Perry at the front desk was terrific and made us feel very welcome and appreciated at check in. The Royal hotel has great personality and we love the inner courtyard. I do wish we had known our room was on the fourth floor with no elevator. So if you are staying caring large bags may be challenging.

Staff was nice. Historic building. No elevators! So of you've got heavy luggage,be prepared to lift up the steps. Nice and spacious with lots of space, but walls are thin. You hear folks walking by. It's the French Quarter you are going to have some faults.

This is a nice hotel with about a 3-block walk to the action of Bourbon St. The staff was amazing! A few things I learned and want to pass along because it might have changed my mind on this stay ... There's no elevator. (fairly common in NOLA, but unexpected for the niceness and price) The stairs are very narrow and steep. (carrying luggage up and down was complicated) The upgraded rooms (balcony) don't have a fridge or microwave. (not a priority for some, but I eat small meals and like to take left-over "to-go food" and snack later, so it totally changed my trip plans related to food) Apparently, the lower-priced rooms do have them. Again, staff was amazing and checked around for me! There is NO food/drink served on the property (breakfast, coffee, etc.). So, ya gotta get dressed to get something good to start your day. The balcony was nice and would be great to just sit and enjoy in good weather, but don't expect to be throwing beads to any action...(it's still 3-blocks away) These aren't complaints! ... just some things that caught me off-guard, so notifying so you won't be surprised. Very, very nice and accommodating staff!!

Overall a NOLA unique place to stay. No elevators so if you're on an upper floor you take the crooked stairs with your luggage. Parking is convenient but very expensive. Very small bathrooms and overall it's got a few things going for it but will not return.

The building is over 200 years old. The plank floors the high ceilings the balcony, beautiful ! And just 2 blocks from the French Quarter… yet your off the beaten path on a nice quiet street to escape when needed. FYI there are no elevators but wasn’t an issue for me. The only thing that would have been nice is a mini fridge in the room.

Really liked the charm of this hotel and it's location. The staff was very friendly. However, our room had several issues including a shower that did not get very warm nor did it drain well. Our toilet was also constantly running and although they came out to address it, it was right back to running after a single flush. A little fixing up of these things and the stay would have been much higher rated.

Room wasn't the buggest, but was perfectly adequate for what we needed. It was comfortable and spotlessly clean, and hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. Hotel is in great location, close to a lot of major landmarks. Overall would definitely recommend and would come back here if/when we return

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Brian checked us in and he was great. There isn’t an elevator & we were on the 3rd floor. He carried my luggage up (it was heavy). The room was large. The bedding was clean but the couch was white and extremely stained. The bathroom was not very clean. There were stains around the toilet and on the floor around the tub and sink. The tub/shower was stained and cracked. The water drained slowly because there was a lot of hair in the drain. The water took a very long time to get warm. Lukewarm. The location of the hotel was fantastic. We were able to walk everywhere and never needed a car. We were definitely happy about the location. Unfortunately we will not be staying there again.

I would like a full refund. There was blood on the sheets, a broken mirror where the glass was loose and could have falling onto me, no hot water, and no water pressure. The water would literally turn off during a shower. The television remote didn't work. There weren't any wash cloths. There wasn't an extra roll of toilet tissue. I reported this and there wasn't any change outside of the wash cloths. By far my worst hotel experience.

We stayed at two different hotels while in New Orleans both in the French Quarter and both nice but Hotel Royal was by far our favorite. If you're looking for a hotel that captures the French Quarter vibe this is the one you want! We stayed in a king suite with the balcony and hot tub. The room was large and comfortable. The balcony was overlooking Royal Street which I loved! You are able to experience the excitement of the French Quarter while being separate from the crowd. The balcony was probably my favorite part! The courtyard was beautiful and would make a great place for pictures. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I was a little surprised there wasn't a fridge and microwave in our room but everything else was so perfect I couldn't be mad. It was everything I'd hoped it would be and more. It may sound dramatic but having experienced two different hotels I realized staying here made our experience much more enjoyable! Keep in mind there are no elevators and the stairs are a lot so pack accordingly. Nothing too heavy and you don't want to make too many trips like we did. Again so worth it but I would have packed a little better if I'd thought of it.

