Beech Hill Hotel & Spa

The walls are very thin, you can hear everything in the rooms next door and passing through the corridor which woke me up during the night. The sauna in the spa was not working yet the full price was charged for use of the spa.

The property was lovely but in the middle renovations which we were not warned of when booking. We were informed on arrival that there is a £10 charge per person £20 on weekends for use of spa including the swimming pool which was very small and steam room, we are used to paying for treatments but swimming and sauna are usually included in our initial charge, it was not clear on booking that this is how it works. Breakfast was ok but not great with poor selection on both buffet and cooked breakfasts.

Nice hotel in a fantastic location. Great restaurant too. Not cheap so £20 pp extra to use the spa was a little steep. Rooms comfortable but a little old fashioned. Lots of stairs- could have done with a lift

Bed was comfortable ...dont think you should have to pay extra to use facilities (eg pool ,sauna .they are actually working on hotel right now so i think when its finished it will be lovely. Beautiful views overlooking lake Windermere

Overall the stay was good. You definitely pay for the view which is amazing from the rooms and spa. However, hotel is outdated and spa was faulty during our stay. Breakfast was also poor unless you pay additionally for the full English. Would recommend if you can get for £100 per night. Would be disappointed if paying more. Spa is an additional £20 per person - worth it if hot tubs are functional. No wifi in our room.

The Spa is extra. Twenty quid per person per visit extra. I was lured into this joint by the promise of the spa. I felt the price was high but the spa made it worth it. The Spa is extra. It is not worth it. The Free Wifi is in the lobby. Not the rooms. At some point in the mid 1980's this was probably a gem of a hotel, unfortunately it hasn't really seen much love since then. Don't be fooled by the nice photos of the lobby and dining room or the spa - they do look nice and aren't terrible but like any window dressing that's basically all they amount to. When we arrived we were booked into Room 77 which is on the main road in the "old" part of the hotel. The construction is terrible. You can hear everything everyone is saying in adjoining rooms. If someone slams a door your whole room reverberates. If someone jumps up and down next door the floor wobbles. It has a nice view of the lake - but every room does it seems as they all look out onto the lake more or less. We complained about the shoddy construction and fortunately they moved us to room number 6 which was much nicer and opened onto a grassy area which was home to a squadron of ducks all of whom seemed to have very strong opinions about when they should be fed. Down the grassy slope it is possible to go down to the beach and drink a beer in the evening air and watch the boats glide by. If you do elect to stay here request a room in the 1-20 range and you should be ok although that might require an upgrade.

We have stayed at the hotel a few times some things have changed the pool sauna jacuzzi ect is now payable as a extra but things change price to use quite high but the hotel is very picturesque great location great breakfast stunning views staff friendly as again we had a lovely time if snow is around looks amazing

Very nice hotel, quite a remote location - no buses pass here so bear that in mind. Didn't dine in, so can't comment on that, bar area was okay, looks nice, beer selection quite poor though. Nice terrace area overlooking the lake, lot of building work, diggers and general mess spoilt this view a bit though. Spa area was lovely, decent sized pool, two indoor hot tubs and two outdoor on a terrace overlooking a similar view. Such a shame though that this is charged as £10pp per 24 hours for guests - not sure I really agreed with that.

Great location and overall a lovely hotel. Gorgeous views of lake Windermere. The pool was under maintenance while we were there so they gave us complimentary spa use which was nice of them - although there were only two spa hot tubs which predictably got very busy as all the guests had complimentary spa use.

Hotel and rooms lovely, staff friendly and helpful. Car park was problem as hit a concrete dip that couldn’t be seen due to the stones. Car park uneven in many places.

stayed at this hotel before a few years ago and did enjoy it. Thie stay rooms were dirty, stains on the carpet, mouldy curtians, marks on the wall, stains on the mattress, light's shades broke and this place is not cheap, also we had to pay extra for spa which last time it was in within the price of room cost and also last time we had cooked breakfast available within the price this time it was extra for cooked only continental available lovely location, hotel over priced for the condition

This hotel is clutching at straws with its 4 star rating - it has a low 3 star/guest house vibe. It’s in need of significant investment and an upgrade to its service and standards. There was a mould/damp patch in our room, and a huge one above the staircase, the carpets in communal areas need a deep clean and doors/paint and windows all need looking at. The hotel is in a great location (fantastic views) and the staff were accommodating and helpful, but the quality of food, room amenities and general facilities let this hotel down. The photos on the site are misleading for standard/classic rooms, and it states breakfast is included - after booking, this stated continental breakfast only and you would need to pay more for a cooked breakfast (again, something you don’t expect at a 4 star hotel - either include it, or don’t. The continental also left a lot to be desired - fruit juices were warm, a few bits of cheese amongst the usual breads etc.

