This was our second visit here and we definitely got a better room this time. We were in the Orchard Mews a recently refurbished room. It was lovely, clean and had a balcony looking onto the courtyard with the fountain. Food was lovely and drinks priced as you would expect from a hotel. BUT and this is a big but- the spa is NOT included in your stay anymore. You need to pay £10 per person just for the swim and that’s only for 1 visit!!

Overall my stay was good but based on the cost it was a little poor. Rooms are clean and very roomy so no complaints there except a twin was booked and we got a double. There are several reasons I think the hotel is poor. My main reason for choosing the hotel was it’s a spa and I fancied a treat. But the pool is £10 per person on top of the stay. Unless you book very early all the tables in the restaurant were booked so you can only order food to eat in the bar again if you can find a table, the meal choices are very limited and over priced in my opinion especially when the burger comes virtually raw in the middle. Bar staff are very slow so a queue forms quickly.

Was very disappointed with the leisure facilities and despite having £100 worth of treatments in their salon, they wanted £10 per time to use the pool which was shared with children’s swimming lessons every afternoon

We booked a spa and afternoon tea experience for my husbands birthday. On arrival we were greeted by a member of staff who showed us round. The pool was nice but a little cold. We then went for our treatments which were amazing. We then went to the restaurant for or afternoon tea. Unfortunately it was a mess. It obviously had not been cleaned up since breakfast and there was food left on every table. It was really off putting. We were served our afternoon tea 15 mins after our tea came out which by then had gone cold. After that we went to check in. We got to our room which smelt of smoke and then we found lipstick and a brown stain on a pillow. We went to reception and explained and they switched us to another room. We booked dinner in the restaurant which by the evening had been cleaned. The food was really lovely however the garlic bread that my husband ordered was forgotten and took 10 mins to arrive after our dinner had come out. My husband paid the bill and when I checked it they had given us the wrong bill. Luckily for us it was cheaper than what we actually owed. Overall we were really disappointed with the whole experience. The one thing we were impressed with was how lovely the staff were. From the Spa staff to the restaurant staff. It is just a shame as the hotel needs some desperate love and attention and maybe management need to support the staff a little more.

Property is set in a 17th century manor estate, which means beautiful lawns, woodlands and a riverside to walk around. Pool and gym facilities are decent and staff are quite friendly and helpful. However: We requested for a bathroom with a walk-in shower as one of my family members has mobility issues. We were told that one of the rooms (we booked 2) has this, but neither room had a walk-in shower. We also requested for a late checkout and were assured by the reception staff that we'd have the room till 1 PM, but on the day of checkout, we were informed by housekeeping that we had to vacate our rooms at the normal time (11AM) as there was no note left about late checkout.

Nice location but perhaps a bit dilapidated in places. They didn't have coffee in the rooms (only decaf / tea), presumably on purpose to encourage you to purchase. They also charged us to use the pool facilities, and none of the showers or water worked!

Very friendly staff, good breakfast, lovely pool. Hotel is in a beautiful setting surrounded by countryside. Room had balcony looking over gardens.The road leading to the hotel was flooded so had to take a detour of 3 miles. Hotel could do with clearer signs directing to reception, we couldnt find the front entrance in the dark.

Staff were very helpful, though unfortunately very obviously understaffed. Dinner service was exceptionally disappointing, may people simple left their tables, as no service was offered. It’s a shame things were let down by understaffing. Pool was also closed for repairs too, the pool was one of the reasons for our short visit.

Hotel room had cobwebs and a lot of dust. Downstairs room was over crammed. and no net curtains, meaning we had to keep curtains shut. TV was not working. Food - The food at the restaurant always arrived cold and one dish had a hair on it. Attitude by staff was unwelcoming and it was like we were putting them out. Overall, a disappointment for our Anniversary and Birthday celebrations!

Hotel room was a little tired and dirty. I cleaned the bathroom light out of old wasps and flys, and the windows had some cobwebs. Disappointing for the money I paid. Service in the restaurant was really slow also. Young kids also accessing sauna and steam rooms without staff doing anything…stupid parents!

Nice large room with all the usual facilities of a hotel. However, it is tired and dated. Beautiful setting and grounds which have been kept to an exceptional standard. Room was dated but clean and house-keeping attended daily. It was stifling hot in the room even though I had the window open for the whole weekend. The shower was constantly leaking water at the wall fitting and the plug was broken and couldn't be pulled out the bath after my soak. Breakfast food was very good. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

Choose other place. I found the dirty cloth on my desk when I came in and a big fry in my room. This hotel is very old and not pleasant to stay. It is very far from any place you want to go. I choose this place by seeing the picture. But I did not find anything there on the picture. Do not stay here.

