Motel 6-Saint Joseph, MO

Place should be torn down. Cracked floor tiles and sagging in rooms, outside stairs felt unsafe, sheets and blankets were stained. No refrigerator or microwave like advertised, ice machine nit working.

Price was right, no ice or vending in the 2nd building.

Tom Bodet should turn the front porch lights off and bulldoze that place to the ground. Stairs were falling apart. Plaster falling off out sude of building. A/C unit missing cover and covered with dust.

No swimming pool, roach carcasses in room, found dead bed bug in room, the room looked stripped down, as if everything not absolutely necessary was sold off. I’ve stayed inMotel 6es for almost 40 years and what I saw last night was disappointing and discouraging and disgraceful. I’m staying in a Motel 6 in Rapid City for the next 3 days, but if I had known that this Motel 6 would be as bad as the one in St.Joseph, MO, I wouldn’t have stayed here. In both motels, there was a one quarter roll of toilet paper when we arrived. There was one bath towel, no plastic cups, the batteries in the remote need to be replaced, and the headboards have been removed, but the pieces they were hanging on are still on the wall, which looks dangerous to me. I just hope neither my wife or I injure ourselves accidentally. Again, I’ve found the conditions in these two motels, 700 miles apart disgraceful. It looks like a company problem. I will never stay in another Motel 6, as a result of this weekend’s experience.

TO BEGIN, online photos of property are misleading. I'm not even sure they are of the same property. RENOVATIONS are underway but there is no rhyme/reason to how they are being carried out. I feel bad for the cleaning staff bcoz they can only do so much with the tools given. With that in mind, our ROOM was clean with fresh sheets, pillow cases, towels, no personal amenities except bar soaps, missing coffeepot, fridge and microwave, TV worked, beds are older and a bit firm for my liking but not nec. uncomfortable, pillows good, water hot, pressure in sink and tub good, can't say the same for the showers pressure. OUTDOOR stairs are visibly crumbling and rusty (trip/fall hazard), cigarette butts littered the area, rooms had cracked or missing windows and visible structural issues with doors/frames. INDOORS, our rooms door was warped from knob to floor, drywall in spots was drooping, flooring was warped at joins (another trip/fall hazard), credenza was missing drawers/pulls like someone was in the process of refacing and got distracted, messy paint job, spackle in bath was still wet, towel bar and drain traps were yet to be replaced. As of right now I would NOT rec. staying here. The few interaction had with staff was cordial, location of the property is well appointed - even with everything we never really felt unsafe - but what's happening on property during renos is disorganized at best, unprofessional at worst.

Never review, but the roach put me over the edge. Internet signal was from one bar to zero. Parking lot was a minefield of huge potholes. Stained blanket, old towels and cheap attempt at remodeling. Bathroom wall had mystery streaks and the drain in the shower was clogged.

Broken ice machine was told go to Sinclair station and fill ice bucket for $1. Really fix ice machine do some maintenance Run down

The staff were very friendly and helpful! We appreciated it being pet friendly and NOT CHARGING A FEE!! 😊 There was construction but I’m sure the improvements will be great!

Toilet was not properly seated so it rocked back and forth on floor when you sat on it. Lots of trash all over parking lot and two big overflowing trash cans right outside door to room. Room was very dark. Killed a cockroach. Bed was decent although it had no headboard of any kind and was just leaned up against a wall that had tape and stuff on it. Didn't expect much for price of room but certainly did expect a bit more than we got.

There was splatter on the walls that looked like blood. The comforter had the same on it. There was also something mushed on the wall. The head board was sticky. Only had 2 towels. Light switches and bathroom door frame was dirty.

Disgusting. My first room assigned had the door glued back together from being kicked in. Went back and got second room. No door on bathroom, smoke alarm out of ceiling, ceilimg falling in, cigarette holes in the blanket they called comforter, no control knobs or face on heater so couldn’t turn on. This place needs to be condemned and is a deathtrap if you stay here. Disgusted Motel 6 allows their name on this property.

Check in went ok. Got to the room and couldn’t believe how bad it was. There was a liquid on the floor. We wiped it up with a towel. It turned the towel black. Filthy! Doors, stairs, and floors all had damage. Next we noticed the cockroaches. Hundreds of them! Put our bags back in the vehicle and returned the keys to the front desk. They refused to give a refund. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Absolute horror. I’ve stayed in hotel rooms around the world that I’ve spent less than $10 a night in that were better maintained and cleaner. The room had such a horrible smell of grease and filth and It was clear it hadn’t been cleaned in some time. There were cigarette burns on the comforters, bed looked broken, and the room smelled of smoke…in our “No-Smoking Room”. After throwing back the comforter on the bed is when we saw the dead bugs on the sheets. Then, immediately saw the cockroach run from under the dresser that was missing trim and drawers. We demanded a refund and were only in our room for a few moments. -With only needing a quick nap before continuing to drive, we were looking for a less expensive option, but we ended up in a brief nightmare!

