Lovely Majestic welcoming hotel with very helpful, friendly staff. Wide clear corridor access to large, well thought out disability rooms. Comfortable large lounge bar area with great ambience. Dog friendly with large enclosed lawns. Easy parking. We will definitely be going here again.

So disappointing, for starters the pool is not on the property and is a six minute drive so it’s inconvenience when you don’t have a car with you because you have to book an Uber back and forth or otherwise it’s a 48 minute walk. Also when you get to the Roko gym they give you vouchers for, a towel each is £15, otherwise you have to bring your hotel towel and bring back the towel to the hotel , which is so inconvenient! No bathrobe provided as stated so bring your own if you want! The hotel is outdated and our floor had the hallway with mould on the ceilings and there was even a hole with a bucket filled with dripping water underneath! The cleanliness is appalling with dirty light switches, broken side frames, broken cupboard inside the room, broken window in bedroom meaning pain in hot weather in the night, no AC or fan in room so boiling, broken toilet flush so have to push down gently because hanging off and shaky lift with worn out unsafe conditions!! Also, when we went there was machine noise from outside going on like a lawn mower throughout the night and even the morning after! Only good things are the staff at reception who tried to raise issues with manager, the staff in the restaurant and the breakfast!

Be aware that only half of this hotel has elevator access. Staff communication is questionable, we were booked in for dinner only for to find out when we arrived that reception was not aware that the entire dinning room was booked for a tour bus group. We had to eat in the bar. Morning breakfast with the same tour group was very disorganised, and it was very much first come first serve for seating.

Ample free parking with disabled spaces and a dedicated area for bikes and motorcycles close to the main entrance. Checking in was quick. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar and lounge areas were spacious and comfortable. Bar staff seemed a bit inexperienced and in need of training or supervision. We were there for an Army reunion which included a gala dinner for more than forty of us which was the highlight of the weekend. The quality of the food was excellent and cooked to perfection. Hats off to the Chef. The rooms were a bit tired and the furniture a bit tatty but everything worked, was serviceable and comfortable. The cost was very competitive to similar hotels in the area and I would definitely stay again without hesitation.

The car park is large and clean, the reception area is nice and bright, the reception staff are polite and smartly dressed, dining area was average had to ask for condiments not on all the tables, Air condition was a bit cold we and other people had to move tables to get away from the it. The bedroom window would not open, the room was to hot at night even though the temperature was down, The room is a bit outdated needs upgrading, If you wanted to go into York on the bus the is outside the hotel which is very convenient, from that everything was ok

It is very close to a park and ride that takes you to centre of York. The grounds are very spacious. There is no lift to some parts of the hotel.

Breakfast was the best part of my stay. Early start and decent food variety. I booked a suite room, however I had to view the photos to be sure I wasn’t in a wrong room. Tired to say the least , old furniture stained carpet, tired bathroom with a noisy extractor fan , tiny bedroom tv that was old too. Good parking and the restaurant food , my choice was ok but the room was like a retirement home room in its decor and no ambience unfortunately.

Generally good. We had a room with a broken toilet seat, and we were moved to another room straight away by a very helpful young woman in reception. Unfortunately, the new room had a bathroom fan that was incredibly noisy, but we didn't want another move. The Wi-Fi service is fairly poor, but this is a difficult problem in hotels as people sit in their rooms streaming video on the likes of Netflix - adding more capacity just means they now stream at 4K quality, and your connection is still maxed out. They tried to help by giving us access to the conference wifi network, but it wasn't much better. Breakfast was of really good quality, though they seemed very understaffed. Every time we came down in the morning, there weren't staff there as they appeared to be running around having to deal with something. I hate to raise this thing with management at the time as it just ends up with them coming down on staff and telling them to be more visible rather than addressing the problems they're being pulled away to fix. The car park could benefit from just a minimum of lighting. It was so dark when we parked it was hard to see where I was parking the car, and I was quite nervous walking from the car to the hotel. Apart from that, the rooms were clean and well-serviced, the beds and bathroom were clean, and the shower had plenty of hot water at good pressure. The communal areas were well-kept. The service was great.

On main road so expect noise didn’t worry us. Hotel is old so a bit shabby and outdated. No towel rack in room, so doing green thing and not changing towels daily ended up with wet towels next day for shower. Shower over bath. Cold shower second day blamed on tour bus group leaving that morning, there system should be able to cope. Very convenient bus to York city just across the road and only 2 pounds per adult, more convenient and cheaper than driving car in.

