Lafayette Hotel Marietta

I understand this is a very old building, but it needs a deep clean and paint. We were in the annex built in 1939. There were big pieces of paint peeling off the walls. The corners and baseboards were filthy and needed painting. Mattress was spongy and uncomfortable. Bathroom smelled like urine, the caulk around the base of the toilet looked to be the culprit. There were bugs of some sort crawling around on the ceiling and wall, they were coming out of the ceiling fan. The room had a funky smell but we realized the second day we could open the window and get some fresh air. Our room faced the river and it was nice to watch the barges go past. Air conditioner wasn't too loud. Parking was across the street along the river, fairly convenient and free. The staff was friendly and the food in the gun room was good. They have free breakfast during the week, order off the menu which was very nice. Elevator is tiny and dirty. The way the hotel is laid out the rooms in the annex are a pretty long walk from the elevator. Water pressure in the shower was good.

No refrigerator in the room.

The Lafayette is a very cool hotel. The girl Victoria that we spoke with at check-in was amazing. And the bright young lady that runs the Starbucks in the hotel was incredibly nice. We did have to use the service elevator due to their main elevator being down on our stay, but again, Victoria was amazing and a great host. However, after She got off of her shift, we never saw another person at the front desk. We tried to call down there and nobody would answer. We even tried to order from the restaurant one night and couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone. all of the carpets in the hotel and especially around the bathroom door in our room or trip hazards. The carpets are absolutely filthy and need to be cleaned and rest stretched. When you’re walking down the hallways, you can see where “something” has chewed holes in the drop in ceilings in the corners. And it’s just those minor attention to detail that can really make people not want to stay there. The curtain dressings are super cute in the rooms, but they do not block out any light whatsoever. So it’s very hard to get a peaceful sleep. Even with the hotel being basically empty, they put people in the room right next-door to us. Which I thought was pretty crappy because who wants to stay in a hotel and listen to somebody else all night. As I said, the hotel is a beautiful place and they have done a great job preserving the history, but they could do a better job with customer service and providing a safer environment.

The Lafayette is by far one of our favorite places. The staff is amazing. It’s quiet with beautiful views. There are 2 restaurants within the building and a Starbucks. It has one elevator but we’ve never had to wait long. Our kids love the historic aspect of it. With 4 of us taking showers we never ran out of hot water. Mattresses are firm.

Needs more parking

The Lafayette is a historical hotel with all the charm of a 1800s river boat hotel, the staff was very helpful and the location is great if you wish to explore downtown Marietta. However, some of the modern conveniences are absent such as central air, microwaves and refrigerators in the room. It was explained to me the electrical infrastructure was not able to handle it. Personally it didn't matter to me as the location was perfect for me.

Great stay. The only downside was the main elevator was down and the scary service elevator was the only option, run by hotel staff. However, the staff was friendly and easy to reach, so really not much waiting. The service elevator looked like something from the ‘20s. Lots of shaking groaning and rocking, but it got us to the 5 th floor and back down the next morning. This will not keep us from staying next time, even if we knew the elevator was out, which is unlikely. The bar is great, breakfast is great.

Wish they had a small fridge in the room. Loved the rooftop deck improvements. They keep this such a secret!

Charming historic hotel right on the water, walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants. Breakfast included during the weekdays, very nice! Pet friendly is a plus! Very accommodating staff. 2nd stay and would choose it again when traveling north/south.

The Lafayette is a unique and historic hotel located on the riverfront of the Ohio River. The hotel itself has a nice bar, a good restaurant for breakfast, and a coffee counter. The hotel is a short (walkable) distance from a variety of small shops, a cafe, a Walgreens, and some restaurants. I enjoyed being able to walk across the street to sit and watch the barges passing by on the river.

It is an old historical hotel. The carpet felt dirty. The easy chair in my room was wet. Too much furniture made the already small room feel even smaller.

This historical building is lovely. Our room was spacious w a sitting area and 2 bathrooms. Very very cool. Overall cleaniness was good. Wallpaper was pealing off the walls. There were stains on the chairs, but linens were crisp and clean. Window AC units and ceiling fans. This was fine for our Oct stay, not sure how it would be in July or August. Lobby was pretty, but there was an odd odor and carpet could use a good cleaning. All in all a good place to stay. Close to everything. Wlka le to bars and restaurants and quaint downtown shops.