The rooms are small. The deluxe is still tiny, not sure how small even a standard room would be. I recommend upgrading to a larger room. Location is fantastic. Friendly, helpful staff. Beds are super comfy.

The location is just what we were looking for in proximity to the French Quarter. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue for me was our room was right off the courtyard. You can hear everything that goes on. Some of the guests were very loud. Granted I know it’s New Orleans and it’s party city, but we could hear everything like it was in the room with us. Had I known this I probably wouldn’t have chosen this particular location to stay But overall it was a good experience.

Staff was excellent. The room was comfortable. We had a room facing Royal Street so it was quite loud at times, all hours. I'd recommend this hotel, but ask for a room that doesn't face the street.

If you have room 26, request a different room. Right next to a very noisy hallway door and staircase, you WILL hear people every single they come in or out. Staff was friendly, room was relatively clean, bed was relatively comfortable but not anything to write home about. Location is amazing! Would stay here again, just not in room 26.

The person behind the desk the evening I arrived was very helpful and logged my suitcase up many flights of stairs. Overall, the old world charm is there, but did not care for the inner room that was enclosed with no windows. It felt incredibly small and claustrophobic. Also, it’s old and the wooden floors, echo and amplify people slamming doors and running around the hallways. I would definitely splurge for an outer room with a balcony in the future.

The hotel is charming with great staff & a great location. The problem is the paper thin walls that provide no insulation of noise. We could hear EVERYTHING other guests were doing at all hours. Ear plugs might help, but overall we did not have restful sleep here which was unfortunate because it’s a nice place.

The hotel itself is fantastic. The location amazing. Would not change a thing. It would have been the perfect stay had there not been confusion regarding incidentals. The parking was meant to have been taken out of the amount on hold. Instead it was charged again. Checking out took almost an hou without a resolution. Had to wait for the original charge to hit the account again days later. Despite this, I would not wish to disuade anyone from staying at this hotel. I am hoping this was a one off mxup and would stay again.

Your guy at the front desk, Perry, is very cool. The guy schlepped my luggage up 3 steep flights of stairs. Those stairs were a crazy workout. Third floor rooms should be discounted for that reason. I'm 53, and ten years from now, I'm unsure if I'll be able to climb them. My room was pretty small and had nowhere to set up my laptop. On Saturday, I left my room by 11am and removed the 'Do not disturb' sign. When I returned several hours later, my room was not cleaned or made up. I imagine housekeeping also dislikes those stairs. That was a bummer.

We had a lovely long weekend visit to New Orleans, and Hotel Royal was a perfect home base. We got to enjoy the romance of a balcony in the French Quarter without all the noise/busyness. Perry at the front desk was such a friendly host, he made us feel welcomed with his Southern hospitality.

Stay was great! Loved the room, and the building was great! Only problem I had, was maintenance started pounding on my door while I was in the restroom, and even though I had the do not disturb sign on the door, he barged in! I had to yell for him to please not come in, that I was in the restroom…turns out, he was in the wrong room! But, not that big of a deal to ruin my stay…

It says parking is offered on this website, and it is. However, if you pay for valet, beware that the valet doesn’t come in until 12:00PM. If you leave before 12:00PM you will be responsible for retrieving your own vehicle. “Security Guard” sits on the couch eating and playing on her phone all night, the receptionist is little to no help, and the rooms are terribly inconvenient to access. You will be dragging your suitcase up the stairs for lack of an elevator. Also, we found a large cockroach beside our bed.

Perry was THE BEST host I have ever encountered at any stay! Not only was he knowledgeable of the area but he is a great conversationalist and brings an AMAZING welcoming energy that can’t be matched!

