The underground parking is very tight, I suggest a contortionist drives. Stairs to get into the hotel from the car park which was fine for me but not for others. Check in was ok, less good was being told ‘I hope you’re fit, the lift isn’t working’. I think asked if they had room service and was greeted with a pained expression and the receptionist told me about a Wetherspoon round the corner. After navigating the labrynthine corridors of the hotel I found my room it was small and when I went to close the curtains I discovered part of the inner wall missing - a little worrying and not what you expect from a Mercure. I missed breakfast after discovering a complete absence of shampoo in the shower and having to use alternatives which is less than ideal as my scalp is sensitive. The room was ok overall the bed not great but it did a job.

Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment. Excellent value for money. There is a car park however it is small and tight. We parked in DL1 about a 10 minute walk. Not a problem to us. Standard room has everything and decent size. We will use this hotel again.

The lift was out of order we weren't told when we booked the hotel wasn't full so could of put us on a lower floor not the 4th floor

Best located hotel in Darlington- in town centre. Friendly staff. Well kept hotel but needs an update, but great value for money as is. Has food and bar options. Parking limited on 1st come 1st served basis, so only got parking 1 of my 2 nights. No free parking in Darlington centre on any day. Still best place to stay in town.

Really could do with a bigger sign to show car park entrance. Parking prices show £20 per night for hotel guests where its actually £5, when you get to reception. Some of the carpet on the stairs are old and fraying. Small bedside light not working and cobwebs above wall light outside bathroom

Fourth time we have stayed here and every time we have enjoyed it less and less. After we checked in we were told the 2nd to 4th floor lift was out of order so we had to walk up and down 6 flights of stairs every time we went anywhere ! Apparently we should have received an email informing us the lift was broken but we did not. Room was fine but a bit cramped compared to others we have had in this hotel. For some reason breakfast had been moved into the lounge bar area, odd but okay. Service was 7-10am, arrived at 9.20am (Sunday) and there was hardly anything left, no bacon, no sausage, no beans. The poor lad who was working (on his own) was running around like a headless chicken, eventually brought out 6 rashes of bacon and some sausages at about 9.45. Last time we stayed here it was a similar story at breakfast but hoped that that had been a one off (obvs not) We will stay here again as the hotel itself is nice and its location is brilliant but will probably not pay for breakfast and just go to Wetherspoons at the top of the street. Such a shame.

Excellent staff who were very helpful. Breakfast was good but restaurant menu is very limited. The hotel is clean, bright and comfortable but car parking is an issue! 22 spaces on a first come first served basis is problematic.

Attended for a function at the hotel, was pleased to be able to check in early, however the room left a lot to be desired. Bathroom was dirty, with lots of easily removed grime on the shower, behind the door was dusty and the shower had a constant drip that continued all night. Had to sacrifice a hand towel to absorb the drips and kill the sound. Cobwebs above the bed on the ceiling and the floor area along the window wall was incredibly dusty and lacking in attention. The limited lights in the room were suffering from an electrical fault that resulted in intermittent operation. Food at the function was average but service was poor. Based on this we opted not to take advantage of the complimentary breakfast and ate elsewhere on the morning.

Breakfast was good - but coffee machine was broken, so only black coffee available. Sunday breakfast, baked beans ran out! Room was pleasant and clean; window gave poor sound attenuation (noisy bar across the street kept me awake until 2am on Sunday!)

Overall a tired hotel in need of refurbishment. The room wasn't properly cleaned as there was opened tea packets and stained cups in the room. Not cold drinking water in the room, only hot water from both taps. Had to head to reception to get a drink of water in the middle of the night. Tiny room, overly hot, bed was uncomfortable and dipped in the middle. Breakfast wasn't great either, no staff when we got there, so had to wait around. Came here for a work stay 2 nights Hotel staff at reception were Lovley but room was not nice atall had someone’s mouldy Chinese left over in the fridge, hair in the bathtub when I arrived the toilet roll holder was hanging off the room being a work stay I said nothing but I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the room and won’t stay there again

Hotel was lovely. Room was nice with ironing board iron and hairdryer!! Bathroom was little disappointed. Quite a bit of mould on side of bath and tiles. Behind toilet seat was dirty

