I have booked a stay in the above hotel and paid full amount through online for one night (04/05/2025-check in date and 05/05/2025-checkout date). I with family (wife and 1.5 years old) reached at hotel around 6 pm and a man in reception ( ? Barry, Manager not sure the name, the other staff says his name in his absence) welcomed me. He asked my debit card for identification purpose, I was shocked but he insisted saying that said it’s for confirmation purpose . I gave my card, he told no money will be deducted. He also said that it may show a pending transaction in my account, but no money will be deducted. But later I found out that it’s not pending transaction, he took £ 90.47 from my account. At the same night I filed a police compliant and luckily I got my money back after two days. But I emotionally stressed and worried about that money the entire two days. Second thing about the stay was that room was not maintained enough to give a proper rating to this hotel. Lift was also not working and I was struggled to go upstairs with my luggage and my 1.5 years old baby.

Well run hotel in the older style. Good size of room and bathroom and in a clean state. If staying on the upper 3/F the lift tends to be a bit slow. The restaurant and bar were excellent with a great atmosphere.

If I had read my emails before arrival I would’ve found out about the parking being over the road but even so, staff at reception gave me all the information I needed and allocated a permit for us. Everywhere was so clean and neat and the reception staff were so helpful and engaging, giving us some local information and also discussing driving routes etc. room was beautiful- lovely deep bath, iron and board, hairdryer all good quality. Only issue we had was the heating, we couldn’t turn it down but it wasn’t too much of a hassle to us. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking. Close to main centre, shopping and entertainment- we did use the bar but not the restaurant and we found it lively and clean and again lovely staff

Return stay at the DoE. Service is spot on, too few hotels recognise the significance of personalised service... The DoE pays attentions to the small and big things that make a real difference. Bar/restaurant food is very good at dinner and breakfast. Great location near the train station and complimentary parking.

We've stayed at the Hotel several times over the years, always provide a great service with clean, modern rooms that are both warm and comfortable with everything you need for a short or long stay. Priced very fairly and the choice of drinks at the bar is excellent, breakfast is amazing and you certainly won't go hungry. Looking forward to my return in the new year.

Lovely hotel with lots of original features. Rooms were spotless, good decorative standard and the beds are so comfortable. Air conditioning and heating you can control yourself. DH Lawrence stayed there once. Good location, free parking, near to shops, but not too close. They do the best bourbon Ive ever tasted and lots of different drinks like English vodka. Only thing Id rate less than 5 stars was the night porter who I just found a bit difficult, not that helpful and a little odd, but that is only my opinion!

I’m a regular visitor to the town while I’m helping our son and his partner modernise a house which they’ve recently bought thst. This is a gem of a hotel which I will be staying at whenever I’m visiting from now on. Check in was very friendly and efficient. The room was lovely. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Tea and coffee making facilities were generously stocked. The bathroom was spotless and was a good size with a nice powerful shower. The restaurant has a good variety of reasonably priced meals and an extensive selection of beers to help you unwind after a hard day. Breakfast was the same quality as everything else at the hotel and very reasonably priced. I’m looking forward to staying again when I visit again in a couple of weeks.

The room was spacious quiet & comfortable what let it down was "Big Brother" controlling the aircon. Last night and this morning it was stuck on an uncomfortable 25 degrees C and to change you had to contact reception!! with no phone in the room. Also the ironing biard was worn and the iron was average. I would stay somewhere else next time. Why not let guests control their room own temp !!!

The room is clean and tidy with everything you need. Little treats like oat cookies provided are really good as sometimes when you arrived after a long drive with really adverse weather, these little treats helps a lot. All the staff are really helpful , cheerful and efficient. The restaurant downstairs is a must go. The air-condition inside the room can not be adjusted and there is no hair dryer available inside the room as well.

We had a lovely one-night stay for my birthday. The staff were friendly and we were given a room upgrade which was a great birthday treat. The original staircase is gorgeous and our room was spacious with a lovely en-suite. The breakfast was great too. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The room was a executive double , the room was a great size with a large very comfy bed . The bathroom was massive and felt very luxurious . The bedroom itself was a little tired , the carpet a little thin though it was spotlessly clean . Good value for money will use again for sure .

nice hotel, food lovely, staff friendly, we were in the top of the hotel, could hear next doors tv, sdespite soundproofing, had velux windows so no view, lots of the room was on different levels ie step up and down throughout the room

I always stay here when I visit Barrow. It is a stones throw from the railway station and close to local bus routes. The hotel just has a really nice ambience. Extremely impressed with the Duke of Edinburgh Very clean, comfortable and peaceful The gentleman on reception was very kind when I asked for a quiet room, as had to be up early for work so needed a solid nights sleep Could not fault it in any way Very good value too ! Highly recommend

If I had read my emails before arrival I would’ve found out about the parking being over the road but even so, staff at reception gave me all the information I needed and allocated a permit for us. Everywhere was so clean and neat and the reception staff were so helpful and engaging, giving us some local information and also discussing driving routes etc. room was beautiful- lovely deep bath, iron and board, hairdryer all good quality. Only issue we had was the heating, we couldn’t turn it down but it wasn’t too much of a hassle to us. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking. Close to main centre, shopping and entertainment- we did use the bar but not the restaurant and we found it lively and clean and again lovely staff

Road noise from the yokels racing around is disruptive, area not safe for wandering around, dinner was tepid as if it had been waiting at the pass for top long, unlikely to stay again.

Lovely hotel, great location - lovely staff and top food. We had a roof room in the eaves, beautiful room & a great shower. We will stay again next year for Dave Day for sure.

I’m a regular visitor to the town while I’m helping our son and his partner modernise a house which they’ve recently bought thst. This is a gem of a hotel which I will be staying at whenever I’m visiting from now on. Check in was very friendly and efficient. The room was lovely. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. Tea and coffee making facilities were generously stocked. The bathroom was spotless and was a good size with a nice powerful shower. The restaurant has a good variety of reasonably priced meals and an extensive selection of beers to help you unwind after a hard day. Breakfast was the same quality as everything else at the hotel and very reasonably priced. I’m looking forward to staying again when I visit again in a couple of weeks.

This hotel was lovely staff were friendly but seemed busy. My only thing I can fault was the fact we booked it as it has a lift as my mum is elderly unfortunately the lift was broken so we had to walk 3 floors each time we left our room. Other than that it was a nice relaxing place the bar and food were top notch. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are in town. The plus was it had it's own carpark across the road.

While room was clean the street noice was awful as well as hearing tables being moved in the bar below. Curtains were off the hooks on one side so we never attempted to close them meaning street light was shinning in. Ordered a steak for dinner which was pink when I asked for well done, complained and was asked if I wanted a fresh steak or to reheat the one I complained about. Staff at reception were pleasant enough.
