We stayed a few years ago and very much enjoyed the pool, hot tub, steam & sauna room. We didn’t realise that due to the fire in 2022 that the only thing remaining was the pool. The changing room was freezing and the pool freezing, someone mentioned they were painting in the day and had the doors open to dry the paint. Very disappointing. We would not come back again.

Location is amazing - right by the station, the beach and the festival we were attending. Hotel bar is gorgeous but swimming pool area needs some attention and more loungers. Rooms at the top of the hotel are incredibly hot but a fan is provided (we only found that the next morning!). Staff are super friendly and helpful.

The Parking was in the station car park, which is very close. Parking was free, (just filled a form in at Reception),which was great. We had booked a Sea view double room. It DID have a sea view but, it was on the 1st floor so the view was mainly of the roof of the bar. There were no other Sea view doubles available so we paid an extra £20.00 for a family room on the 3rd floor. Well worth the extra money as it much larger, with a balcony. Breakfast was included but, as we wanted ours in our room we paid an extra £6.00 for room service. The breakfast was brought on time and was hot and delicious. We used the pool, lovely towels were provided, this was all included in our stay. Unfortunately, the Jacuzzi was out of action but, I'm sure that will be fixed by our next visit. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We will be going back.

Right on the beach and a lovely walk to the seafront and town centre of Torquay. Outdoor pool is heated and an absolute delight. Staff sweet and friendly. Gym a little dated but great to keep on top of fitness.

Very disappointed with the indoor and outdoor pool area , there was a lack of facilities, no hot tub or sauna as there used to be, it was dirty in areas and the changing rooms were in an awful state, lots of oddd jobs here and there, the whole place could do with an update, and the outdoor pool also is in need of some tlc,tiles missing, terrible concrete areas that where rough on your feet. feel that the grand is missing a trick with the pool area , such a lovely outdoor space but not used to it’s potential same for the indoor area.it Both pools were cold too. Our room was lovely as it was on the quiet side of the hotel but we still had a sea view which was nice. Had every thing we needed.

Had a lovely weekend in Torquay. Very good service at the Grand Hotel. Hotel next to railway station which was useful as travelling by train. Didnt have evening meals at hotel, but breakfasts were excellent. Used the indoor pool which was adequate for a nice swim in the morning. Room pleasant and clean, but bed a bit hard. Hotel clean and tidy but generally decor looks a bit tired. Staff pleasant and helpful. Would be happy to stay there again.

The Grand supported our needs and promptly handled any miscommunication that came up. The spa is worth your time and the staff were courteous & friendly. Events did mean we couldn't enjoy all the facilities but alternate activities were found and enjoyed.

Its been many years since staying at the Hotel, certainly has aged. Room was tired, not the cleanest, and a little shabby. Tv didn't work properly and water pressure was low. The room at the back of the Hotel was noisy, view from window was onto brickwork. What was good was the receptionist, excellent customer service. The bar was friendly and efficient, food was ok, but a little expensive for what it was. Bar selection was exceptional, good value and great service. Overall, not awful, but remember how wonderful this hotel used to be.

The staff were fine but the hotel itself was a real letdown. The changing rooms for the swimming pool are a disgrace. The rooms are so dated I don't think they have been touched since the hotel was built over 100 years ago ! The hotel location is good. I can only say that I would rather have stayed in a Premier Inn or even a Travelodge as both are better than the Grand in the room department. At least they don't have holes in the bedsheets and curtains and a fraction of the price.

Staff after amazing. For the price of the room, it was not worth it. The room had stains in the carpet, although cleaned well such as the bathroom and no dust, the room felt grubby and dirty. Needs a good lick of paint and clean flooring

Nice view. Window frame roting black mould in bathroom and cobwebs. No fridge in bedroom. Broken sunbeds around outdoor pool. Breakfast average. Dinning room looks like it was painted by the late lord Bath.

Service has improved a lot at The Grand. The hotel is a little tired and my room smelt musty and had stains on the carpet, despite being one of the renovated rooms. The location is ideal, being close to the railway station. The bed was very comfortable and Ligo in the restaurant was extremely helpful at breakfast. I stay every year and check in was much better this year, with my room being available on arrival.

I decided to stay at this hotel as a change from the usual, and after reading the good reviews I was quite excited. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel on the grounds of cleanliness. In my first room, the showerhead was filthy and covered in black mould, so I asked to be moved to another room. The second room was not great, there was thick dust and rose petals behind the bed, a smell of weed in the corridor, cigarette butts on the floor and even worse, a mattress protector covered in blood. I had a word with the duty manager and to his credit he was great. Unfortunately, due to these issues I decided not to stay for my second night and stayed down the road at the Belgrave Sands hotel and spa instead. So disappointing as I had read so many great reviews, I’m not sure what happened with my stay but if the hotel does read this then cleanliness needs some serious work! The rooms also need a major refurbishment. I’m not sure how you can advertise yourself as four star when this is the type of service one would expect to receive.

