Efficient and friendly check in. Staff very courteous and helpful. Our room was a little tired and old fashioned but clean and comfortable. Bathroom facilities very good. Breakfast buffet food was not particularly hot. I suspect the food server heater was inadequate. Evening meal was excellent, again lovely staff and very reasonable prices. The pool and spa is really superb and well worth using. It's the biggest jacuzzi we've ever seen! Overall a very pleasurable stay.

Nice hotel & great spa facility’s. Parking is a little bit of a nightmare but paid £5 for two days for on street parking. Bar was nice as well. Hotel is on top of a hill so be prepared to get your steps in!

The hotel is in a perfect location and we managed to get parking close by. Parking was £2.50 for 2 days so considered that a good deal. The hotel is a little tired but comfortable and the pool was lovely. The ice room was amazing but a little disappointed the sauna was closed on the day we went.

Spa - no jacuzzi working from arrival to departure with no prior update on the failure of this spa feature which was an attraction to stay at this venue No “compensation”for this failure - could have credited a breakfast or a drink at the bar etc ( disappointing ) Overall , room with sea view and the service very good during our two night stay

Hotel very good, great location, friendly staff, good breakfast. Hotel bar under stocked, advertised cocktails but had very few ingredients. Limited gins and drinks in general. I would stay here again.

We stayed Saturday to Sunday in November. Bathroom was a wet room with a shower and a large bath. Fairly recent refurbishment apparent. Spa facilities were complimentary which was good and as it should be. Comprised two sauna. One steam room, one ice room, swimming pool, lots of gym kit. Breakfast was buffet style with a good full English and other options.

Facilities were very tired, room was very warm, carpet needs to be replaced. Pool hours are limited for children. Arrived at 6pm and was told children hours were over. Not family friendly.

Always a pleasre to visit the Crown Spa Hotel. The staff a very friendly and helpful especially the more mature members of staff. Leisure facilities are very good with gym, pool, 2 saunas, a steam room etc. We didn't eat at the hotel on this occasion but have on previous visits and enjoyed the food. The only slight problem affecting our comfort was the temperature of the room which was very warm when we arrived but a combination of opening the windows and turning the radiator off worked in the main room. Unfortunately the towel rail in the bathroom would not turn off and it was so warm in there that the water had evaporated from the waste trap of the bath allowing the smell of drains through but this was quickly fixed by running a bath tap to refill the trap and stop the smell. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless.

Staff were excellent - and so it’s a real shame that overall we were really disappointed with our stay at the Crown Spa in Scarborough. The property is tired inside and out and while that’s not an issue for me usually as older hotels tend to have more charm, it was this time because it was really not very clean in public areas especially the restaurant. Egg up the back of bench seats, old food and stains on woodwork and just generally unloved and in desperate need of a deep clean. The hotel lacked ambience, which I was surprised about given its position and historic significance in Scarborough. No music in bar, restaurant or seating area for atmosphere, the whole of that area had a really weird and uncomfortable vibe. Furniture in room was chipped and peeling. No valance on beds, absolutely not a 4* room, but very much at 4* prices. Patio area outside bar was dirty with rubbish on the floor and unkempt plants, not a very pleasant place to sit. Bathroom looked out over a taxi firm & garage which was fine except if you opened the window they had a full view of anyone using the toilet(!!) there was a ratty blind but it really wasn’t ideal. Also noisy overnight, some kind of machine running for most of the night sounded like a fan or maybe washing machine? Overall absolutely not worth the money paid - wish I had chosen a different hotel for our trip.

Reception area was nice.the bedroom was a let down windows broken, paint peeling off inside, television in the bedroom only worked on a few channels the first night and then worked better the second night, the television in the bathroom worked better.tap surrounds not on straight,basin tap wobbly. Not a good selection of tea or coffee just one type of each. The room was not dusted completely on the second day there were bits that were missed.when I asked how to get to the pool on Saturday morning the receptionist did not tell me it did not open till 8 when she could see I was going down there.

