to be in the same area in the future we’ll probably just pay the extra money to another hotel nearby.

Check in was slow and not very informative. The room was set to 80 when we got in and it was extremely warm. Parking was horrible. It is a small parking lot and and we had to park over top of the curb and landscape just to have a spot and get things from our vehicle. The back door was was not latching so anything and anyone could come in. Breakfast in the morning was very crammed for space. The food selection was very minimal. Not much out there with a line of people waiting. There was no one at the front desk the entire time we were down for breakfast to talk to about our stay. The key card return box was set on top and that was it.

Very clean, nice rooms, very comfortable beds. Parking lot was small hard to find a spot after the game.

The pool needs some help brown stains on the floor and the water was really murky and cloudy no clorine smell

The hotel is in a nice area if you’re planning to go to a Chiefs or Royals game. Only a 10 minute drive. From afar, everything looked great. But once we headed to our room, the elevator makes a horrible sound and shook a little almost like it was on the verge of breaking. Our room was clean for the most part but there’s quite a bit of wear down on things. One of the built in dressers on the side was falling apart. We didn’t put anything on it because it looked like any weight would cause it to buckle. The door to the bathroom is a sliding door. When slid to close, there’s a huge gap between the wall and door that you can see through, pretty much defeating the purpose of the door. The door also had chunks missing out of the bottom of it. The comforter also had some dark stains on it but was covered by the decorative blanket on the bed. The hotel was okay, can’t expect flawless for $130 a night, but there are some simple things that could be addressed.

The pool was cold and dirty, and pool area was dirty. ceiling above bath tub was pealing.

Comfortable beds, friendly, helpful staff. Clean room and hallway. Quiet. The refrigerator did not work and the EV charger did not work. We did talk to front desk about EV charger, but they were unable to help at that time.

I've stayed at this Best Western before with zero issues, however this time, there was definitely issues with cleanliness. When we arrived, the first room they put us in smelled terrible, it had a very musty B.O. smell to it. Then one of the beds had multiple long dark hairs on the pillows and sheets, so I requested a new room. The second room they put us in smelled clean, but we instantly checked the sheets and one of the beds in the second room was even worse than the first room. There were again multiple hairs in the bed, and a large makeup stain on the sheets that didn't even look like it had been washed out at all. It looked like fresh, glittery makeup all over the sheets. There was also a full Pringle on the ground right under the other bed. The man who was working the front desk was very nice and came and changed the sheets for me and vacuumed since housekeeping was already gone for the night, but I was just very grossed out at that point. It was very disappointing and I unfortunately won't stay here again.

When I got there I asked to see a room and he told me he couldn’t do that. I arrived at 9pm and the room was disgusting, the bathroom floor had long hair all over it. The toilet had not been cleaned, it had splatter on the rim. The shower curtain looked like it never gets washed. The sink had a pubic hair in it. If it wasn’t so late I would have left. I booked it for 2 weeks because it had a rating of 9 out of 10. Luckily I was not charged for more than the 1 night

Uncomfortable pillows. Hair in the refrigerator. Leaking and barely attached toilet which required holding down the handle the entire time to flush. Previous guests’ underwear left under the bathroom sink vanity. I’d never stay again.

Our shower would not drain, my husband took a shower in standing water. We call the front desk, someone came up and used a drain snake and pulled out a huge chunk of hair. After using the snake, did not clean the shower and the shower was dirty.

The property reviews said it was clean and in a good area, the property is run downed and yes when you go inside at first it looks nice. The room was dirty!

The facility looks nice and has potential for being a nice hotel but the cleaning staff has got to do better. Our room was disgusting. The floors had not been cleaned and were sticky. There was trash all over under the beds and chair. It looked like they just swept everything under so you couldnt see it and called it good. There was hair all in the bathroom and on the sheets. The beds were ok for comfort. Several options for breakfast.

House keeping didn’t do a good job on cleaning ! We have to switched to 3 different room couldn’t get any better ! It was too late when we check in so we decided to stay ! But will not come back there again.