Hi all the property is very run down both inside and outside the room was unsafe as the bathroom light switch was tripping out when in use loose connection in wall when you shut bathroom door vibration made light go off so had to keep tapping switch on wall veru unsafe bed wasnt fit for skip all springs sticking in your back felt awful in morning curtains were dirty hanging down broken hucks cobwebs patio furniture broken broken umberellers on bar patio area all paint cuming off walls just a mess realy wouldn't recommend

Room was very clean and decent size. Toilet felt like it was new thats how clean it was. View was amazing from the room!! got a view of the whole lake. Parking outside was a bit tricky as it was next to a road where people drive fairly fast on. Interior was lovely the reception and outdoor patio is good size and felt relaxing. fairly quiet apart from one night with loud guests. didnt go spa but feel it should be included as part of hotel, given we already paid a lot for the hotel. fairly expensive when booking last minute. very close to other towns in lake district otherwise, easy to get to them by car.

Rooms very clean and warm,staff very helpful, there is a bit of room updates and refreshing around the hotel but only carried out during normal working hours, overall 10 out of 10

We requested to move rooms as our original one was filthy-dirt and stains all along the window sills and tops of radiators/the lid of the bin in the bathroom was filthy/shower screen had greasy finger marks on it, the windows were so dirty they spoilt the stunning lake view and there were cobwebs hanging from the cornice over the bed. We were moved and upgraded, staff admitted they were short staffed and awaiting a new manager of housekeeping. At breakfast as we entered the dining room, three pieces of cheese had been dropped on the carpet in the middle of the walkway and staff simply ignored it, and walked around it!!

The location is stunning as is the view. The staff are first class and tremendously welcoming and helpful. The spa day was absolutely amazing, great facilities and wonderful staff; we were well chilled for the rest of the day. Two items let the experience down is the lack of ventilation in the room which made for hot and sticky sleeping. The room was not clean. There was stains in the carpet, mould in the bathroom tiles, dirty in the corners and behind the toiled and an absolutely filthy fan with an enormous volume of dust.

Arrived at Check-in to be told the room wasn’t ready. Waited an hour for our room to be ready. The receptionist offered us complimentary drinks but this wasn’t the best start to our trip. Eventually got access to our room (24) but we noticed there was a damp aroma in the room. We found to our surprise a large amount of black mould on the curtains for the patio doors. It was definitely apparent that this had been like this for a lengthy amount of time. We also noticed there was a large amount of thick dust on the skirtings and around the edges of the room. This was not ideal especially as my wife is pregnant and asthmatic. The room itself was very basic including the bathroom. We slept OK but the room was very stuffy even with the windows left open during the night. The next morning at breakfast (8:30am) we had to wait 10 minutes before someone would show us our seats to our table. The continental breakfast was also very poor. The breakfast juices, pastries, fruit salad were taken, the milk had gone sour (the staff did eventually replace this). This was the last straw and we decided to leave the hotel and ask for a refund for the 2 remaining days. The receptionist did offer us another room but our experience was ruined with everything that has happened. For a supposedly 4-Star hotel, the standards are shocking! For the steel price the hotel is charging per night we were really disappointed with the experience. We will not return or recommend to others.

Our stay was overall very good, the spa is nice however one hot tub was not working, our room was abit dated with mold in the corner, aswell as this there is mold on the landing on the first floor, the hotel is nice but could do with a makeover

The Windermere Suite is excellent and spacious, not to mention its own private terrace and hot tub. The staff were extremely friendly and provided excellent service. Compliments to the kitchen, the food was first class throughout our stay. We were fortunate enough to have a hot stone spa during our stay aswell which was superb. We will definitely be returning again.

The hotel itself is great, with the dining area being beautiful & view great. You are paying for the view. The room was nice but for some unknown reason they put heating on at the height of summer. The window only opens less then a crack. Whist we did get provided with a fan the room was still red hot & as a result i was far too hot all night to sleep. We personally wouldn't stay again for that reason

You can hear everything going on in the rooms next to you when they get up go to the toilet, walking around the floors are creeking and other things that I won’t say so I couldn’t get a good sleep.

It was unusually hot for the UK and there was no air-conditioning, so we had 2 quite uncomfortable nights sleep. Otherwise, it had a superb balcony with an excellent view of the lake.

