The outside of the hotel looked dated, the inside had a moldy stale smell. We were put in room 7. It was a large twin room. The floor boards creaked and the interior was incredibly dated. Although the water was hot, The cold tap only dibbled and so it took Forever for the bath to cool. The view was over the staff quarters and so we had to keep the curtains closed. The gym was very dated, rusty machines, most were broken, and very dirty. They were not safe to use. The Jacuzzi was broken and the swimming pool was freezing. It was not safe to use, and even when I aired my concerns, it was shunned away!! The hotel needs to be cleaned, serviced, and upgraded. I would need to be paid a lot to stay here again!!

Stayed here for 2 nights. We had room 8. Very large, spacious room. Some updating could be done, however, everything did the job. Pool was good size and had a small area for toddlers. Only complaint we had was the room was very hot. We stayed during the heatwave, so expected warm weather, but the only opening window was in the bathroom, and upon arrival the towel heater in the bathroom was switched on. If traveling with toddlers please check this, because it is extremely hot and can be a burn risk for little hands. Overall, would stay here again.

Had a family suite for one night to stay with my 2 boys. The hotel was probably once a thriving, quite impressive hotel however it was let down by being very (very!) over-due a refit! I have no particular complaints as it was very clean (other than the mugs in the room looked like noone had washed them since the last guests!), just very tired. The pool area was good. Nice large pool with a childrens section.

Disappointing. Room was ok but quite cramped. Went to reception to get towels for the pool and was told they'd run out but they would bring wine down to us. No towels turned up Pool was icy cold. Jacuzzi was dirty and the steam room was out of order. Ladies changing rooms were so cold I couldn't get changed in there. We had to dress over our wet costumes and get sorted in our room. Glad we were only there for the one night

Hotel staff friendly. Hotel itself is shabby and in need of updating. Heating not on in certain areas, pool changing area was freezing, I would recommend treating the jacuzzi with chemicals overnight so people can actually use it from early morning after all it is what is included in the price. Breakfast not too bad but the teabags they use are awful ( cheap) and the milk was going off ( didn’t drink) so overall apart from staff being friendly I won’t be returning.

Good value but a bit past it's heyday. Pool and gym is of a decent standard although steam room was out of order. likewise the TV in the room had no reception. another family with a similar problem were comp'd a round of drinks but we didn't find our faulty telly till the end of the night.... D'oh!

Hotel smells musty from entering the door. Greeted by leftovers from room service outside the door of a room a few doors away that was still there the following day. The room had a blood stain on the carpet as you cross the threshold. The toilet didnt flush and no hot water at 7am. Didn't want to chance the breakfast. Young girl on reception with a very painful looking black eye totalled 3 staff members we saw during our stay. The first being the receptionist on arrival who was smoking by the front door. I was really looking forward to my stay a this 'spa' hotel. Shocking is the only word i can use

The staff were nice the reception area was lovely the garden at the back was really nice. Then I go to my room to find the filthiest carpet I have ever seen the I see I have a double bed when I paid for a queen mould round the windows and they looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years and if that wasn't bad enough a black bug ran across my bed I was furious went to complain and ask for another room only to be told they don’t even do queen beds at the hotel they have no other rooms left and someone will come and vac the bug up what an absolute joke I booked four rooms for my guests for my birthday and they were all filthy I certainly will not be going back

Staff very friendly and helpful. Double bed very comfy, single bed far too soft for an adult, fine for a small child. Rooms would benefit from a deep clean. The building is looking tired (visible bubbling on the walls, discoloured plug holes, tatty bed bases) and needs refreshing. For a spa day I would be disappointed, for a base to explore the area it was fine. The pool was a key factor in choosing this hotel.

We booked a family room. When going to the room we went from a corridor into another corridor which smelled of damp. The room smelled of damp. The room was very shabby and old looking. There was mould on the walls. The armchair was filthy and covered in dust. We went to complain and he was not very helpful he knew what room we were about to complain about before we even mentioned the room number. He wasnt there when we arrived. Very suspicious that he knew what room number but still tried to say we have no mould in the hotel. He said the hotel was full. We decided to leave and not even stay. It was too late to look for another hotel. We decided to go home. We came for shopping at Cheshire Oaks. We had done that. Avoid this hotel!!!!!!

