Heritage Grange at Thurston, Hotel

What a wonderful place to stay! The lodge we stayed in was perfectly suited to us. Loved the veranda and the table and chairs so we could sit outside in the evening with a view across the lawn and to the trees. Breakfast was a feast - only disappointment was that we were only there for one night. We plan to return and stay for longer next time.

Beautiful hotel in a lovely setting. Very quiet. Check that bar/restaurant are open, should you want to use them, although the village does have a couple of pubs.

We had a log cabin in the garden as we had our dog. Good king bed and the gardens were lovely and peaceful. Lovely walk across The fields in the morning for the dog.

The room was a bit tired and the bathroom had a toilet leak didn’t complain as only stayed one night! Did mention it the next morning. Saying that the bed was comfortable and the room clean and a decent size. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The heritage building and grounds were amazing and the overall price was good value.

Really good evening meal and equally good breakfast. Day 2 returned from my day of stuff to find the places locked up no staff lights off. Ended up going to tescos to grab something to eat.

A very clean, spacious room. A good choice of meals in the evening. Lovely peaceful surroundings.

I stayed in one of the log cabins, spacious room, comfy bed, it rained hard all night and the noise of the rain hitting the roof was very soothing Would book this hotel/log cabin again

We stayed for just one night. Booked as an emergency on a budget and weren't disappointed. The room, although quite small, was clean, had a comfortable bed, a little bathroom and all the usual basics, ie tv, coffee making facilities with a nice selection and even a microwave. The location is very quiet, so we had a good night's sleep. Can't comment on bar and restaurant as we didn't have breakfast or dinner there, but opted for a pub 1mile down the road. Will stay there again.

Cracked floor tile in bathroom. No hot water !!!!! Dirty window frame. Only two pillows on double bed, I think you need 4 really.

Room 14 was in urgent need of updating. Carpets very old and marked, windows filthy and frames were rotten. Breakfast good and bed good

We stayed in one of the Cabins - really pleasant to sit outside and have a drink looking at the gardens. Someone had so obviously been smoking inside there though, the smell of stale tobacco hit us as soon as we got in. The decor is tired and a bit sparse in there but overall we did enjoy it! Staff are great and it’s lovely and quiet.

Sweet little lodge, maybe could have been checked before we arrived as a few spiders had moved in but comfortable and clean

The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was nice. The grounds were lovely and the exterior of the building is beautiful but the interior has been left to deteriorate. Decor feels old and unloved. We rented a garden cabin. The door was battered, the carpet stained. The whole place feels tired. It is a shame as it has great potential but we feel the hotel should not be charging full price until it has undergone a refurbishment and refresh. We were disappointed with the state of the room and dining room.

Low stress overnight trip. We took a chance on an early check in and the team were calm and relaxed and were very helpful, we booked breakfast which was superb value and utterly delicious- great veggie breakfast and good coffee and extras available. We stayed in a lodge room, which was perfectly adequate- comfy bed and free WiFi. A few areas to improve from a decorative point of view but a good value and relaxing stay.

The hotel is beautiful inside and out. Gardens lovely and secluded. Staff excellent Sadly the plumbing in Rm 10 terrible and we had no water or able to shower.

On arrival had a small issue which was met with a rude and blunt response demonstrating shoddy customer service I was looked up and down by the manger and immediately informed I had to pay a cost holding on the room, when asked why , simply told to google it as this is policy Never have I been spoke to line this and honestly I held back and remained professional unlike these two I met Shocking service Shower poor Toilet took seceral flushes after using WiFi absolutely shocking slow when I tested on google speed test and unable to carry out work It’s a Christmas card, looks nice but nothing inside Be warned

This hotel was ok, but needs quite a lot of TLC! The rooms are looking very tired, and there was quite a major leak in the roof when I stayed. The food options in the dining room were good though, and the staff were friendly (when you could find someone!).

The hotel is down a very narrow road and satnav actually tried to direct me into a private residence entrance before reaching the hotel. Take care leaving or joining the main road the line of sight both ways is dangerously restricted. The staff were unfriendly, unwelcoming and sullen, giving the impression that they did not enjoy their jobs. I had booked a double room, which turned out to be a very small room, with a double bed pushed up against the wall on one side. The shower was so cramped I had to open the door to be able to spread my arms out to dry myself. The body wash tubes provided in the shower room were empty. Breakfast was not worth £13. The waitress was surly, it felt like she was doing me a huge favour taking my order and resented even being there. I got no response to my polite greeting. The tables were not preset, despite the fact that I had booked and paid for the meal the night before. So the waitress clattered and dumped items on the table setting it in front of me. I asked for some fruit and was given 3 thinly sliced strawberries arranged on a plate. I could not eat the scrambled egg it tasted like flour had been added and was not cooked properly. I enjoyed the toast which was nice and hot! Conclusion: I will not stay there again.

The bathroom area and shower was extremely small & very limited space.

Great place run by a lovely couple. The only complaint was the shower had very bad water pressure but it’s an old place, so you expect such. It had a bath, so you can just plan on doing that if you want a better experience.

The most unfriendly hotel I have ever stayed in - staff (especially the receptionist) were rude.

Sadly despite informing Hotel of arriving late I was refused my booking, In a hurry I forgot my cards & the attitude of staff was Utterly Unbelievable, I am a respectable lady of senior years also diabetic. Only visiting to lecture at nearby college next day. I asked if he would phone my husband to confirm bank details were same as booking. 3 hours drive from home late on a wet night I was forced to sleep in my car with only a jacket for bedding, Utterly Disgusted & considering Trading standards etc

Manager and wife are very argumentative and rude to customers.

We stayed at this property as it is nearby family who we were visiting. The hotel is beautiful and well presented, our two rooms were comfortable and had everything needed for a stay. We enjoyed the character and lovely features of the hotel. The two staff members we met were both very polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was served in the quiet dining area and we both enjoyed our meals. Easy to find and parking was easy too. Will definitely be booking again - many thanks 😊

I love staying here. The view from the lodge is great and staff are wonderful. My only issue this visit was the lack of light in the car park. We arrived in the dark and couldn’t really see to get luggage out of the car and needed to use a torch to get to our room, which was in an lodge (by choice) and not part of the main building. Other than that it was great!

A lovely quiet secluded gem of a place. Nothing too much trouble for the lovely couple running the Grange for the past 18 years. Facilities wise bed was super comfy, room clean, the generous sized bathroom needs a bit of a revamp but doesn't affect use (shower screen and windows). Food was delish and homecooked. A relaxing atmosphere and a peaceful 3 night stay.

Very nice spacy room with big bathroom and large bed. Lovely lounge and dining room. We were lucky to have been able to get a table for 6.45pm as the restaurant was fully booked on that Monday. The food were big portions and was very delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Restaurant is excellent and has really great steaks.
