Best Western Plus The Charles Hotel

Advertised as having an ev charger however it was not working. Hotel shows up on Expedia list of hotels with ev chargers. Should probably take off the list till charger is fixed. Led to a long delay in trip

If you’re wanting to stay here for the indoor pool, just be warned that the pool is freezing and not headed during the winter months. The ceiling in our room looked like there was water damage and the water pressure in the shower was weak.

Staff was very friendly, facilities were in fairly good condition. The lighting outside was minimal and didn't feel welcoming.

The hotel was little old, but not bad. I chose this location because it was on our route and offered an ev charging station. When we arrived there was a non ev parked in the spot, told the clerk who didn’t seem to be interested, I was able to get close enough to try and charge my car when I discovered that the charger was inoperable, in fact it appeared to have been in that condition for a while. Fortunately there was a charging station about 2 miles away.

I think they do offer room service but I did not utilize it. It was clean and the beds were very comfy. The breakfast they offer was great. I have stayed here quite a few times and I will stay again. The price point is great especially for what they offer. My kids love the pool and they have a pretty good setup in the work out area. If you need to charge your EV they have a couple in front but they always seem to be blocked by cars that do not need them.

We chose this hotel for the pool, which seemed larger than other hotels of a similar cost. We really enjoyed the fact that it had a deep end- 12 ft! The hotel itself was decent. It is an older hotel, but seems to have been maintained well. It felt clean. Staff was friendly at both check in and check out. The breakfast was very nice and there was a good selection.

Our only disappointment was that we specifically booked this hotel for its pool and when we got there they told us the pool was down and weren’t sure when it would be back open. Sadly it was closed for our entire stay. They were very vague with any answers about the pool and had no explanation about why it was closed.

Had a great stay. Upon checking in lady at front desk was very professional and sharp. Room was clean and comfortable. Loved the morning breakfast… Plenty of food and drinks to choose from. Only drawback was pool was closed for repairs and painting. Actually was not a big deal. Overall would recommend.

Very pleased with these accommodations. Was very clean and beds were comfortable. The guy who checked us in was friendly and personable. The pool was nice. My kids enjoyed that there was a “deep end” 12’!

The staff I did encounter were extremely helpful and nice. I will definitely stay again It was extremely difficult to get the luggage cart into the elevator

The rug in our room was disgusting…dirty, sticky, damp. The toilet was TOO low. The table was sticky in our room

Carpet in the room was so damp, my socks were wet walking around the room. The sheets were also very damp. Very poor sleep experience

Very old and dirty

The grounds, lobby and breakfast cafe were all lovely. The room was another story. The room was humid (moist) and cool. The a/c unit emitted a weird smell, so we turned it off for our entire stay. The carpet was sticky in places, wrinkled and worn throughout, and badly stained just inside the door. Extremely disappointing.

Bathroom was not clean. I had to clean off the toilet and there was hair in the shower and on the floor.

I waited alone in the lobby for between 10-15 minutes before staff came. He explained that he was the only staff and another guest needed something. (A note would have been nice- as we had spent 15 hours driving and were exhausted. We got the room and layed down. 10 minutes later we were being bitten by bed bugs. They offered to move us to another floor but we only had about 4-1/2 hours before we had to get onto the road again. We couldn’t risk it happening again so we left and asked for a refund. The staff member said she couldn’t refund it but I could contact management-which I just did. They have left for the day. (It’s 12:15pm). I was told that she would respond tomorrow morning. I will try to update this review. But I could tell by their reactions that this isn’t the first time that this has happened. Beware.

Room wasn't very clean. Bed sheets looked dirty.

Spent a day during our stay with no running water and also no fees removed from my bill. Walking around the room with socks on and the bottoms were totally black after a few minutes. Room looks clean but is pretty gross.

Had to switch rooms because of strong cigarette smell, second room still had smell but it was better than the first room. Pillow had other customers acne puss / pimple blood. Towels were already dirty like cleaning staff just folded up old towels.

Carpet was filthy and room had musty smell.

