Whitewater Hotel & Spa

Great building in a lovely location. Some areas of the hotel are a bit tired, but cleanliness was very good. Staff were welcoming and accommodating and our evening meal and breakfast was great. The free facilities of the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi at the leisure complex were an added bonus, although the beautiful view was hindered by the windows which needed cleaning. An easy fix! Overall, a lovely stay and great value for money.

I absolutely can not fault the staff. They were all lovely, attentive and would do anything to help. However, the facilities are dated. Beautiful building, but the room wasn’t the cleanest. There was crumbs on the windowsill, hairs in the bath so I had to wash the bath out before my family could use it after swimming and the bedding kept coming off the bottom of the bed during the night. It was a warm room too, even with the window open and the heating down (201) At breakfast nearly all the plates were dirty with food residue on it and my husband was a bit concerned as he has an allergy to gluten. The swimming pool was cold, the facilities were dated with tiles chipped off in places and on the outside of the hot tub. If this beautiful building had some money spent on it it would make an amazing stay. The view out or room was lovely - see attached. But I wouldn’t rush back, not really worth the price we paid.

Beautiful place, nice staff. We loved the large pool, hot tub, and sauna. Very decent hot break-fast in the morning and our room was large and comfortable. Only thing that would have been nice is to have a bar fridge in our room. The intended space was there for it, but it wasn’t there.

First impressions was a disheveled man at the desk complaining we were too early to check in. A lovely young lady came and checked us in no problem. The executive room overlooking the river was lovely although it needs a little updating. On closer inspection the room and bathroom needed a bit more cleaning. The lift wasn’t working which wasn’t really a problem for us. We went to the spa to be told the steam room and jacuzzi weren’t working, thought ok went in the pool it was absolutely freezing. Lay on the sun beds to warm up and the windows you couldn’t see out of them they were that dirty. A lovely view from there if you could see out we paid a lot of money for this experience so very disappointed The rest of the staff were lovely and the the food was lovely

Fabulous service, especially from Janet on reception. Also, amazing food, though not the best spa experience due to so many noisy children hogging the entire pool

Beds are comfortable, shower is strong and hot water is hot, rooms are clean, buffet breakfast is good. Leisure centre with swimming pool, steam room, spa and gym room just inside the hotel is a big credit. But the machines in the gym is a bit outdated. The river view right in front of the hotel is stunning.

Really enjoyed the Spa. Its free for hotel guests and included a pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, gym, squash court, table tennis table, dance studio. In addition there are more Spa facilities upstairs which require payment The hotel is in a lovely setting overlooking rapids on the river Leven. You can watch kayakers and white water rafters tackle fierce rapids passing under the bridge next to the hotel. You can also see the heritage steam train pass on the opposite hill.

Dated internal building. It's like a motel from the 90s Room was freezing when I got in at 9:30pm Went to bed at 10am after a long day only to hear the major A road zoom by every few minutes. Next day went for breakfast. It was very sparse of choice. No pastries during my time there toaster did not toast and staff simply rude. Now the pool area. Simply dated and undying scum. Spend two minutes in the cold pool and left. In daylight the noisy room was like the pool area. Still waiting for a call from the manger, who was to busy to speak with me at checkout.

This place gave us the impression of being a bit run down and lacking in care and a bit stingy with extras ( I packet of biscuits in the room, I loo roll, broken toaster in breakfast room, no menu to say you could have extras like poached eggs, no condiments on tables at breakfast , bar tables not cleaned or lights on the the eating area and crumbs on the chairs! )We ate in the bar twice and both times the food was fine but you really shouldn’t have to clean your own table and chairs, turn on lights etc should you?!?! I used the pool which was nice and nicely accessible for me however the changing room floor was treacherous as it was soaking wet. There needs to be more awareness that this isn’t a place that’s suitable for people with mobility issues. Both the restaurant and the bar had steps to access them. We thought initially the receptionist wasn’t very welcoming as we stood for quite a while waiting to check in while she was talking to staff members and she gave no acknowledgment that we were waiting, not a great first impression. The room and corridors seemed dated and dark and our room had an odd smell however it was clean ( apart from stains on the carpet) and comfortable.

sheets were not clean so was the room. No Hair dryer as well. Bath was not clean as well. Only thing good was the pool area which was clean.