Not so Grand... We had a sea-view family room. The furniture was a mismatch of tattered MDF furniture, damaged and not even clean. Cables were hanging down from the TV - bear in mind this is a family room - and these cables were 1-2m long. One lightswitch next to the bed was broken with half the switch missing. Windows were filthy on the inside, handprints and smears. Layers of dust on most skirting boards and bedheads - whatever happened to Covid cleaned?

The room was awful, dirty and there was someone else’s pants left in the room. We stayed in a deluxe sea view. The bed was really really bad. Staff are friendly and the main reception and bar is nice. Breakfast was standard.

This was a very nice hotel and and we had a Sea View however due to the flying birds around the area, the windows were dirty with bird poo. The hotel should ensure cleanliness of the windows too.

The hotel had no A/C and our room was on the top floor, the window could only open and inch so ne ventilation. It became so unbearable we had to leave the hotel at 3am and get a taxi home. All the rooms were full so no alternative apart from a fan could be offered

Nicely appointed room, and common spaces. Could see the bay from my window. WiFi in my room, 427, was marginal. The bathtub is unusable as it is against the slope of the Mansard, you can not stand up in the bath, either to shower or get in or out.

Not so Grand... When booking I asked for two things - a parking place and a quiet room. I got the parking place. Our room was three paces from a noisy lift. Our room had a connecting door (closed and locked) which meant we heard every word from next door, all through the night. Hotel staff wouldn't or couldn't offer us any help. The offer to change rooms was only given late in the day when we were about to go out on our last night. Too late.

I had a lovely 3 night stay for business at the Grand Hotel in Torquay. The hotel staff, particularly those on reception (including Jordan) were very welcoming and extremely helpful. My room was very comfortable and I had a stunning sea view I even had a little balcony, accessible through the large sash window and had my lunch overlooking the sea when it was warm enough (January!). The sunrise, visible from my bed, was an amazing treat.

Worth upgrading to have a sea view because the original room had no view at all and was dark.

This was our second visit to the Grand Hotel in Torquay. We definitely enjoyed this stay, loved the bed, spacious room, sea view and lovely balcony. The room was warm, so we left the balcony door open and it was more comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style, which was okay, though a bit disappointing for the price. The table hadn't been cleaned, and cutlery was missing. Food was okay. Checking in and out was easy enough. Lovely building, sea view excellent. Managed to get free parking across the road so that was a bonus.

Arrived and greeted by the most incredibly kind staff. They really couldnt have given us any more to make us feel welcome. Want to give a huge thanks to Robin on reception. My husband has a neck injury and the staff even offered to get pain medications from the local Pharmacist for us. The food in 1881 resturant within the grand hotel was delicious and served by Felix. What a kind gentleman he was also. Even making my young boy happy by giving him free mocktails! Both inside and outsoor pools area great addition to our stay, the breakfast is tasty and always left each morning with full bellies. We will definitely be coming back. We were so sad to leave today. Thank you all for a wonderful stay

All fine for a one night stay. Little things like staff not cleaning up drink spills or even apologies for spilling the drinks! Other staff extremely attentive & almost overly apologetic about minor things…! Restaurant - as a group of 6 we had to wait for all 6 to receive both their starters & then their main courses… after a few minutes it became awkward. Even having bottles of prosecco opened & glasses provided was a ‘waiting game’ … should we open them or is he going to come back & do it…?! Pool & changing rooms require some considerable maintenance as do other areas … obvious work in places like the bar area … not sure if things like rolled up bits of carpet needs to be left in the public areas? Otherwise, as said for one night it was good.

Service has improved a lot at The Grand. The hotel is a little tired and my room smelt musty and had stains on the carpet, despite being one of the renovated rooms. The location is ideal, being close to the railway station. The bed was very comfortable and Ligo in the restaurant was extremely helpful at breakfast. I stay every year and check in was much better this year, with my room being available on arrival.

The hotel is well located right across from the seafront and walkable distance to Torquay town center. The rooms were in need of attention. Room service didn’t come to our room in the three days that we stayed. The breakfast was very nice and the host was always very accommodating. However the bar closed early each of the days we were there. As early as 9:30pm on the Sunday. We read that the hotel had a fire a few years ago and it was clear work still needed to be done. The ceiling in the main bar/dining area needed attention and clearly showed signs of some water damage from the roof, where water was clearly seen to pool. With some improvements this hotel could certainly get back to it’s supposedly 4 star rating. It isn’t there right now. One of the lifts also broke down when we were there. Sadly it has a qorn and tired look to it. But the staff were friendly and polite.