We have stayed before and found it to be excellent. Unfortunately, this time there was excrement on the duvet.The bathroom wasn't up to speck either. I'm sure this was a one off though and wouldn't stop us from returning. Plenty of choice for breakfast, but need to invest in better hash browns.

We really enjoyed our stay, the room was clean and spacious,the bed was comfortable and large. All the staff were friendly and attentive, breakfast was top quality with a great choice of top quality food. Would definitely recommend this hotel to freinds and family.

The bed linen had hair and fluid stains on it. It had not been changed. The manager told us we have to change to clean ones ourselves. We had to take the dirty sheets off the beds and change it ourselves. The manager not interested at all. Very, very dirty room. Had not been cleaned. Very poor standards.

We were given room 308 When my husband washed his hands the water drained very slowly and lifted up the plug to find it clogged with hair and gunge. He took a photo, went down to reception. We were offered a room swap immediately and were happy this was resolved quickly. However we were still shocked that this sink had been left like this and not checked.

Old property been given a lock of paint and rebranded under the Mercure brand. Fixtures and fittings in room reminiscent of 1970s and this is not by design. Broken taps and drain cap in bath. Mouldy shower taps. Broken tiles and old hair in bathroom. We will not be staying here again and will not be staying with Mercure brand ever again.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was roomy and our bed was very comfortable. Our room and bathroom were very clean. Public areas were comfortable. The only downside for us was that we had to eat in the bar as there was a conference and coach parties in the restaurant.

Visited for a three-day business trip to York. Lovely hotel 3 or so miles from York City Centre. Room was very clean, the bed very comfortable. The bathroom is a little dated but again, spotlessly clean. I had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant on all three days and whilst not the cheapest meals I have had in Hotel restaurants, the quality was very good. Service was excellent. After a run, I tried to purchase a bottle of water but the bar only had sparkling. The young lady behind the bar offered me a pint of tap water for which no charge was made. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again

Recent short notice stay at this hotel. We were warned about the work going in the bar/restaurant area. Good points were friendly and helpful staff and decent quality food. The breakfast was being served in what looked like a meeting room and was typical full English hotel breakfast, but perfectly fine. We ordered room service in the evening using their app. Food was delivered quickly and hot. Really good quality, if a little pricey. The hotel is also in a useful location with attractive grounds and plenty of parking. WiFi was fast and easy to connect to. The main downside, however, was the standard of the room and the general decor of the communal areas. The room was well below the standard of a 4 star hotel and the bathroom very tired - the sticker on the heated towel rail stating it had failed electrical inspection was particularly unimpressive. Toilet didn't flush very well and the sink was very slow to drain. Overall, not a terrible stay by any means but difficult to recommend in its current state. Does look as if the company is starting to modernise, however and it is in a good location for the north side of York

Family room: Only used hotel as a base to sleep at. Grounds were well kept Room decor was very tired looking with no handles on wardrobe door, sink was well worn and looked dirty but the worst part was room was stifling hot to the extent we had to run a small fan all night and rarely used covers. Room was on ground floor facing the road so we couldnt leave window open at night for air. The area outside the window was also used for bus parking so the view from the window for our stay was a bright yellow bus about 5 feet away which was replaced by a white bus 2 days later. As a base to explore from it was cheap and did the job but wouldnt rush back.

Room was clean but well used. It was in the old manor side of the building with no lift which was an issue also our room was at the end of a labyrinth of corridors and fire doors. However this was off-set by the excellent breakfast and friendly staff.

Evening food was good but breakfast was dried up hash browns and over cooked fried eggs runny scrambled eggs not so good. We had a superior room and was disappointed, every floor board creaked and we felt we needed to creep around so we didn't disturb other guests. shelf missing from the brackets in the bathroom bath panel battered and taped up sink plug kept getting jammed and the shower wouldn't turn off properly without force. Definatly not superior .

We had a superior room and was disappointed, every floor board creaked and we felt we needed to creep around so we didn't disturb other guests. shelf missing from the brackets in the bathroom bath panel battered and taped up sink plug kept getting jammed and the shower wouldn't turn off properly without force. Definatly not superior .