It was right on the river, which was very nice. I loved that we could eat dinner there. The room was okay. I felt like it needed a good spring cleaning with cobwebs in all of the windows.

I didnt have a enjoyable experience staing with yourselfs the beds were very uncomfortable i have woke up with a bad back the rooms was very under par conditions towels were dirty the shower was dirty the room itself looked like it needs a deep clean

The public areas of the hotel are in good condition, clean and pleasant. However as I had a pet with me I was given a groundfloor room and charged an extra £20 per night for cleaning. The room itself had been cleaned well and the bed linen was fresh however the room in general wes not in a good state of repair the furniture was dated and scratched, the curtains frayed and the end of the curtain rail missing. The bathroom was dated the bath discoloured and had deep scratches in it and the side panel cracked. the screen also had mould on the edges. we had dinner in the restaurant the first night the food was reasonably priced and was nice. However, drinks were a little expensive. breakfast is self service and it was nice the Saturday morning. Sunday morning it was only half set up, dishes were not cleaned and very little choice of food put out.

Although it's in a lovely spot, it's more tired Travelodge than £115 a night hotel. Staff absolutely lovely. Didn't get a room with a balcony, although all "executive" rooms (which I paid for) are supposed to have them. That was disappointing. Maybe if I'd questioned it, we might have been moved, but I'm not the sort of person that can do that. Breakfast is self service and was perfectly adequate with plenty of choice (had to search through the plates for a clean one though). A little negative, sorry - again, staff great.

The restaurant was excellent although the service was slow as there was no Maitre d' at the door to welcome and we had to wait quite a few minutes to be seated. However, the waiter cleared a table for us efficiently upon request. The setting was perfect for our outdoor weekend: rapidly flowing river outside our window and lovely views into the valley. The room was comfortable and spacious fitting myself, my husband and grown son adequately.

Really lovely room. Big and peaceful. Comfortable bed. Lounge food fine, quick service.

Lovely room with a river view, room was massive with lovely big bed although a little hard for me, good facilities and lovely pool and spa made our stay.

Such a pleasant suprise, a beautiful hotel with clean rooms. Slightly dated but in condition. Gorgeous views and very friendly staff. There is also a lovely spa. Within a good distance from Lake windemere, ambleside and bowness walks (about 30 minutes). This is a beautiful and well priced spot for the south lake district exploring, highly recommend!

Tired property in need of modernising. Bathroom especially with poor shower pressure and the fixtures and fittings very outdated, with damaged peeling parts. The whole place just needs a refit. Shame because the location is lovely.

Nice location for what we needed. Hotel looks lovely from the outside with plenty of free parking. Inside reception was nice and staff were really friendly. Property a but dated but functional. Our roon was a let down and had a full on view of a sloped roof with a broken ladder on it we couldnt even see a tree. It made it very dark but i suppose, private! It didnt matter as much as we were out most of the time. Room was a bit dated but spacious and clean. The menu was a bit limited as we needed some pasta due to doing a run and there was nothing on there that was suitable for us so we had to eat out which was fine but would of liked tobhave eated there. The breakfast was nice with a cooked full english and then yoguhurts/cereal/toast available. I would say that it could possibly of been presented a bit better, maybe a bit more decoration? The spa was ok, pool was a bit cool but clean, the windows around the pool that looked onto the river were full of condensation so were all really misty and looked terrible. The steam room only worked for 1 day of our trip but the sauna was lovely, so was the indoor jacuzzi. The gym up stairs was ok but some of the gym equipment was really rusty and on the older side but again functional. I had a treatment whilst there but the massage felt a little rushed and actually bruised my shoulders as it was so repetitive. No advice was given to drink lots of water after which should be explained after a massage. I felt like it was very rushed .

