Property is well located. Beach has lots of seaweed. 3 pools not large enough to accommodate all guests. Hotel does weddings and therefore closes down the pool area for wedding party setup which is the only area at this hotel that can accommodate a wedding. Other guests are frequently inconvenienced. This happened twice to us. Restaurants are overpriced for the quality of the food and wine. Staff are friendly but do not anticipate the guest needs. More training needed.

This resort is conveniently located on the beach in downtown Playa which makes access to 5th Ave restaurants and shops a short walk. The property is beautiful and well maintained with a nice stretch of beach, multiple pools, restaurants and bars on site. The half board option provides breakfast and the option to choose lunch (which you can order on the beach) or dinner which is perfect if you like to explore local restaurants for dinner. The quality of the food and drinks is very good and the staff deserves a shout out for their fantastic service and attention to detail. Ishmael, Armando, Enrique, Manuel and the rest of the staff too many to name will make you feel at home and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. These guys work really hard and let you know that they appreciate you ‘re staying with them . I don’t typically write reviews but have stayed at this resort on many occasions and continue to return. From what we’ve seen it appeals to singles, couples, groups and families. When you experience the view of the crystal blue water while eating breakfast or the sunrise on the beach a few steps from your room you’ll be planning your return trip.

Food was average, beach/pool service below average (no towels)… all inclusive it was not. The property was very nice, and picturesque. Very little parking, but situated on a beautiful street a block away from the famous 5th avenue

Mahekal is a very nice property directly on the beach and convenient to Playa del Carmen. One of the restaurants was closed (possibly due to lower off-season tourism), but it’s higher-end Fuego restaurant was excellent! The property is quiet unless your room is near the Las Olas restaurant, which plays music starting at 7:00 am. This was the only disappointment during our stay.

This resort has amazing views of the beach ! The staff are very friendly and respectful. But the facility needs a lot of updates and cleaning and more walkways to get to places and more places where to eat other than that it’s an Amazing place we had a wonderful time !!!

Beach access at 1st seemed wonderful until I could not access it. During my stay of 4 nights the pool & area next to my room was closed 2 nights for private weddings. The extreme loud music with bass vibrated the room. I was offered to move rooms but for the price I paid I for my beach access room that was little compensation. Not recommeded!

The staff were amazing and very attentive. The accommodation on the beach was spectacular although one night there was loud noise coming from a local nightclub that disturbed our sleep but that was only one night. The food was exceptional and in one restaurant changed each night. Plenty of pools to lounge by and it was very secure with security guards on the beach and at each entrance. The one downside was that some gym equipment need replacing. Overall I would go again.

The hotel grounds are lovely, and the view of the (albeit very shallow) section of beach and sea is nice when the sun is out. We liked the proximity to the beach and fuego from our room. However, £700 per person for 4 nights did not reflect the hotel. The rooms are tired, the sun loungers, beanbags etc were all stained,ripped ,bleached. One pool was closed entirely. The service at times was odd. We’d often sit for a long time waiting for menus at lunch, even though there were so many staff around. The food was just ok at fuego. The breakfast had little vegan options, although the staff were lovely & a nice view over the pool. The other a la carte restaurant we tried only once and the food was bad. The hummus was like soup and with no bread? A confused menu. There were no updates/info on the activities (could never find the staff) the concierge never responded on the WhatsApp. We’d go in person to the desk and they were never there. At our 5am checkout we were asked to walk back to the room to get the 2nd plastic key card before they’d let us leave. Once in the cab the security demanded we show a receipt before he’d let us leave, even tho he’d just watched us check out? Could be lovely but needs some serious overhaul with modernisation of the rooms and some injection of initiative to some of the service. Overpriced for a place that reflects a tired 3*. Roberto at dinner, blonde lady at breakfast/lunch & taller/bald beach service waiter all wonderful & worked v hard.