The Windermere suite was lovely but all night was noisy with some kind of water pump making noise

This hotel is tired in places, but the location and views are amazing. The beds and pillows quite important are of poor quality and uncomfortable my rating would have been higher if the bed had been more comfortable. Tha bathroom light switch was very dodgy but the bathrooms had been renovated. The hairdryer sounded like it was not working. I enjoyed my stay my advice would be upgrade the beds and bedding.

Really nice hotel, spa was nice. The suites could use some upgrades (the windows) there was water between the glass panels so the view couldn’t be enjoyed as much as it should have been. Especially when the heat was on full as it was -3 and it was just cloudy window panes.

The setting was lovely but Hotel rooms need updating No Wi-Fi available in either of the 2 rooms we were in or in the bar and restaurant areas

We booked on Expedia and when enjoying our day; we were called by Beech Hill and told Expedia overbooked the room. Yes, they didn't have the room we booked and they would be willing to give us a cheaper room for the same price as the better room. I had to agrue with them over the phone and they finally agreed that we could come see the cheaper room and if we liked it, they would not return our money but give us a credit towards items at the hotel. We knew it was now late in the day and we agreed. So we arrived at 5:46 PM to find the room in terrible condition with wallpaper torn off in sections around the room, wet towels on the floor, large wet or stains on the carpet, mold in the bathroom, greasy substance on the door knob and a musty smell. We asked why the room was unclean and they ssid they were having issues. Other customers were also complaining of waiting hours for a clean room and towels. We told them we were cancelling our booking and they told us Expedia would have to deal with it. I spoke to Expedia and they tried to call them multiple times with no response. So, now I have to wait for a further investigation before I'm refunded my £377.90

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the views are stunning. The food in both bars was to die for. Definitely going back again.

This is what I believe to be a fair review of our stay. We arrived just before 4pm - the stated check-in time - to find that our room had not been made up on time, which it later emerged was due to a low staffing issue. After numerous incidents of being told it would only be 20 more minutes, we were able to access an alternative room in order to shower and freshen up, and we went out for dinner, assuming that by the time we returned our room would be ready. Sadly, it wasn’t, and we were almost at the point where we were looking for somewhere else when we were handed the room key at 8pm. However, despite this nightmare of an arrival evening, the manager and staff were hugely apologetic and accommodating to us - we received a free cooked breakfast for each day of our stay, free use of the spa and a free evening meal for the next night - my wife’s birthday. The manager and staff going the extra mile like that ensured that her birthday was actually great, despite our fears from the first night. The food was very good, and the spa, especially the outside areas, was excellent. The hotel is second to none in terms of location, with superb Lake views without the hustle and bustle of nearby Bowness. The room could use some sprucing up, though, with stains on the carpets and marks on the walls. With a bit of a sprucing up and addressing the staffing issues, this could be the best hotel in the area. A special mention goes to Jacob, who was extremely accommodating when manning the bar.

Stayed on 4/09/23 for one night. Reception staff were uninterested and on the three interactions with the same staff member, when she eventually engaged with us, she went into the back office and chatted to her colleague, clearly unrelated to our requests. Room had dust in the head board, light on the vanity mirror only partially worked and the fan in the bathroom did not work. Only two tea bags were provided along with two milk cartons, when more were requested another two were “reluctantly” provided. No internet in the room, an extra £20 pp to use the pool for and a surcharge for a cooked breakfast all seemed very last century. Although an incredibly attractive Edwardian pile both inside and out basic lack of cleanliness detracted from its attraction. This included litter on the terrace and and communal areas that clearly hadn’t been vacuumed. So disappointing as all the issues were easy fixes.

Loved our stay! The staff were so accommodating with last minute changes that needed to be made. Everyone was really friendly and hospitable. Also great views from the room, spa, and bar/restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay! Thanks to the whole team 🙏

I was impressed by all of the staff within the hotel, even when I asked if they could organise hiring a tuxedo for the evening they were able to arrange everything... Also I'm so surprised with the beautiful smells in the room/shower/ carpet was so clean like i have no enough word to describe this hotel. It’s a lovely lovely hotel.

The hotel is located on the main road into Windermere and has its own parking. Check in was fast and the receptionist was very helpful. I was a little disappointed as I didn’t realise that access to the pool with kids is only between 9am - 1pm so we had to move our plans around and take the kids the following morning. The room was fantastic, it was spotless and very spacious. It was nice and warm and included all the necessary essentials to make it a comfortable stay. The leisure centre is impeccably maintained and the kids really enjoyed themselves. Would highly recommend this hotel and would be happy to use again in the future.