Upon entering the hotel, we were immediately struck by a strong musty odor and an uncomfortable feeling of humidity. Unfortunately, our room was no different. As we opened the door, we were greeted by the same heavy air and unpleasant smell—not exactly the welcome one hopes for in a hotel. The air conditioning had been turned off, leaving the room hot and damp. It quickly became clear where the odor was coming from: a large patch of mold growing on the wall behind the desk. We understand this is an older property and didn’t expect all the latest upgrades. However, in this day and age, proper temperature and humidity control should be a basic standard to ensure both comfort and safety for guests. The presence of mold is simply unacceptable.

I knew the property was old and was expecting old charm. However, I was disappointed because they do not seem to keep up with cleaning and there was a musty odor through the property. The room was small and the chair and bed were uncomfortable. Only spent one night so it was ok. The location is awesome right on the river with restaurants and shopping all around.

Loved staying in the old place. Your room and bathroom will be small. Our room was musty, like it had been closed up. Every window in the lobby and room was filthy, carpet felt grubby, but furnishings, sheets and towels were super clean

I was eager to stay at the Lafayette. I know this an old hotel. So much character! Having stayed in old hotels before I allow for a curve. Was happy to learn we could check in early. Front desk said no one had been in the room the night before. Clearly no one had stayed in the room for several days as there was a layer of dust on the drinking glasses. There were dust webs hanging from the ceiling. A 3 foot section of the wallpaper had pulled away from the wall. Old, I understand. Dirty? There is no excuse. Getting into bed I was surprised to see the sheets were ripped. As it was late, I did not contact the front desk. I only wanted to get to sleep and check out. There is so much potential for the Hotel Lafayette. I hope updates can be made and future travelers will have clean rooms. I will not be back.

The queen bed room we got was tiny, maybe about 12’x12’ with a tiny bathroom, which the door interfered with the room door if you kept it open. The shower room was tiny and my husband couldn’t reach his arms. We could hear some conversation from the next room that could be a connecting room if we didn’t turn on the window AC. The carpet looked like it wasn’t shampooed for years. The coffee shop downstairs wasn’t even open when we checked out at 7. If it wasn’t for our dog, we would have stayed at the fancy boutique hotel nearby. The pictures on the official websites and other hotel websites are misleading. Very disappointed. It looked like a cute little town though.

It is an old historical motel so we accepted the musty smell. The food in both the restaurants in the hotel was very good. and all the staff we dealtwith were friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

The room was VERY SMALL and the bathroom was incredibly small. The small basin was right in the way of the toilet. You had to shift your body past the sink to get to the seat! They had too much big furniture in the room and we could barely turn around. The AC was in the window - not in the wall as depicted here. The hotel itself was lovely - but our room was just too small. The bed mattress was lumpy and very uncomfortable.

Great (fun)location. Old hotel with full service. Little things, which should be relatively easy to fix e.g. bedside lamp didnt work, TV wouldnt get local channels (as listed on in room guide), wi fi was weak to not available in room, a few small ants on bathroom floor.

Last September we enjoyed staying in a Riverview room. This year we stayed in August in a street facing room. The traffic noise was terrible. It was difficult to sleep.

Historic hotel with charm. Right on the main drag (be prepared for lots of car and motorcycle noise if your room faces Main St). Close to shopping, coffee, brewery, river, etc. We stayed in Room 206. Plenty of space but be prepared to move furniture to get to the outlets. Weird set up with a 2nd sink in a "bar" area in the room, but no refrigerator. Never really saw much of the staff at the front desk. Most of the time it was empty. Happy to find a small Starbucks cafe there. The barista in the cafe was super nice. Overall, you can't beat the location. Just be prepared for a truly historic hotel that doesn't appear to have had much attention paid to it in recent years.

Property, including rooms, is VERY dated. Walls are paper-thin so you can easily hear others in rooms next to you. Street in front of hotel is VERY noisy at night. Rooms only have cheap blinds with no curtains so rooms are very bright at night. Bathroom is extremely small. Restaurants nearby were quite good and walkability of the area is convenient.

A very cool historic hotel. Clean. Great food. Excellent service. In fact, another out of town friend just stayed there three weeks ago and they loved it. My concerns are specific to Room 511 ( King Suite ). The internet connection was bad. I was disconnected around 20 times, and the signal was weak. The drain in the sink & tub were s-l-o-w. No refrigerator or microwave. Other that, it was a good experience.

