Candlewood Suites Destin-Sandestin Area by IHG

When we arrived we were told the elevator was not working. They offered a comp night, but because we paid Expedia they couldn’t guarantee the refund. There were broken fixtures in the room and the shampoo, conditioner, body soap dispensers were empty.

We got stuck in the elevator for 20 min

Hard to enter and leave.parking lot. One elevator that stops. Lack of some one at front desk. Some front desk persons have no idea what to do. Lack of security doors open until 11 pm. A lot of people sitting in main opening...phone in room never worked or fixed. Only thing I liked was the carpet in hallways.

Beds were comfortable, other than that not much else. Coffee machines in lobby were broken “out of order” when asked staff for more in room coffee packets they the hotel didn’t have any. Tha staff said no matter how long you stay you only get the one packet in your room after you arrive. All the shelves in the lobby were empty and there was no propane for the grills by the pool. 👎👎

The elevator was broken for the full 7 days of stay! Front desk was rude the whole trip! Tv did not work! Toilet overflowed & was told sorry we only clean every 7!days

Initially when coming to check in the employee at the desk was in pajamas and literally limping to the counter. She seemed very sick. That’s whatever. I understand you gotta get a paycheck. She then informed me that the elevators were down. If I had been informed this I would have chose somewhere else. We were on the 4th floor with lots of luggage. When we reached the 4th floor there was a foul smell in the hallway. The room itself was nice. I was under the impression there would be a couch but there was not.

Good location, but could use a better amenities, including the workout room (hot and not organized) and pool area. Slow elevator.

First, the receptionist was very nice and informative about the elevators being out and giving me the option of finding another place before she charged me. But, it looked like a very sketchy place with people hanging all out like it was a party, the climb up the 4 flights of stairs revealed a musty smell in the stairway, the paint on the walls was old, the room was smelly and old attire. I sprayed everything down with Lysol and bleach wipes just so we felt comfortable staying the night. It was definitely not our cut of tea!

Smells like a horse stable inside the property. They allow pets and has a very strong smell of animal urine and such. Extremely covered up with some sort of spray. Cleanliness is not present and property is run down. Was disappointed.

The entire hotel smells of mildew, the stairwell smells so bad we would hold our breath until we got out. When I pulled the sheets back on the bed it was covered in random hair and a bug crawled out from under the pillow. I couldn’t tell you the last time they may have used a vacuum. It was a long weekend for us, I highly recommend that you book anywhere else besides Candlewood suites.

This was one of the dirtiest smelliest hotels that I’ve ever stayed in in my 57 years of living on gods green earth that that you let dogs stay in rooms not a problem. The problem is you don’t properly clean the rooms after. Ripped shower curtains The manager try to say that it is the air conditioning that puts out a smell but it’s not. It smells like that on every single floor and the three rooms that I checked out were pretty bad. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone stay away you’ll thank me later.

Bed bugs!!!!

Our room wasn’t clean, and it smelled rancid. The bathroom was nasty, toilet paper left in the toilet and not flushed. The room itself smelled extremely musky and the couch more like sewage with questionable stains. We asked for a blanket and pillow before smelling the couch and seeing the stains for our daughter and was given a fitted sheet as a blanket. Our daughter ended up having to sleep with my husband and I.

Entire hotel has extremely strong smells. Soon as you walk in chemical smells. Elevator smells like food and hallways smell mildew

The room was disgusting and had roaches. It was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. Almost $200 for only one night and it felt like I stayed at a cheap motel. I demanded to be compensated for a terrible stay and all they gave me were IHG points. They showed no care for the condition of the building. The place smelled horrible. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great location! However, this hotel had a terrible smell throughout the halls and room. I was on the 2nd floor and the smell forced me to keep my window open the entire time I was in the room. Worst smelling hotel halls snd room I have ever stayed in!

Room was cleaned poorly and had really bad odor like rotten food or something down the drain.

It was a good stay for me and my partner. The only issue that we encountered was our deadbolt didn't lock and the AC was louder than most I have had in any room. Other than that all was well for the weekend.

The only thing I didn't like was we were not able to feel any air in the bedroom in the suite.

