We arrived to find out that you had to pay to be in the pool that’s heavily advertised on the hotel page. £25 for 4 hours? Each? And it isn’t available for children either. It was very much the reason for staying and so we were severely disappointed.

A mixed bag. The hotel really caters for large groups, (golfers, conferences, weddings etc) so as a couple we felt ignored. Our room was not refreshed, our TV didn't work and it took 2 out of our 3 evenings there for it to be sorted, we seemed to have a party outside our room until 3am. It is a shame because the spa( extra payment) is lovely and the position of the hotel couldn't be better but not for a couple seeking a weekend away in a country house hotel.

Beautiful hotel. No room service and restaurant closed early so had to order takeaway as all restaurants nearby close early too. Pool is lovely but we didn’t use it as extra £60 each and was fully booked.

The hotel was ok. The breakfast was good. The building was nice. However it was not worth the money due to having to pay £60.00 per person for the spa. So basically £60.00 for a swim on top of the stay. I've been in dozens of hotels in the UK and never ever paid for the spa. Therefore I won't be returning

The hotel and grounds are impressive overall, and the staff and service and breakfast excellent. Sadly the facilities are tired, the rooms have peeling wallpaper and grubby doors and carpets, there was no bath mat, the pillows were not great. The charge to use the pool was ok though cleanliness and paint in the spa needs addressing. Hot tub was not overly hot. I wouldn't want to pay double room prices (I had a single this time) but hope it improves in future as it is a fun place to visit. The golf course looks amazing.

Hotel is undergoing refurbishment and this is not made clear when booking. Nor is the fact that the spa/restaurant need booking prior to arrival. We arrived to be told only bar menu available. Restaurant fully booked and spa also, not even allowed general pool access!

The hotel overall, was tired and all communal areas were dirty. Our room was so far away from reception we were almost in a different postcode to the main hotel. One of our party had limited mobility and traversing the hotel was incredibly challenging with lifts out of order and a ‘rabbit warren’ of corridors that are not signposted clearly. On the way to our room (357) the corridors are strewn with mismatched dusty, stained furniture that clearly looks as though they have been dumped there for want of a better place to put them. The carpets, doors and walls are worn and dirty. The bathroom clearly hadn’t been refurbished since the 90’s. It was old and appeared dirty and stained. Breakfast was far from adequate in a room that had stained furniture and disgusting carpets. Poor choice of continental breakfast foods. I will be placing a review on trip advisor and contacting the manager

We were really looking forward to our stay, but unfortunately we left feeling disappointed. The biggest letdown was the quality of the bedroom. The carpet was threadbare, the bathroom was very dated with cracks in the sink, and there were toothpaste splashes on the bath panel. Surfaces like the lamps, TV and pictures were dusty, and the cups were cracked with a dirty spoon provided. The shower was poor – very weak pressure and it kept falling off – and Wi-Fi in the room was unreliable, making it hard to use the internet. The main corridor carpets were also very worn and the area was in need of redecoration. Overall, the room felt tired and uncared for, and not at all what we expected for the price. We were also disappointed that use of the swimming pool wasn’t included in the stay. It’s the first thing you see in the hotel’s marketing photos, which feels quite misleading. On the positive side, the hotel grounds are lovely. The drive up is really impressive, the building itself is stunning from the outside, and the golf course and spa look great. Reception, the bar and the breakfast area appear recently refurbished and have a really nice atmosphere. Breakfast was buffet-style with a good variety – a full English along with pastries, toast, fruit and yoghurts. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, and we really appreciated the complimentary drink to celebrate our anniversary.

Location and outside the hotel absolutely amazing and the check into the room was swift and easy however everything else sub-par When entering the room, TV covered in dust, sanitary towels still in the bins, bathroom floor cracked and broken, shower hanging off the wall. Waiting times at the bar absolutely ridiculous as all other bars appear to be closed. Disappointing

The room [138] was lovely but was let down by the absolute distasteful condition of the reading table. I spent an hour trying to remove congealed food remains from the surface. To no avail. Was only staying the one night so thought best not to hassle the management. Breakfast was gorgeous, bumped into the best of the Legends from Strictly and that made up for the aberration. Hope management will pick up this review if only to give that table a firm thorough polish!!

Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Money We were really let down by our stay at Shrigley Hall. At check-in, no one told us breakfast times. When we arrived at our room, it was still being cleaned — we had to wait around the corner to ensure it wasn’t rushed. Once inside, the room was dirty: flies on the windowsill, a huge moth flying around, ripped carpet, glass bottles left by the previous guest, dusty surfaces, an old TV, and a curtain half-hanging off. There were no phone numbers provided for reception, and when I went down to complain, I was ignored — no one came to help. We had booked afternoon tea, which was served in a nice setting with polite staff, but we were asked for a Groupon code despite paying full price. The food was awful: basic kids’ sandwiches (ham, cheese, tuna, egg mayo), no garnish or effort, plain cake and a biscuit. The scone was the only good part. I found out later the same tea was £17 on Groupon — we paid £44 for two. Total rip-off. The spa twilight package was also disappointing. We waited 20 minutes at a closed bar before entry. The spa was overcrowded and basic. The pool was average, the outdoor pool was nice but packed, and although the hot tub was decent, the whole experience was chaotic and far from relaxing. Shrigley Hall looks nice from the outside, but the reality is poor service, dirty rooms, overpriced food, and a stressful spa. Wouldn’t return or recommend.

We liked the location. We did not like the dirty room, unsafe bathroom, dirty furniture particularly in the Dining room but generally. No eggs at breakfast resulting in powdered scrambled egg!! Most importantly was the grubby, dirty condition of the hotel. The path from the car park to the hotel is very uneven with a broken surface. It’s particularly unsafe at night because it’s so badly lit. This is one of the poorest quality hotels I have ever stayed in.
We liked the location. We did not like the dirty room, unsafe bathroom, dirty furniture particularly in the Dining room but generally. No eggs at breakfast resulting in powdered scrambled egg!! Most importantly was the grubby, dirty condition of the hotel. The path from the car park to the hotel is very uneven with a broken surface. It’s particularly unsafe at night because it’s so badly lit. This is one of the poorest quality hotels I have ever stayed in.

The hotel is extremely dated and absolutely not worth nearly £300 we paid for our deluxe room. Room was spacious but everything else did not match 4 star hotel mark. Old and dated bathroom, no plug sockets next to bed, no mini fridge in the room and very dark (even during the day) without enough lights in the room to make it bright. The corridor leading to the room had a musky unpleasant smell it was quite overwhelming. The overall hotel staff service was outstanding and very friendly, from the hotel reception to breakfast staff.

No Tv Remote and even when we got a member of staff to help, he couldn't get it to work. No toiletries included. No main light so really dark. Really dated room. Really noisy, lots of banging which woke us up. Was glad to leave.

Good comfortable room, lots of tea, coffe, nice bar and lovely grounds. Probably would gave rated higher but noisy event on and was awakened by noisy people in the early hours (not hotels fault). Disadvantage is the place is like a rabbit warren and you'll need your hiking boots as rooms are far from reception.

We were really looking forward to our stay, but unfortunately we left feeling disappointed. The biggest letdown was the quality of the bedroom. The carpet was threadbare, the bathroom was very dated with cracks in the sink, and there were toothpaste splashes on the bath panel. Surfaces like the lamps, TV and pictures were dusty, and the cups were cracked with a dirty spoon provided. The shower was poor – very weak pressure and it kept falling off – and Wi-Fi in the room was unreliable, making it hard to use the internet. The main corridor carpets were also very worn and the area was in need of redecoration. Overall, the room felt tired and uncared for, and not at all what we expected for the price. We were also disappointed that use of the swimming pool wasn’t included in the stay. It’s the first thing you see in the hotel’s marketing photos, which feels quite misleading. On the positive side, the hotel grounds are lovely. The drive up is really impressive, the building itself is stunning from the outside, and the golf course and spa look great. Reception, the bar and the breakfast area appear recently refurbished and have a really nice atmosphere. Breakfast was buffet-style with a good variety – a full English along with pastries, toast, fruit and yoghurts. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, and we really appreciated the complimentary drink to celebrate our anniversary.

