Ox Hotel Carlisle

Been staying here for years used to be great with the pool and steam room gym etc now they arent in use..dissappointing.. nice clean room as always good shower and bath lovely staff..only downside now is a bad smell going through reception like a drain smell which needs addressing

Not good hotel , very basic , no draught beer no ice machine , the lift has been broken for years so and old people would struggle !! , the staff was lovely and very helpful but had to apologise about all the mistakes would not recommend this place to anyone ,

The hotel staff failed to validate my car parking with the car park management company, resulting in me receiving a penalty charge. I spoke with reception who took my details and assured me that the general manager would deal with it. Two weeks later i received a final demand, so the GM had clearly failed to do so. Multiple more calls were made, each time i was told that the GM had been emailed with a request to confirm he had contacted the parking company. I received no response. The situation is still unresolved and i am being threatened with debt collectors and court action. Before booking this hotel, ask yourself whether a cheap night's accommodation is worth so much stress.

Upon entering the car park there is very large pot holes, once you get around these you start seeing signs the car park costs money (tho as a guest I think it’s free) Headed to the blue badge spots where the only one left had a bike rack one end meaning the car stuck out a lot I am only able to walk short distances, and as there is no ramp to the front door (staff said they would have to get the ramp out if I needed it) my wife asked where our room was located, with the information of just around the corner I chose to walk our room wasn’t just round the corner and I only just managed to walk there Room smelt of damp, very basic, with NO plugs beside the bed for medical equipment, walls freshly painted, mattress was terrible but all linen was white clean and fresh Next morning head for breakfast, a set of stairs to get to the breakfast room, breakfast was ok but you had to eat in stages eggs would come out then 5 minutes later sausages another 5 minutes for the next item and so on, toast available with corn flakes or rice crispies are your only cereal choices Day 2 breakfast begins at 8am hot food not out til 20 past ish, car park was quite full and had 2 coaches also there having a larger car I had to take my time moving through the car park Overall a cheap hotel with basic facilities I believe there’s a gym there and a ping pong table, suited to workers / tradesmen that want clean with no frills

Property was very warm. Too warm. Car park had large holes in it.

Average accommodation. Staff were mostly good. The Hotel was very dated with incorrect information on the Website. Staff working on reception, bar and meal service and run off their feet. Pricing was in inconsistent between various apps and Hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable but very dated. Pool and laundry closed which was disappointing. Police visited often during my 10 day stay. Very hot in the rooms, bar, breakfast room and some parts of the building. I would not return to this Hotel and would not recommend it to anybody.

Room price was very cheap. So I guess you get what you pay for. Breakfast was good. Great gym. Hotel old but not in a good way. Çould do with a bit of money spent on it. We just needed a bed for night to break up a long journey to Scotland. Worked fine for us.

Tired looking exterior.Built in 1970’s I reckon.Very friendly,helpful,hardworking staff.room was clean,spacious and had everything you would expect.Had a decent bar and hot food available ,of a reasonable quality and at good price.A real bargain.i would certainly use again when in Carlisle.

It’s a good hotel location to get to Lake District, free large car park. Friendly greeting at reception on check-in. Should also mention handy EV charger (fast charger) for EV cars (which I used) just off main road. So not only can you recharge your battery but also the cars.

Staff were lovely but advertised pool and gym no entry first night virtually no food available on menu and no draught beers only bottled cider on no alcohol beer on sale

Room wash clean,bathroom was really clean and smelt fresh Bed was like sleeping on a cloud,i had 2 great nights sleep Staff were really helpfull

It was understaffed, dated, the receptionist was also the barman, waited 25 minutes for a drink as there was a queue waiting to check-in. Staff were friendly and helpful. Building was dated surrounded by tall weeds and litter. Double bed was 2 singles pushed together, both lumpy mattresses. But it was just a cheap 1 night stay to break up a long journey. You get what you pay for

The Ox Hotel is dated and a little tired but clean, comfortable beds, helpful staff and great value for money. Breakfast was basic choices, nothing fancy but more than adequate. Good selection of hot food choices, toast, couple of cereals, fruit juices, tea and coffee. There's a small gym, table tennis, pool table and darts. An ironing board in the room and iron provided at reception.

Staff were very friendly, one man to do reception and bar, that was ok too, but could take a while if reception busy, not the server's fault. Bar prices reasonable. Only thing was it looked not very nice from outside and funny smell in the morning in the corridor, it was like smoke stuff ughh. Breakfast was nice, bit of a miss mash as different items were put out at different times so breakfast took a while but we weren't in any hurry and enjoyed it, full buffet with toaster to make brown or white toast and tea or coffee.

Room was cleaned 2 out of 10 days. Bathroom smelled of dampness. Windows were dirty and with spider webs all over. 3 times i was waked up by false fire alarm. Poor breakfast: no fruits or veggies. Most of the food is fried. Dirty glasses for juice. Last 2 days breakfast was “cancelled “ because cook was sick. A mouse was walking freely in the breakfast area.

Looked derelict, room was gloomy, thick layer of dust on headboard. Bed and toilet was clean but we could not stay. We left and booked somewhere else

Absolutely disgusted. Mouldy in the bathroom and bedroom. Full of flues and cobwebs . No towels left. Our clothes and beds where actually damp wet to touch. Never ever will i stwy here again. 10/10 for the staff. Working hard all the time but not there fault the building works need doing or condemned

The room and bathroom were spotless and had all we needed for.our stay which eas comfortable. Breakfast buffet style was excellent. We would use this Hotel again and would recommend it. It us a secudes locations but close to shops nice and quiet

Hotel tired but was aware of that stayed 1night as a pitstop before carrying on on our journey into Scotland, the beds very clean and comfortable although very basic it did the job staff welcoming and break fast was fine buffet style but plenty to go around, I would stay again as a 1nighter,could not moan for £40 a room plus breakfast

But there is a lot that could be improved. The windows outside were filthy, the chair was ripped and marked, no bedside lamp, just a harsh ceiling light. Breakfast was adequate. Service fine and food well cooked and plentiful but quality of ingredients a bit poor (particularly the sausages). A great price for a stopover but not somewhere i'd choose to stay for an ocassion.