The staff were very friendly and the room was a decent size with a nice bathroom. Breakfast was alright, although I think the breakfast should be free for all guests as its a small buffet with a very limited variety and it's the same breakfast each morning. The big issue is that the hotel is not very accommodating. A washer & drier is advertised but you are not told until you are there that you have to pay for a separate cleaning service that takes a day or two to clean your clothes at an extra up charge. The car park was extremely small and again you shouldnt have to pay to park your car at a hotel you are paying for.. we could not get parked throughout our stay and spent far more than intended on parking expenses due to this, its hugely inconvenient. Another issue we faced was the lack of cleanliness. We stayed here for a week and during that time housekeeping did not vacuum, change our bin, put new bed sheets or pillowcases on, put out new cups and the surfaces were dusty. They would only bleach the bathroom and make the bed. On the brightside, the location of the hotel is great, right in the town centre and very safe with restaurants and supermarkets close by.

Overall nice hotel but our bedroom was very small very hot and extremely dusty! Tried to use an electric fan but was caked in dust. Fridge area tv and carpets very dusty. Friends stayed in room opposite which was fine! Breakfast good but so disappointed in the room.

Central and convenient location. However, the sound insulation is not good, and you can hear snorring or chatting from nearby rooms. The room was generally clean, but there were tea/coffee stains on the walls.

First off, the parking is inadequate. But there is a multistory 5+ minutes walk away. The room was too hot, and was quiet noisy from street noise with a very small double bed. The hotel is in the middle of the main pub area. It does eventually quieten down. Breakfast was ok. No difficulties here. Food was reasonable.

We were on the third floor extemely noisy with kids running down the corridors until late at night sometimes banging on doors as passing, floors in corridors creaky so heard everyone passing during the night, we were in room 369 didn't get no sleep could hear the loud music/noise/arguing and fighting from outside the red lion opposite the property as windows even though they were shut let in all the noise will stick to our regular bannatynes in future

The staff were very friendly and the hotel is nice and central. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The only slight criticism was that there must have been a slight gap in the window as there was a slight whistling noise from the window.

Good location but because it is central it is also noisy being able to hear the outside, so be prepared for street/town central noise. Greatful that a fan was already provided in the room. Very helpful staff and Easy to check in and out. A good stay overall.

Good to have parking. Reception staff helpful. Nice big room. Lovely shower room. Restaurant had run out of food, so we are out. Bed really comfy. Reasonable breakfast. However, in the morning we could clearly hear loud conversation from the neighbouring room, so sound proofing isn't great. However, overall we are likely to stay again when in Darlington.

Great location in the city centre. Room fairy spacious with high ceiling (#429) - stayed 29/8/25 - 31/8/25 Decor throughout quite good and well maintained for standard of hotel. Bed very springy however and not that comfortable at all. Needs changing. Good selection of breakfast items and presented nicely. Also great coffee machine. Manual hot water dispenser is temperamental and it takes an age to dispense water for tea. Reception team friendly and very welcoming. However their knowledge of local electrical charging points is limited. Suggested Morrison car park 1.5 miles away when we found far closer points in local car park. Also when I asked about local things to do I was told "Drinking". Maybe it's a northern thing.... I don't know. Overall a good hotel and would consider it again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Waiting a while to be checked in, was a maze to find the room. The room was very outdated and in need of a refresh! The light from the corridor came under the room door and you could hear people banging the doors. I could also hear the people in the room next to me everytime the spoke. Breakfast was a shambles, food everywhere, no many options, not much food left. I ordered 2 fried eggs well done, they arrived over 10 minutes later, one just about cooked, the other runny so I didn’t eat it. Online it says 12 check out, but it was in fact 11.

Hotel is situauted in an ideal location, right in the centre. Parking at the hotel is very limited with only 21 spaces available under the hotel. That is 21 spaces if everyone parked within the lines and didn't have a car that is as wide as 1 and a half spaces. The rooms are compact but ideal for a stopover and kept very clean while the bathroom was compact, the shower was good and it had a bath so my wife was happy.The breakfast was good and buffet style, so eat what you want. We only went to the bar once and it was very good, bar staff were polite and chatty and the seating was very comfortable. Overall the hotel is good with staff being very good with any requests and very polite.