I enjoyed, the stay and the reception and spa staff where very efficient to any needs I had, however unfortunately the same can't be said for the service of the staff in the restaurant. I felt they where not very attentive when it came to dealing with requests, for example asking for things that they said they would bring to the table then them not following this through. Overall though the rest of the expirience was pleasent and enjoyable, could do with improvements in that area, however, would defo recommend the place.

Fantastic views and room, restaurant and bar all good. Nowhere to walk on foot from the hotel as no pavement in any direction. Property looking very slightly past its best and has lots of stairs with no lift so anyone with limited mobility may want to look elsewhere, that said staff were good and food including continental breakfast were great

The property is on a busy 50mph road which is not obvious when reviewing our stay so difficult to walk anywhere in the area of the hotel. The bathroom could do with some grout cleaning. The room was spacious but could do with vaccuming under the bed. Other than the above small issues, the stay was lovely. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant food was great. The SPA facility was clean and provided everything we expected for the stay. Good value for money and we would return in the future.

Based in a scenic area, this property has amazing views of lake Windermere! Staff are friendly and kind. Hotel is clean. Rooms are spacious and kitted out well (hairdryer, tea/coffee, towels etc.) highly recommend.

Excellent location for a trip to bowness. Warm and friendly welcome from the staff who all went above and beyond. The view of the lake from our room was incredible.

The hotel was easy to find, being on the main road to Bowness, it was well signposted but still keep an eye out as it comes upon you quickly. There is plenty of parking on the front but more convenient a large carpark behind. There is a lot of work upgrading the outside infront of rooms that should be lovely. Inside the hotel reception is in the older part but has very nice seating a bar and restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room had a large kingside bed, a flat screen TV, plenty of draws, wardrobe and dressing table, the bathroom was of good size with shower over the bath although the shower screen had the rubber bit missing of the bottom so you have to be careful not to get water all over, also the towel rail was on ALL the time so very hot as was the radiator in the room, it was cold outside and having a warm room was welcome but it was just too hot whilst sleeping. We didn't eat at the restaurant so could not coment, but the breakfast was very nice with plentiful continental offerings and the full English was also very nice. We didn't use the spa facilities either. Overall a lovely 2 night stay

Our stay was amazing. We booked for the view of the lake and they had certainly made the very most of that with huge picture windows and lovely grass down to the waters edge. Cleanliness overall was very good there was dust here and there but the bedding and linen the restaurant and the lounge furniture was clean. The food was amazing and the staff friendly and attentive. The room was a good size but due to requiring the best view we did have four flights of stairs. This was worth it to us but would not be suitable for anyone not able to climb stairs regularly. There are rooms with less stairs but we have no idea how good the views are from them . We would return in a heartbeat .

An ideal location for an off season break, excellent location and very reccomended

Overall: great stay. (Room a bit "tired/dated". Gardens lovely but shame tosee litter/beer cans tossed down there). Very good Spa facilities. And compliments to the Chef: dinner was amazing quality/taste and value for money (better than some Michelin starred restaurants that we've tasted).

Great overnight stay , fantastic views from room , lovely meal on Tuesday , great breakfast on Wednesday - set us up for the day .

Arrived to the hotel an hour early and was checked in straight away to be accommodated by our very clean and spacious room with a great view. Then got booked into the spa which was also very good and clean. We then went to the bar were there was a very friendly young man serving who did a great job. It all went downhill when we went for breakfast and the tables were all dirty left with previous peoples plates and food scattered all over… no cups or mugs to have a hot/cold beverage (no fresh juice left anyway) no option of fruit was left just a couple dry croissants. Overall good stay but was massively let down with the breakfast!

There is a £20 per person charge for daily use of the spa area and swimming pool which is restricted to a pre booked time slot of 2 hours which means to use it is an expensive add on plus restricts your day in the lakes . Further more the hotels breakfast included in the daily rate is a fairly poor example with little choice of a so called continental breakfast and should you wish to have a cooked breakfast their is a £14 plus extra charge . On talking to the staff all of whom we came in to contact with where very pleasant and obliging said the hotel was in the process of being sold which partly explains the poor upkeep of the grounds compared to previous visits . Unfortunately after several visits in the past we are unlikely to return until things change due to their house policies shame as we used to like the hotel

Nice hotel with amazing views of the lake. Room was comfortable and also had a good view. Staff didn't seem to notice when food was running low and did not check regularly. The food at the bar was very good and staff seemed more in control. Overall I enjoyed my trip with the view being the highlight.