Beds wete uncomfortable .gave backache.guttering outside room was leaking and water running onto window sill kept us awake.

The staff member on check in was friendly, I couldn’t find anyone when I was leaving so left my key on the desk, some elements of the room require update but fine for the price.

The one member of staff that was on was very friendly even though he was on his own doing everything it all got done, even pulled a perfect Guinness 👌. Wasnt impressed with the room we had a double which should have been a double/king size bed but it was 2 singles put together. Furniture was old and a bit grubby. The bathroom had a dirty bath so avoided that. The noise at night led to a very restless sleep, definitely needs some kind of noise proofing. Ive rated this trip a 3 purely because of the staff and how polite and friendly they are. Unfortunately because of the other issues we had we wont be staying again due to lack of sleep and cleanliness.

Not a luxury stay but okay for bed for the night. Good location as food places within walking distance. A small cosy room, shower did not drain well and had not much pressure, no bedside lamps.

I had the window open all night and there wasn't a sound that disturbed me. Bed was clean, shower was bit pathetic. Would stay again

It was noisy at night. I reported it to the reception twice. The receptionist changed my room. The room was very hot because the heating pipes were in that room.

It’s perfect when you only have small budget. The only thing I wish was available is a fan , it was really hot in the room and zero breeze from the window so fan would have been very useful

Hot and cold water at bath toom to room 73 not working. Th heater also not working, but, the reception provide portable heater upon feedback. The reception and Cafe staff are friendly and helpful.

Check in was fab jack is brilliant very friendly and helpful showed us to our room which were together as had my 2 daughters with us, no heating in both rooms jack brought us up some heaters, but didnt heat up the room as daughters woke up really cold, no wifi either couldnt connect all of us so had to use our data. then went down for breakfast the room hadnt been cleared most table hadnt been cleared of plates etc, not much food choice either as had to wait for items to come out, then overheard from conversation that their was no hash browns or sausages which meant my daughters couldnt have breakfast so that was a waste of money. The male staff member was trying to sort stuff out but their was another member of staff at the reception who didnt help at all just stayed by reception. No one told any of the other customers that their was no sausages etc. We have stayed here every 2 weeks for the past 4 months and its normally fab and have already booked for next time and will continue to book as i think this hotel is fab just for some reason this weekend wasnt the best.

This was amazingly low cost and economic on your purse. The staff were very helpful, though they seemed a bit over worked. Be prepared for issues at breakfast though - they get a bit overwhelmed by in the mornings so you might find knives or forks or some items of food missing. This soon gets rectified though when people ask. When we were there reception staff had to help out a bit at breakfast time. The room we stayed in was clean and nice.

Several people had arrived to find that despite their reservations the hotel didn’t have a room for them. They were not happy. It took two trips back to reception to have my room entry card reprogrammed before I was able to get into my room. The room was average but tired

First class staff on reception very helpful nice bar area overall very good probably be there 4 nights a week till Christmas

Ok.. this place is cheap, i mean super cheap! You are not staying at the savoy, so drop your expectation and you wont be disappointed! Its clean, staff are lovely. Their beds i can only assume they got from guantanamo bay! My god ive never slept on something so uncomfortable. Its in need of some desperate renovation to bring it upto todays standards. Again.... its cheap as a campsite so i wasnt expecting too much. However for the price we paid.... id not discount it again should i be passing.

I only booked this because the Ox Hotel was the only thing available in the area on a Saturday night. The hotel is old fashioned but very clean, they're renovating parts of it, our room was dated but everything was functioning and we had what looked like a new bed with high quality linen. For the price we paid, I really can't quibble. Would I stay again, yes, if the price was low, I wouldn't pay anymore than we did.

Place is convenient for Anglo/Scottish road trips and is relatively clean at a very competitive rate.

Difficulty finding it - as it is NOT called Ox Hotel - some indication of this would be helpful when booking. The staff were pleasant. Room clean and quiet, bed comfortable, appliances and plumbing worked. Pie and mash supper was very basic and SO salty. I didn't have breakfast. It needs a thorough refurbishment, corridors smell of stale smoke, decoration tired to tatty.

2 day trip. Good value. Staff friendly. 15 minutes walk ro train station. Frequent bus service. Breakfast hit or miss. Would use again if ever in Carlisle again. Bedding, towels clean and fresh. Room clean.Bath room old but adequate.

The hotel is in an ideal location for the long trip north. 6 minutes from the m6. Very cost effective. Exactly what I was looking For. This is the new go to place for the trips to Scotland. By no means the ritz but it does what it need to do.

Room clean,smelt fresh, needs a few repairs. Cold shower,which could be an easy fix as water from taps was hot.Breakfast a bit poor,no bacon,no butter for toast,no white bread, empty plates not cleared from tables,think this was due minimal staff as receptionist was coming in now and again trying to do a bit. Stayed here before the boat people we're housed here and pool ,steam room,sauna and gym were all accessible but all closed off now.

Wernt advised that mon-friday is now continental but was only toast/cereal and drinks. Was no way a continental breakfast but i still paid the full price breakfast as hotel.com doesnt do the continental price.

Good Hotel for price paid. However paid for full cooked buffet breakfast the night before to find only half defrosted bread for toast and little cereal, nothing else. Partial refund was given but didn't really make up for it.