If you are looking for beautiful grounds, and a rustic getaway, this is great. But not 5 start worth. Staff was nice, facility was clean. Rooms were comfortable. The walking area outside the hotel was really neat. Cons to note: If you have a car, don't stay here. They don't have parking. You have to park on the street and pay a parking meter only with coins (no bills or c.card) no joke. It's an enormous burden. Beach: Their beach is approximately 20feet wide x 10 feet deep. No kidding. Above the beach they have some nice palms and loungers on their garden area, but it's not on the sandy beach. Room keys: They are the plastic card type, we asked for 2, and they said sorry we're out. So we ended up sharing one key for 5 days. Reservation: We asked for 2 beds and that was on the reservation. At checkin, they didn't have any ??? so my adult son and I slept on the same bed. TV - they don't have TVs in the room. If you want a rustic getaway, that's probably ok. But if not, it's a little spartan. POOLS and GYM - they close super early.

The grounds and bungalows are beautiful. The grounds are lush and well designed, with pools and bars scattered throughout the property. The resort is an oasis in a row of hotels that are generally ugly, and our beach-front bungalow was spacious. Beware about booking a bungalow that says that you can get either a king or two queens. We had our 16-year old, 6.3" tall, son with us, and I emailed the resort immediately upon booking (almost a year in advance) that we would like a bungalow with two queens. They responded that they can't guarantee it, and we ended up with a king. There was a small twin in the room that was too short for him. That was very disappointing, especially as this was a very expensive vacation. They told us that they only guarantee the type of room if we book directly through their website. The staff was excellent, attentive, professional, and personal. Unfortunately, some equipment was out of order in the gym and wasn't fixed. The gym itself was very small. You can easily walk to restaurants and shops, even if most of them are just tourist shops. The food wasn't excellent but good. The desserts and the pastries/breads at the buffet were the best. Beware that you still need to tip at every meal, even if the food and drinks are included. I would definitely recommend staying at Mahekal Beach Resort!

If You Value Hygiene and Sleep — AVOID THIS HOTEL This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I booked it thinking it would be better than others in the area since it was more expensive and had decent reviews — but it was an absolute disaster. Our room was infested with bugs, including cockroaches that hit us in the head while we slept. The actual beds had bugs crawling all over them. I woke up with bites all over my legs, and I’m convinced the beds had bed bugs or fleas. We had to switch rooms FOUR times, and every single one had bugs in the bed. There were blood-stained sheets and towels, a toilet that made an alarm sound after flushing, and broken soap dispensers. The only toiletry was a pathetic 2-in-1 shampoo — bring your own. The toilet noise made it nearly impossible to use the bathroom in the middle of the night without waking everyone up. Mosquitoes were everywhere — room, hallways, even the dining area — so you’ll need bug spray and After Bite just to survive. When we reported all of this, the staff did nothing. No apology. No compensation. No concern. The only redeeming thing was the food, which was actually good. This place tries to wear a 5-star disguise, but it’s not even worth 1. If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not stay here.

We booked this property for 5 days the staff was friendly and it’s walkable to everything else the only problem was that this whole time what we thought where mosquito bites turn out to be bed bug bites . Horrible my family and I were full of bed bugs bites .

Location, garden are good The rest is not good: average food, bad attitude, zero follow up, they let me outside under the sun at 2:30 pm while they looked for my reservation (didn’t even ask for my ID), a little over 50% occupancy and they did not give me the room at 3:00 saying checking started at 3:00 pm. The roof had holes, the shower floor had black long hair and green water, very disgusting, the beach towels are no longer white but grey and broken

