Very good quality hotel with free onsite parking

Second stay - everything as excellent as the first. Olde world charm from the outside, modern comfort inside. Great location, their own live music venue under the hotel, good choice of other local pubs and restaurants on the doorstep and the Beartown brewery was well worth a 15 minute walk

The lack of lifts and the layout of the rooms is very inconvenient and confusing. My fault for not checking but there is no AC which made for a warm room. However the staff was very accommodating and breakfast was nice.

Sat nav had us chasing our tails, so try to know exactly where the hotel is! The facade is spectacular, built in the 1600s, the restaurant is wonderful, breakfast is included (and lots of choices), the beds were superb, the staff couldn’t do enough for us, including taking our bags to and from our room. The only negative, for us, was that we needed a twin room, and there were (at least available, can’t say if any exist) none on the ground floor. We both have bad knees, so up a “full” flight of stairs, then down some, then up 3, then down another few, then up a few more (or some variation of those-I lost count!) was challenging. But if stairs are not an issue for you, by all means stay there. You won’t regret it.

Nothing to fault. Bright, modern with a nod to the buildings history throughout. Big comfy bed, excellent WiFi. Friendly staff & the room itself was immaculate with a good quality mattress & premium toiletries. Free parking, middle of town, couldn't recommend more

Upside: This hotel is great. Really smart, clean and up market. Some very nice touches. Staff are very good and friendly. Rooms are very cool. Bathrooms are great. Downside: Parking is a little to get into as the entrance is narrow. Anything bigger than a 4 series BMW you will struggle to get in. But car park is safe and plenty of parking. There was no one on reception and there was a bit of a queue to checkin. Also the wifi was not working. I had to use the guest hotel wifi which needed facebook or twitter to login. This did not work on my work devices so I had to use my data which was ok but slow.

Anyone with dodgy knees should take care when staying at this hotel. There are a LOT of stairs involved in getting to some of the bedrooms and I didn't find any flat routes even to the rooms the far side of the car park archway. I would ask for a much closer room if I had known in advance. Otherwise, we had a pleasant stay

One night stay mid week while working in the area. Very nice rooms, comfy bed, Nespresso coffee machine, internet ok speeds, large car park. Could hear the music from the bar in my room till about 11pm so not too bad, but a little annoying.

Nice centre of town accommodation. First impressions were very good. Friendly staff. We were in room 8 and the room looked directly down the high street. So lots of traffic and close to numerous public houses. Ear plugs were supplied by the hotel, but we dudnt feel the need to use them. We hesrd lots of public noise but that was only to be expected and didnt disturb our sleep.. The room on first impressions was warm and welcoming. Small fridge contained complimentary fresh milk & carraff of water. Only thing I found to pick at was the cleanliness of the bathroom. The bathroom its self was amazing, it just needed cleaning properly. There were dirty marks on the door, substance unknown. The panels of the door were covered in dust. Small cobwebs from the ceiling. The heated towel rail was thick with dust as was the head of the waterfall shower head. Breakfast was lovely . All fresh and good quality and served by friendly staff. Would I stay there again? YES.

We had a bit of trouble finding anyone when we arrived so stood like lemons at the bar for ages waiting for someone. At breakfast there was one poor person trying to do everything and the only tables free had dirty dishes on from the previous guests. The evening meal in the bar area was fairly nice but not amazing. My pie was lukewarm rather than hot but the vegetables were really nicely cooked. The taster menu in the restaurant at the back was really good and nice that you could take your own drinks. The room we had was beautiful and felt really luxurious but it was a shame there was a really strong smell of drains! We mentioned it and was told the drains had been clogged so they had recently cleared them and the smell was gradually going but it did linger for the whole of our stay. The street outside was quite noisy when the windows were open but it was really quiet once we shut them at night. The beds were very very comfortable and we slept really well. The location is great for visiting the potteries, Trentham Gardens, Jodrell Bank.... so there is plenty to do in the area

Our room was absolutely lovely! We booked a standard room and it was beautiful with wooden beams. The shower was great and the bathroom was spotless. We really enjoyed breakfast and all the staff were really lovely. We would love to stay here again!

