Adequate onsite parking, prompt and swift check in, good clean room. Restaurant food and service was good. Sudeep was very good and everywhere needed there to serve!

When we arrived at the hotel we had to wait over 7 mins for someone to come to the reception desk. However, they were very helpful and gave us lots of good information. Some of the areas of the hotel had been refurbished. Our room needed a bit of an update but had everything you needed and had a lovely view of the common and was very quiet at night. Bed was very comfy too. We ate at the hotel in the evening and the restaurant and bar staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. Breakfast in the morning again was delicious and food portion size was good. We would definitely stay here again as it is right on the doorstep of some beautiful walks around the Devil's Punchbowl.

Good value for money. The staff are very nice and welcoming and helpful. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant and bar. The property is old and a little worn but everything works and it is comfortable.

The hotel is a little run down but the room was comfortable, the pub/restaurant downstairs recently refurbished with good food and breakfast was good. For what I paid I was more than satisfied. Great location for walking.

The restaurant has been refurbished and we had a lovely meal with excellent service. The hotel is sadly in need of similar treatment and the bathroom refurbishment is overdue. However, it was cheap, clean and comfortable, and served our purpose.

Needs a bit of an update as a bit run down in areas, but the price reflects that so worked for us. Pub great, location next to Devils Punchbowl excellent and staff very friendly.

Very tired and unloved hotel. Obviously not updated for a long time. Mould in the rooms, horrible off smell in the en-suite. Buckets in the hall way to catch the leaks from the roof.

Very tired building with a damp smell everywhere. The rooms was dirty and smelled. Lack of staff at check in and check out. We thought the restaurant staff were guest as was wearing a biker’s leather jacket to serve us. Asked for a fruit juice with breakfast and was told that there will be an extra charge! Never ever had that before. Breakfast was good. External car park was filthy and hotel full of contractors as struggled to park as big dirty vans just parked any old how!

Let's start with the positives. The breakfasts were good, and the young ladies serving were very friendly and efficient. The dining room was well decorated and clean. Unfortunately, the bedroom was very disappointing. The bedside unit had the front of the drawer missing. The windowsills were filthy. There was a very strong smell of mould and damp in the room. Around the base of the taps and the overflow in the bathroom was black grime. I could go on, but suffice to say, it was all very tired and in need of a good scrub, especially the carpet.

A very tired and in parts run down and Dated Hotel very smelly and Musty in parts room not very clean and Dusty. electric socket Broken light shade Broken beds uncomfortable pillows old and flat Bathroom tile floor tiles Cracked, sink plug Broken, cold tap not working correctly. All in all we tolerated one nights stay would not recommend nor stay there again.

Unfortunately, following a late arrival and a welcoming check in, the room and bathroom were unbelievably tired, unclean and uncomfortable. After a restless sleep on creaking bed and thin mattress, daylight showed the bathroom to have last been cleaned goodness knows when. Mould/hair/soap scum/flaking paint, heavy dust in a bathroom that hasn’t seen any attention for years. This was not purely the result of poor housekeeping, but a pretty obvious lack of management, training and care. As I checked out, the couple ahead were also complaining about the cleanliness. I cannot recall a time after using a bathroom that I felt dirtier after I had used it. It goes without saying that I would never return.

Mould everywhere on ceilings in the room and bathroom. Shower barely worked, Tao was broken. Wallpaper peeling off in the bedroom. It was just awful. It’s well overdue a renovation , I wouldn’t even consider it healthy to stay in the room as there was mould. I checked out as early as possible as I was just so unhappy with the room. No telephone in the room to call concierge /help desk despite the reception staff advising to call if we need anything.

The plus's: Friendly welcome. Plenty of parking. Clean sheets and towels. Large room. Good price. The minus's: Filthy carpet edges and behind furniture, really had not seen a hoover in years. Toilet and toilet brush were disgusting so much so we bought some bleach and cleaned them ourselves. What a pity as it could be great!

It’s fine if you only have a very short stay. When you walk in there is a funny smell throughout the whole of the hallway. Luckily this isn’t in the room. There were a load of dead flies on the window sills of the stairs as well. Carpets and general cleanliness of the stairways was terrible, which made us worried for what our room would be like. Room was serviceable. Linen and towels were all clean. Didn’t pull the sheets back to check the mattress as it was likely not clean, as there were no mattress protectors. Dry aged decor. Bathroom was ok, not the cleanest. Strange mark in the toilet, which we couldn’t remove. Breakfast was nice, but charged extra, so not included. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for and this is definitely on the more budget end of the accommodation scale.

After attractive, updated lobby there was dirty, flaky & damaged paintwork esp. on doors & scuffed walls in corridors . Only one old lamp on scruffy table between twin beds, very rusty towel rail in ‘tired’ bathroom with badly flushing toilet. Uncomfortably soft bed. Only 1 pillow with case on beds, no pillowcase on additional pillows in wardrobe.

Hotel room was a good size and comfortable, with lots of cabinets for storage. The bed was also very comfortable. But the cleanliness was not brilliant...there was some dirt blobs and even toothpaste flecks on the wall behind the sink, and the glass shelving for toiletries was dirty. Also, in my room, there was lots of mould on the entire upper half of the window wall in the bathroom. The window surrounds were also black with mould. The rooms were absolutely baking and none of our rooms had aircon. Despite turning the radiators completely off and leaving the windows open, the rooms were unbearably hot at night. This was the first weekend in May and only 17 degrees outside, so I guess the rooms would be stifling in the summer...so bring your own fans (cos the hotel couldn't supply any!). Unbelievably, considering the price, the rooms also did not have mini fridges, phones or extractor fans in the bathrooms. The restaurant food and the breakfasts were really good, if a teeny bit pricey, and the service was also very good, with very pleasant staff.

