Old and interesting property with lots of nooks and crannies, very well decorated and appointed. Central location. V friendly staff. Super food. Only small negative is having to park some streets away but that's because it's in the middle of a very beautiful old town with narrow streets.

Situated right in the middle of the lovely and picturesque town of Rye The George is a beautifully restored Georgian inn with rooms. The bedrooms are spread about a number of buildings behind the main building and mine was beautiful. A good sized bedroom and a large bathroom with both a large walk in shower and a freestanding rolltop bath. I didn’t eat dinner there but if the cooked breakfast was anything to go by I’m sure the restaurant is good. Only things to be aware of is due to it’s location there are no parking facilities on site. You need to drop luggage off and then park in a public car park a few minutes away. Also due to the age and hodgepodge of buildings making up The George it might not suit those who can’t easily negotiate steps and stairs. However if you want to stay in the heart of Rye in a lovely building I can highly recommend.

Nice property in a great, convenient location with a nice bar and courtyard area. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast. On the face of it the hot breakfast menu looked varied and had plenty of choice. However portions were small, and the restaurant seemed understaffed. Our avocado toast turned up without the bread being toasted, and others orders of potato and spinach left a little to be desired. Kitchen staff seemed rushed off their feet. There also could have been more choice with the cold breakfast options which was limited.

This hotel is conveniently situated right in the centre of Rye old town, with all local amenities within an easy walking distance. It made a great place to stay for our weekend in Rye. There is no car park but we were able to park outside on the street for the weekend. The hotel was very busy & there was no private residents lounge where we could sit enjoying a drink before dinner - we were told it was being used for a private function. There was a central courtyard around which most of the rooms are situated & it can get very noisy as it’s the main outdoor seating area for the pub. Our room was nicely furnished but quite small, I wouldn’t want to stay in a room that small for more than 2 nights. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice but the staff seemed very busy with no time to be attentive. We ate in the resturant on one evening, the food good but very over rated & expensive. There are plenty of smaller, better restaurants in an easy walking distance. We enjoyed our stay but on leaving we felt that overall it’s a nice hotel but overpriced for the rooms & the resturant.

Great breakfast, good choice of food and cooked to order, so hot / fresh. Welcoming and helpful staff, both at breakfast and on reception. Good tea / coffee facilities in the room. Powerful / hot shower and comfortable bed. The room had character. No lift, so be aware if you have mobility issues.

We had a wonderful stay at The George. The hotel is stunning. The bar was great and well stocked. The breakfast was lovely, with a great selection and really well run. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful and incredibly comfortable. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

A lovely hotel in a lovely little town. It's centrally situated, so it's very easy to reach shops, restaurants, bars, buses, the railway station and the Thursday morning market. We booked a "cosy" room, but on arrival were lucky enough to be upgraded to a "classic". It was spacious, attractive, comfortable and spotlessly clean. There was a bathtub in the bedroom, which personally I dislike (though I know other hotels have similar arrangements). That said, the bathroom included a good-sized walk-in shower, which was perfect. The only other (minor) quibble concerned the carpet on the hotel's corridor and stairs. It has the type of geometric, Escher-type pattern that makes it hard for oldies such as my partner and I to judge the depth of stairs when walking down. (Younger people won't have a clue what I'm talking about.) Our room overlooked the courtyard, where people were sitting out, but it wasn't noisy at all. Breakfast was freshly cooked, tasty and plentiful. All the staff we met were very pleasant and helpful. We'd like to give a special mention to the lovely Madison at reception, who went out of her way for us.

There were spiderwebs in the lamp. Next to the bathtub it was really dirty. The room Was a superior double but was really small, with a tini wardrobe. Considering the price, it was disappointing. The food was lovely though.

Not sure it’s worth the price tag. Nice clean hotel but average in terms of quality. Rooms are very noisy at all times, absolutely no sound proof at all, can hear your neighbours speak. The breakfast was nice and the restaurant manager seemed to really love his job which was good to see.m mmmm food

Our room was very grubby, dirty carpet, a substantial amount of dust had accu lated behind the door, the firedoor mechanism impeded the opening of the wardrobe. The window looked directly into the gentlemans shop opposite if you wanted Privacy the curtains needed closing the whole day. The whole room felt grubby and uncomfortable. We were very disappointed and did not enjoy our.

Brendan on reception was very welcoming on arrival and helpful. Even took our luggage to our room before we returned after we left it with him on arrival.Junior suite room was clean and spacious although could have done without all the pretend doves perched around the room.Bed was pretty uncomfortable and pillows were feather and too soft. The hotel is alledgedly famed for it's breakfast which is definitely no different to what one would expect at any hotel. What never ceases to amaze is the fact that guests are expected to queue up to use two toasters whilst their meal is getting cold. Additionally you have to use a computer screen to make your own tea & coffee. Who can be bothered? Hotel is advertised as having parking available. What is not mentioned is that the parking is in an unmanned regular town carpark which is a 10 minute walk away, so you must either carry your luggage up hill back to the hotel or park on double yellow lines outside the hotel as we did to unload first, then take the car to the car park and then make your way back.It's really not worth the effort.Many better hotels available.