The staff was so helpful and accommodating, especially Perry. It’s a small hotel without a lot of amenities but I would definitely stay again. Very convenient to restaurants and shops.

An historical hotel 1 block from Burbon st for less than a night at the Days inn....comfortable and with 19th century charm. The rooms are small but thats what you get from a 200 year old hotel. The convenient location overcomes any small issues that may arise. It is located in a perfect spot, 1 block from Burbon st yet the room is quiet. There is secured parking (for a fee) and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I recommend highly.

Great Location, close to Frenchmen Street, French Market, Street Car, Bourbon Street. I've been to New Orleans several times and hotels in this location are typically where I like to stay because everything is walkable. There aren't elevators, not a show stopper for me, but something to be aware of.

We loved the style, fresh decor, old quaint French/Spanish style of this French Quarter hotel. Just beautiful. Right in the heart of this area so everything was accessible. No breakfast facilities but really not needed as coffee shop literally over road diagonally and so many places around. Coffee facilities in room were ample for us. Having a fridge in the room we were moved to was a necessary item and I think they should have one in each room. We were moved as we had requested a room with a sofa for our longer stay. Balcony onto the from was a treat to have a drink on and watch the Mardi Gras! Also for morning quiet people watching! Loved this hotel. The staff are absolutely lovely as were all the people we met around New Orleans. What a great holiday we had staying here. Lovely hotel. Lovely memories. Wish it wasn't so far from England, we would return every year if we could!

The hotel was nice, staff was very friendly and helpful. Be aware there is no elevator. We enjoyed staying in the French quarter. We walked everywhere and yet it was quiet at night. We used the hotel valet parking for convenience and peace of mind. Worked well and close by for access. We enjoyed our stay and the French quarter ambiance. Cute coffee shop across the street!

i’ll start by saying our hotel room was nice. the location was very convenient since it was in walking distance of everything. however, i don’t think we’ll be staying there again. the staff was very friendly, but our room was lacking some things that would’ve been nice to know BEFORE booking. the rooms have no microwave or refrigerator. there’s no breakfast included. the hot water takes a while to heat up. the toilet was in a room the size of a very narrow closet. you hear absolutely everything going on outside and inside the hotel. also, if you get vacation protection, be ready to pay upfront when you get the the hotel. we had to pay $220 upfront as soon as we checked in. of course, the money will be refunded at check out, but we weren’t prepared for that considering it said all funds were paid when you first booked the hotel. parking is $45 a night, but if you’re lucky, the free parking on the side of the road in front of the hotel will be open. our stay was not miserable by any means, but i’m including all of this information because it’s something we would’ve liked to know before booking our room!

Didn’t quite know what to expect of this hotel - and it started with a Himalayan trek to get large cases up to our 3rd floor room through winding staircases - but that was before we realized actually what a gem this place actually is….. Do they serve any food or drink in house ? No (unless you count free bottles of water !) - but you have the entirety of the French Quarter on your doorstep !!!! You can get anything you want (pretty much literally) within a very short walk The Royal is actually a very very charming old building - very much ‘in the mould’ of the French Quarter and they have not messed with it thankfully. The rooms are very nicely appointed (and individual) - these are not the square boxes of the monster hotels that proliferate outside the FQ…. So yes once you get used to it being different to a boring ‘modern’ hotel then you start to appreciate everything this place has to offer. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who really wants to be in the heart of the action - can’t wait to go back ;) Oh and the staff went above and beyond in helping us with not just directions but booking up some of the various attractions we wanted to see - well done to the whole team there….

It was a nice comfortable room, but our regular room had a tiny sink and tiny shower I’m 5’1and i hardly fit in it. I can’t imagine a man or woman larger than me fitting in it. The staff was always nice and polite! There’s a cute coffee shop across the street which made it convenient for morning coffee!