Sadly hotel is not well looked after. Cleanliness is poor, i asked for a series of old used glasses in the hallway to be moved, they weren't. The room had a number of dead flies in the bathroom and the drawers a few dead spiders, furnishings were tatty and shower like a dripping tap. The surroundings and main house are stunning but hotel is poor in comparison.

First of all... I fell in love with the area. Just what you need if you want to relax, recharge and get back in touch with nature. The majestic Main Hall where we've stayed in room 17 was nothing but impressive - the history of the place told through the little frame resting on a heavely ornate mantle, the stained glass adoring the window with each pane giving you a time lime of the ownership and life events happening there. The room was spacious, inviting, and had kept many features of it's original character, the bathroom was very good size, and beside the door that needs some attention was lovely - allowing for bath and a walk-in wet area. Unfortunately we had no hot water on the evening (we realised it on our return around midnight and decided to wait until morning). No hot water in the morning either. The issue it has appeared to have been a simple one - resetting the boiler in the building and albeit sorted while we had our breakfast, did dampen our experience. The evening meal for us worked well. Our food arrived in reasonable time whilst the bar was quite speedy. The surrounding area is peaceful and so pretty... The woodland, the lake, the fields, the chapel, a small cemetery, everything offers you that chance to reconnect with nature and slow-down. We were meant to have stayed for 1 night, however we've booked another day on the spot. Under new management and new staff, meal time was tricky and many guest were disappointed with waiting times. For us worked well.

The evening meal for us worked well. Our food arrived in reasonable time whilst the bar was quite speedy. The surrounding area is peaceful and so pretty... The woodland, the lake, the fields, the chapel, a small cemetery, everything offers you that chance to reconnect with nature and slow-down. We were meant to have stayed for 1 night, however we've booked another day on the spot. Under new management and new staff, meal time was tricky and many guest were disappointed with waiting times. For us worked well.

Warm evening after a hot 25C day - the room was very hot and had ac capability but it didn’t work. We met other guests complaining of the same problem. Our room had a small window which had a lock to prevent full opening, which I managed to bypass, but it was still 25C during the night so very unpleasant.

Very tired. Needs maintenance desperately. Few things in the room not working. Hearing. Fine in the summer but winter is approaching. Shower flooded as drainage poor but shower was strong and hot. Every window frame I could see was rotted badly. It’s a shame as it’s a beautiful old building but not had the money spent on it to keep it nice.

The suite in Walton Hall was stunning, bathroom was lovely and the view was lush. The building itself is slightly run down, there was a leak in the roof which was mopped up with towels on the floor, however it’s understandable with it being such an old building. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on that but the bar area and garden was nice. Lovely grounds to walk around as well! Would definitely stay again

The property is very large , we were in the beautiful but dated Manor House . The grounds are beautiful as is the house . Our room was huge but has certainly seen better days and is really in need of an update. We didn’t see any member of staff in the time we were in the building where our room was. We tried to call someone to serve us a drink in the conservatory bar , but got no reply from the hotel or from Expedia who was asking for a booking number which I could not find on the booking info I had.

Great location and setting, stunning gardens and architecture. Front of house reception is poor and experience doesn’t marry with the setting. we stayed during a heat wave and room was boiling, air con blowing warm air, fan provided was broken, nespresso machine broken, cannot open any windows. But we had a suite which was massive and impressive. We were in the southern section of the hotel and our views were incredible. We will go back, but we now know what to expect. Very peaceful there, I think there were only a handful of guests in our part of hotel. The north section was rammed. We didn’t eat there so can’t comment on food or service.

The food was actually really delicious and reasonably priced! Good choice for buffet breakfast. Room was huge and lots of windows and good heating. Loved the swim and massage I had too. Beautiful surrounds to take a walk also.

Check-in was slow as there were insufficient staff on duty. I booked a twin bed room but we were given a double bed room. The coffee maker had an incompatible water reservoir, so we were unable to use it.

They insisted I pay for food and drink as I went and would not then give me a vat receipt, the service in the restaurant was slow, the food was cold and when I complained the microwaved it and sent it back. I ordered a coffee and sweet, gave up waiting after half an hour. Hotel were not interested as they said the restaurant was run by someone else.