This property is very welcoming. Beautiful furnishings and rooms. Extremely neat, clean and tidy. This is not like any ordinary English pub. Staff very friendly and breakfast was great. We were very pleasantly surprised by this venue.

Disappointed is an understatement from our arrival reception was empty eventually some came checked us in and said breakfast is in the front of the building from 9am. No mention of evening meal times and availability. The room was very nice apart from the smell of sewage in the bathroom. We went down for breakfast was asked if we wanted tea or coffee and of she went to get us it no mention of the continental buffet juices etc she returned with our drinks and then disappeared for 20 minutes we had to go and ask another member of staff if we could order breakfast really need to sort out staff training really gone down hill.

Great room. Good breakfast, bacon and sausage very tasty and good quality. Lot of bars and restaurants in the area.

A lovely quirky property with a number of dining options. Rooms clean, spacious with modern bathrooms, excellent showers and big TV's!

Great parking. Rooms in the main building are clean, spacious and very comfy beds. No air con but they have fans available to use.

Overall a really nice place to stay, it’s a bit of a maze getting to the rooms, could be because I was tired. The Rio Was lovely, as was breakfast but the coffee machine find t work properly (nightmare for me) and the hairdryer with really poor. May seem insignificant to some but important to me.

Negatives: The key card would not work on my room. They provided me either a key in the end. The room was very stuffy. It needs airing more regularly. It was a room over the bar and so it was noisy. They provided earplugs in the room...so that was a bit of a clue! The cooked breakfast was lukewarm. Positives: The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was good.

Lovely hotel. Stayed in a luxury room; fitted the description. Well appointed room, modern, comfortable, large bathroom with his & hers sinks, and open walk in shower. Exceptionally comfortable bed. Breakfast was absolutely perfection. Excellent hotel, would definitely return if I was in the area.

Nice room and well presented we had velux windows and therefore couldn’t see outside. We were in room 1 right by stairs so there is more noise with people coming up the stairs. In terms of service every member of staff was doing 2 or 3 jobs everytime we saw them, they were all trying very hard but there really wasn’t enough of them to man all ovations as necessary from reception to bar to restaurant we were served by same person.

Great staff, warm welcome and excellent service. Hotel is lovely with lots of character. Good facilities, tea/coffe machine, fridge, tv, geat powerful shower, clean and tidy and free wifi. Would have been a 5 star if it wasn't for the noise!! I stayed on a saturday night and the hotel is surrounded by bars. Be warned the area was very busy until the early hours, so you can imagine the noise. There was secondary glazing, which kept some the noise out, but still too noisey. Also a lot of noise from the hotel bar below. Unfortunately not much sleep had. I guess if your up all night on the town then you probably wont care , but if your after a quieter time then a week day would probably be best.

Just a brief overnight on a business trip. Lovely character building. Decent size free car park. Single room was pleasant and comfortable. Location is in the town, so inevitably some traffic noise specially early morning. Take earplugs if that tends to disturb you. Very friendly staff and good breakfast available from 7am, which was handy as I was travelling further on for a meeting. Highly competitive b&b rate.

We had a two day stay, first morning at breakfast had to ask for sugar, orange juice was coloured water & wasn’t asked if we wanted toast (later found out toaster was provided). Today second day all tables had been used but not cleared & we had a 45 minute wait to be asked what we wanted for breakfast. No sugar on table had to take off other table, no salt in container on table had to take off other table, only apple juice was provided no other option. More staff was needed for the breakfast time. The meal itself was very nice.

