Super netter kleiner Pub mit Zimmern. Zimmer sind praktisch eingerichtet, etwas hellhörig, aber wir waren nur eine Nacht da, also alles gut. Für englische Verhältnisse war es super, obwohl die Deckenlampe zum Teil defekt war, ebenso wie Nachttischlampe. Wandlampe hatte keine Glühbirne. Personal war super nett, da gab es nichts zu Meckern. Frühstück ist frisch und nach Wunsch zubereiten.

The Crown is a three star hotel but it didn’t feel like it. The bedding was cheap and the decor tatty, the headboard wasn’t attached to the bed but worse than that, the room wasn’t clean. There were cobwebs on the ceiling in the bedroom and the bathroom. There was coffee spilled down the walls in the bedroom and mould in every corner of the shower and in the grout between the tiles. There was also a really uncomfortable atmosphere in the bar. The rooms seemed to be used during the week by tradespeople who were working nearby. These folks spent evenings in the bar of the pub. The language, comments and attitudes of these folks made me feel really uncomfortable. Whilst I recognise that there was a limit to what the staff could do about this, I felt the management did have responsibility to set the tone of what is acceptable and what is not. It didn’t feel like a welcoming place and I didn’t therefore spend time in communal areas. I didn’t take the breakfast but the room in which it was served, next to the bar, was also tatty, messy and unclean. Parking was available but limited and restricted by the vans of tradespeople.

Registration was cursory. Certainly not rude, just “fill in your details and here’s your key.” No offer of assistance for two seniors to carry suitcases up narrow stairs. No further information offered. Room was adequate. Shower is traditional British style - in a very high narrow tub, very dangerous for seniors in my opinion. Notice in room that no outside food allowed, and may result in an additional charge. Overall good value for money, but more of a two star than a three star hotel.