Excellent location near a park and ride. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Unfortunately there were a few issues we were not happy with - The floorboards outside our room along the corridor and as you walked into our room were extremely squeaky, which was bothersome at night. The AC in our room was broken and therefore we had to leave the window open as it was very warm in the room although an electric fan was provided.Being near the railway it was noisy at night when the trains went by. The shower water temperature often went to scalding hot so we had to be very careful when taking a shower. The shower/bath/toilet room was a bit outdated and needed updating/modernising as it was difficult to step into the bath to have a shower. Also the toilet seat kept moving even though we screwed it tight on a number of occasions. The room however was a nice size with a large comfortable bed and a separate single bed. But the large bed seemed too big for its position as the small wall lights were over the bed itself and we were constantly banging our heads when trying to sit up to read. Breakfast was very good with a good selection of different things to eat and drink and the staff were very polite and attentive. Parking was very good with lots of spaces and the grounds were nice for a little walk. We have stayed in Mercure Hotels a few times and have never been disappointed but Fairfield Manor needs some TLC to make it more appealing.

The main areas in the hotel are fairly modern, however, our room was out dated. The heating did not work and the shower was very temperamental. The staff definitely make this place. Everyone was so polite and friendly. Overall, we had a good stay and we would recommend this hotel to others as it is well priced.

Breakfast was the best part of my stay. Early start and decent food variety. I booked a suite room, however I had to view the photos to be sure I wasn’t in a wrong room. Tired to say the least , old furniture stained carpet, tired bathroom with a noisy extractor fan , tiny bedroom tv that was old too. Good parking and the restaurant food , my choice was ok but the room was like a retirement home room in its decor and no ambience unfortunately.
Breakfast was the best part of my stay. Early start and decent food variety. I booked a suite room, however I had to view the photos to be sure I wasn’t in a wrong room. Tired to say the least , old furniture stained carpet, tired bathroom with a noisy extractor fan , tiny bedroom tv that was old too. Had a great stay overnight with my wife and our Guide Dog made very welcome when we arrived. Then in the morning we went to have breakfast, the young man did not understand the law on service dogs the restaurant manager was called he also did not Know the law we showed him a copy of the discrimination laws which we always carry with us , we were told we could sit in the lobby or they might let us in a side room. What was up until then a very enjoyable stay , was spoiled by being treated like a second class citzen. Please train your staff on the laws of England reguarding Service Dogs, as the incident caused my wife great stress and left her feeling very unhappy so much so that the day we had planned to visit York was cancelled and we just went home

Be aware that only half of this hotel has elevator access. Staff communication is questionable, we were booked in for dinner only for to find out when we arrived that reception was not aware that the entire dinning room was booked for a tour bus group. We had to eat in the bar. Morning breakfast with the same tour group was very disorganised, and it was very much first come first serve for seating.

No heating, blocked sink, staff barging into room whilst I was on the toilet regardless of a do not disturb sign. And to top it all off they have charged us twice. Absolute shambles (no York pun intended) And when I complained or pointed out the mess they simply said ‘oh well … sorry about all that. Avoid.

Cant fault the hotel itself but on several occasions my wife and i were (in our opinion) deliberately over charged every time we ordered food or short changed ar the bar! This was always by the evening staff and im not sure if this is there way of bumping up their wages.

Dated like most Mercure hotels, however location was great for us just off the Ring Road convenient for monks cross. We chose this hotel as an alternative to the Novotel in the centre and it turned out to be a good choice.

The hotel offers a fantastic buffet breakfast which we truly enjoyed. The room was very spacious, quiet and very clean. All amenities work and we were provided toiletries and towels to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. We just wish the hotel had better transportation links at night from the city centre but this is not to blame on the hotel, just make note as you stay that you may need to walk and/or hire taxi/ubers to move in and out of the hotel depending on the time of the day. The staff was very friendly and they allow dogs in the hotel which is amazing; we’ll make sure to return with our furry one next time!

Great staff who were friendly and accommodating. Generally the room and bathroom was clean. Some improvement could be made within the rooms. For instance upgrading general decor/condition of rooms. Temperature control would be useful. Our door was temperamental. Good location for park and ride use.

Enjoyed our stay until breakfast. It clearly stated in the information in our room that breakfast is served till 10am. We went for breakfast at 9.30 but everything was being cleared away. We did have a full breakfast but felt under pressure to finish quickly. Such a shame to end a lovely stay on a low note.

Enjoyed a lovely relaxing stay at the Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel. Warm and friendly welcome on arrival. Very straightforward check-in and then to our room which was spacious and everything to our liking. We ate evening dinner in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Breakfast in the a.m was also excellent ... So many choices to suit everyones tastes. Staff were very professional and friendly. We would definitely visit again if staying over in York. Ideally placed geographically being only about a 12 min drive to York city parking near the Minster. We rated our vist 5 out of 5 stars.