The room and toilet were not cleaned enough. The carpet had not been vacuumed in a while nor the dresser or the area around the TV had been dusted for weeks. The bathroom door was dirty with finger prints and old water marks and the radiator in the toilet from where the towels were hanging was horribly dirty. The toilet was running and could not be stopped and the soap dispenser was broken. The hotel room's door could not be locked from the inside at night.This was the worst "4 star" hotel I have ever stayed at!

The Hotel decor is tired and most areas including the rooms could do with a deep clean. The most disappointing part of our stay was the whole of the breakfast experience. The food when available was good and tasty however the self service area was constantly out of food and when we asked the staff we were told they were unable to restock due to inadequate supplies. Also the tables were not what we would have expected having paid a premium rate for B&B, they were all very sticky, when we pointed out this to the staff on duty, we were advised that they were waiting for the tables to be re surfaced! on two morning of our stay none of the used plates etc. were moved from the table. We also observed an obvious shortage of staff, who clearly could not cope under the pressure!

Staff were nice and helpful. Room was not very clean. Very small for the money. TV didnt work, even though they said it was fixed. Cramped room for £98.00. Although that did include breakfast. Won't be going back. Ideal for multiple people on coach trips. Couldn't find my booking, then triwd to charge £198.00 for the same room. Reception sorted it out ok. Carpark limited and poor signs in the dark

Was a decent hotel. Lack of toilet paper in public toilets and definitely needs some attention to rooms. Taps were a bit dodgy and drains blocked. Room service not so good. Reception staff were outstanding though; super friendly

the hotel could do with a deep clean, such as bannisters, felt dirty to touch, around our bathroom sink was dirty. the mattress was well worn and we kept rolling in to the middle of the bed... generally just needs a good refresh

Lovely little hotel right on the sea front at Scarborough. Hotel staff were pleasant and was greeted on arrival. Parking is a little iffy with the entrance at the rear and there’s quite a few steep stairs to get down especially if you have a larger bag. The hotel room was quite dated, no air conditioning, and a very small TV. However, the location and other facilities make up for these shortfalls.

Hotel was ok. Little faded in places and uneven floorboards etc. Staff were really nice and a great check in The gym and spa were surprisingly really good Room was a bit faded for a superior room, bed comfortable but with Tiny tv and one broken chair it didn’t feel superior Breakfast was ok but felt like deaths waiting room. There was no background music and it was near silent with the overall loud chitter chatter of staff bresking the silence

Staff really friendly and helpful. Room supposed to be superior I’d hate to see basic! Very tired decor, nothing like images on website, burns on carpet, very creaky floors and shower floor felt like a sponge. Good location if you like walking up steep hills from town or double build from front!

Outside of the hotel looks lovely. Sea facing hotel room is a must. Rear of the hotel is not as pretty. No air conditioning in the room and only found the fan in morning. Breakfast buffet was good but we’ve had better

Prior to arrival the communication with the hotel was terrible. No way to contact reception and the phone lines constantly do not work or switched off. Looks like a lack of staff issue or overworked perhaps. It’s very poor. The worst I’ve ever experienced. Upon arrival check in was fine and relatively swift. The room on the top floor was big but space underutilised. The bed was small for the room. TV far away from the bed. Was clean but a million different sets of lights and none of them appeared to work the main light in the room. Bathroom again big but the shower is above the bath. The bath has a concave wavy floor and the shower head is above the centre. It’s impossible and impracticable to have a wavy bath floor when trying to have a shower. It’s really poor. However you do get a TV in there for some reason. The corridors had trolleys and food left out all the time we stayed and they were there in the morning still. Again a lack of staff appears the issue. It’s OK but how people can have their wedding here is beyond me. A 4/10 because it was clean and I only had to pay £6 for the stay. I would not go back.
Prior to arrival the communication with the hotel was terrible. No way to contact reception and the phone lines constantly do not work or switched off. Looks like a lack of staff issue or overworked perhaps. It’s very poor. The worst I’ve ever experienced. Upon arrival check in was fine and relatively swift. The room on the top floor was big but space underutilised. The bed was small for the room. TV far away from the bed. Was clean but a million different sets of lights and none of them appeared to work the main light in the room. Bathroom again big but the shower is above the bath. The bath has a concave wavy floor and the shower head is above the centre. It’s impossible and impracticable to have a wavy bath floor when trying to have a shower. It’s really poor. However you do get a TV in there for some reason. The corridors had trolleys and food left out all the time we stayed and they were there in the morning still. Again a lack of staff appears the issue. It’s OK but how people can have their wedding here is beyond me. A 4/10 because it was clean and I only had to pay £6 for the stay. I would not go back.