Easy check in process. We were walked to our room and everything explained to us. Room was well decorated and clean. Tea, coffee and biscuits in room. Bottled water too. As it was warm we had the windows open therefore there was some noise from the courtyard and street. This was quiet between 11pm and 7am (Sunday night). Great quality breakfast with friendly staff. Continental pastries, toast, fruit, yoghurt, etc. Hot menu options also available. Easy check out process. Would recommend.

Lovely hotel, wonderful room but only a fan on a 31 c heat day was not not good enough. Terrible nights sleep, cold showering in the middle of the night not much fun. I know we have had unusually hot weather but feel the hotel could have provided more. Air conditioning definitely needed. I sleep better in a Premier Inn!

We were there for one night, room and bed were comfortable, only issue is that like many UK hotels there is no air conditioning so the room is hot at night. Breakfast was good with plenty of options.

We stayed at The George for a few days away. This was over the hottest few days of the year. Our room was on the very top floor (attic). The room was very small with a small window which faced the sun. As you climbed the stairs (no lift), you could feel the air getting hotter and hotter. The heat was unbearable with only a small fan 'for comfort'. No one checked in during our stay to see how we were coping. We ate at The Grill restaurant one night. The menu was limited, confused and overpriced. Breakfast was a buffet but felt 'mass produced' with staff delivering hot foot arriving before you'd completed cereal. It felt like we were in the way and staff were trying to get us out asap. We had been so looking to our stay at The George as we'd eaten there few years ago. But we left disappointed and underwhelmed.

Room very small, very hot with no air condition. We stayed late Sept on a clammy evening. A hot evening in summer would be difficult. Bed comfortable. TV or phone to reception did not work Breakfast starts at 8 so a bit of a rush for our appointment but was very good .

Do not stay on a Monday night in a front-street facing room as bin collection is Tuesday morning and our room (38) did not obscure any sound. We were woken around 6:40am and kept awake for 20 minutes with the numerous collections and the sound of smashing glass bottles. The bar was also very understaffed when we visited last month and took about half an hour to get served when I was third in the queue around 6:45pm on a Tuesday…so factor that in if you’re planning on going for dinner elsewhere.

The George hotel in Rye offers a charming stay with a central location and helpful staff. The comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast were definite highlights. Its bar is also great, boasting a fantastic atmosphere. However, our (entry level) room was a little on the small side. The George is a lovely hotel, but the staff and rooms really let it down. We were hosted in a "cosy" room which really lived up to it's name, being so tiny we could barely move and with a double that the wife and I could barely move in. The room was directly above the bar so extremely noisy, but most of all it was like an oven in there with no Aircon. Pretty unbearable. At breakfast, which was distinctly average I had to ask 4 separate times for some sauce to go with my meal. Truly a poor experience

Lovely welcome from Madison in reception who understands what hospitality should be and tries very hard (and succeeds!) in providing it. Stayed in a junior suite which was clean, comfortable, quiet and perfect for our needs. Will have no hesitation in returning.

Great location and really helpful staff. We were offered a free upgrade to a beautiful room which made it special. The breakfast was lovely although I would have preferred freshly made coffee from a pot rather than from a machine operated via an iPad - but that is personal preference. Everything was great - but that it reflected in the price.

Room was lovely but really needs aircon and the bathroom had good water pressure and a lovely bath. Service was generally sketchy but Harry on reception was excellent, efficient and seriously on the ball. The food was very good. We had a great stay but felt there was a real lack of attention to detail for the price point. The mens loos stank!

Do not stay on a Monday night in a front-street facing room as bin collection is Tuesday morning and our room (38) did not obscure any sound. We were woken around 6:40am and kept awake for 20 minutes with the numerous collections and the sound of smashing glass bottles. The bar was also very understaffed when we visited last month and took about half an hour to get served when I was third in the queue around 6:45pm on a Tuesday…so factor that in if you’re planning on going for dinner elsewhere.

Stayed in junior suite for 2 nights. Room was in main building, spacious with separate living room, great vintage decor. Breakfast food was good with buffet continental and made to order hot food. Second night was disappointing with very loud banging noises (suspect open door catching in wind) continuing until 1am - no answer at reception when trying to report despite calling 3 times. Breakfast on second morning was overcrowded and had issues with broken coffee machine leaving staff overrun. Overall a nice stay but a few items that distracted from experience.