Room was newly decorated but cold single glazed windows means the room was cold. Two Freestanding electric heaters were in the room but no available plug sockets to connect them too.

Paid for a deluxe room was given a smokers den that absolutely stunk, changed to another room which was above the bar so I had the fortune of listening to drunks outside till late at night. The carpets were stained utility’s and furnishings extremely dated and worn out. Restaurant serves cheap nasty cuts of meat for extortionate prices I almost thought I was in Dublin with a pint of guiness over £8 !!!! Oh yes you have the luxury of sitting amongst food stained walls floors in the restaurant. Bar was understaffed impossible to order drinks. This place has gone down hill allot!! The only saving grace is the gym is exceptional and has plenty of equipment.

Room overlooked courtyard and bar so wedding guests stayed drinking until 2am. Noise kept us awake. Thought that it would be better if all wedding guests had rooms overlooking the bar area. Given alternative room which was much quieter. Bar staff and kitchen very slow to serve and deliver meals.

Love shrigley Hall this is my third stay , absolutely stunning lovely room decorated in an authentic to the area however although bed was comfy the pillows felt old and cheap. Around 6 pm we sat in the room next to restaurant lovely seating beautiful view. We were told the bar was last orders which is fair. My mum and I were still sipping on our champagne and then the vacuum cleaner turned on -the peace had gone and felt forced out of the room! The colleague who checked us in was brilliant and I loved the flowers around the back drop of the reception. I will definitely return to Shrigley

Within the first hour after check in one of the staff used their keycard and entered me and my wifes room. Made no apology for barging in and left. The water in the shower was cold wouldn't get hot complained to the staff but nothing was done. Had to use my puregym membership to have a hot shower in the morning in Manchester instead. And didnt explain that we needed to book the spa spoke to the staff and they told us we can come at any time during the opening hours. When i went to use the spa the staff memeber then told us we couldn't use it as we hadnt booked. None of this was communicated with us when we checked in.

Stayed for my hen party in my own room, had some spiders in it, my mates loo had wee in it when we arrived! There was no night staff to help my other friend when she was being harassed by a group of men knocking on the door for over 4 hours in their underwear and running off! Night security should be a priory! Spa was not fully functional so I left a little disappointed! Not much vegetarian breakfast choice! Room had a strange rumble which I’m thinking could have been the fans from other rooms

Having arrived we were met by a very cold receptionist who told us to come back at 3pm. We did and greeted better, but still like we were doing them a favour. We were assigned our first room in which we turned around and came out of and asked to change room due to its cleanliness. Again met with attitude at reception, but were assigned a different room which was not much better, but we gave up hope of getting a clean room. During our stay we observed cleaning staff sat on beds watching things in their phone, a none attentive breakfast service. The smell of weed in the lift. The whole place needs a facelift and someone to do a walk around with their eyes open because it’s is dilapidated and dirty. The bar’s price point is higher than its standard. At newly £8 a beer, you would expect a clean and comfortable environment. I would not recommend and because of this i would not stay in any of the other hotels in the group. Extremely disappointing. The grounds look nice, but the first impressions from the car park are overflowing bins. The spar and pool look nice, be we did not venture in. The peacocks on the grounds are nice. But as soon as you go inside, the place disappoints. We stayed in 256 and don’t remember the first room number on the first floor. Avoid for the price!

Room was very comfortable, check in and out efficient most of the staff were very pleasant. Only one soured this part of the experience. The service levels were below par, two busy bars and lack of staff to cope. Given that this was a preplanned wedding it should have been resourced better.

Hotel is undergoing refurbishment and this is not made clear when booking. Nor is the fact that the spa/restaurant need booking prior to arrival. We arrived to be told only bar menu available. Restaurant fully booked and spa also, not even allowed general pool access!