We had a 1 night stay at this hotel in August. We couldn't check in until 3pm and when we did come back, there was quite a wait to check in. This could be managed better. Reception did give us a scratchcard to put on the car for parking at the front, which costs £5 for 2 days. The hotel is a lovely building, but is quite dated and needs upgrading. Our room floor, dipped down towards the bathroom. The location is ok, but you will struggle to walk down and back up to the town due to the steep hill. The spa was available to use at anytime. They had a good range of facilities, but again are quite dated and need upgrading. If this was a cheap break, I would have scored it higher than ok, but have stayed in better hotels for the price we paid.

We were in room 302 which has a sea view and was very clean and well presented. My only comment on the room is it was very warm, it felt like the heating was on, even though the outside weather was 20 degrees and overcast. I was also a bit surprised at the additional £50 I was asked to pay on check in (????), although this is refunded when you check out. The staff are very nice and the hotel very good and I would recommend a stay here. The hotel is very high up and there are a lot of steps to climb if the tramway isn't working from the beach to the top of the hill. Overall I was very pleased with our stay at the Crown Spa Hotel and would certainly revisit.

Booked executive double sea view room executive just means 3 red light bulbs and built in tv in bathroom top of fridge was covered in dust and huge cobweb in corner ceiling fan didnt work the electric plug in fan was so loud like sleeping with a truck in room but was so hot we didnt even turn duvet down just tried to sleep on top staff were nice and food was good but dont think will be going back .

We have stayed here a few years ago, so booked a return visit with no doubts. However, when checking in there was no record of us paying for breakfast, so had to prove what I booked our room with breakfast included. The spa, was ok, but seems to have lost some of its appeal. ( conversation in sauna between 2 local members discussing manufacturing drugs etc) Bar service was very slow and understaffed, we returned from an event which many other guests had been. ,but only 1 guy on the bar . The breakfast experience was a big disappointment. No fresh coffee, only a machine. The breakfast buffet arrived from kitchen on a trolley, but no food was covered. We paid over £200 for our room and feel very let down, I will not return .

The staff at the hotel were superb - all of them. They made our stay wonderful. My husband is in a wheelchair and so things can be a bit difficult at times. It was clear that at breakfast they were busy, but they still stayed cheerful and helpful. The front desk ladies, so helpful and nice too. Thank you

When we arrived there was a queue at reception with only one desk open. Several other staff milling about but they appeared unconcerned that folks had been waiting quite some time. However, other than the service the rest of the stay was great. The whirlpool was amazing and huge.

The hotel was great. Nice location, staff were friendly. Room great and bed comfy. Breakfast - well that was another story. On the Saturday our first morning we went, got rather unclear instructions from the Maitre D and were left to find a table. No menu, no salt and pepper, no glasses for juice. We’re asked if we wanted to order a hot breakfast and how we wanted our eggs. No menu so didn’t know there were choices. I’ve never had a poached egg be hard boiled before - that takes some doing! That said, once told they did bring a replacement. Sunday - well that was another story. It was busier and they just couldn’t cope. They had no system and no control. We arrived with the Maitre D who sent us to the top dining room. It was about 60% occupied. The problem was all the empty tables had not been cleared so there was nowhere to sit. We managed to find a table with no cutlery that had just been cleared. There were dirty tables for ages. Now we knew about the menu we ordered differently - kippers which were done nicely. The breakfast had a fried egg - thought it was a joke one it was so rubbery. No milk on the table so helped ourselves to some in a glass from the cereal counter. Why did we go to all this trouble on a 4 star hotel? The staff and Maitre D were constantly shouting and arguing in the corridor. It was embarrassing. Judging by the food inconsistency no one was running the pass properly. In our opinion the hotel is 4star - the restaurant maximum 2star