Horrible WiFi, toilet ankle high,

We have stayed here 3-4 times in the past 8 months. This is a no thrills basic level hotel. Every room we have stayed in has been well worn with signs of overuse (cracks in walls, old worn carpet, cracked tiles/basins in bathroom. We were told they were going to remodel but none of our rooms were at any time we were there. The last room had a microwave in a microwave stand but the plug did not reach the outlet. Have been given dirty or smelly room. The front desk did switch us out. The shower head is maybe 6’ high. At 5’7” had to bend to get under spray. Breakfast is ok. Many options but not real flavorful. It seems safe enough and is near stores. That is a plus.

There was zero water pressure in the shower. Besides that it was clean and convenient.

Only complaint would be that the shower needs improved. It was lacking pressure due to not all the water was directed out the showers head no matter which order we attempted to pull shower toggle up. Then the shower itself was extremely difficult to pull to turn on.

Wifi did not work for entire week

Nothing to special. One night breakfast was ok. Nothing amazing but all eatable. Room was clean but dated. Air conditioner was super loud in the room.

It was quiet and the room size was good.

Honestly, the people were fine. But the sink in the bathroom was filthy, and the room was damp. The floor and bed just felt damp.

The property has definitely seen better days. It’s starting to show signs of wear and tear. The carpet in our room was very dirty. They need to remind the housekeeping to vacuum around the edges of the room. First time ever I left my shoes on in a hotel room. The room had a faint musty smell, but it wasn’t too bad. I personally prefer a drive-up entrance with a canopy. I did like the large dining area and the breakfast was nice.

Awesome Hotel. Internet was HORRIBLE. The front desk acknowledged that the hotel has poor internet which I don't understand as it's next door to a casino and convention center. The Internet is so bad that it's false advertising to even claim there is wifi. Shame, as everything else was superb.

James, at check-in, was most helpful, polite and respectful of our needs. He was a blessing after a long day of traveling. Wish other places had personnel like James.

No staff at check out - Outside smoking. Another man was waiting too. We all just left. At check in same staff member who was not available as we left couldn't get credit card machines to work. Fortunately someone else did. She needs more training also not personable or friendly. Would have added to stay.

Pleasant experience overall, easy stop off the highway and relatively safe neighborhood . Gentleman at the front desk made check-in streamlined and easy, very helpful

The room was clean and the location was convenient, but the service was unacceptable. At check-in I was assigned to the wrong room and had to be resolved in the system the following day. When I extended my stay by one night, I clearly stated the dates, yet a staff member later attempted to charge me for ten nights totaling $1,075.45, which I never authorized. The charge was declined by my bank, but it required corporate intervention to fix. This level of error and the argumentative attitude from that staff member made the stay far more stressful than it should have been.

I booked a last minute stay at this property thru Expedia. Once booked, I realized that I had booked for the following evening (thank you Expedia calendar for not making the current evening an option). Upon discovering this mistake (less than an hour after making the reservation), I requested cancellation of the reservation. Expedia says they requested the cancellation but the property would not respect this request. I am guessing that having the small amount of revenue my reservation generated them is worth me absolutely avoiding them every time in the future I may need a room in St Charles. Congrats Best Western! You'll never receive a dollar from me again!

I am reaching out regarding a deeply concerning incident that occurred during my recent stay at your St. Charles, MO location. I had checked in last night with my friend, Meraiah, after celebrating a friend’s 21st birthday at the nearby Ameristar Casino. We chose your hotel specifically to ensure a safe place to rest for the night. However, in the middle of the night, we were abruptly woken up by two unfamiliar men who managed to unlock and open our hotel room door. We were issued two keys upon check-in, so I am alarmed as to how these individuals had access to our room. Fortunately, we had secured the top latch, preventing their entry and avoiding a potentially dangerous situation. After the incident, I reported this to the front desk, but to my disappointment, the staff member responded with a dismissive attitude, suggesting that this was not a significant concern. I am reaching out because this is a very serious matter, both for my friend’s and my own personal safety, as well as the reputation of your establishment. We trusted that staying at Best Western would provide us with peace of mind and security. I kindly ask that you look into this issue and review your hotel’s procedures for guest room access, as well as address this specific incident with your staff to ensure it is taken seriously. I would appreciate a prompt response, as well as any information on steps Best Western will take to ensure this type of security breach does not happen again.