Stay was very enjoyable! Jackie in the lounge was exceptional. She went over and beyond to help us! The bathroom was very poorly lit. Our view was stunning and Sophie at reception made that a reality for us.

Over an hour late checking us in with no real concern the room wasnt ready for 3pm check in wouldn’t have minded but reception just didn’t care we had to sit about waiting. Room was ok quite clean bed was comfortable windows had all hand marks over them We were in 4th floor with partial sea view which was quite nice facing the train track but that didn’t really bother us . Overall look of the building inside and out is quite run down would be a lovely hotel if this was looked at . Lovely warm pool both inside and out. Breakfast was fine but had an evening meal and was not that great which h was a shame because it cost a bit Overall nice location had a lovely time in Torquay Would we stay in this hotel again ? Probably not I think there are nicer places around for less money or better for the money we paid

We had a wonderful stay at The Grand Hotel, we had our 11 month old puppy with us too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would like to make a special mention to the restaurant staff as we had dinner on Saturday evening in the dog friendly part of the bar and were well looked after. Thank you once again for making our stay so enjoyable.

We had a great stay in this lovely hotel. We did have an issue with the slow service in the restaurant but this was addressed while we were there. All the staff except the kitchen staff where amazingly attentive and the food itself was lovely

The indoor swimming pool was pleasant, albeit a little cold in the changing rooms. Our room was small and odd shaped so would have benefited from removing one chair and table. An alarm went off early evening, which wasn't very nice as we didn't know if it was a just a drill and there was no phone to enquire. The wedding downstairs made the area unpleasantly noisy when we were there. The staff were helpful, especially the early receptionist and porter.

Stayed at the Grand because I grew up in Torquay and it was always considered the standard for excellence. The hotel has a wonderful view looking back onto Torquay harbour, and it's so convenient for the train station. The number 12 bus stops right outside so easy to get to Paignton or Newton Abbot. Some of the room decoration is very dated but overall the room was spacious and comfortable. The service was excellent on reception.

A very brief stay - arrived in time to drop bags, then straight off to Theatre. Head down overnight, quick shower and back out at 8am for train back to London. Total time spent from check-in to check out 11hrs 37 mins - actually in hotel approx 8 hours. Not long enough for real assessment of facilities. Room clean, bed comfortably. Near station. Suited our needs.

The Grand Hotel in Torquay has an excellent position when travelling without a car. The hotel is a minute away from Torquay station on one side, four minutes at the back (which means disability access to both train platforms). The beach is right across the road. The bus stops are in front of the hotel, going to the port and central town. My room was much more spacious than I expected, with a sea view, very comfortable, twin beds, tea, impeccable sheets and towels. Tea bags, hot chocolate and coffee and biscuits with kettle. The bathroom has everything needed and there was a hair dryer in one of the draws. As for the swimming pools! They scored the full five stars! Heated! The outside swimming pool was warm, even on a windy day it was well sheltered. The inside swimming pool was also warm, the room well heated. I would come back for that swim under the sunshine and that terrace overlooking sea and swimming pools. The people working at the hotel were very professional and friendly. We will be back.

Glamorous hotel, faded in places and could do with a little refurb in the bedroom corridors and around the pool, but we had a lovely stay, the facilities are great and our room was well-appointed. Great location, right next to the station and lovely view of Torquay. We will definitely return.

The Hotel is approx 2 minutes walk from Torquay train station so very convenient . The foyer , entrance dining rooms bar area, swimming pool area are all excellently decorated in a style suitable for the age of the hotel, Th staff were also excellent. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we could use the stairs or lift. The room itself was practical and comfortable , but just a little bit dated compared to some other 4 start hotels of a similar age we have stayed in, as there was no air conditioning it would have been nice to have an electric fan to blow air around the room. In particular, the bathroom whilst functional , in my opinion could do with an update and a complete freshen up .....although it was perfectly usable. I cannot comment on any other room other than mine though and other rooms might have been updated. The bottom line is would i stay there again and the answer is YES. We really enjoyed our stay and the food at breakfast was varied and excellent.

Old-world warmth of welcome to children and adults. Main reception room is a beautiful large high windowed, graceful, room resplendent with its numerous couches, library, sea views and perfect for rainy days. The pork belly and fresh vegetables were delicious. A realistically priced, child-welcoming, truly charming hotel with generous pool towels, for the much enjoyed indoor and outdoor pool. The location is great for quick walks, short taxi and train rides to an abundance of child-appropriate fun. The staff are delightful. Grandeur and hospitality without the price-tag, breakfast and bedroom more than adequate, we look forward to our next visit very much. If you need power-showers, and ten-star waitress-service breakfasts, air conditioning, ... this hotel is not for you, but how lucky we are to have this wonderful hotel exactly as it is.

