Great theme - worth the trip just for the rock & roll museum, and live music. It is also a studio rental space, hotel, hostel, a restaurant & bar. Everything was clean and the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, the bar and restaurant were not open. Unfortunately, I also had to check out right away because the hostel spaces couldn't accommodate the "old person" mobility issues I had requested. Lots and lots of stairs, low beds, accessable plugs etc

The Music City Hotel was amazing. We had such a good time. We got to stay in the Metallica room, awesome! We even had a guitar and amp to play! Comfortable and clean rooms, rock and roll everywhere. Great showers, and clean bathrooms. Centrally located in the city, so we were able to use the public transportation, like the cable cars! Parking lot next door, I was able to leave my car. So many restaurants and shopping All around, fun in every direction. One day is certainly not enough time to enjoy all that is available and close by. We will return!

It’s great that you can play the guitar and amp in the room. The bathrooms are fine, but the electronic key opens the door even if someone is in there. They should have a manual lock on the inside so nobody can enter while you are in there

I chose to give this hotel a good rating because it delivered exactly what was advertised at a decent rate in a location that we convenient to what I wanted to do in SF. That said, there are a few things I wish I had taken into account before choosing it that have to do with me more than the property itself. For starters, this is probably not the top pick for someone with mobility issues or who has trouble with stairs. If there is an elevator in the building it was evidently not operating during my stay, and accessing the front desk and guest rooms involved several flights of pretty steep stairs with baggage -- so just be prepared. Second, the hotel staff is very nice and helpful, but there is no one on-site overnight. For me this became an issue when an alarm went off in the hallway outside my room about 5 a.m. When I called the after-hours number, they advised me to ignore it and so the alarm kept going til the morning crew arrived. Finally, future guests should note there is not really a common area, so people staying in the shared hostel rooms tend to use the hallways for personal phone calls etc. and the noise does carry. These are not criticisms, just a heads-up for people who may be a tad more comfortable in a more traditional American-style hotel set-up. This is not that, but it is an interesting, quirky and comfortable place at a good price near interesting attractions, music venues, etc. and not too far from Union Square.

The overall condition of the place is run down and dirty. My bedding was not in good shape: pilled and the duvet cover had a busted zipper. Holes in the curtains. Dingy smelling overall. Also, very loud until late- little insulation between the music rehearsal spaces and the bedrooms. Seems to be sparsely used as a hotel or hostel, however, as I was alone in my dorm room three or four nights.

I'm embarrassed to just now be riding a review for this fantastic place. I've stayed here a great number of times. The front desk office staff are so friendly and yet professional. I'm from hospitality and retail experience, so I know very well customer service. This staff have a natural ability for this customer service. I've seen several times in person them handling numerous situations at one time. They give the term multitasking a new definition. The housekeeping staff are not only friendly and you're always smiling, but are so thorough and maintaining impeccable cleanliness. They're fresh fruit coffee and tea are always a comfort treat. That huge photos of the Bay area music legends are so cool. I grew up with most of these bands, and always enjoy your trip down memory lane when viewing these. I'm so excited for the new addition downstairs to open. I can't say enough about these friendly professional cool hip folks. Oh one more thing. The music that plays over the speakers is so cool. I have Shazam so much of this music over time that I have a fat library of new material to listen to. Whenever The pointer sisters OR Sylvester plays, watch out baby cuz I'm going to be dancing.

No one responded to expedia messages or emails. Communication is terrible. It says hotel in the title but it's not a hotel. It really is a hostel. 2nd floor is actually the 3rd floor. Good luck if your luggage is wide or heavy. No one helps you. Arrived and the desk person was on a dinner break so we waited along with others for over 20 mins. 7:30am it was noisy with someone playing music in the bathroom which I heard through my private bathroom door thru another closed door. Loud noise thru 2 closed doors! There's a huge gap under the room door so you can hear everything in the hallway and they can hear you. The desk people apologized but really... What can they do?!

Being next to a hospital meant lots of noise from emergency vehicles. Also, on the edge of the Tenderloin so not super safe feeling at night but fortunately I was just a couple blocks from my friend's property. For the price, not too bad.