The hotel was in a good locationand although it offered the opportunity to use a local health club facilities on site would be an improvement. The staff were very helpful and all very polite and had smiley faces. We had breakfast and evening meal in the hotel for all 5 days. I woykd suggest the the dining room seemed a bit chilly as the air conditioning was on. The food was all very good with plenty of choice all cooked to a good standard. We took advantage of the 2 courses for £18 evening meal but there was some confusion when we paid the bill which i had to question as some meals gadnt been charged at the correct rate(£36 for 2 people) I think it was because some food was in the offer some was not. The old system they had where all food was in the offer but certain foods had an additional cost( eg steak) the staff said was more straight forward. Having said the the food bill was sorted to our satisfaction. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitly return and consider Mercure hotels for future breaks

Was lovely and very comfortable, the food in the Restaurant was poor quality I had steak and ale pie there was very little meat in the pie and the potatoes tasted as if they had been cooked days before and microwaved , I then ordered a coconut panacotta dessert which should be soft and melt in your mouth, this was like tasteless overset Jelly that I had to chew I only had a couple of spoonfuls before I left it. I was angry when I looked at my receipt to see I had been charged 20% service charge without asking me first. I had to go to the bar to order my meal then the server dumped my plate in front of me and said your cutlery in the box on the table, this is not the kind of service I expect to have to pay 20% surcharge for and service charge in the UK is not compulsory so should always optional. For this reason I wouldn’t recommend there restaurant. Thankfully the breakfast was much better

Visited for a three-day business trip to York. Lovely hotel 3 or so miles from York City Centre. Room was very clean, the bed very comfortable. The bathroom is a little dated but again, spotlessly clean. I had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant on all three days and whilst not the cheapest meals I have had in Hotel restaurants, the quality was very good. Service was excellent. After a run, I tried to purchase a bottle of water but the bar only had sparkling. The young lady behind the bar offered me a pint of tap water for which no charge was made. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again

All was well, but the dining room, in the evening, was very cold with the A/C on. We had to get a cardigan and jumper. Also we had to wait quite a while for someone to take our order, even though there were only about 5 tables in use. Otherwise all OK.

Entrance stank of dog pee , so overwhelming you couldn’t sit outside in the heat or enjoy the grounds. Lobby was lovely , staff friendly and helpful . Clean . We were in a family room and although the room was huge , the bathroom was tiny and not the cleanest . The top lighting holder above the sink sounded like it was going to fall off every time the door closed , no bath plug so if you have little ones they can’t have a bath . No bin bags or bin liners . One small wardrobe for a family and a tiny set of drawers is not really adequate. No plug sockets for modern living I think the room was very outdated . Massive Burn marks on the carpet and under the beds were gross even though the room appeared clean ( hunting for boy dropping stuff ) . Tv had no smart features so on an evening we couldn’t link it to Netflix or Disney etc on our personal accounts . On a plus the bedding and towels were all clean and we had no real issues bar the room needing updating . Bar was random , had us download an app for a free house beer that wasn’t the best . No fruit shoots or similar for kids ,no decent beer on tap eg no Cruz or coors , bud etc , had to buy bottles . Food menu limited although the food did look nice .
Entrance stank of dog pee , so overwhelming you couldn’t sit outside in the heat or enjoy the grounds. Lobby was lovely , staff friendly and helpful . Clean . We were in a family room and although the room was huge , the bathroom was tiny and not the cleanest . The top lighting holder above the sink sounded like it was going to fall off every time the door closed , no bath plug so if you have little ones they can’t have a bath . No bin bags or bin liners . One small wardrobe for a family and a tiny set of drawers is not really adequate. No plug sockets for modern living I think the room was very outdated . Massive Burn marks on the carpet and under the beds were gross even though the room appeared clean ( hunting for boy dropping stuff ) . Tv had no smart features so on an evening we couldn’t link it to Netflix or Disney etc on our personal accounts . On a plus the bedding and towels were all clean and we had no real issues bar the room needing updating . Bar was random , had us download an app for a free house beer that wasn’t the best . No fruit shoots or similar for kids ,no decent beer on tap eg no Cruz or coors , bud etc , had to buy bottles . Food menu limited although the food did look nice .