We wouldn't recommend the palapa roof units due to odor. The odor is stronger in some units, and less in others, but always present; they “treat” these units with a “smell good” to hide the odor, but doesn’t always work. The odor is most likely mold and mildew; this particular unit (#135) didn’t get as much sun to keep it dried out thus the stronger odor. They also spray the roofs with a flame retardant and water-resistant chemical that supposedly dries within 30-minutes and the next guest is ushered in, per the contractor spraying the unit next to ours. We moved to #96 (garden view) on the morning of our 4th day and it was perfect for our needs. You'll notice noise in all units; property is in a good location with tons of restaurants just outside the front gate. We dined on property our entire stay; we had an ocean view at breakfast buffet @ Las Olas and lunch @ Fuego each day AND a daily stop at Starbucks. We wouldn't recommend the palapa roof units due to odor. The odor is stronger in some units, and less in others, but always present; they “treat” these units with a “smell good” to hide the odor, but doesn’t always work. The odor is most likely mold and mildew; this particular unit (#135) didn’t get as much sun to keep it dried out thus the stronger odor. They also spray the roofs with a flame retardant and water-resistant chemical that supposedly dries within 30-minutes and the next guest is ushered in, per the contractor spraying the unit next to ours. We moved to #96 (garden view) on the morning of our 4th day and it was perfect for our needs. You'll notice noise in all units; property is in a good location with tons of restaurants just outside the front gate. We dined on property our entire stay; we had an ocean view at breakfast buffet @ Las Olas and lunch @ Fuego each day AND a daily stop at Starbucks. We just got back from 10 nights at the Mahekal. We got a free upgrade as it was low season, which was great, though the view from the balcony was poor in one room. Check-in was smooth, cleaning was thorough and regular and the facilities were great. No problems finding a spot at the pools or the beach. The only downsides were that my son lost his key card on the second day and the receptionist wanted US$15 for a new one, which is a ridiculous price — many hotels do them for free and we had spent so much on the rooms that this seemed like and extra “squeeze” to me; the other was that they wanted to charge US$60 per room to check out three hours after the checkout time — again, another “squeeze” to get more out of their customers. This is why I have marked them down for service. That said, the entire resort is all about US-style tips and extra payments here and there, so I guess the mentality simply fits in with the local ethos. Lovely hotel though

I stayed there for 3 days, it was rainy and my room had leaks on through the restroom lights, I tried to contact staff, they say they would send maintenance, we waited 1hr and nobody showed up. The property was really well maintained. Room was big and clean, restaurants were excellent, you have a lot of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pools were nice and the access to the beach was convenient. The only thing that needs to improve is the wi-fi in the rooms, a little bit spotty sometimes. Overall was an excellent stay and I definitely will love to come back and stay.

Our stay was great. I'll start with the bad. We had a tropical storm and it flooded our room. But the staff was attentive and came that morning, cleaned the room, put plexiglass over the screen, so that when it rained again, the rain had less of a chance to get into the room. That mostly helped, but the window seal was in need of repair and we discovered that is where some of the rain was coming into the room. So, when it rained again, we still had rain on our floor, but less of it. Again, they came right away the next morning and cleaned it up while we were at breakfast. Okay, the great things I loved about this place... EVERYONE was so nice and welcoming. Daniel checked in daily via text. The servers at the pools were circling back right when you needed a refill. There was daily activities going on around the resort, rain or shine. We only ate at the restaurants a few times but what we had was good. We ventured off the resort for dinner because we were so close to walking distance to anything and everything you might be in the mood for. Navigating around was easy with Google Maps. Overall, I would recommend this resort to family and friends.

Rooms are small but nice & balconies with hammocks are a lovely touch. Beach also needs more umbrellas as it’s v hot in the sun!

Liked: the view from the ocean view room (upstairs). The pool is very close to the ocean. The location is perfect. Disliked: you cannot “book” King or Queens, you can only request and it is not guaranteed. There is this annoying noise you hear in the room coming from faucets in the bathroom. Did not get any of the Expedia perks.

Everything excellent, the only thing that must be improved is the strong musty smell in the rooms, probably caused by the area's humid tropical weather. They should install air purifiers or dehumidifiers in their rooms.

We will stay there again and the staff is great wish the water pressure in the rooms was way better. Barely worked while there. Wish you had a shuttle service to and from airport that was available and reasonably priced.

The staff and team are fabulous and very service oriented. The location is great. The small resort lends itself to a cozy feel and it’s really relaxing and not the hustle and bustle. A big downer is it lacks in technology. No TVs in the rooms, no USB chargers, no alarm clocks, etc.

If you are looking for beautiful grounds, and a rustic getaway, this is great. But not 5 start worth. Staff was nice, facility was clean. Rooms were comfortable. The walking area outside the hotel was really neat. Cons to note: If you have a car, don't stay here. They don't have parking. You have to park on the street and pay a parking meter only with coins (no bills or c.card) no joke. It's an enormous burden. Beach: Their beach is approximately 20feet wide x 10 feet deep. No kidding. Above the beach they have some nice palms and loungers on their garden area, but it's not on the sandy beach. Room keys: They are the plastic card type, we asked for 2, and they said sorry we're out. So we ended up sharing one key for 5 days. Reservation: We asked for 2 beds and that was on the reservation. At checkin, they didn't have any ??? so my adult son and I slept on the same bed. TV - they don't have TVs in the room. If you want a rustic getaway, that's probably ok. But if not, it's a little spartan. POOLS and GYM - they close super early.