I have mixed feelings about the Lafayette. As others have said, it's in a perfect location along the river. Restaurants and shops are very walkable. I loved the beautiful historic building. However, the room and bathroom were both extremely small. There was no refrigerator or microwave. There was a lot of street noise which the loud fan from the window air conditioner couldn't drown out. The window blinds didn't block out the light. There was something literally sticking up from the floor which was covered by the carpet - high enough that it was a trip hazard. The breakfast was delicious - it's in the restaurant and it's cooked to order (not a buffet). But make sure you know which items to order - I was confused and ended up paying for breakfast. They give you a breakfast ticket at check-in but evidently there is only one free option (maybe?), but it wasn't completely clear to me. I liked the hotel for its historic charm and location, but there were a few things lacking.

It’s nice they have ice and give you a couple water bottles, but it lacks amenities like a refrigerator. The dining options are terrible as I had to wait over 10 min for service at the Gun room restaurant and Starbucks.

I made a mistake and booked for thursday night not wednesday night front desk lady one just brushed me off and said we are full you dont have a reservation. so i went to the parking lot and booked a room online for that night went back in and she was not really happy. front desk lady number 2 called me later and told me why i was not booked for wednesday and apologized that I had not been helped better by first lady. Our conference people were upset that no space was set aside for vender tables. the electric went out during breakfast the waffles were cold and water and coffee were only drink options set out during the day

Check in staff less than friendly. Didn’t feel like I could ask questions about hotel or local area. Bar staff for Saturday night was great! Now the bed must have come with the hotel. Way too soft with soft pillows. The tub and sink took forever to drain. Can’t say I would stay again.

At the onset, I was worried. The front desk didn't have coverage at check-in. Waited 30 mins before finding someone in the bar to find the needed staff. That was the only downside. The hotel is old, historic, well maintained and elegant. The staff was excellent in all areas. The breakfast was made to order and excellent. The bar was excellent. The room was extremely clean and temperature control was easy. Ive been to Marietta many times. This was my first stay at this grand hotel but it won't be the last. So much better than a chain hotel.

Loved staying at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta OH. Everything about it was great except for dinner Sunday night at hotel restaurant. Had a bad experience with being seated and about 45 minutes of not being approached we left. Had this not happened I would have given our experience 5 stars for our stay. Definitely will go back again.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room was clean. Wonderful old hotel. Will definitely stay again when we return.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Lafayette. Such welcoming staff and a really nice historical hotel. Clean and tidy, and a great breakfast. Would definitely return.

This hotel had lots of character and charm. Located in a beautiful area and within walking distance of may attractions/ restaurants.

The hotel was right in the water and had period decor. The bathroom was a lot smaller than I was expecting. There were many fun shops a walkable distance from the hotel. We parked at the hotel and walked all around Marietta. It was a fun experience.

The location and history provided can't be beat. The hotel alone was filled with pictures and information. The older phones even provided an audio history. The rooms were put together well and were comfortable. The restaurant and bar were very nice. Brooke was a great help with dinner suggestions. The common bathrooms however need a good scrub. Carpets are difficult to keep clean I'm sure but they also need shampooed so that people don't think the rooms will be dirty. Overall, nice stay.

The hotel was wonderful. Old school feel and charm. The food in the restaurant was disappointing. From the long wait after ordering to the overall quality it was not what we expected for the cost. The wait staff were friendly and professional and did a great job but reading between the lines we knew they are aware of the poor quality meals being served. Will definitely stay again but will be dining at one of the local area restaurants.

I chose the Lafayette because I wanted a hotel with ambiance instead of a bland chain hotel. The location was fantastic, close to the river and parks. There was dedicated parking for guests adjacent to the hotel. Breakfast was not included. My room had a view of the river, which was a nice surprise. There were 2 twin beds in the room, an antique desk, and a modern TV. The bathroom was adequate. Some noise could be heard during the night, but the air-conditioner usually drowned out all other noise. While the location couldn’t be beat, I probably would stay in a chain hotel the next time I’m in town.

Excellent location on the river and close to downtown. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are quaint and the bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. Highly recommend the king room with a river view. The included breakfast was good.

Kitchen closed at 9 pm but there are options nearby. Ceiling fan didn’t work but A/C did very well on a very hot night. Much history in Marietta.

Purchased the buffet breakfast on Sunday morning and it was the same foods you would get the free breakfast during the week and everything was cold, next time we will defiantly skip that.

Fantastic, historic hotel in a charming part of the city. The gun room in the hotel is a great choice for breakfast, we didn’t get a chance to try the bar and grill but it had a great look to it and seemed busy most nights.