Check in was terrible. The staff member couldn’t tell me where to park as the car park was full. I went down after check in and asked what they had on the menu but she didn’t seem bothered! I ended up going across the road to a sweet shop and had a packet of crisps and an oasis for dinner. Breakfast was awful too!!

Overall a great stay. Second time visit. Very central. Only disappointment was breakfast. Staff did not have a clue. But this is down to superiors or management for not training them. First day. Could not find staff they were In kitchen chatting. Had to find them several times. Not interested in guests. Second day/Third day Different staff slightly better. At least was in the room and attentive. Coffee machine broke each day. Took good 20mins before a senior member can to look at it. Paying £12pp plus for breakfast extra supplements was expensive. At £6.50

The hotel is tired. The staff were seeking to do a good job, but it was not happening. In the evening a receipt could not be produced for my meal and I am still awaiting it being emailed despite assurances it would be available and sent to me. The service at breakfast was similarly failing. Coffee cups ran out and took 10 mins to replenish. Orange juice ran out and not replenished. No white bread as order had not arrived. Staff were trying, but there was no evidence of effective supervision and they did not seem to have the resources to work with. Absolutely not in accordance with the accor hotels vision statement on the stairs!

Well let's start with the positives, parking wasnt an issue, and breakfast was nice. Checking in wasnt great the receptionist was stood outside for 5 minutes vaping and scrolling on her phone, and when she did come in, there wasnt an apology, or "have you been waiting long?" The room was of a poor standard, i honestly thought it would have been bigger for starters, small parts of the wallpaper was ripped, the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall amd lets talk dust, the room looked like it hadnt had a good clean in a good while. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone and certainly wouldn't stay there again. I booked it for location to the theatre so didn't have to drive ot get taxis, but wish stayed elsewhere.

Fourth time we have stayed here and every time we have enjoyed it less and less. After we checked in we were told the 2nd to 4th floor lift was out of order so we had to walk up and down 6 flights of stairs every time we went anywhere ! Apparently we should have received an email informing us the lift was broken but we did not. Room was fine but a bit cramped compared to others we have had in this hotel. For some reason breakfast had been moved into the lounge bar area, odd but okay. Service was 7-10am, arrived at 9.20am (Sunday) and there was hardly anything left, no bacon, no sausage, no beans. The poor lad who was working (on his own) was running around like a headless chicken, eventually brought out 6 rashes of bacon and some sausages at about 9.45. Last time we stayed here it was a similar story at breakfast but hoped that that had been a one off (obvs not) We will stay here again as the hotel itself is nice and its location is brilliant but will probably not pay for breakfast and just go to Wetherspoons at the top of the street. Such a shame.

We stayed overnight for a theatre show in Darlington. Our room was very well appointed, with high ceilings, comfortable bed and good WiFi. The staff was nice and although the place has few parking spaces, there are several reasonably priced multi-level car parks nearby. The hotel is surrounded by pubs, so it can be a little loud until closing time. Our only gripe was that the hotel rooms (like so many!) slam, so you're woken up by banging doors. Other than that, a great stay!

Best located hotel in Darlington- in town centre. Friendly staff. Well kept hotel but needs an update, but great value for money as is. Has food and bar options. Parking limited on 1st come 1st served basis, so only got parking 1 of my 2 nights. No free parking in Darlington centre on any day. Still best place to stay in town.

Breakfast was good - but coffee machine was broken, so only black coffee available. Sunday breakfast, baked beans ran out! Room was pleasant and clean; window gave poor sound attenuation (noisy bar across the street kept me awake until 2am on Sunday!)

The room was tired and Amenities were poor. Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. Reception welcome was far from a welcome. The bathroom was filthy with black mould marks and the Bathroom door was completely rotten. The walls were paper thin - I was kept awake until after midnight. I phoning reception 3 times to ask if the room next door could turn their television down which was blaring for hours. After the third phone call over 2 hours they eventually did at 10.30pm. After this the room on the other side was on a phone call until after midnight shouting down the phone quite unpleasantly. I will never return to this hotel or recommend it to anyone.