This resort is absolutely as beautiful as the photos you see on the site. My sister and I stayed for a long weekend and reserved a beachfront cottage which I probably would not do again. We learned that all beaches in Mexico are public beaches. Bungalow 5 is right next to the entrance to the beach and the beach was raucous until 4am. The front desk was extremely accommodating and moved us to Bungalow 2, also beachfront. It was extremely windy so the waves were quite loud but they provide ear plugs. When I return, I'll stay in the bungalows further from the beach. The restaurants serve great food and the service was very good. The front desk is extremely helpful. They have security positioned at all entrances and in front of all the beachfront bungalows. The entrance from the street is gated. We felt very safe here. Five stars for beauty, service, accommodations, and the beautiful beach and sunsets. The only delta is the noise right on the beachfront if you stay in the bungalows.

Wasn’t given upgraded room like VIP Access Hotels normally do (cost me an extra $600), when I searched for the hotel I had “all inclusive only” selected but this place is only PARTIALLY all inclusive (was an extra $900 if I wanted to do it), the “penthouse” I upgraded too has ZERO sound insulation so you can’t sleep because they party until 2am (not kidding) right outside the room, it was not airtight so I got stung by mosquitoes virtually every night, and they wouldn’t let me cancel. Additionally their ad says “hot tub on site” which is false advertising because there is NOT (it’s a jetted tub that’s the same temperature as the pool).

We had a great time at Mahekal. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and very well maintained. The stag was incredible the entire time. They were very attentive and friendly and very personable. The only thing that we didn’t like, or could I say wish was a little better, was the showers in the rooms. The fixtures were outdated and the water pressure was very low. Hard to rinse off your entire body. Especially for my wife and trying to wash her hair and get the shampoo and conditioner out. But seriously…overall we would definitely go back and stay with Mahekal. Absolutely beautiful resort.

This resort is conveniently located on the beach in downtown Playa which makes access to 5th Ave restaurants and shops a short walk. The property is beautiful and well maintained with a nice stretch of beach, multiple pools, restaurants and bars on site. The half board option provides breakfast and the option to choose lunch (which you can order on the beach) or dinner which is perfect if you like to explore local restaurants for dinner. The quality of the food and drinks is very good and the staff deserves a shout out for their fantastic service and attention to detail. Ishmael, Armando, Enrique, Manuel and the rest of the staff too many to name will make you feel at home and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. These guys work really hard and let you know that they appreciate you ‘re staying with them . I don’t typically write reviews but have stayed at this resort on many occasions and continue to return. From what we’ve seen it appeals to singles, couples, groups and families. Mahekal Beach Resort has a beautiful property with unique accommodations and very friendly staff. However, the management at this resort and their complete disregard for customer service tarnished what could have been an excellent vacation. After booking a room with two beds in the Oasis area, I emailed management explaining that I am vacationing with my mother, who is a senior, and that we would require two beds. However, upon check in, I was advised that they could not accommodate my request (because we booked through Expedia and not their website) was offered a discounted price to upgrade into the beach area so we can have two beds. Apart from not wanting to stay by the beach, the price offered was more than the Expedia advertised price. Since they could not provide the reserved room, I requested to cancel the reservation and was then offered a “voluntary downgrade” for a room with two beds in the garden area with no partial refund or credit. I spoke with Expedia who advised that the resort would not allow me to cancel without paying the penalty. Ultimately, I paid over $600 more for a room I didn’t want. I have travelled to many countries and this is the absolute worst in class customer experience I’ve encountered. Additionally, our room did not have hot water for our entire stay and was next to a club that blasted music until 2:30 am on the Thursday. While we were advised of the club upon check in, we were assured that the music ended around 11 pm.

The staff is always AMAZING! But I sent several requests for a specific room and they were ignored. That was my 6th stay at Mahekal so I know what I need. The room they gave me was surrounded by loud people yelling and slamming doors and too close to other noise. There was a leak in the roof and it rained in the room. Not a big deal fortunately not on the bed. I just wished my emails didn’t go ignored. Especially since I am a loyal guest of the hotel.

