People were very nice. The room was spacious, clean, and cool but it felt damp. Breakfast area was nice. Lobby was large and clean. Parking was quite sufficient. I was very disappointed that the lobby computer was not working and that both desk people seemed to pass the buck to someone else or to a personal circumstance ("I didn't know). Plenty of restaurants and gas close by.

After reading the reviews I had high expectations, so I was disappointed. The location was safe and the bed comfy, but the shower we thought had no hot water, only to call reception and be told it was ‘back to front’ so cold = hot and vice versa. It would have been nice to have been told about this when we checked in. The tv didn’t work but we got a new remote quickly so this wasn’t the end of the world. Breakfast was ok- not amazing as the other reviews led me to believe. The gym was really basic too. Value for money wise, this wasn’t great. It’s comparable to a motel 6 really

It should be more clearly stated and advertised that the swimming pool is closed after certain dates. The pool is touted as a selling point and is a factor in choosing the hotel over others. It was 88-90 degrees and sunny during our stay but the pool was closed as of October 1st. Very disappointed.

The property was itself was clean but highly scented from the products utilized for daily cleaning. The parking lot was clean, well lit, with plenty of parking. The vending machine took my money but staff was more than happy to give me a refund. What I did not like was the lavatory in the bathroom. The water in the shower did not get hot, it was luke warm. You had to flush the toilet multiple times and sometimes you had to wait for a few minutes and try again which was very annoying especially if you did no. 2. Also, one of the elevators broke down on the day we arrived and was not repaired the day we left.

I brought my daughter up to see her specialist in Birmingham. My mother also came with us. Pros: - Convenient for price - Quick breakfast - Microwave/Fridge in room. Cons: - Rooms are too small (ok for solo/couple but no more than 2 people). - Bathroom is small (not designed for children. The hotel was decent, and for the most part clean, however, the smell in the room was almost a deal breaker. It smelled so strong that I would have asked to trade rooms if I hadn’t spoken with another patron down the hall and theirs was just as bad. I chose the hotel because of the 4.8 rating but was disappointed. We only spent one night and the staff was nice but I won’t be back.

To be fair, there was only one staff member who was terrible and I sure hope his management helps him learn how to better handle guests. After my flight was cancelled on the first day of my 2-night stay, I called the hotel to say I would not be arriving until the next day. The same man who checked me in the next day was the one who answered the phone that night and warned me that my whole reservation would probably be cancelled if I "no-showed." I explained that I would be arriving as soon as there was another flight. However, when we arrived the next day our 2-night stay had indeed been cancelled. When I asked if our room had been sold to someone else he told me "no." So I asked to please be given a room and he told me I\'d have to pay again. I was not refunded for my pre-paid stay when they cancelled -- he wanted more money in addition. So of course I asked to speak with a manager. No manager appeared to be on-site, and the front desk attendant refused to call someone to help. It wasn\'t until I called the Choice Hotels 800 number and explained my situation that he decided to get permission to reinstate my reservation. This was our 2nd stay at this particular location which is nice and close to the college my daughter is thinking of attending. I\'m disappointed that this happened and hope for better trained attendants if we ever return.

You get what you pay for. Property feels like it's been upgraded but with lots of little details missed. Check in was a nightmare as the only person working the front desk was busy helping a guest with an issue so front desk was unattended for so long that we waited and waited and then left finally and came back to check in since we had already paid for the room. If we hadn't paid, we wouldn't have come back. It would be good if the attendant left a mobile number to reach him or have the front desk phone be forwarded to a mobile phone. This was infuriating

I chose this location because it’s close to UAB hospital and affordable. It’s in a seemingly safe location right off of the highway. I was alone most of the time, coming and going all hours of the day. I was comfortable and would definitely stay again.

The staff was friendly. We enjoyed our room. the bed was very comfortable. Also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There was plenty to choose from.

It was in a good location off of the freeway but the room was musty smelling and, in general, in need of some updates. The breakfast was not great; choices could have been added to make it better.

Breakfast should have some variety on the protein each day. gets old eating the same thing daily. maybe alternate bacon/sausage. would be nice to have potatoes and some fresh fruit.

Really needed a deep cleaning. Bathroom floors really needed to be cleaned .mold around the tub Looks like the upgrades were done very cheaply.

Find another hotel in the area. This one is disgusting. Tub/shower is gross and wouldn’t drain. Stains on the linens. Ceiling in bathroom peeling. Plus I paid the pet fee and they called our room shortly after we unpacked and told me I needed to come to the front desk and pay the pet fee TONIGHT! Couldn’t wait til tomorrow to get it figured out. They demanded they charge our credit card. I want a refund! We were overcharged for this disgusting place! Never again

This was a decent hotel with clean, comfortable rooms. The breakfast was fine, the food hot. I would definitely recommend it for a one to 3 night stay for anyone.