On arrival nobody on reception, but Hotel busy doing Sunday Lunch. When we found somebody we were shown to our room, which we were not keen on, as no window, just skylight. So we were shown 2 other rooms and chose room 3. Exceptionally clean. Asked about food for an evening meal, but nothing was made clear as to what we could get to eat or when, just told plenty of places to eat out and about. Nobody about next morning at breakfast had to search again for staff,definitely a lack of staff. No orange juice had to ask for some, this happened on 2 occasions. Breakfast ok. Key stopped working, found somebody to re set it,still did not work, so cleaner offered to get it sorted. Cleaners were exceptional. Very efficient and polite. After staying for 4 nights, we checked out, but nobody asked us at anytime about our stay. Nobody was interested, we requested a telephone number as we left, in case there was a problem with the car parking, as the gentleman that did it for us said, if we got a problem, when we got home to ring, but we were told to ring the number on the website, when I explained that we tried that to book the hotel and we had no option to speak with anybody, just book online. Only small niggles, but for the price of our stay, would have liked to have felt a bit like a valued Customer and had anybody asked us about our stay, we could have given them the chance to respond, instead of having to write this review.

Room was absolutely fine for a 2 night business trip. Breakfast day one... service excellent and quick. Breakfast day two.... so slow.. 30mins for a pot of tea, 40 mins for the omelette. Different person each day - one who knew what she was doing, the other sadly didn't. Number of customers the same each day.

Had a wkend stay didnt start to good on the fri evening but mangers matt & luke put it all good so 10/10 for there prompt service by putting it all right so a big big thank you will definitely visit again. 👍

We arrived in the evening. The staff were very pleasant and we had a lovely meal in the adjoining restaurant. However, we paid for a late check-out and were told we could have the room until 2pm. We confirmed the 2pm check-out at reception. But at midday, two members of staff came into the room while my wife was in bed talking to an important client and demanded we leave immediately. There had clearly been a mix-up when we were told 2pm, which is fine. These thing happen. What we didn’t appreciate was how it was handled by the two members of staff who came to our room. They demanded we leave like we were vagrants on a park bench. It’s a shame, because we’d had a lovely stay and had planned to visit the hotel for what are regular visits to Congleton.

Hotel was gorgeous , room was very spacious and clean. However service on both morning for breakfast was very slow waiting over 45 mins for our food (wasn’t busy either) on the 2nd day there was no fruit juice available or any continental food out to eat whilst waiting for our cooked breakfast. Food when it did arrive was lovely

The staff were all amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. The room had some nice touches like an electric fan which we needed due to the heat. We had all the windows open but still needed the fan. Nespresso machine didn't work, which was disappointing. The bed was too soft and moved every time anyone rolled over. The bathroom floor tiles were absolutely lethal when wet. I did the splits and was only saved by the wall and the toilet. By the time I arrived home I realised that I'd strained my lower back in my efforts not to fall. There is a small notice in the bathroom (in a decorative font which is too small to see without reading glasses - and at the end of a long list of items they can supply if you've forgotten them such as toothbrush, toothpaste, sewing kit, shoe polish) which says you can ring reception for a non-slip shower mat. My heartfelt suggestions are to make it clear in a large font notice that the whole floor is slippery when wet (no door or curtain on the shower so the water flies everywhere (including on the toilet roll and spare as the toilet is less that two feet from the shower) and provide the non slip mat in the bathroom for guests to use. We recently stayed in a hotel in Cornwall which did that, and it was very useful for both of us, not just the disabled guest. Sadly, we both found hair in our food too; one dark one of a couple of inches long in my daughter's evening meal last night and a short, grey curly one in my breakfast this morning.

Stay was okay, we went down for our meal to the restaurant and had the shared starter which was good we then had the roast chicken meal, Yorkshire pudding was burnt and the chicken was not too good either, and pizza did not have any tomato base so it was like eating cardboard give the hotel their due they did not charge us for our main meal breakfast was very good and service was good

Lovely hotel, great staff. Beautiful building inside and out. Shame we couldn't get anything to eat after 8.00pm (we hadn't booked) would definitely stay again

Fantastic. Sunday lunch was wow. Couldn’t eat it all the beef was super.