As a family we booked 2 rooms b&b to attend a wedding so luckily didn't have to spend much time in the hotel. The dining room and bar looked lovely but beyond that the carpets were stained, the paint was coming off the doors and it smelt damp and musty. We were in downstairs rooms and there were no central lights, only table lamps & wall lights with thick shades making the rooms really dark. The extractor fans in the bathrooms didn't work so the rooms were damp, smelly and there was mould all over the window recesses and the carpets were really stained. Our TV kept losing it's signal, the "complimentary" toiletries were 3 dispensers of hand wash/lotion, there was one packet of biscuits & tea/coffee sachets that weren't replenished the next morning - infact it didn't look like anyone had been in the room to clean as the bins were in emptied and the wet towels hadn't moved. The breakfast menu had 5 options - full English, 3 types of egg options and blueberry pancakes that the waitress admitted they never have. There was tea, coffee and water. Not suitable for children as there was no cereal or jam available. I had to pay the waitress for a cordial from the bar for my daughter. I've given it 1 star as the towels were nice and there was plenty of hot water. Also my mum has poor mobility so the receptionist swapped her 3rd floor room for ground floor. There was no lift and nobody offered to help with bags so it would have been a nightmare getting everything up the stairs.

a great stay as always, an amazing place to stay to walk the bowl. such a pretty area. the hotel is good, possible issue with creaky floors. shower was always hot, staff are friendly and helpful. i will stay again as it stay here often

We just wanted a room for 6 nights. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, but the floorboards need attention.The hot water was excellent but the sink didn't hold the water. Even with the plug in, the water just ran away. Also the hot tap needs replacing. We had the utmost difficulty in turning it off. There was a constant drip from it Having said all this, our stay was comfortable and in a very quiet area.

The hotel was once on the main road but now on a no through road .The hotel was a nice size with plenty of safe parking .The rooms were a good size with good wi fi . The only issue I had was that the shower was of poor quality with low pressure .It was a mere dribble .I did complain and was told that maintenance would deal with it . It was not fixed I reported again but the following day I was told it could not be fixed .A new room was offered but it was on the ground floor .I declined as our room . was very quiet . A shame as this was the only issue .

Needs some maintenance

The staff were really friendly and lovely and the stay was so value for money with breakfast included. The bed was also quite comfy and the room was nice and warm. The decor is a little outdated but that doesn't affect the stay at all. The pub was decent and although we didnt try the food, the menu looked great.

Whilst I understand the venue is aged I didn’t think either the level of customer care (I waited over 5 mins at reception after letting a staff member in the bar know I’d arrived to check in) or the cleanliness and decor were up to standard of acceptability. A fire alarm sounded just after 6am but no info was given and eventually it was turned off. On checking out there was no sight of any staff to relay these points. A shame because the area in which the venue is situated is stunning. It needs modernising and a good scrub!! TW.

I am a regular visitor to the hotel as often work in the area. It's a great location, friendly staff, it's quite at night apart from the creaking of the floorboards . The area is stunning

Nice stay while studying at the university of Surrey, Pieter was very helpful and I enjoyed some nice evening meals in the gastrobistro downstairs. Room was quiet and beautiful location on the Common ideal for walks. In honesty, the decor could benefit from updating along with new pillows. But I would stay again. All staff very friendly and hospitable.

Comfy beds. Clean room, complimentary tea, coffee, doap & shampoo in shower. Clean towels. Veey helpful staff, especially when in the restaurant area. Close to a bus stop a few shops a short walk away. The National Trust Devils Punch bowl was right opposite hotel. Amazing views a must place to visit!

Whilst reception staff were friendly when checking in & cooked breakfast was nice, the rooms were in dire need of refurbishment - well the entire building is! The floors creaked to a point it made you feel awkward moving around for fear of people below, the windows were disguating, mould/rust & masking tape around glass. Marks all over room walls. Filthy carpets covered in stains. They charge for a breakfast buffet - but there is no cereal/fruit or pastries only a coffee/tea & water station. The cooked breakfast was nice & cooked to order, BUT when we asked for orange juice this came from the bar & although we’d paid for breakfast in our room rate, we then got charged £2.40 per glass of watered-down orange juice! Staff informed us this was to reduce costs… shocking service!

Some staff friendlier than others. Room was clean but needs TLC. Bed was comfortable. Some items of furniture broken. No toiletries in bathroom. Only handsoap. Breakfast very limited. Bad coffee and not much food.

Unfortunately the property is not suitable for disabled wheel chair users, with no rooms avaiable with wet rooms and grab rails etc. Not happy with the menu selections regarding vegetarian/vegan meals. Only 2 main meals available, in this catorgory, so if you stay for 3 or more nights you don't have any further choices. Breakfast choice is even worse, with no cereals, fruit juices or croissants etc. available.

Room was very dusty, very small amount of toilet paper in the bathroom, windows all rusty and paint worn off. Breakfast really expensive. £9 for 2 pieces of bread and a piece of bacon, the bread so hard, it couldnt all be eaten. Drinks very expensive and not even sure it was a full pint measure as no mark on glass and not an oversized glass. Staff were friendly enough and took a photo of us in our special t shirts. Hotel overall needs a good revamp.