Lovely building but rooms have paper thin walls with a noisy neighbour! Dinner was like faulty towers! Our pate starter was given to other diners after we had ordered it! Half of the mains were not available, and then they tried to charge us twice for the meal!

We very much enjoyed our stay. The room was very good, clean, comfortable and well equipped, staff pleasant and friendly. The high spot was breakfast which is really excellent. Lots of choice and very good quality.

Everything was first class, apart from the following. Only negative was the penny pinching at breakfast. We heard a staff member say we are not going to do the fruit yogurt as it was to expensive. Also limited number of coffee and tea in the bedroom. They did not provide marmalade only Apricot jam at breakfast, Fresh coffee and water was always empty there was not enough staff. I just felt that everything was counted to the extreme, this is such a negative against the positives. There is no reason to be this petty mean, it destroys all the good.My wife loves pots of yogurts which are all available at 3 star and less, I would like to know while that the only yogurt available was a bowl of watered down yogurt displayed in a big glass bowl. Not what you would expect in a 4 star hotel. In the future do not be mean, it is so obvious what you are trying to achieve, this is not good and I would suggest you stop this policy. Also I have just paid the the most I have ever paid for a pint of larger £6.50 a pint. All restaurants in Torque charged £5.00 a pint, your price is ridiculous.Philip Lomax

The room was fine, clean, well maintained. The staff were attentive and cheerful. Dinner was tasty but the menu had only very limited daily change. If we had stayed longer than our two nights it would have been boring. The hotel was let down by the breakfast. The fresh fruit salad was going brown, the hash browns and sausages were hardly edible. The fried eggs were only half cooked. All the hot food was barely warm. There was no teapot provided. Indeed on one morning there were no saucers provided. In over 50 years of staying in hotels here and abroad I think that this was the worst breakfast offering that I had experienced.

The people and the surroundings were great but the food was below average and the cost of drinks and breakfast were a bit extortionate, especially the breakfast for what was on offer! I was also in a room just above the main function room and there were two weddings during my stay, both with incredibly loud music until midnight. They really should let you know if this is going to happen or not place people not in the wedding party so close to the function room! The gym was also very dated and with no air conditioning in my room or it seemed anywhere else it was a lottle uncomfortable. Overall the grand does not live up to its name.

Had a weekend break, great service- nice room although slightly dated, very clean. Good breakfast. Bar and snacks good value. Only slight negative ordered a tuna sandwich and the bread was literally cut two inches thick, amazing value but so difficult to eat and wasteful. Our only negative, loved the stay.

The staff at this property were incredibly helpful and friendly, which really added to our stay. The breakfast selection was great and the food in the restaurant in the evening was delicious. We really enjoyed the outdoor pool and were grateful for the use of hotel towels. The only thing that let the hotel down, was the cleanliness and maintenance of the outdoor/pool area. We were there for around 5 hours and at no point did anyone come round to collect used glasses/table wear or remove old towels left by guests. The pool was also pretty grubby, but still a godsend given the heatwave. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. Our room was clean and well maintained and we had everything we needed for a great stay with two kids.

The staff at this property are simply fantastic, so helpful and friendly, it really makes you feel like a valued customer. The facilities are as you would expect from a 5 star resort although the maintenance and cleanliness could definitely be better. Having said that the resort was in peak season for our stay and I appreciate that some of these things need attention when the hotel is not so full. Our room was great and comfortable enough, albeit a little tired and a few things did not work (which were reported) such as the safe and TV but it did not spoil our stay. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh/hot and the dining room was spacious. The staff worked really hard to clear the tables and keep the food items well stocked even at the busiest of times. Overall another pleasant stay at The Grand Hotel. If you are looking for modern luxury this is probably not the place for you. But if you want a good location with friendly service then you wont be disappointed.

Title: Spotless Room and Cool Gym, But Broken Facilities and Rude Front Desk Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ Four nights at The Grand Hotel in Torquay left me completely torn. On one hand, the housekeeping team deserves full credit—they were so warm, approachable, and kept the room immaculate. The gym was also fantastic: cold air conditioning and great equipment. On the other hand, the spa and front service were a total disaster: Disgusting & Non-Functional Spa: The steam room gave off an appalling smell and didn't heat properly, while the jacuzzi was completely dead none of the buttons work the leisure assistant clearly lied about it working just have to press it right and didn't work the whole trip. Terrible Front-of-House Service: The porter had a dreadful, hostile attitude that ruined the welcoming vibe of the hotel. It's a real shame that wonderful cleaners and a great gym are dragged down by broken amenities and appalling service at the entrance.