Bedroom size & overall size of stay was excellent. Food for purchase was available but very expensive. Bed was comfortable.

Overall the stay was good the front desk staff was amazing. The hotel could use some sound proofing, but it was still a good stay. Our bathroom didn’t have a fan for shower steam or a hair dryer but still it was a good stay!

Loved the spacious suites. Our family slept comfortably. We truly enjoyed our time here.

Service is good and property is clean. I do not like the TV on the side of the bed. room layout seems strange. The desk faces the wall and not the TV or window.

Decent hotel that is pet friendly and not too far from the beach and other attractions. It only had one elevator, so you could be waiting up to 5 minutes to go down from the top floor. I was charged a higher price for my dogs than what I was told over the phone and when I first arrived. The full size fridge was a plus and kitchen area with various ammenities.

My checking in process made me mad because I was given the wrong room then was told that it was Expedia fault for Expedia to tell me that it was the hotels fault.By the end of the day I ended up getting my room when I went back downstairs cause I had a feeling something wasn’t right.Other then the room mix up part and the tv not having sound it was a pretty good stay.When I told them about the tv problem the issue was fixed within 15 minutes.This hotel is in a very good spot it sits on the strip (is what I call it) everything is basically on that one road.We stayed here 4 years ago when they had all that construction in 2021 now in February 2025 it looks nice .

Everything was good and good service and friendly staff and the room was nice and spacious and accommodated me well

Not good! Bathroom had female pads that were used in the garbage! No front desk support! Went to desk and was given a bag to throw them away! Stated that she would give room discount but never received it!

The property was clean and hotel staff was accommodating.

Staff was never around and after a wait at the front desk an employee would show up and act totally put out that we bothered them. Housekeeping is only if your stay is more than 7 days so we never say anyone. Need fresh towels? Go wait at the front desk for someone to come back then get the attitude.

So very customer service oriented. All staff was helpful and delightful Had everything we needed and had a very comfortable stay.

Clean room with great staff.

Staff is not friendly, not helpful at all they are too busy talking on their phones. Elevator were not working when I checked in, asked front office what should we do since our bags are heavy, attendant said take the stairs then proceeds to get back to talking on her phone. Everyone I go to for assistance is busy talking on their phone.

First time staying at Candlewood Suites and all was good and except for bed being a little hard than I’m use to but overall the stay was good. Location to beach, food was awesome. Definitely would stay again.

Close to everything

The location was great.

I love how close it was to the beach and how the property was very accomdating to its guests.

Rooms were dirty upon arrival. Dimly lit parking lot. Also, tried 2 different rooms that both were in dirty-dingy conditions. Front desk staff was excellent and friendly.

When I arrived the front desk staff arrival was 8/22-8/23 got there @3:30 Very sweet helpful young lady. As for the dont like early morning staff of 8/23 outlets in the room didnt all work , Had coffee packets but no way to make , asked if i could have some in downstair kitchen room said yes but made me feel it was my fault.

We got there and the coffee bar did not work. The girl had a snotty attitude at the front desk and said that she didn’t know when it would get fixed then we got to our room and the room had only two towels and two rags. Then, the next night after we checked, and all the outlets in the room, quit working, another lights would turn on. Then when I called the girl at the front desk, she said that there was no on-site maintenance man which makes me question what happens in the event of an emergency when you need someone there that knows how to fix things she then told me she could switch rooms I said sure, when I go downstairs, I cannot get a hold of her or could not get a hold of anyone. I had to ring the bell several times why are they not sitting at the front counter when that’s their whole job is to sit at the front counter and why is there a bell to get someone’s attention? What are they doing that they’re so concerned in the back that they can’t come up to the front ? Then in our new room we didn’t have silverware we didn’t have pots we didn’t have pans. I had one pot that I had to cook eggs in and eventually that didn’t work so then I had to put the eggs in the microwave if you’re going to use the brand-name candlewood suites and you’re going to claim that you have kitchenettes and it’s a world-class experience and you have a coffee bar and you have a fully stock shop at then stick to those standards . The shot that was completely empty. The shelves were bare.
