Howard Johnson by Wyndham Gananoque

Hotel and staff were what you would hope to expect. Staff was courteous and helpful. Hotel rooms were clean and modern. My only complaint was with the pool. The fencing around the pool, although required, was too high and visually restrictive. More importantly, the pool was not being properly maintained. In the 4 days we were there it wasn’t vacuumed and the water was constantly cloudy. As a pool owner, it was not hygienically safe. They need to hire a pool maintenance company if they are not up to the task of properly maintaining it.

I did not like that there was no elevator and I was not made aware of this at the time of booking with Expedia. This should be mentioned when making a booking. I have a lung problem so it is very difficult for me to climb stairs especially with luggage.

Nice location but slightly out dated property, no elevator makes taking luggage upstairs a little difficult for elderly.

Internet as not working. Room was only moderately clean.

Property was nice. Breakfast offering was fair. Pool area could lose the tall plastic fencing. It’s too restrictive and not very attractive. Also, they need to hire someone to maintain and clean the pool. We were there for 4 nights and it wasn’t cleaned once. The water quality was also cloudy.

Great location and lovely staff. Very safe for solo female traveller. Loved the pool!!!

The grounds were kept up nice they went over n above put us in a different room where the internet worked for us.

Parking was easy, good breakfast to go in the a.m.

This hotel is more like a glorified motel. Pool is advertised but closed, even though it is already June. Room is not very clean with hair on bathroom floor. Breakfast is just a few items for pick up. Not recommended.

Main areas of the room were clean but corners, under the sink and the undersides of taps were dirty. Our bathroom sink had a bunch of toothpaste splatter from previous occupants on the underside.

Ac didn’t work. Room was clean but sheets had stains Room was large but carpet was stained. Shower was great.

Cockroaches. Found in the bathroom and on the wall next to the bed. Dirty. Drink splash stains above the garbage can in the bathroom. Drawer doesn't close. Always rolling open. Carpet is humid. I was told I was getting a refund. I was supposed to stay 2 days. Left as soon as I found the roaches. Only refunded one day. Showed front desk all the photos. Can't believe they didn't refund the whole thing. Shameful. Place had 8.2 stars from reviews. It's false. The room is not even remotely like the images on the listing.

This hotel is old and it shows. The bathroom is unhealthy with the mold and rust. Towels are old and thin so had to use more than one. Facecloth had lipstick on.

I thought based on the rating that this would be a good place to stay. I was wrong. The bedding was dirty, the bathroom a disaster. No curtains on the windows. Furniture was old and dirty. it showed a breakfast but was a continental one which we didn’t use given the cleanliness of the room.

Cleanliness could have been a bit better. Around the floor heater in the bathroom, the area around it has not been clean in a long time. As your sitting on the toilet, that’s all there was to see. It was only a visual thing.

Clean and convenient

Bathroom had mould in the shower tile area. The floor was in need of repair. The heater had a lot of rust. The tables and dressers needed dusting. The beds and linens were very nice. The ac was very noisy as were the upstairs clients.

It was good loved the big tv, not nearly enough blankets on the bed. No real comforter.

Rooms are small. Bedding needs improvement. Matrreses should be replaced. Room temperature was 58f at check in

Very dated property. Clearly heard noise from adjacent room. No coffee maker or cups. Grab and go breakfast was very meager. Beds were ok.

There was no soap, tv didn't work. Room was very hot and Ac didn't work properly.

Room is clean. Bed is comfortable. The bed beside washroom is little smelly. The air conditioner is quite noisy.

Older facility but generally well kept. Friendly staff. Room was lit well -- unusual for a budget motel. One disadvantage was the streaming TV system, which few options for live sports.

The property did not match the photos online and was much older than expected. The carpets, bathroom, and AC unit were all in need of updating, and the AC filter clearly needed replacing. The TV only offered streaming options with no sports channels, and the overall setup felt more like a motel. I also did not feel very safe during my stay as the property is pretty dark at night.

I will give some credit where it is due: Decent sized room, quiet, comfortable enough bed, pillows, big tv, decent outdoor pool. And now the cons: First thing I noticed walking into my room is that I was pummeled by a strong must & chemical smell. Even the carpet sort of felt damp somehow. I'm sure it must be a cleaning product or something but the chemical smell is so strong that even after leaving the windows open all night, every time i went outside and walked back in the smell was still so very strong that it was instant headache, watery eyes, stuffed sinuses. Walking outside of the room instantly cleared up the symptoms. If it wasn't the cleaning products in the carpet that did that then it must be from the musty smell which likely is mold. The smell constantly stabbed me in the brain. Very difficult to sleep like that. Didn't mention it to the staff because in talking to the other guests outside they had the same complaint. While things appeared clean, because of the dampish carpet and smell I never felt clean. For the last 10 years I have stayed in many a hotel and motel for work. I'm not that picky. All I need is to feel clean and comfortable and I really don't care about any other amenities. That being said when the floor feels damp and the strong chemical smell makes it impossible for you to relax, I feel like the Howard Johnson is overlooking some pretty standard things.

The room was warm for sleeping. The window shaker air conditioner couldn’t bring the temperature down enough and it was extremely loud when it came on, which was often. The noise from other rooms on the same floor and the floor above were noticeable. We did not sleep very well for the 2 nights we were there.