I wasn't expecting something, just needed a place to crash, shower, and leave my stuff so they wouldn't smash my car's window. Th bed was filthy (stains on the cover, bedsheets) so I just slept on my sleeping bag on top of the bed. There were so many bugs I actually went to a store to buy an electric swatter. I could not track where they were coming so I kept hunting them all night. One of the towels had a skid mark so I just showered once because I really needed it. The water temperature in the shower was good, I will give them that. Would probably not stay here again, with all those bugs it is probably a health issue brewing. Also the room reeked of cigarettes, I reckon that is hard to remove without actually replacing the drywall so it wasn't a deal break for me. They put me on the second building in the back (on the second floor), perhaps the rooms in the mail building are better? If you absolutely have to stay here maybe check those out.

DO NOT STAY HERE. I got bedbug bites all over my torso and my neck after staying here. The sink piping leaked, the lights barely turned on. Pretty sure there were constant drug deals going on outside, not the hotels fault I know, but still did not feel safe. BED BUGS! come on yall.

The room was a non smoking room, but as soon as we opened the door we smelled cigarette smoke. The walls were stained, there was hair in the bathtub and the toilet was loose.

My room had peeling ceilings and the door to outside was not sealed and had been damaged. Shower in bathroom had cracked tub and shower was loose in the wall.

This was by far the worse property ever. Holes and cracks in floor boards. Door had gap in it and could easily be pushed in. THey also charged us for the room even though it was paid at the time I booked w/ Expedia which the hotel confirmed. Now trying to get the duplicate payment refunded. Do not stay.

The first room was a sauna because someone had left the bathtub running hot water full tilt. The only "amenity" in the replacement room was a TV, which was basically fine since all I really needed was a place to sleep.

The rooms were pretty small, and there wasn't much room to move around.

Toilet did not flush properly, and heater did not work.

My room was under renovation. The bed was comfortable, it was clean, but the door wouldn’t close completely and left about a 1/4 inch gap, the floor wasn’t finished, there was no TV or usual amenities use.

No microwave or fridge. No working ice machine. No heat in our room- had to move to another one . Check in personnel didn’t inform us of any of this and were not caring at all. Never again for us Motel 0!!!!!!

The room I was advertised was a smoke free room and suppose to have a refrigerator, it did not. The room I was assigned to had burn holes in my blankets, burn marks on tub/toilet/counters, white marks all over the black sink, a hole in the flooring of my room between the two beds, and a broken bed that went to the floor when I Sat on the edge. It was by far the worst condition. When I complained I was told the rooms are being renovated and I got one that wasn't done yet. They also charged me a $50 deposit which was not stated online! This $83 hotel room wasn't worth $50! Horrible condition and room shouldn't not have been rented out. I would of took my money else where!

Very old building. No cable. Only 4 tv channels and three of them were junk.

We had two rooms. One did not have pillowcases and were told that none would be available until in the morning. We had no shower curtain, no trash cans, no mirror and were originally only given one towel for each room. Our door did not deadbolt—incorrectly mounted.

We never checked in. Check in was 3 we waited until 515pm and still didn't get checked in. Canceled our stay

Motel 6 is not a luxury property. That said, my room was clean, well lighted, with good water pressure and plenty of hot water, and a comfortable bed. It is a pet friendly location; while i had no pets with me, it was nice meeting some 4-legged guests. Too, the desk employees, Rigina and Shayna, were friendly and efficient. I really enjoyed my stay.

From check in to check out everything went smoothly. The person that checked us in was friendly and the process was quick. I requested towls, we were given towels prompltly. The room was clean and yhe bed was comfortable. I would stay here again.

Disappointing experience from the moment we stepped in the front door. The guy at the front desk should not be representing this place, seemed horribly inconvenienced at having to do his job (which he does not know how to even do, he had to make a FaceTime call to even complete our check in process?) while continuously apologizing to the people waiting behind us? But never to us? He offered no explanation at all as to what was going on and in the end demanded we pay 10 cents by credit card? Instead of taking a dime? I don’t know, overall the whole place seems kinda sketchy but it’s good enough for one night (if we don’t get bugs) and we will never be back anyways. Just a fair warning to anyone considering staying here. Pay the extra few bucks to stay elsewhere. UPDATE: Went to turn in for the night and there was blood stained sheets with what appeared to be pubic hairs as well, tried for a refund, guy refused us. Would not let us talk to any form of management so we reluctantly switched rooms to which we were met with cockroaches, contacted Expedia who called the front desk and same guy who refused us a refund then said he would allow a refund through Expedia. Truly the worst travel experience of my entire life.