My wife and I visited for a night away, booking a superior room in the old hall part of the hotel. We had a couple of issues but the hotel staff went out of their way to put them right. Firstly a light fitting in the bathroom had come loose. We told reception when we went for a drink at the bar and, by the time we got back to our room, it had been fixed. Then when we were getting ready for dinner we realised there was no hot water. We called reception and within a few minutes a member of staff came to take a look. When she realised she couldn’t fix it, she said we’d move rooms. Within 20 mins, she came back and moved us to the suite next door, which was amazing and, crucially, had hot water. To add to this, the restaurant held our booking as we were running late. Overall what could have turned out to be a disaster was averted by the excellent staff. We were very impressed and the old hall is a stunning building. Would definitely go back.

Very unimpressed with the check in service. I was a late arrival. Exterior signage needs to be easier to read at night. I called to find out where to go and was met and walked to reception. I checked in and walked a long way to the room to find it was a double, not the twin I booked. The brief version is after over an hour, walking from room to room, getting wet in the rain moving rooms we finally got a twin room. The man on the desk was very morose, didn't make eye contact, smile or be in any way pleasant. I was told 24-hour reception but the phone when I called for a fan said the mailbox was full!! Had to use my mobile to call reception. Checkout time is 11 am, I hung the do not disturb sign on the door and still the cleaners came into the room at 8.30 and switched the light on. The final straw was a sliver of glass on the floor embedding in my foot. I expect better from a Mercure!!

Hotel room was a little tired and dirty. I cleaned the bathroom light out of old wasps and flys, and the windows had some cobwebs. Disappointing for the money I paid. Service in the restaurant was really slow also. Young kids also accessing sauna and steam rooms without staff doing anything…stupid parents!

The property is beautiful and the staff can’t do enough to help you. The day we were checking in I had a horrendous migraine attack and called and asked if we could check in early as I needed to lie in a dark room. The staff not only checked us in early but upgraded us into a room that they thought would be more comfortable given my migraine. So thoughtful and kind. Thank you Walton Hall!

The check-in staff were helpful and friendly. However, there was only one person servicing the bar with a very high number of guests. We had to wait 15 minutes to get served only to be told there were no glasses… and had to wait another 15 minutes to get glasses. The barman was under a lot of pressure to serve guests. It was poor service, but at least he was friendly. Waiting staff were also under pressure for the evening meal. There were very few options for breakfast… little fruit, no granola / muesli, no yogurt available as an option. I have stayed at the hotel previously and this was by far the worst experience. If we paid £50 per night, I would understand it. The price we paid, we expected good service, comfortable rooms and sufficient meal options. The air conditioning unit was broken and the room was uncomfortably hot with very poor ventilation. This is unacceptable for the charge and price of the rooms.

Excellent service from check in onwards. The delightful, professional and helpful Nadia heard my concerns about needing a quiet room and adjusted the booking accordingly. Sounds simple but it’s very rare for staff to take the request seriously! It made all the difference to me. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Beautiful grounds to wander in and a great breakfast which I really appreciated, as I hadn’t booked it. Will definitely be returning and highly recommend!

This is quite a difficult hotel to review. We arrived in torrential rain - the hotel has a very long approach road which was mostly underwater. Not flooded but concealed. The water hid the speed bumps which came as a shock in a heavily loaded van. I think these could be painted white and the road better drained. However, the hotel has signage, which is not lit. We, and other guests, could not find the reception. This is probably ok on a summer evening but in the dark, with torrential rain, it requires improvement. When we made it inside the hotel there was no signage to reception. But, having finally found reception the reception area was recently refurbished, the staff brilliant, and understanding of our inability to navigate. Staff on the bar were great but restaurant lead was rude and unhelpful. He told us as we hadn’t booked or prepaid, we couldn’t have a table. In a half empty restaurant. Fortunately a fellow guest offered us his table. Bar staff were lovely. The site is huge, some new rooms, some older. Ours was a fantastic design but marked by signs of mould. But maybe just in need of a refresh. The receptionist told us a lot of maintenance takes place at this time of year. We were disappointed that the TV didn’t work, due to signal problems. But we had ipad with us so used that. The hotel is made up of many areas, all with their own parking, so I would suggest navigating to Reception before choosing a parking space and unloading your luggage.

We enjoyed the stay and it was very peaceful,my wife made use of the Spa treatment which was good. The room was nice and cleaned to a high standard however I feel it would have benefitted from a fridge/mini bar.Also the TV was old style and maybe more options like a smart TV would be good.Twice we had issues with the card door entry that did not work, however the staff were helpful in giving us replacement cards. I know that this is something the hotel is looking to improve. We enjoyed the breakfast which had a good variety.There was ample parking within the grounds.Location was superb close to Stratford Upon Avon, Warwick and Leamington Spa.