The rooms were outdated and filthy. We had to lay bath towels on the floor to walk around the carpet was so stained and dirty. Curtains hanging down half off their hooks, the mattress had to have been as old as I was. Staff were friendly and the grounds and pool were nice but would never stay there again.

The rooms are in desperate need of refurbishment and from the room you can hear every single noise like someone snoring all night , loud TV, disrespectful customers banging doors and yelling in the night. Shame as the pool is really nice, but apart from that I didn’t enjoy my stay.

Friendly, helpful staff but don't seem to have many. First room we were given (Rm 14), the springs of the mattress were visible under the duvet!! Told the guy on Reception we wanted another room. Mattress was rock hard but no springs (Rm 70). No side lights or table lamps in this room. Shower was great. Quite large walk in shower & rainbiw shower. Tea, coffee, kettle in room. Very basic decor and very basic room. Evening meal was delicious and breakfast was full English, toast, cereals and fruit. Again, very nice. Just a shame about the rooms.

Stayed after a night at the races just to sleep basically. Hotel feels like it needs modernising; room although big was very dated with its furnishings and amenities. It was very hot that day and the aircon was non existent. I also forgot my shampoo and there wasn’t any provided that a lot of hotels do and the toilet had a very old fashioned handle that needed attention when it fell off! Other than that it was an ok bolthole to stay!

A lovely hotel with good facilities in the SPA. My only complaint was the WIFI in my room (057) was intermittent and did actually fail one night which did annoy some of the guests.

We stayed at this hotel for our trip to Chester zoo and the location is great for the zoo. Check in was easy despite our late arrival. However, as per other reviews the hotel is quite old and could do with being revamped. When we woke up Saturday morning we unfortunately didn’t have an hot water for a shower. The spa / pool also looks like it needs some tlc. The walls were quite thin that we could hear people at 2am returning home and coughing next door. However, for the price we paid for the two nights we couldn’t argue too much.
We stayed at this hotel for our trip to Chester zoo and the location is great for the zoo. Check in was easy despite our late arrival. However, as per other reviews the hotel is quite old and could do with being revamped. When we woke up Saturday morning we unfortunately didn’t have an hot water for a shower. The spa / pool also looks like it needs some tlc. The walls were quite thin that we could hear people at 2am returning home and coughing next door. However, for the price we paid for the two nights we couldn’t argue too much.

The picture, the description and the facilties felt like a Conference Hotel from the 1980s....nothing like the 'Spa' badge that sets an expectation of comfort and quality Consistent with this rather tied 'feel', they appeared understaffed to a considerable degree with the young feller on the front desk holding things together with sticky tape and string, a LOT of running around doing everything. ...saved by the amazing staff - more in keeping for their service with a 5* Hotel. * The Chef - standing in for the main Chef who had thrown a sickie last minute - did a fabulous job - unexpectedly good food * The feller who waited on us couldn't have done more - he was fabulous! * The fornt of house guy was utterly amazing - having to sort out laundry, stand in Chef, calls, bookings and keeping things looking like a graceful Swan on the surface whilst it was clear there was a LOT of paddling going on beneath the surface THREE CHEERS to these 3 guys - Well done - Fantastic. ...The Owners - The Managers of this place need a serious look at themselves, roll up their sleeves and bring the rest of the Hotel up to the standard set by their own staff. Friendly, helpful staff but don't seem to have many. First room we were given (Rm 14), the springs of the mattress were visible under the duvet!! Told the guy on Reception we wanted another room. Mattress was rock hard but no springs (Rm 70). No side lights or table lamps in this room. Shower was great. Quite large walk in shower & rainbiw shower. Tea, coffee, kettle in room. Very basic decor and very basic room. Evening meal was delicious and breakfast was full English, toast, cereals and fruit. Again, very nice. Just a shame about the rooms.

Staff we extremely welcoming and friendly. Hotel was clean but in need of an upgrade. Room was lovely, bed comfortable but pillows were completely flat -no filling at all. Corridors to the rooms were freezing as all fire escapes were wide open all day & into late evening -apart from security aspect of this, also poor economy given the cost of heating etc. Unpleasant to come back to a cold hotel in an evening