It seemed kinda run down. Also at night there was a guy pacing the parking lot with nunchucks!! I had to go out to my car to get my charger and he was there! For that i probably would pay a little more and go somewhere safer!

The shower in our room was for mobility challenged people. The shower leaked out and flooded the rest of the bathroom. Some of the other guests were very noisy late in the night smoking and drinking near our door.

The moment we walked into the room, there was a bug on one of the beds. I quickly realized the bugs were COCKROACHES and they were everywhere in the room. We arrived at around 11pm and immediately got our children into pajamas and bed. We turned off the lights and almost immediately had roaches crawling the wall. NOPE! We left within minutes, having to shake out roaches from our bags and shoes. Minutes! We were only in there for maybe 10-15 minutes MAX and roaches were all over our belongings and even climbing on my sleeping child! Disgusting! We practically ran out of that room with our stuff and sleepy kids. The attendant wouldn't give us a refund because he said we had to take it up with Expedia. If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. I'll be reporting them to the health department! There were also some shady characters hanging out right outside the door as well that looked like drug dealers, honestly. HORRIBLE place! DO NOT book here!!

Rough part of town Hotel needs upgrades

Listen, I love Motel 6's not only for the price, but I like being able to pull my car right up to my hotel room door. But not all Motel 6's are equal. I expect and do not criticize Motel 6's to be a little worn, maybe with missing towel racks and cigarette burns in the bed cover. But the reason I rated the Motel 6 in St. Joseph lower is because they seem to be housing homeless or low-income people. I do not have a problem with helping the less fortunate, but the room was not very clean, the flooring was broken and loose, and the folks next door smoked, so my room smelled like smoke. The floor was filthy. There was constant noise from the other inhabitants, and while I like dogs, theirs whined when left alone for the day. Perhaps the management should segregate their populations. There was a long hair and what looked like shampoo blobs left in the bathtub, and when I used the one washcloth provided to wipe it down, I discovered the washcloth had brown stains. If I stayed there again I would bring my own bathroom cleaner. One good thing - the water there is HOT and comes out powerfully, like a massager!!

The only thing that was good about this hotel was that the beds were comfortable. Everything else was NOT worth the money that we paid. Pulling up to the property there are a couple of buildings that look like they used to be part of the hotel but isn\'t used anymore. The "outdoor poor" is closed for repairs. When we finally found the office, we went inside and the lady behind the counter was very nice. She gave us our keys and we pulled around the building. In our room, the window has no curtains, just a paper window covering that was taped up. The room is all linoleum. The bathroom smelled of old urine. The tub had stains in it, no drain plug, and the faucet was twisty on the wall. We checked the beds for bed bugs but didn\'t see any. The mattresses are old but they were comfortable. The last thing was the sink only had hot water. Leaving the property there always seemed to be people standing around in the parking lot which was kind of gave an an uneasy feeling. My son did find a razor blade in the parking lot. We tried to go to another hotel but everything was booked due to the Chiefs Training Camp. The location is very close to training camp if that\'s why you are visiting. There also was a gas station and donut shop within walking distance that was very good.

The cleanliness and comfort of beds is what saved this, because a good night\'s sleep is paramount. When I booked this, it said microwave and TV and breakfast. I should have looked at the printed reservation I was emailed because that did NOT say breakfast. That was not a make or break deal. We were given a handicapped room, which meant we could not park by our door and, instead, had to park across the parking lot. We did not need a handicapped room. I noticed several other guests, not handicapped, had parked in the handicapped spaces, not cool. When we got into the room it was absolutely Spratan, tons of open empty space. NO MW, no frig, no closet, only a box on end less than 2\' wide with a rod and 2 hangers. one straight back wood chair, no arm chair, no place for more than 1 person to sit. ONE washcloth. We were too tired to walk across the parking lot and drive back to the office to get another washcloth and there was no phone in the room. The TV was atop the clothing "box" so we could not sit anything on it without blocking the view. There was a shelf for a nightstand between the beds. That was it. No place to sit any of our stuff. HOWEVER, due to the fact that it was apparently recently remodeled, it was sparkling clean and we slept well. There is a lot to be said for a good night\'s sleep.

I got in a little early, but I could not get the TV to work. I took it as a sign to just read and go to bed. I should have said something but it did not bother me. The bed was comfortable and not noisy. I was up early, got coffee, left the key and went. What I was looking for.