Love this hotel’s location. Such beautiful surroundings. The rooms could do with a bit of a spruce up, but they are perfectly okay as they are. We brought our dog to stay with us and he was made very welcome and enjoyed having the run of the grounds immensely.

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel, but unfortunately we arrived on Valentines Day on our way back from the Lakes. So it was busy, there seemed to be a wedding going on. When we asked the desk about booking a table for dinner, the lady declined to help us and asked us to ask ourselves. The parking isn't clear when you drive in neither is the entrance, the drive is very long to the hotel and you could easily drive past the entrance with the poor signage at night time. The room temperate was too hot at night. But it was clean and spacious with the usual tea & coffee set up.

Great 2-day stay for a local event. Upgraded room was lovely and we used the spa too. Dinner was great with many gluten-free options. Only issue was poor breakfast options and having no coffee a big downer :(

Restaurant food is expensive for what I would call basic food. Fish and chips at 18.95 is exceptionally poor. All batter and very little fish that comes with chips and a thimble size pot of peas. I have had to send this meal back several times before getting a decent piece of fish.

We were extremely disappointed to find nothing but 'bar' food – burgers and fish-and-chips – in the restaurant of a four-star hotel! This was supposed to be a special occasion for us and we ended up eating upmarket Beefeater food. Very sad, particularly since we have held several excellent gala dinners for 120+ at the hotel in the past.

Overall my stay was good but based on the cost it was a little poor. Rooms are clean and very roomy so no complaints there except a twin was booked and we got a double. There are several reasons I think the hotel is poor. My main reason for choosing the hotel was it’s a spa and I fancied a treat. But the pool is charged extra per person on top of the stay. Unless you book very early all the tables in the restaurant were booked so you can only order food to eat in the bar again if you can find a table, the meal choices are very limited and over priced in my opinion especially when the burger comes virtually raw in the middle. Bar staff are very slow so a queue forms quickly.

The air conditioning unit was broken and the room was uncomfortably hot with very poor ventilation. This is unacceptable for the charge and price of the rooms.
The check-in staff were helpful and friendly. However, there was only one person servicing the bar with a very high number of guests. We had to wait 15 minutes to get served only to be told there were no glasses… and had to wait another 15 minutes to get glasses. The barman was under a lot of pressure to serve guests. It was poor service, but at least he was friendly. Waiting staff were also under pressure for the evening meal. There were very few options for breakfast… little fruit, no granola / muesli, no yogurt available as an option. I have stayed at the hotel previously and this was by far the worst experience. If we paid £50 per night, I would understand it. The price we paid, we expected good service, comfortable rooms and sufficient meal options. The food was actually really delicious and reasonably priced! Good choice for buffet breakfast. Room was huge and lots of windows and good heating. Loved the swim and massage I had too. Beautiful surrounds to take a walk also.

Coffee overpriced 8.40 for doubles hot black americano. Be careful if you stay at this place as swimming pool not included in price, rooms very average, unless you pay for deluxe rooms your in an annex, a little disappointed

Fantastic location and surroundings Was disappointed with our room for tha fact we upgraded with a pet with us To find out we didn’t get our upgrade because pets were not allowed in that side of the hotel So Single beds which I was very disappointed with But the front desk could give us a free breakfast But to be honest, would rather a double bed I ordered But all in all staff are fantastic Easy parking Clean room Beautiful place to visit

Overall we were disappointed with the hotel's service but it was a convenient place to stay in a lovely setting. Check-in is at 3:00pm, which feels very late if you have plans in Stratford and want to freshen up beforehand. We arrived at 12:30pm, hoping to access our room a little earlier as we were attending a show that afternoon. We were told we would have to wait until 3:00pm. We then asked if we could use the pool facilities while we waited, but were told they were not included with our room and would cost an additional £12 per person, per day. While waiting, we sat in the bar and ordered drinks and a sandwich. As we waited for our food, another table had to send their sandwiches back because the bread was stale. When mine arrived, it was the wrong sandwich, so it also had to be sent back. Another guest cancelled his food order and left as he had been waiting so long. After several visits to reception, we were eventually told at 2:30pm that our room was ready, even though we had seen other guests checking in before us. Unfortunately, despite the long wait, the room itself had clearly not been serviced properly. We found a dirty sock on the floor, there was only one coffee mug, and the tea and coffee supplies had not been replenished. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable, the blackout curtains were excellent, and although the cooling fan was small, it was very effective.