Brendan on reception was very welcoming on arrival and helpful. Even took our luggage to our room before we returned after we left it with him on arrival.Junior suite room was clean and spacious although could have done without all the pretend doves perched around the room.Bed was pretty uncomfortable and pillows were feather and too soft. The hotel is alledgedly famed for it's breakfast which is definitely no different to what one would expect at any hotel. What never ceases to amaze is the fact that guests are expected to queue up to use two toasters whilst their meal is getting cold. Additionally you have to use a computer screen to make your own tea & coffee. Who can be bothered? Hotel is advertised as having parking available. What is not mentioned is that the parking is in an unmanned regular town carpark which is a 10 minute walk away, so you must either carry your luggage up hill back to the hotel or park on double yellow lines outside the hotel as we did to unload first, then take the car to the car park and then make your way back.It's really not worth the effort.Many better hotels available.

Situated right in the middle of the lovely and picturesque town of Rye The George is a beautifully restored Georgian inn with rooms. The bedrooms are spread about a number of buildings behind the main building and mine was beautiful. A good sized bedroom and a large bathroom with both a large walk in shower and a freestanding rolltop bath. I didn’t eat dinner there but if the cooked breakfast was anything to go by I’m sure the restaurant is good. Only things to be aware of is due to it’s location there are no parking facilities on site. You need to drop luggage off and then park in a public car park a few minutes away. Also due to the age and hodgepodge of buildings making up The George it might not suit those who can’t easily negotiate steps and stairs. However if you want to stay in the heart of Rye in a lovely building I can highly recommend.

This hotel is conveniently situated right in the centre of Rye old town, with all local amenities within an easy walking distance. It made a great place to stay for our weekend in Rye. There is no car park but we were able to park outside on the street for the weekend. The hotel was very busy & there was no private residents lounge where we could sit enjoying a drink before dinner - we were told it was being used for a private function. There was a central courtyard around which most of the rooms are situated & it can get very noisy as it’s the main outdoor seating area for the pub. Our room was nicely furnished but quite small, I wouldn’t want to stay in a room that small for more than 2 nights. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice but the staff seemed very busy with no time to be attentive. We ate in the resturant on one evening, the food good but very over rated & expensive. There are plenty of smaller, better restaurants in an easy walking distance. We enjoyed our stay but on leaving we felt that overall it’s a nice hotel but overpriced for the rooms & the resturant.

Great hotel with first class rooms. Breakfast good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location for exploring Rye was perfect. No car park but cattle market car park 5 minutes walk and only £3 per day. Winchelsea and the marshes are lovely walking.

On the face of it the hot breakfast menu looked varied and had plenty of choice. However portions were small, and the restaurant seemed understaffed. Our avocado toast turned up without the bread being toasted, and others orders of potato and spinach left a little to be desired. Kitchen staff seemed rushed off their feet. There also could have been more choice with the cold breakfast options which was limited.

The hotel was lovely and in a brilliant location in the centre of Rye. There are lots of really good restaurants nearby. We didn’t have a drink in the hotel bar, but it looked nice and welcoming. We were upgraded to a luxury room, which had a roll top bath and a huge, really comfy bed! I have given 5 stars instead of 4 as the B&B rate only included a continental breakfast and you had to pay extra for a cooked. This was the only negative.

Had an amazing 3 nights at the George Hotel in Rye. The hotel environment made the stay so relaxing . The Grill Restaurant provided delicious dinner with attentive staff as was so with the breakfasts each morning. The reception staff were very helpful making sure that the two rooms booked were right for our family of four.. This was particularly important as my husband has mobility issues relating to Parkinson's. The room was great with step free access from the road. We would certainly use the George again.

We were upgraded to a beautiful bedroom that was spotlessly clean. The staff were professional and helpful particularly the receptionists, bar and restaurant staff. Our room was serviced perfectly every day and the young man who helped us with our room was kind and attentive. The food we ate, breakfast and dinner was cooked well, tasted fresh and full of flavour. We didn't eat lunch there but this was because we were out every day. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, it's located in the centre of town and has so much character, we would definitely stay there again. Thanks to everyone at The George!

The location is great, but the weather each year is the same - pro-longed periods of hot weather but the rooms are not suitable as they are like furnaces. Hotels all over the UK and many other businesses are not taking action to deal with such conditions. A small fan is not sufficient and I understand the hotel is of an age Air Con is not possible to be fitted, but more fans would have been ideal. They were unable to provide our room earlier, as they were sourcing a fan to put in the room + house keeping still ended to sign it off, so it is clear there are not enough fans for all the rooms, never mind two. I know the hot weather is something they are unable to control, but with the rooms being so hot, and it often being a yearly regular occurance, a good nights sleep wasn't possible, one bit. For the price we paid, over £230 for the lead in room, it wasn't value for money. We have stayed a few times before - no recognition of this fact. The breakfast was lovely but the continental offering has reduced down quite a bit since we last came a few years ago. Again, things change but it was noticeable the accessible items were reduced and the range was limited. Hot breakfast was tasty, well cooked, great ingredients and not greasy at all.