Booked for 2 nights as local to Chester zoo & outside of city centre. Travelling alone with young child. The corridor to our room distinctly smelt of cannabis clearly coming from one of the rooms, I did not raise this as felt this was strong enough for the hotel staff to recognise themselves. We had our evening meal on 1st night in the restaurant, the food was not great for the price, and had to move as we were initially seated under a dripping conservatory overhead window. The bar area next to the restaurant was loud and felt rough. I did not feel safe in this environment with my child. We went back to our room but did not sleep due to paper thin walls and the noise being unbearable due to drunken rumblings, banging and music from the room above and a child screaming throughout the night from the same room, understandably. Additionally the mattress had a hole in it the size of a small football. At 6am I raised my concerns with staff and were given a different room for night 2. We had ordered room service for breakfast, this never arrived. We were subsequently offered a complimentary breakfast for the 2nd morning however due to our unsettling experience in the restaurant for our evening meal on the first night I did not wish to put my child in that same environment again and checked out at the earliest opportunity. During our stay it was made known to me that this hotel is a halfway house for local council waiting list and is widely known locally for this. Awful experience.

I enjoyed my stay (5 nights) very much. Was a little shocked to find out that there were no shops around at all but I should have checked that out before A BIG thank you to Geraldine on reception. She was wonderful and looked after me so well. I wish all hotels had such a person like her. The breakfasts and dinners were top class. A great choice and everything was super delicious The hotel needs an upgrade particularly the rooms and corridors. There was no bottled water in the room and no fridge to store my own bottled water that I had to buy. Geraldine even offered me her own bottled water which I declined but how very kind to offer me! One of the receptionists in the morning was not very friendly/cheerful but thankfully, I did not have to have too much contact with her There were some distubances outside the hotel reception area which caused concerns for myself and other guests. However, it did not affect me personally

The Mollington Banastre is a once-grand property in sore need of renovation in some areas. The reception, and downstairs areas were in good order, but the bedroom we stayed in was scruffy! It was a pet-friendly room, so I didn't expect it to be plushly furnished, but I also didn't expect the curtains to be in tatters! On the flip side, the breakfast was good and the staff were pleasant and welcoming. At £100/night on average, plus a per surcharge of £15, it was a bit steep!

Our stay was ok. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and using the swimming pool. Didnt eat in the restaurant as wasnt much choice so had to order a takeaway. Service was ok. Had to wait a while to be served at the bar. Not enough staff. Drinks extremely over priced, £19.50 for 1 beer and a double gin and tonic. Shocking.

Room was very nice. Originally hadn’t booked for breakfast but decided for £10 each we would add it to the stay. Unfortunately the hotel was very understaffed and breakfast was quite chaotic. The breakfast was ok but we had to wait for clean plates, glasses, food to be replenished. A bit disappointing. Staff were lovely and did well under such circumstances

Two night trip away with my partner & 2 year old son. Standard Queen room. Was clean and cosy enough. A cot was provided in our room as requested. Plenty of space in the room also. Around a 7-8 minute drive to both Chester Zoo & Chester Centre. We got a taxi into the centre 1 night (£8). Would recommend the Sergios Italian Restaurant. Didnt experience the spa services so cant comment. Chose not to get breakfast for £15 and instead went for breakfast 3 minutes down the road at The Wheatsheaf (£4.99) all you can eat breakfast.

Stayed two nights in twin room. Hotel is in need of an update. Our room was clean but wardrobe doors would not shut, shower head fittings falling apart, toilet difficult to flush. Hotel surroundings are lovely, the pool and fitness facilities are good. Staff all very nice and helpful. Restaurant food quality hit and miss, my pasta was good, my wife's fish and chips was poor.

Excellent hotel in a very nice setting, location is very quiet and peaceful for a nice break. The hotel has a nice size pool with jacuzzi hot tub and sauna which is definitely a luxury. Good selections for breakfast and dinner including room service if you prefer, but overall I have to say the staff are excellent - my partner and I have stayed here before and the staff are extremely polite and personable which adds to the charm of the hotel!

Very dated. Rooms and hotel has a floaty smell. Rooms was clean but sheets felt cheap. Breakfast is poor not much options. Coffee was stone cold. Abit over priced for what we got.

Last minute stop and photos don’t match the reality, staff were pleasant and evening meal and breakfast were ok. Corby trouser press from the 1970’s is an indication of the time warp this hotel is in. Fire alarm sounded at 2:30am nobody explained what was going on. Over charged by £19 for my evening meal which I luckily saw on the bill and have removed. Use Hotels every week and this was not what I experience as a norm.