Lovely and peaceful break. Lots of walks nearby had the weather been clement. Lots of local pubs nearby in Bollington. Good breakfast and lovely dining room. Room very clean and warm. Can hook up to hotel wifi.

Lovely historical building with remarkable views. Main guest areas are of good condition but rooms need a bit of maintenance / refreshing. After delay at check in, was provided initially with room not make up then one with sewage smell. Breakfast good. Staff friendly and helpful. Peacocks lovely to see about hotel grounds, but may disturb sleep.

Great Hotel once your inside but the walk from the car park is sadly along one. On the day we checked out it raining heavily and I was soaked by the time we got to the car. Room 128 was clean and tidy, but dated. Lights didn't work, cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, sockets and plugs were loose. Nothing that wasn't liveable but in a place like this, its all in the small details. Bar area and Restaurant were perfect, food was amazing both for the evening meal and breakfast. Staff were great too.

Nice room with bath, kettle etc Bed comfortable. Breakfast good although 7.20 start a bit late. As historic building a lot of stairs. Back route from car park not entirely clear on a stormy day. Staff friendly and helpful.Good value.

The main hotel was very nice, large car park, the receptionist was very friendly and the grounds were well maintained however the road leading up to the hotel has lots of potholes, the room we stayed in was very basic with mould in the bathroom and cobwebs on the walls, the lift was out of order for our entire stay and there were a lot of stairs.

We stayed only for 2 nights, as we were visiting RHS Tatton Park we found the food in the bar was better than in the restaurant as it was more relaxed, and had a nice courtyard to eat your meal in.

We had dinner at the hotel one night and it was not great food. Staff were all pleasant enough. Strangely they do not sell crisps,, peanuts etc. in the bars - I don’t think I have ever experienced this before.

I do love this place but the food varies each time I stay. I stayed in May for a personal visit and the food was great, but this time, the dinner was poor. Given the price of the meal, it was very disappointing. Breakfast is fab though. Staff all helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable. I preferred being in the main house as not so far to carry bags.

The hotel from the outside, lobby, bar and restaurant look nice. The corridors, bathroom and bedroom however was very dated with a very uncomfortable small bed. The staff are friendly enough but not 4*. We were put in a room at the far side of the hotel which wasn’t easy to access with all our luggage and no assistance provided. I would stay here again for 1 night on a business trip, but definitely not for a couples getaway. Ps. the seasonal vegetables is a bowl of beetroot

Bedrooms dated but bed so comfy - good temperature in the room for this I would stay again. Drinks astronomically priced in the bar area - didn't eat in the hotel I ate elsewhere.. No tables were being cleared or cleaned which was annoying to see given the price of the drinks. mistakes rectified only because I questioned why I was charged so much without any menus being available. The building itself is gorgeous - lovely setting! Spa looks nice but wouldn't pay £40 as a resident in all honesty

I travelled with my husband and my sister to shrigley hall. We stayed in a lovely suite with two bedrooms when ch were beautifully decorated and had all the amenities we required. We went on a lovely walk from a guide which reception gave us and which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone.

First impressions of the front of the hotel are really nice and the reception is also nice but that's where it ends..... It's a complete labyrinth of a place with signage taking you all over . My room was a family room at the rear of the building,with mis match furniture all over and a musty smell to match. My room was in a poor condition,with marks over the wall,chipped paint and window that haven't been cleaned since it was built. The bathroom is awful with a sink that doesn't drain and black mould around the bath. How can u.k hotels get is so wrong. After parking the car there is also another delight, rubbish all over, old carpets just left to rot,rubbish bins over flowing. This place needs a refurb. Would I stay for free......🤔 No I will pass thanks.
First impressions of the front of the hotel are really nice and the reception is also nice but that's where it ends..... It's a complete labyrinth of a place with signage taking you all over . My room was a family room at the rear of the building,with mis match furniture all over and a musty smell to match. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, but the accomodation is dated and you need to pay for the spa access on top of the hotel. 20-50 gbp depending on the time. We had a lovely stay and would go back but only if there was a deal in the price. It is also very close to Manchester airport which is great