Check-in was pretty quick and simple. At first glance our room was clean. The bathroom, however, was not. There was dirt and clumps of hair on the floor. There was hair stuck to the shower wall and the bottom of the bathtub was slimy. I didn't realize how dirty the shower was until I got in and then I could not get out fast enough. We have stayed at this location before without any issues but now I'm not so sure we will be back.

Outside is clean and quiet. However the floors, especially in the room was sticky and dirty. After walking around the room in my bare feet. I took a shower and black stuff from the bottom of my feet just washed off as soon as the water hit my feet. It was gross. After the shower I walked across the floor to the bed, and after just those few steps my feet where black again. The Air conditioning unit in our room was broke and it was hot. At first we were told there was nothing they could. Later after we complained the person at the front desk said they would get in trouble but they would switch us to another room where the air worked. We thanked them for their kindness. However this could have been a problem.

Beds are broken down and you sink in the mattresses. Towels are all stained and some had tears and holes. Pillow case was covered in makeup and was nasty. There was mold around the shower wall. Will never stay there again.

Check-in was done by a casually dressed teen-looking employee in a dirty black sweatshirt. They were never directly rude, but clearly they were either having a bad day, or they have never been taught the very basics about working in the hospitality business. A general friendliness or welcoming tone was completely non-existent. Beginning at about 8:30PM guests directly across the hall checked in and from then on the peace was gone. The doors to each room close on their own, and when they do they cause a very audible slamming sound throughout the hall and any neighboring rooms. This went on ALL through the night and continued as we were leaving to check out at 5:30 AM. There was apparently a party going on in there, and the people coming and going ALL night led to their door slamming shut at least 100 times, and with no less frequency than every 15 minutes. There were arguments and loud conversations in the hallway by the multiple people coming and going continuously. I called the front desk to inform of this and each time they promised big, yet nothing was done. Of the 6 times I called, only 4 times did an employee answer the phone. Upon checking out in the morning, I informed the front desk clerk that I was the one in room 316 who had been disturbed ALL night long. This type of disturbance needs to be handled promptly by hotel staff. If they're scared, then they need to call the police to deal with it. If they don't want to do that then they need to learn to start comping

We just needed a place to rest our heads after a concert in the city and this did the job for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was just OK. We were in the second floor of the complex. The elevator sounded like it might quit any second which made me a little nervous.. and our room felt damp and smelled strong of mildew. We didn’t have time or energy to try and request a different room so I can’t really complain.

The main issue we had is the room was damp and had a moldy smell. Everything else about our stay there was great. Because our stay was short, we didn't contact management about the issue, so it's not clear how they would respond or if it was the one room or if all of them are like that. We have not yet received our deposit refund either but are sure this will be resolved soon.

Rooms were clean and smelled fresh. TV worked perfectly with plenty of channel choices (however I couldn't find the sleep timer). The bathroom door (sliding door on a rail external to the bathroom) was the only disappointment as it had no have a lock and could have been a couple of inches wider to cover the door opening better.

I very much appreciated the staff at the front desk as they were helpful and courteous at check in. I was however underwhelmed with the lack of bathroom privacy with a barnstyle track door that leaves large openings and the light switches that did not seem to make sense in location or even work.

Didn’t have the breakfast. The exhaust fan in bathroom was horribly noisy. No top sheets on bed, only a duvet which I hate. Room was hot no matter what we did with AC.

I was very disappointed to see that the outlets in our room weren't working. After traveling all day and needing to fly out the next day, we were bummed to wake up the next morning to realize that our phones and watches were not charged.

Staff was friendly and rooms were clean. Had a room by the stairwell and it was very noisy late into the night.

We arrived 25 minutes before check in and asked if there was a room available, because we had a private call we needed to take ant 3pm and it was hot out in the car. There were a couple rooms available, but they were going to charge us $20. We begrudgingly agreed. By the time we got checked in, it was 2:45. We paid $20 for 15 minutes. I have driven across the country several times and never had that happen. We didn’t ask they make up a room that wasn’t ready, we didn’t call ahead and request it. We just asked for our already available room a bit early. I am not staying at any Best Western again.

There was a slight mix up with a few different things but the lady assisting me at the front desk was, by far, the absolute best example of excellent customer service.