First two rooms had no wifi and the third room I was given had no hot water in the shower. Not serving breakfast until 8 o'clock is way too late

The staff were ok. But the overall break was not!!! We went there to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary on the 2nd August but had to leave on the 2nd as we had arrived on the 1st. The receptionist was very difficult to understand and i thought he had just started as he seemed very confused. I had told the hotel we needed a room near the lift as i am on crutches and cannot walk very far, but he didnt know about it. It was sorted.out though eventually. Later we went for a drink in the bar but it empty, so we went downstairs to the other bar and that was the same, but the barman was abrupt and had a roll-up cigarette behind his ear. We went back upstairs but the bar was still empty. So we went for a meal in the restarent which had only two other people in it. Who left 10 mins later so we were on our own again. The meal was really nice but very expensive for what it was. We left and went to our room at 9pm. There was no coffee in the room as we had the only 2 sachets earlier. The next morning we went for breakfast which was cold and the scrambled egg had grey bits in it. The bacon was cold and the sausages were undercooked.we decided then to leave ear!y as i didnt fancy spending another night in such hopeless atmossphere. Especially as it was the day of our anniversary. So we paid our bill for the meal and said we were checking out early, and nobody asked for a reason. We definately will not be staying there again.

We booked a double room which ended up being on the lower ground floor, was dark and a bit musty. Not enough plug sockets and very dated (had a trouser press). The staff were either non-existent or doing multiple jobs so they weren't able to concentrate on any of them, consequently the service was pretty poor. Attention to detail was missing everywhere, dirty cutlery and cups on a few occasions. The restaurant was ok, staff were nice but seemed like they were always extremely busy even when it was quiet. Reception and main bar staff were mostly not present, you had to ring a bell which either made someone appear or didn't. The area around the hotel is lovely but I wouldn't recommend staying here

Another very enjoyable holiday at Whitewater. The staff are amazing, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Looking forward to our next stay there.

Staff on the 1st night and the following morning were really good - understood about our dairy allergies. The other mornings not so good - so were left hanging around waiting for foods

Found this a lovely little spot for a short break - easily accessible from M6 and giving access both to lakes and coast. Interesting building and loved the terraces for restaurant and bar overlooking the river. Really friendly staff and comfortable room.

Nice food at the restaurant but limited options for vegetarians/vegans, and expensive. Beautiful views of the river leading to Windermere but you can’t really travel anywhere on foot from the hotel as it leads directly from a 70mph dual carriageway. Hotel interiors are worn and dated, but clean overall.

The hotel itself although a little dated was charming. The staff were friendly and obliging but there may be more of them needed for busier times. Quiet location, nice spa, good breakfast, lots of info on local attractions including a leaflet on local walks. We had a very good stay and would return.

Location is beautiful

We really enjoyed our stay - however the property was lovely but a little tired and decor a bit out of date. The food was acceptable but not brilliant, on some days some of the breakfast items were cold. My daughters burger at dinner was also cold. However these elements were compensated for by the fantastic staff, they were all so lovely, friendly but not intrusive, and would do anything for you. The spa pool was nice (but again not quite as clean as I would like), and I was disappointed that with such beautiful views that the windows were quite dirty. We did find it a shame, that although advertised as a family spa hotel. 1, there are no treatments available on Sunday or Monday (not great if you are there for a weekend stay), and 2, they would not offer any treatments for under 18s - while I understand that for some treatments, I think a kids manicure or something similar would be a great addition to their offering. Location was great, and a nice walk to the local pub, and Haverthwaite railway. In summary - nice, but with a few non-expensive tweaks, likc of paint etc it could be amazing.

Hotel was clean, warm and welcoming. We booked it for two nights to basically relax using the spa and leisure facilities and it certainly ticked that box. The only negative was that the menu was very limited when it came to vegetarian options an example being a quinoa salad as the only main meal choice in the restaurant.

Some of the hotel is dated, leisure centre was nice. Breakfast was terrible so much so we only went on first day and the service was terrible.

We thoughly enjoyed our stay I would definitely recommend. And we'll be back next year. Its in such a lovely location. The breakfast and evening dinner was just lovely. Thanks to all the staff for your incredible service.

Lovely staff and great food, but please please please serve breakfast from at least 7am! 8am is just too late.

Lovely hotel and stunning setting. Very comfortable room and friendly staff. Great to have the swimming pool and near to great days out. The only problem was the very limited selection at breakfast