When i arrive the front desk girl doesnt have any customer service skills, she was on her ear piece talking to her friend while checking me in.

Great location, near the convention center and walkable to local stores, but really poor value for money. Rooms are dated, staff are mostly unprofessional and unhelpful (getting breakfast times wrong, 'rationing' breakfast items so those who arrive later may get none of popular items like pancakes, ignoring Do not Disturb signs, refusing to help a blind woman who was struggling with her luggage and emotional support dog, etc). Our room was not clean when we arrived (marks on bedding, dried on food(?) stain on lampstand and in the week we stayed there, housekeeping only cleaned it once. (Best Western claims there will be full housekeeping service after 3 days.)

Staff needs training in service dog laws. I was told at check-in that service dogs are considered pets and that all pets have to stay on 5th floor. They did let us stay even though there was no 5th floor rooms. Lots of people with service dogs also have mobility issues and 5th floor may not be great for them.

Convenient to I-70 with ample parking. Close to old town St. Charles. Met the expectations for the price.

Staff was wonderful, property itself is pretty rundown. Area around hotel is nice, but corner where hotel is has a lot of homeless people. One of which had to be arrested for harassing guests and throwing his trash everywhere

Great hotel near historic St Charles. Easy off/on freeway. Lots of shopping and dining around.

Centrally located for our planned activities. Dining within walking distance.

From the minute we drove onto the property it was horrible!! The grounds were dirty, there was an abandoned car in the parking lot, parking lot was poorly lit and felt very unsafe, and you couldn’t tell if there was one or two main entrances. Staff acted as if we were inconveniencing them when we walked up to front desk. It took FOUR trips from the fourth floor to the front desk before they were able to get our room key cards to work. We were put in a room close to elevators so we had the hum of them going up and down all night. The toilet took several flushes before it would flush anything down. It was a very uncomfortable, noisy, dirty stay! Also getting in and out of property was very confusing and inconvenient.I will NEVER stay here again!!

The entire hotel smelled. The area is rough and seemed very much unsafe. The room did not look anything like the pictures on the site including mismatched furniture and was filthy with a worse smell than the rest of the hotel. It was super disappointing all the way around. Definitely NOT worth what we paid. Has turned us completely off of staying at a Best Western ever again.

Breakfast was good quality and variety, everything was hot and fresh.

This hotel had good reviews and it's a Best Western so our expectations were high before we arrived. The hotel and our stay certainly met those expectations. Check-in was easy and the front desk person pleasant and helpful. Our room was clean in all the important areas although there was a fair amount of dust on the back of the TV. We always find having a fridge and microwave a helpful addition. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet, and heating & air easy to adjust. The breakfast buffet was very good with a wide selection of choices from cooked food to cereal, pastries, and yogurt. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The room was cold when we arrived - AC was running on an already cold day. The fragance from room cleaning was a bit of a challenge since I have a lung condition. This was resolved by leaving the bathroom fan running for the duration of our stay. The review asked us to score on the environmental side of things; it was good to see large wall mounted shower gel, shampoo etc but unfortunatley, the usual amount of plastic one-time-use utensils. My wife and I recommend this hotel and will stay here again when in this area.

It was very clean, everyone was very nice and friendly. It had a great breakfast I highly recommend staying here I know I will again.

We both enjoyed the hotel, especially the comfy beds and the delicious hot breakfast.

Let me start with the BACON on the breakfast bar. I went down a little after 8am and was thrilled to see a pile of bacon on the breakfast bar. They also had biscuits and gravy that were excellent. I have to brag on the amazing coffee/expresso/latte/hot chocolate machine that is available 24/7 in the main lobby. I may have tested this a few to many times😘. The pool was being repainted while I was there but looked amazing. Overall, wonderful experience and I would go back.

Loved to coffee machine in the lobby. The breakfast was a problem. Bacon was gone by 9am, got some eggs, but breakfast advertised till 10am. If 9am is actual cutoff, change the sign for breakfast hours. Other than that.....great experience.

Clean and quiet with great breakfast

Our stay was great except we were there for a cheer comp had to leave by 7 AM and could not utilize breakfast because it didn’t start until 7. Had I saw that we would have chose somewhere else. Otherwise it’s awesome!
