Dive Hotel

Good location on the beach. Staff were quick to respond to messages. Parking is a pain as it’s quite a busy area. Hotel rooms are very basic, lots of mould in the bathroom/showers, but the bed was clean. I wouldn’t stay again but for 1 night it was ok.

The room and bathroom were large and clean. The ocean view from the balcony window was gorgeous. The balcony itself was a little narrow and a little rundown. The checking and parking process was poor. After booking through Expedia we got an email saying reception was open from 9am-2:30pm and to call to confirm arrival time 24 hours ahead. We did so saying we would arrive at 1pm. On the day we running behind time so called back and said we would be there at 2pm. Stopping in front of the hotel - if you have a car is almost impossible on a Friday summer/school holiday time. So one of us stayed with the car and I went in. There were already 3 people waiting at the reception and there was a sign on the desk saying call this particular number. It was 2:05pm. The people told me they had already called 10 minutes earlier. Another 10 minutes went past and more people arrived to check in, totaling 11 people waiting. At around 2:25pm someone came to reception and started checking people in! I didn’t realize when I booked that I had to book parking which is run by someone else not the hotel. Fortunately there was still space but for the extra charge they wanted cash which we didn’t have. The next day before checking out we looked for an ATM but the service were astronomical so went back to reception and another staff member said I could pay there with my card - conflicting information and wasted time!! Besides that, with some patience, the location is great and the rooms were good.

Stairs very steep with luggage and air conditioning not working

We are unlikely to be staying here again, even in a tight market for rooms. The bed was good and it was a quiet room, however it was dated, photo shows water views, there was works underway at the front of the place, there is no parking nearby, and stairs challenging for some - no lift. It felt like a small step up from a backpackers, and at just over $200 per night that is a pity.

Loved our 2 day stay at Dive. Very convenient across from the beach and quiet, for a peaceful sleep. Sure, property a bit dated, but this adds to the charm of the place. Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Took advance and paid extra to park right at the back fence of the property. Will definitely stay here again.

Dive Hotel is in an excellent location, just across the street from Coogee Beach. It is a small hotel and not fancy, but our room was nice and having a common area with a kitchen and table was very useful. The manager was very helpful during our stay, and the wifi worked well.

The property is needing some maintenance, you need to let consumers know about the narrow staircase as this isn’t conducive to all patrons. It is over priced.

I was disappointed in the standard of the room for the price. For an older lady the stairs weren’t so easy to manage. The step in the bathroom was dangerous with the step down for an older person. There was nothing in the fridge, not even milk. I wouldn’t stay there again. Sorry about the negative feedback.

fantastic location, very clean and everything you want in a hotel. Was no issues for me but if you have a heavy suitcase and are not particularly mobile the stairs are very narrow and steep and took a bit lifting to get our bags up there. Would 100% stay again

Only thing that was terrible was the parking, but that’s just Sydney in general, can’t be helped.

Really well positioned in central Coogee, easy access to beach, restaurants and shops. Large room very comfortable bed and clean, bathroom needs a refurbish but clean and lots of hot water overall very convenient and relaxing stay.

Mouldy bathroom lets down the other good attributes

The Dive hotel is an older facility that has certain charm (e.g. high ceilings and tin ceiling) and check in was simple, with clear instructions. But the bathroom in particular needed attention. The shower stall had mold in the grout (needed to be bleached and scrubbed) and it was clear that things had been pulled off the walls without repair or repainting. At first we were pleased with the communal dining area as we were leaving very early and thought we could have a simple breakfast. But our coffee and cereal were ruined by spoiled milk in the refrigerator. Had we known the night before that the milk was spoiled we could have picked up some from a dairy. The Dive hotel is inexpensive, but not necessarily a great bargain.

The property was advertised as 4 star yet it was far from it. Room was dirty, linen was old and stained. Bathroom was mouldy. There were barely any kitchen utensils and the ones that were provided were cracked or scratched. Cutlery tray was mouldy. I was extremely dissatisfied with the property.

The room was very draughty with windows not closing properly. Hot water took ages to come through. Met needs for a bed for two nights, but wouldn’t return.

Fabulous view from the front rooms (and higher rates of course). A mix of old and new, the old sometimes showing wear. Beach is great for swimming in all but the most serious conditions.

The property was in a fantastic location, but the floorboards are very noisy and kept us away the first night. We paid extra for a balcony but the door was so hard to open and reck we only opened it once. We had to be let in by another quest as the front door wasn't open and the phone number provided wasn't being answered.

Couldn’t get in contact with the hotel and when I arrived I couldn’t find the entry so I had to book somewhere else to stay

Perfect for a short (or long) stay in The Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The location could not be better with brilliant coastal walks to Bondi and Maroubra. The staff were friendly and the room was brilliant. I will stay again when next in Sydney.

Do NOT book to stay here. We do not recommend this property at all. Checkin was communicated as being between 2pm and 8pm. We arrived at 2:45 pm. The hotel was all locked up. No one was answering the phone. The mobile phone number posted on the front door did not work. We had paid $400 for one night. We stayed outside the property emailing and calling the property until 4 pm. Still no response. Appalling. If it was not for the customer support of wotif, which was excellent, we would have had nowhere to stay and likely lost our money.

Not so good, a tired and tatty hotel. No staff on the premises. Described as upmarket 4 star hotel, certainly not this.

Such nice folks. They even let us keep our bags on site behind the counter after checkout the day of our departure so that we could enjoy the beach before our friend picked us up at 5. Would have been a massive bummer to haul our luggage everywhere. Because of them we got to head south on the coastal trail and check out more of the fauna.

It's a fantastic place to stay if you're on a budget. Amazing location, quiet rooms and has everything you need without paying a fortune.

I stayed for 4 nights. Quick access to beach! The facilities were indeed old, but kept as clean as they could be. Contactless check-in and check-out was available, which was appreciated as I arrived on an early morning flight. Although the room I chose was not an ocean view room, it was great to open the window to hear the sound of the waves while sleeping.

Funky old building across the street from the beach in Coogee. We chose this hotel specifically to be near friends who live in the neighborhood. The room (#19) was adequately comfortable and large. All communication with the owner/operator was done via email/text message. There is a kitchen, but no real provided services at the hotel other than maybe coffee or tea. We did stay at this property about 10 years ago, and stayed here again because we knew it and because it was a little less expensive that other nearby hotels. However, I feel that it was expensive for the services we received, the overall quality of the stay and the rundown condition of the building.