I'm embarrassed to just now be riding a review for this fantastic place. I've stayed here a great number of times. The front desk office staff are so friendly and yet professional. I'm from hospitality and retail experience, so I know very well customer service. This staff have a natural ability for this customer service. I've seen several times in person them handling numerous situations at one time. They give the term multitasking a new definition. The housekeeping staff are not only friendly and you're always smiling, but are so thorough and maintaining impeccable cleanliness. They're fresh fruit coffee and tea are always a comfort treat. That huge photos of the Bay area music legends are so cool. I grew up with most of these bands, and always enjoy your trip down memory lane when viewing these. I'm so excited for the new addition downstairs to open. I can't say enough about these friendly professional cool hip folks. Oh one more thing. The music that plays over the speakers is so cool. I have Shazam so much of this music over time that I have a fat library of new material to listen to. Whenever The pointer sisters OR Sylvester plays, watch out baby cuz I'm going to be dancing.

I chose to give this hotel a good rating because it delivered exactly what was advertised at a decent rate in a location that we convenient to what I wanted to do in SF. That said, there are a few things I wish I had taken into account before choosing it that have to do with me more than the property itself. For starters, this is probably not the top pick for someone with mobility issues or who has trouble with stairs. If there is an elevator in the building it was evidently not operating during my stay, and accessing the front desk and guest rooms involved several flights of pretty steep stairs with baggage -- so just be prepared. Second, the hotel staff is very nice and helpful, but there is no one on-site overnight. For me this became an issue when an alarm went off in the hallway outside my room about 5 a.m. When I called the after-hours number, they advised me to ignore it and so the alarm kept going til the morning crew arrived. Finally, future guests should note there is not really a common area, so people staying in the shared hostel rooms tend to use the hallways for personal phone calls etc. and the noise does carry. These are not criticisms, just a heads-up for people who may be a tad more comfortable in a more traditional American-style hotel set-up. This is not that, but it is an interesting, quirky and comfortable place at a good price near interesting attractions, music venues, etc. and not too far from Union Square.

The music decor was very cool. We stayed in the Metallica room. They had pictures of various San Francisco bands and a brief history about them. The shared bathroom was a different experience but not bad. The check in hostess was amazing and very friendly. There is live music downstairs to enjoy at no extra charge.

I have lived in San Francisco for the past 30 years, and I know the city changes from block to block. The music city hotel is the perfect alternative to stay in the city on and off without paying lots of money. The area is very nice, many good restaurants and pubs. Night life as well, dispensaries and more. Overall, I love this place.

The Music City Hotel was amazing. We had such a good time. We got to stay in the Metallica room, awesome! We even had a guitar and amp to play! Comfortable and clean rooms, rock and roll everywhere. Great showers, and clean bathrooms. Centrally located in the city, so we were able to use the public transportation, like the cable cars! Parking lot next door, I was able to leave my car. So many restaurants and shopping All around, fun in every direction. One day is certainly not enough time to enjoy all that is available and close by. We will return!

Being next to a hospital meant lots of noise from emergency vehicles. Also, on the edge of the Tenderloin so not super safe feeling at night but fortunately I was just a couple blocks from my friend's property. For the price, not too bad.

Great theme - worth the trip just for the rock & roll museum, and live music. It is also a studio rental space, hotel, hostel, a restaurant & bar. Everything was clean and the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, the bar and restaurant were not open. Unfortunately, I also had to check out right away because the hostel spaces couldn't accommodate the "old person" mobility issues I had requested. Lots and lots of stairs, low beds, accessable plugs etc

For being in a pretty prime location, you’re pretty close to the piers at fishermen’s wharf the pricing is cheap! Other hotels range from $100 & up per night. The only thing is that this is a hostel so you will be sharing the room & the bathroom/showers for that floor. They clean well & often but it does get messy which is expected. Homeless in the area attempt to come in but staff is good at escorting them out. You use your room key to get in your room & bathroom/showers which is good.

The place is very dated, the aesthetic wasn’t great. There are no plugs in the individual pods so I could never charge my laptop in the room and there was 1-2 plugs in the entire building so it was also almost impossible to charge. Really hard to work here. The guests were really nice though! Don’t come here if you have back issues. Mattresses aren’t real mattresses they are just thin foam. I was here for 8 days, and I have no back issues but it was like sleeping on plywood the entire time. Other guests in the reviews have highlighted the same issue. A few days in there was no WiFi available unless you were in your room.