All the staff at Mahekal were excellent. Abraham was amazing always available to help and accommodate us. He went out of his way to make our experience unforgettable at the hotel and in Playa del Carmen. I highly recommend this place. I would definitely stay here again! We left today and miss it already.

The hotel grounds are lovely, and the view of the (albeit very shallow) section of beach and sea is nice when the sun is out. We liked the proximity to the beach and fuego from our room. However, £700 per person for 4 nights did not reflect the hotel. The rooms are tired, the sun loungers, beanbags etc were all stained,ripped ,bleached. One pool was closed entirely. The service at times was odd. We’d often sit for a long time waiting for menus at lunch, even though there were so many staff around. The food was just ok at fuego. The breakfast had little vegan options, although the staff were lovely & a nice view over the pool. The other a la carte restaurant we tried only once and the food was bad. The hummus was like soup and with no bread? A confused menu. There were no updates/info on the activities (could never find the staff) the concierge never responded on the WhatsApp. We’d go in person to the desk and they were never there. At our 5am checkout we were asked to walk back to the room to get the 2nd plastic key card before they’d let us leave. Once in the cab the security demanded we show a receipt before he’d let us leave, even tho he’d just watched us check out? Could be lovely but needs some serious overhaul with modernisation of the rooms and some injection of initiative to some of the service. Overpriced for a place that reflects a tired 3*. BEWARE: They have HIDDEN CHARGES. Over $200. And they are cold hearted about it. The people at the check in, and Allen, make you wish you hadn’t come. The rest of the staff are great. Especially Sofia !!! She is above and beyond!!! Our chambermaid Rigoberto was good the 1st time he cleaned. After that he stacked all the decorative pillows, etc in a corner from then on. Lazy. There are only 2 restaurants open. The food was really great but it became same old thing after the 1st couple of days with no other places to eat. There is a club close to it and we could hear music in our room every night till about 2:00 AM or so.
BEWARE: They have HIDDEN CHARGES. Over $200. And they are cold hearted about it. The people at the check in, and Allen, make you wish you hadn’t come. The rest of the staff are great. Especially Sofia !!! She is above and beyond!!! Our chambermaid Rigoberto was good the 1st time he cleaned. After that he stacked all the decorative pillows, etc in a corner from then on. Lazy. There are only 2 restaurants open. The food was really great but it became same old thing after the 1st couple of days with no other places to eat. I've been to this property 5 times or more. If I want to stay in a resort in Playa del Carmen, this is the only one I would consider. You are right in town (5th avenue is practically outside the resort) yet it feels like you are in a very natural, almost jungle-ish setting, with a cool vibe and multiple pools and restaurants, and the occasional animal walking by. All other Playa hotels are concrete bunkers by comparison.

This resort is absolutely as beautiful as the photos you see on the site. My sister and I stayed for a long weekend and reserved a beachfront cottage which I probably would not do again. We learned that all beaches in Mexico are public beaches. Bungalow 5 is right next to the entrance to the beach and the beach was raucous until 4am. The front desk was extremely accommodating and moved us to Bungalow 2, also beachfront. It was extremely windy so the waves were quite loud but they provide ear plugs. When I return, I'll stay in the bungalows further from the beach. The restaurants serve great food and the service was very good. The front desk is extremely helpful. They have security positioned at all entrances and in front of all the beachfront bungalows. The entrance from the street is gated. We felt very safe here. Five stars for beauty, service, accommodations, and the beautiful beach and sunsets. The only delta is the noise right on the beachfront if you stay in the bungalows.

Husband and I had a great experience. The staff of the Resort was friendly and very helpful. We noticed they are also hard workers, they were keeping the place clean at all times. This Resort is very close to the 5th Avenue the Main Street at Playa de Carmen .. walking distance to many restaurants, stores and fun!

Property is well located. Beach has lots of seaweed. 3 pools not large enough to accommodate all guests. Hotel does weddings and therefore closes down the pool area for wedding party setup which is the only area at this hotel that can accommodate a wedding. Other guests are frequently inconvenienced. This happened twice to us. Restaurants are overpriced for the quality of the food and wine. Staff are friendly but do not anticipate the guest needs. More training needed.