The staff at the front desk was very friendly. Check in was fast and easy. The room looked like all the other Best Westerns I’ve stayed at. Saw the maid staff in the hallway but they never made it to my room. I had the do not disturb sign on the door in the morning but I took it down when I left. So I don’t know what happened there.The breakfast wasn’t bad. Typical of hotel breakfast. All in all, it was a great stay. The area around the hotel seemed a little depressed but wasn’t a problem. I was visiting friends so It didn’t matter to me.

Check-in was slower than most other places.

They charge an extra 100 dollars they take out of your account, they don’t hold the money they actually charge you and it may take 3-5 business days to get the money back. That needs to be advertised before you even buy the hotel room. Already paid $125 for the room and then I had to pay an extra hundred that’s ridiculous. Will never say there again.

Nice, quiet, and close to shopping. Staff is very friendly. About 15 minutes from Arrowhead for Uber.

Very pleasant stay. Easy checkin and check out! Really close to the mall and the Stadium but about 20-25 away from downtown and PNL.

Room was very comfortable and clean. The pool was absolutely freezing. They had expired milk at breakfast. Stick with the oatmeal. Everything else tasted like glue. I’d stay there again because the beds were comfortable and clean but other than that you can find better elsewhere.

We were in town for a concert at the Starlight theater & it was our first stay at a Best Western. I always worry about the neighborhood around the hotels but this was in a nice, quiet, corner area - closer to a neighborhood feel. It was off the main roads but only a quick drive to get on the hwy. The grounds were well-lit, clean & felt very safe. Very pleasant. The front desk staff at check in was absolutely wonderful! (I forgot to get his name but just excellent, excellent customer service. He was very friendly, courteous, professional & personable. It’s so nice to actually feel welcomed to a business when the face of their business offers flawless customer service. The room was clean, updated. I just wanted a budget friendly room for the night after the concert & the quality was exceptional for the price. The pool room was so clean & bright, lots of windows & quite large, much nicer than many of the more expensive places we’ve stayed. My daughter is starting to start traveling on her own or with friends & I would feel comfortable with her staying here alone. We normally skip the breakfast but they had some seasoned breakfast potatoes & the rest was enjoyable also. Definitely recommend.

Great place to stay, great food and shopping around, easy access to highways and interstate.

Close to lots of shopping. BUT……was dirty. Plus the 100$ deposit was surprising. Could be a great stay if it was cleaner and staff wasn’t slow and misunderstanding. If you are a shower person who needs pressure….this is not the place for you.

Great location. Close to KC but far enough from the city traffic.

This is apparently a very new facility. Everything is in tip-top order. Service and reception were a pleasure. Be advised that the hotel can be rather difficult to locate as it is situated behind the shopping mall stores and is accessible via a small side street leading past a restaurant and other business structures.

Location is quiet with easy access to major highways, restaurants, and shopping.

My go to for overnight trips to Royals games. Great location, friendly staff, clean, and fantastic breakfast.

I booked this hotel for my husband during his road trip, and unfortunately, he became very sick after eating the breakfast, especially the gravy. He had vomiting and nausea for several hours while driving that day. I reached out to the hotel. They were polite and offered a 15% discount for a future stay, but we won’t be coming back. I feel it’s important to share this experience so others can be cautious, especially with the breakfast.

I liked the ease of getting to the hotel and the cleanliness The breakfast was cold most mornings and needed to be microwaved to be hot. When I went to check-in I was told they tried to call me as my card was declined. I corrected the problem and they ran my card with no problem. The problem I have is no one called and when I made the reservation I told them i would pay in person. When I got home I found a bill in my inbox. I have found Best Western to be a reliable hotel chain but after this I don't know if I can stay there. I also am not happy about the $100.00 surcharge.

This was my 11th hotel in 11 days. Best hotel of them all. Considered staying an extra day just to relax in the room. Front desk people were polite and very helpful. Breakfast and breakfast room was outstanding. Area was good

The breakfast was good.

Unfortunately the breakfast area is quite small. And the cook was the only one cooking and serving until a young man was called from the front desk to help It was over crowded due to several baseball teams staying and I know that help is hard to get so those were extenuating circumstances. With taxes and charges it cost over $300 for 2 nights. I don’t think we would stay there if we came back to Independence again.