We were subsequently offered a complimentary breakfast for the 2nd morning however due to our unsettling experience in the restaurant for our evening meal on the first night I did not wish to put my child in that same environment again and checked out at the earliest opportunity. During our stay it was made known to me that this hotel is a halfway house for local council waiting list and is widely known locally for this. Awful experience.
Booked for 2 nights as local to Chester zoo & outside of city centre. Travelling alone with young child. The corridor to our room distinctly smelt of cannabis clearly coming from one of the rooms, I did not raise this as felt this was strong enough for the hotel staff to recognise themselves. We had our evening meal on 1st night in the restaurant, the food was not great for the price, and had to move as we were initially seated under a dripping conservatory overhead window. The bar area next to the restaurant was loud and felt rough. I did not feel safe in this environment with my child. We went back to our room but did not sleep due to paper thin walls and the noise being unbearable due to drunken rumblings, banging and music from the room above and a child screaming throughout the night from the same room, understandably. Additionally the mattress had a hole in it the size of a small football. At 6am I raised my concerns with staff and were given a different room for night 2. Our room was huge, clean and the bed was comfortable. Before our evening meal we went to the spa. On arriving at the spa reception we were told the hot tub wasn\'t working but would be tomorrow and that everything else was working. Unfortunately this was untrue as the heating for the changing rooms and poolside area was very cold and the steam room was broken. Usually, we\'d spend a few hours in a hotel spa area. We lasted 20mins! Our evening meal was nice but overpriced for what it was. Breakfast was very hectic, with little choice and the cereal was just in uncovered bowls. I had to ask for some "well done" sausages as the ones on offer were pink. After breakfast we returned to the spa where most of the lights were turned off, nobody was at the reception either (this was 11am and it opened at 8am). The hot tub was working but was a cold tub so nobody used it. Changing areas and poolside still cold. It started to rain which produced considerable leaks from the roof onto the poolside in several areas. Sufficed to say we didnt stay long! With some investment and attention to detail this hotel could be so much better.

Our stay was ok. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and using the swimming pool. Didnt eat in the restaurant as wasnt much choice so had to order a takeaway. Service was ok. Had to wait a while to be served at the bar. Not enough staff. Drinks extremely over priced, £19.50 for 1 beer and a double gin and tonic. Shocking.

Room was very nice. Originally hadn’t booked for breakfast but decided for £10 each we would add it to the stay. Unfortunately the hotel was very understaffed and breakfast was quite chaotic. The breakfast was ok but we had to wait for clean plates, glasses, food to be replenished. A bit disappointing. Staff were lovely and did well under such circumstances

AWFUL!! Parking is good. I booked it because it had a "spa". The sauna was smaller than most broomclosets could seat 2 ppl (in the dark) wood splitting and worn. The changing rooms were tired, old broken floor tiles everywhere, blown wooden fixtures, bring your own padlock 4 lockers. Dirty floor arpubd edges. The pool water had a green hue. There was wobbly tiles under foot under the water and a random unmarked step a fair distance from where the others stopped. Missing tiles under water. The room carpet was awful. There wasnt a bin in bathroom, no sanitary bags for ppl to use, bathroom was in the loft space so big but had laminate floor which had split apart at alot of the joins, no extractor fan either with a really hard to turn shower tap. The light switch in the main room was loose. There was no tea spoons, curtains, fridge, ANY USB plugs or even a chair! The furniture was ancient and rough and the TV was just plopped onto a coffee table. OK on now to the breakfast!! WHAT A JOKE. Im currently sat typing this in Greggs as the coffee at the hotel was wrank! The yoghurt were tesco value as I assume was the eggs (tasted of nothing) sausages thick skin tough with no flavour, greasy bacon the only nice thing was the fried mushrooms! Update: I've since spoken to the owner (from South coast) told me they've been struggling since covid etc. He also offered me a £40 refund if I stated in an email that I wouldn't leave a negative review, I chose to leave this review instead.

Really nice chilled 2 days here with my wife. What an amazing space this is, beautiful gardens, good gym and pool. A bit old fashioned but oozing character, huge open spaces everywhere you look. Food was nice. Definitely would recommend 👌

Plenty parking space, friendly staff and quick check-in but with this heat, the hotel does not offer air conditioning so the corridors aswell as the room were unbearable to be in! A small plastic fan was available in the room. Other than that, there was very little option to deal with the temperature unless you want to spend your night in the shower. Also, our mattress was awful and had a big hole. See pictures. What a shame as the hotel offers a very beautiful garden.