Booked 2 nights through Hotels.com as we had a reward night and voucher, so the deal was very good. I have stayed at this hotel several times and found it in the past to be very good at all times, definitely the best hotel in town, alas no longer. Starting with the arrival - check in was slow (admittedly it was at 3pm and was busy) and reception staff seemed to have lost the balance between personability and efficiency; spent a long time talking to guests on check in. Worse still was that we seemed to be classed as second-class guests because we didn't book directly with the hotel; "ah, you booked through Expedia" was mentioned twice. It may not be true, but that's how we were made to feel. The room itself was pokey, much more cheap B&B than 4 star hotel in terms of size. The bins hadn't been emptied from the last guests to use it, but the worst thing was the heat. It was so hot! Even with the window open, heating off and the fan provided on it was extremely uncomfortable. I had to take a cold bath overnight to cool down and try to sleep - the bath was also tiny! Generally, the hotel is showing it's age - everything works but could do with some renovation. The swimming pool was cold (the heat may have been diverted to our room!) and the changing room floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day when I went in the afternoon. Check out was very quick though; we would have aired our concerns but was never asked how our say was, just a simple goodbye.

The room was very “vintage”. Window had to be kept open with some sort of wooden block. We had dinner at “Taste” inside the hotel. The starters were fine - watermelon and feta salad and a prawn cocktail. For our mains we had sirloins and we asked for them to be rare - one arrived rare and one was medium with soggy oily chips. £114 total for our meals and I definitely don’t think it was worth it at all. No pints on tap on day 1 of our stay as the taps weren’t working (over Easter weekend). On day two, one tap was working because a staff member “jippoed” the tap somehow (which we know because bar staff were chatting away as if there were no customers present). Ordered a simple plate of chips for my toddler which took a whole hour because apparently the system didn’t put it through to the kitchen??? Staff were all really miserable, short off and not very helpful. We asked for a cot in our room and it was simply plopped in there for us to set up (cot was also stained and dirty). The highlight of the trip- a whopping £5 for TAP WATER to be brought to our room as they had NO BOTTLES OF WATER!!! We were brought two Carlsberg branded pint glasses of tap water and I was flabbergasted. Was very excited to leave this premises. Will not be returning. It’s a cash grab of a place with very little to offer young people/families.

Check in was awful. Queued to check in, 10 minutes early. The receptionists said we had to wait until 3. Waited, then had to queue again for 15 minutes at 3 o'clock. Location is good. There was no staff member at the entrance lobby when we got back to the hotel at midnight. Felt a bit unsafe.

Like so many hotels in British resorts, it suffers from having been there a long time. However the staff and location more than make up for that. From queries before check in and throughout our stay all the staff, whatever position they held, were exceptional.Beds were super comfortable. Always lot water. Food was fine. So easy to get down to the spa or into town

Nice hotel & great spa facility’s. Parking is a little bit of a nightmare but paid £5 for two days for on street parking. Bar was nice as well. Hotel is on top of a hill so be prepared to get your steps in!

I had a very joyful moments as it was my first time in Scarborough. Hotel Location and scenery over the hill was amazing. There was a very good walkway towards beach and to the town centre that help us to have a lovely walk around the city centre and coast line.

Bathroom appeared clean but smelt bad. Could not get a bar snack of any kind on the Saturday night due to the kitchen being too busy to take any more orders for the entire night. No Scotch or Irish whisky at the bar on Saturday night and check in and check out took along time due to staff training issues.