Friendly staff

The stay was good for the price but the only thing is you have no privacy. We hung a do not disturb sign outside our door and in the morning around 12 i hear loud knocking on our door and then one of the staff just opened the door. That was really not a nice experience

The staff were pleasant and somewhat accommodating. Upon checking in the first room was not clean and had many imperfections. After letting the staff know about the condition of the room they did give us other options and we did end up with a better room. We were there for 4 days and it snowed 3 of the 4 days. They did not clean the walkways in front of our room or put down salt or sand. My wife had a nasty fall because of the lack of clearing of the snow. Definitely would not recommend a stay at this location.

The receptionist provided astounding hospitality and service! Overall great experience.

When I arrived I found the office empty. Ended up waiting about 20 minutes before I found someone. After that everything was excellent.

My stay started going downhill 2 days before i checked in when i called to confirm that my request for a crib had been received. I was told by receptionist that cribs were not available contrary to what was advertised but they could offer play pens without a mattress. But that i could put a blanket and some sheets inside for my infant to sleep on. As I am traveling with a young infant, having them sleep on anything less than a firm surface is unsafe. I was then told that i should bring my own crib and that I needed to figure it out. Imagine being told to figure out your own sleeping arrangements when checking in at a hotel.... Upon our arrival I can't say I pleased with the dried up dead bugs on the bathroom ceiling, the mouldy shower curtains, the iron stains on the bedsheets and blankets, or the random hairs scattered on the bathtub and bathroom floors. What really got me was the sign in the bathroom saying that the rooms are only turned over once every three days unless requested earlier (which I was fine with) but when we got back from being out all day, we noticed that housekeeping HAD been in the room, made up only one of the beds and took away 2 of our towels but didn't replace them. On a positive note, a huge thank you to the receptionist (different than the one I'd spoken to days prior) who went on a manhunt to find extra blankets for us since extra ones in the room are made of wool and we have a wool allergy. Overall for under $100 I guess I got what I paid for

I called them before reserving, asking for late check out (5pm because I had work). The person who answered said it was fine. I proceeded to book through Expedia and left a “special instruction”. When I arrived, the reception said late check out was only possible until 12pm and made it seem like she was doing us a favour. When we got into the room, the temperature was set very high (in the 30s) and the room had a weird smell. We left the door open to let the room cool down. Next day, we checked out at 12 and a different reception person said “12 is too late”. I told him the other reception person said 12 was fine and he asked me “who?” How am I supposed to know who works your shifts. Overall an unpleasant experience. The only nice thing was the cleaner who knocked on our door and smiled with joy at seeing my dog.

Wonderful, helpful staff. Got a very spacious upgraded room. Clean, well kept pool.

Room was as expected and staff were great.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Made me a grab and go breakfast for me everyday as the breakfast didn't open till 7am and I left for work at 6am

Very convenient for walking around town and going for the boat tour.

It’s closed to shoppers, gas station and some restaurants. You can walk there. And the staff was nice and helpful. It’s a wonderful experience.

Close to Thousand Island Cruise. Motel style accomodation which I don’t really prefer. Access key was disabled way early before check out time. Fresh linen was delivered inside the room even if we haven’t checked out yet.

Good location, friendly staff, not much choices in breakfast. Kind of smelly in the parking lot. Rooms were neat and clean. Location is excellent. Small beautiful town. All over stay was nice and comfortable

We were in walking area for some museums, restuarants and close for nice drive along 1000 island parkway. Hotel area was nice and quiet.

Wifi was good. Gas station next to the property after the self car wash. Bed was too firm. Overall mid to slightly better room condition. Washroom definitely needs renovation.... Breakfast was not much of a breakfast. It was a snack station with wrapped muffins and granola bars, some juice box...and maybe one or two kinds of fruits.... Oh....and coffee machine.

This is my go-to hotel in Gananoque and it never disappoints. It’s not luxurious or trendy, but the bed is always comfortable, the shower is always drenching, and the front-desk staff is always friendly and welcoming. There’s a basic breakfast offered, but there are other dining options minutes away. I will be happy to return the next time I’m in Gananoque!

Everything was great with the only exception being the breakfast. It was packaged muffins, granola bars, juice boxes and yogurt cups.

The staff is good and the property is comfortable but the breakfast is very simple.

Super petit hôtel, l'emplacement est idéal avec tout à proximité et accessible à pied, tout en proposant un parking gratuit. Les chambres sont propres, la literie est bien. Le personnel est aimable et disponible. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour de 2 nuits. Le seul bémol est le petit-déjeuner, très (trop) minimaliste, il y a peu de choix et ce sont des sachets emballés, avec des saveurs similaires en petites quantités donc difficile à satisfaire une famille de 5. Nous sommes néanmoins très satisfaits de cet établissement dans l'ensemble.

The room was good. Hard to open windows. The biggest downside is the breakfast that was "included". It is just snacks (granola bar, yogurt, fruit, muffin, and coffee), no bread even and hot food. You can tell most people were disappointed about the breakfast.

It's a motel not a hotel. There's no continental breakfast, This is just snacks.

Large clean room. Good customer service. Breakfast was pretty bad though, hardly anything to eat. Just muffins and coffee.

You should not advertise breakfast for travelling families when you offer gronala bars and juice boxes.