This is a nice hotel with about a 3-block walk to the action of Bourbon St. The staff was amazing! A few things I learned and want to pass along because it might have changed my mind on this stay ... There's no elevator. (fairly common in NOLA, but unexpected for the niceness and price) The stairs are very narrow and steep. (carrying luggage up and down was complicated) The upgraded rooms (balcony) don't have a fridge or microwave. (not a priority for some, but I eat small meals and like to take left-over "to-go food" and snack later, so it totally changed my trip plans related to food) Apparently, the lower-priced rooms do have them. Again, staff was amazing and checked around for me! There is NO food/drink served on the property (breakfast, coffee, etc.). So, ya gotta get dressed to get something good to start your day. The balcony was nice and would be great to just sit and enjoy in good weather, but don't expect to be throwing beads to any action...(it's still 3-blocks away) These aren't complaints! ... just some things that caught me off-guard, so notifying so you won't be surprised. Very, very nice and accommodating staff!!

We really enjoyed our stay in Room 6. We appreciated the refrigerator for cold drinks and the coffee maker to get us started in the morning. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We wish the sink had been bigger and perhaps a shelf and a couple of hooks to make bathroom/shower business a little easier. We loved the vintage feel of the property. The stairs were a bit of a challenge for us but we took them slow and got along fine. We want to give a special mention and thank you to Perry, the evening desk clerk. He was very friendly and helpful. He answered our questions, made recommendations and helped arrange our transportation back to the airport. We loved the location and walked everywhere. We would recommend this hotel to anyone as long as they can navigate the stairs.

Hotel Royal was the absolute perfect location for a home base in the French Quarter! Incredibly convenient to all local attractions, without being in the thick of the chaos! The bed was very comfortable the room was perfect (smaller but we barely spent much time hanging out in it), and the bathroom was clean and spacious! The team at Hotel Royal was so wonderful, always greeting us upon our arrival and departure, and they always had a bottle of water waiting at the front desk for us whenever we asked! We will CERTAINLY be returning to Hotel Royal on our next trip to NOLA! Thanks again!

There are pros and cons. Pros The staff are all absolutely Amazing! Everyone was so nice. The location is great to walk all the Fench Quarter. The room I had was very large. Cons 1. There is no elevator which is fine but if you are unable to use stairs then make sure to book a ground floor room. 2. The front door was broken when we got there so anyone could walk in and that was a bit unsettling. They did fix the front door the last day of my stay. (Pic incl) 3. The courtyard could use some work. The fountain looks green and slimy and could use some landscaping. 4. In my room you couldn't close the bathroom door all the way so no privacy. (Pic incl) 5. In my room I couldn't use the lamp because there was no plug in. (Pic incl) 6. In my room there were two TVs but you could only use one at a time and to use the living room TV presented a scary trip hazard because the plug dangled across the entry way (pic incl) 7. In my room the desk chair is old and falling apart (Pic incl) 8. In my room the balcony view was not a view (Pic incl) 9. In my room the bed sheets had something gross on them (Pic incl) 10. In my room the shower only had hot water so we couldn't shower after our twelve hour drive which was awful. 11. The shower head is for a 7 ft person so with me being 5'4 had to get on tippy toes and jump to move it in a different direction. 12. Had a wonderful stay here, the staff was great (shout out to Meycy) . The only issue I ran into was I paid for a better room with a tub, but was put in a basic room with a shower, which I wasn’t comped for. I asked multiple times about it and was continually told to come back later by the men working on the property. It ending up never being resolved. So the downgraded room at an upgraded price was my only negative feedback, other then that the room was nice, the hotel was nice and the staff was nice! The location was also perfect, not too far from everything but also not so close as to be disturbed by all the noise at night.
Had a wonderful stay here, the staff was great (shout out to Meycy) . The only issue I ran into was I paid for a better room with a tub, but was put in a basic room with a shower, which I wasn’t comped for. I asked multiple times about it and was continually told to come back later by the men working on the property. It ending up never being resolved. So the downgraded room at an upgraded price was my only negative feedback, other then that the room was nice, the hotel was nice and the staff was nice! The location was also perfect, not too far from everything but also not so close as to be disturbed by all the noise at night.