Efficient and friendly check in. Staff very courteous and helpful. Our room was a little tired and old fashioned but clean and comfortable. Bathroom facilities very good. Breakfast buffet food was not particularly hot. I suspect the food server heater was inadequate. Evening meal was excellent, again lovely staff and very reasonable prices. The pool and spa is really superb and well worth using. It's the biggest jacuzzi we've ever seen! Overall a very pleasurable stay.

Not as advertised 4 star hotel this is just scraping a 3 star. First night went for meal and cocktails. Filthy cutlery was first alert then when we asked for cocktails said they didn’t have any pineapple juice or many cocktail ingredients so we gave food a miss. Window locks missing. Curtains fell off. No little bottles of toiletries etc as advertised. Overall very disappointed.

We stayed Saturday to Sunday in November. Bathroom was a wet room with a shower and a large bath. Fairly recent refurbishment apparent. Spa facilities were complimentary which was good and as it should be. Comprised two sauna. One steam room, one ice room, swimming pool, lots of gym kit. Breakfast was buffet style with a good full English and other options.

We managed to find a table with no cutlery that had just been cleared. There were dirty tables for ages. Now we knew about the menu we ordered differently - kippers which were done nicely. The breakfast had a fried egg - thought it was a joke one it was so rubbery. No milk on the table so helped ourselves to some in a glass from the cereal counter. Why did we go to all this trouble on a 4 star hotel? The staff and Maitre D were constantly shouting and arguing in the corridor. It was embarrassing. Judging by the food inconsistency no one was running the pass properly. In our opinion the hotel is 4star - the restaurant maximum 2star
The hotel was great. Nice location, staff were friendly. Room great and bed comfy. Breakfast - well that was another story. On the Saturday our first morning we went, got rather unclear instructions from the Maitre D and were left to find a table. No menu, no salt and pepper, no glasses for juice. We’re asked if we wanted to order a hot breakfast and how we wanted our eggs. No menu so didn’t know there were choices. I’ve never had a poached egg be hard boiled before - that takes some doing! That said, once told they did bring a replacement. Sunday - well that was another story. It was busier and they just couldn’t cope. They had no system and no control. We arrived with the Maitre D who sent us to the top dining room. It was about 60% occupied. The problem was all the empty tables had not been cleared so there was nowhere to sit. We've stayed here many times over the years, but the hotel is starting to feel tired, with threadbare carpets in the room, and the cleaning standards have reduced. Its a good location, but needs a bit of investment. Breakfast had changed too and the choice was nowhere near like it has been previously which is disappointing. Will be looking elsewhere next time I'm there.

Rooms available but we were not allowed access till 3 which was difficult because we had travelled a long journey and had to change to meet friends for lunch. Breakfast was not 4 star. Tinned fruit and plastic pots of jam are way below standard. Room was much too hot even with windows open. Choice of beer in bar poor

The hotel is over all nice, well located and good size room which was clean But i do feel the room was over priced. The hotel is in need of some tender loving care. The one area which i was disappointed with was the Bar. It was a Saturday night but only x1 staff member on. Glass and plates all over. No one tidying and the staff member didn't seem to care how busy bar was. Breakfast was average, i think waitress service would be more efficient when the area is so small.

Our room was spacious and nice, some holes in wall and deco could have done with some TLC. Amazing sea view and could see Scarborough harbour, room was clean, nice bathroom, fan in room. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was lovely.

Very traditional hotel, with strong positives and negatives. The positives - a good-sized room, free gym and spa access, and a tasty breakfast buffet. The negatives - no hot water in the shower in the morning, a broken coffee machine at breakfast and a general feeling that the hotel needs a decor upgrade. A few questionable stains here and there in the room too. Grateful for the fan provided in the room, which would have been too warm to sleep otherwise. The location in Scarborough, however, couldn’t have been better.