I don’t typically write reviews. I will try to be fair and give both the good and the bad. The resort is small, which is what my wife and I wanted. It is cleverly configured making it a joy to walk. The winding paths bend through lush wild gardens and at every turn there seems to be a new, undiscovered secret. Because the paths meander through the resort, you can get a decent walk in despite the size of the property. Be respectful though, some paths dead end into the front door of guest accommodations. The accommodations are charming! We opted for a small private beachfront room which was a single concrete hut with a thatch roof. They are cute and serviceable but not overly luxurious. There are no TV’s in the rooms which didn’t matter to my wife and I, but seemed slightly odd. The huts have 0 sound proofing, so if you are looking to get to sleep before 10pm (when the music ends) opt for a garden room near the spa instead. There are only 2 restaurants open currently: the buffet and the ocean side restaurant. The buffet is nothing special. Fuego, the ocean side restaurant, though, has some truly stand out dishes. Take my advice: be adventurous and try some of their more unique offerings and the chef specials. You will not regret it. The beach front is small but comfortable. There is also a charming touristy strip of shops and restaurants literally just outside of the resort that are safe to explore. Service was not 5 star: staff we friendly enough just not very attentive.

One of the restaurants "La Cocina" was closed and the price for the all inclusive package wasn\'t altered in consideration of that. Other resorts along the beach were loud at night sometimes even up to early hours in the morning. The resort had 2 open restaurants, 2 bars, a giftshop/Starbucks, and an arts/crafts area. They had spa on the resort called "Revive" which had great service, but the massages were overpriced. There were a few excursions offered along the Playa Del Carmen beachfront, but not near as many as Cancun had. Overall, it was a good experience, but I feel as if more could have been included with the packages offered.

Beautiful property! Good Beach. The bar and restaurant staff are incredible. The front desk staff-not so much. Food is good, but more variety would be better. The buffet gets boring as it’s the same thing all the time.

The Mahekal was excellent, we really enjoyed our stay. Disappointed in Expedia though. After purchasing the package, the Mahekal reached out to inform me a two different fees that would be charged upon arrival. It was $400 extra for all inclusive (which was well worth it) but the hotel needed an additional $15 a day per person payable onsite that Expedia did not mention. Expedia didn’t help at all.

The staff were amazing and very attentive. The accommodation on the beach was spectacular although one night there was loud noise coming from a local nightclub that disturbed our sleep but that was only one night. The food was exceptional and in one restaurant changed each night. Plenty of pools to lounge by and it was very secure with security guards on the beach and at each entrance. The one downside was that some gym equipment need replacing. Overall I would go again.

The only complaint I have is with the dinner food at the buffet. Never ate lunch there so I can’t speak to that. Breakfast was pretty good. Dinner was not good, I recommend eating at Fuego or off the resort.

Det mest magiske sted! Lokationen er god, direkte adgang til strand og pool. Personalet er så søde. Franko og de andre mænd skulle beskære palmer med kokos og sørgede for vi fik friske kokosnødder at drikke. Sikkerhedsmænd, personalet i restauranten og reception - alle er bare så søde og venlige! Maden er god, både morgenmad og roomservice :)

Fechadura eletrônica do quarto quebrada. Cama média em relação a conforto. Não fiquem nesse hotel. O preço é muito caro comparado a outros.

Amazing hotel right by the beach. They also had a coffee shop in the hotel and their gym and day activities were so fun. They had merengue classes, water aerobics, Pilates, yoga, and so many other activities throughout the resort. Their spa was amazing too, we got facials and massages and the staff were so nice. Definitely recommend, great location!!

Please beware of the "Resort Fees" I had to pay an additional amount and according to them it was resort fees, environmental fees, and service fee. At first I thought it was okay but then I remembered that is not what was on my Expedia paper and when I asked for more explanation they said I didn't pay it. Upon check out I noticed all those fees were already detailed in what I had paid through Expedia. The hotel was also a bit dirty. Chairs in one of the lounges were dirty. Cocina restaurant was closed and we were not aware until after we checked in. Should be told when booking. One pool was also closed for a private event for one of the days. I think this information should be communicated when booked. The resort should reach out to the guest who book. Pools were not cleaned daily and there was bugs and leaves on the pool. Pool chairs had dirty pillows. Jacuzzi does not work. Jets worked but water was not warm at all. LOTS of mosquitos not the resorts fault but beware. Some staff were friendly but the manager who I spoke to about the fees was a little heated.
